St. Louis Clinical Trials Do you know these FACTS about Alzheimer’s disease? • At age 65, there’s a 1 in 8 chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) • That risk increases to a 1 in 2 chance at age 85 • There is no cure for AD…and no way to delay its symptoms There is, however, a way to get involved in increasing the overall understanding of this condition. The TOMMORROW study is a clinical research study seeking healthy senior participants between the ages of 65 and 83 to help us learn more about the early phase of AD.

behavior for butterflies, the Blue Clipper likes to rest with its wings open. This helps to show off its amazing wing patterns which may range from pale blue to violet. Blue Clippers hail from Malaysia, where they are commonly found basking in the sun. The sparkling Yellow Birdwing is one of the largest butterflies at the Butterfly House. They are easy to spot in flight with their topaz hind wings shining in the sunlight. They spend a lot of time at nectar plants and are often easy to find as they visit the flowers. The Yellow Birdwing hails from India to Southeast Asia. The Sapho Longwing hovers around the forest edges in its native home of Central America. The blue on its wings is only revealed when the sun reflects off them, and then it shines forth like a radiant gemstone. The jewel-toned butterflies travel to Chesterfield from tropical areas all around the world. Several of them are declining in the wild, and the butterfly farms that supply the Butterfly House, with their pupae, serve as safe havens to give these species a boost in population. The Butterfly House will also host another special visitor this holiday season, Santa. Visit the Butterfly House from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 or 21 for Supper with Santa and see Santa before he makes his big trip around the world. Tickets are $20 per person and $15 for Missouri Botanical Garden members and include a pasta dinner, cookies, hot cocoa, crafts, a picture with Santa, a walk through the Tropical Conservatory and a photo booth to snap silly keepsakes. Space is limited and reservations are required. Supper with Santa is sponsored by Noodles & Company. The Butterfly House is located in Faust Park at 15193 Olive Blvd. in Chesterfield, Mo., accessible from Interstate 64 at exit #19B. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last ticket is sold 30 min. prior to closing each day. Visitors are encouraged to arrive no later than one hour prior to closing to fully enjoy the experience. Please note, the Butterfly House closes at 3 p.m. on Supper with Santa evenings.

T

his season, the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House will transform into a magical wonderland for its annual Winter Jewels celebration November 28 through January 4. Escape the winter weather and soak in the warmth and beauty of the tropical conservatory. Winter Jewels activities are included with regular admission. Visitors will be given a map when they enter for a treasure hunt through the Animal Exhibit Hall. The insect and invertebrate habitats will be decorated with colorful jewels to delight children and adults as they learn more about these mysterious creatures. Step into the gnome forest to build miniature tree houses and a keepsake jeweled ornament. Fairy Houses can be found throughout the conservatory with each one named for a beautiful, jewel-toned butterfly.

The insect and invertebrate habitats will be decorated with colorful jewels to delight children and adults as they learn more about these mysterious creatures. The Scarlet Mormon Swallowtail hails from the Philippines. Its vibrant scarlet color is only visible on the underside of the wings, so they are best seen when hanging from low tree branches or hovering over nectar plants. A guest favorite, the Blue Morpho, has shining sapphire wings best seen while the butterfly is in flight. When resting, these Costa Rican natives close their wings, hiding their jewel color beneath a drab brown. The Emerald Banded Peacock is one of the few bright green butterflies that live in the conservatory. Found in Southeast Asia, it’s often seen moving quickly between flowers as it searches for nectar. A

t the 22nd annual Friends of Kids with Cancer Fashion Show & Boutique, kids going through treatment for cancer are the ‘stars’ for the day, getting treated to the “Hollywood lifestyle” at The Ritz Carlton-St. Louis. These 30 patient models start their special day entering a room full of gifts, just for them! Then, the models get to have their hair and makeup professionally prepared for both the afternoon-lunch and evening-dinner shows. Between shows, the patients enjoy a pizza party and at the conclusion of the show, patients and their families get treated to all that The Ritz Carlton has to offer, including a night’s stay. These special kids range in age from 4 to 22 and are currently in treatment locally for cancer at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center or Mercy Clinic Children’s Hospital. Everyone in attendance will be dazzled and amazed as the models ‘rock the runway’. Hair or no hair, short or tall, boy or girl, our models’ smiles light-up the room, showing off beautiful clothing from Dillard’s and Mister Guy Clothiers. Leading up to both shows, patrons are able to participate in boutique shopping featuring about 30 fabulous vendors. There will be GREAT items to purchase from both the raffle AND oral auction. Friends of Kids with Cancer CAN’T WAIT to present the 22nd annual Fashion Show & Boutique! Money raised from the fundraiser will benefit the Educational, Emotional and Recreational Programs provided by Friends of Kids with Cancer. We hope YOU can attend on Thursday, November 6! Chesterfield

Personalities Each issue, we’ll be showcasing some of the many people who help Chesterfield & West County thrive as a community. Maybe you’ll recognize one or more of them during a shopping trip or other excursion. Be sure to say Hello!

Dr. Sara Serati- Owner of Liberty Eyecare Sara is the owner of a new private practice optomotry in Chesterfield Valley. She worked in the optical business for seven years before attending optomotry school in 2008. “I had previously lived in Chicago and attended Illinois College of Optomotry. I worked as an optician in various private practices before opening my own business. I moved to St. Louis in 2012 after I married my husband. I have been working in three optomotry pactices around St. Louis and just recently opened my private practice in April of this year in Chesterfield Valley.” Her practice concentrates on eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, dry eye and much more. She has always been an animal lover and has two rescue cats at home. She is a member of the Lion’s Club and is an active member in a number of other organizations in St. Louis.

Orson L. GuytonGeneral Sales Manager Suntrup West County BMW Orson was born and raised in North St. Louis County and attended Vashon and Beaumont High School. He is married to Sandra, and with their blended families he has 5 children and 13 grandchildren. He has been with West County BMW for 23 years. Orson has always loved cars and studied automotive and diesel mechanics, as well as auto repair in school. He was hired on the spot at BMW after answering an ad for an auto detailer, then moved up to quality control manager, then to the sales floor being top salesperson for 10 years. In 2004 he was promoted to overseeing the entire sales force. He has been recognized with many awards from BMW. Although he proclaimed many years ago that he would never ‘‘put on a tie” to go to work, you will find him on the floor or at his desk-tie on!

Felicia CoxDesign Consultant for Express Blinds & Ooh LaLa Home Furnishings Felicia has worked with Ooh La La and Express Blinds since 1987 as a design consultant. She lives in Lake Saint Louis and is married and has two boys ages 17 and 24 who were born here in St. Louis. Felicia is the daughter of Hal Hencken. Hal and his wife Dee are the owners of both companies so it is truly a family affair. She started her business and began working in Chesterfield because the new home building industry was beginning to take off at the time and that was her area of expertise. She has many favorite restaurants in the Chesterfield area including Bishop’s Post, Charlie Gitto’s and Vito’s to name a few. The flood of 1993 in Chesterfield Valley will always be in her memory. Watching the area being rebuilt and exploding with new businesses was phenomenal to her.

Bob NationMayor of Chesterfield Bob has been Mayor for a year and a half. He has been married for 34 years to Louise and has lived in Chesterfield since 1980. He has three grown, married sons and four grandsons. Prior to his career as a real estate broker here in town, he attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and then became an Army Aviator, then a pilot for Ozark, TWA, and American airlines before he retired. Bob belongs to the Kiwanis Club and Chesterfield Chamber. He enjoys living in Chesterfield because of its recreational opportunities, trails, parks and great restaurants. He encourages others to move to Chesterfield because it is such a safe community with a wide range of recreational amenities, cultural opportunities, shopping choices, caliber of housing and great schools. Bob and the city work hard to make Chesterfield a superior place to live and do business.

Denise Glass- Executive Director, West County YMCA Denise has spent the last 17 years with the Y. She lives in Ballwin with her husband of 34 years. She has two children, one son-in-law, and one 6-month old grandson. Denise is from St. Louis and attended Parkway Central and Mizzou. Before working with the Y she was employed by TWA for 14 years. She loves attending the wonderful performances at the Y community theater plus working out at the facility. Attending the events at the Chesterfield Amphitheater is a favorite pastime. She loves the Taste of Chesterfield, Turkey Trot and Trunk or Treat at the Y because they cultivate growth in our community. “I encourage people to move to Chesterfield because of the great schools, wonderful parks, great restaurants and places to shop. The Y and City host family friendly events throughout the year.”

Jeff Minnis- Owner of Jeff ’s Computers Jeff has always been interested in technology and wanted to help people with their needs so he started his company in 1994 with his own savings. His parents used to drive hime to customers houses! He leased a building in 2006 then moved to a newer building in 2009 using bank financing to buy his building. He started Plazsoft in 2011 earning him the 2012 Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. He is CEO of the company and is trying to raise $1,000,000 to support the growth of new products, developing a Point of Sale program that competes with Quickbooks. He and his team completed a successful kickstarter for the game Yargis, a space ship shooter game which they are getting ready to launch. Jeff started in the technology field at 11 years old and developed StudyX educational software while he was still in High School.

Out ‘n Around • ADOPT A FAMILY CAMPAIGN

Friends of Kids with Cancer Helping Kids with Cancer…be Kids! Since 1992 Adopt A Family! The Kelly Hager Group and Gateway Creative are teaming up with Friends of Kids with Cancer to adopt more than 30 families this holiday season. The Hager Group has been doing this for several years and Out ‘n Around is excited to partner with them this year. We hope you’ll join in this worthy effort. Many of these children have been fighting various types of cancer for a long time. Having a child going through cancer treatment affects a family’s ability to purchase presents for the holidays and also makes it difficult to even find time to go shopping. Decorating the tree and baking holiday cookies does not fit in their schedule. The excitement and anticipation of the holidays for a family with a child being treated for cancer is overshadowed by physical exhaustion, financial stress and the constant worry of not being able to make this holiday season special.

Here are some real life scenarios... A young Wildwood man asked a child being treated with cancer... “What do you remember about Christmas last year?” He replied...“I remember laying in a hospital bed, staring at a 12-inch plastic tree, and dreaming about my mom’s Turkey dinner. I remember walking down the hospital hall and seeing kids of all ages missing out on the best time of the year.“ A mother of a child with cancer says... “Chesterfield has so many beautiful displays and holiday activities for children that not only my child in the hospital will miss, but his brothers and sisters also. Not being all together as a family just takes the fun out of it….but there’s always next year.”

This holiday season think about these families suffering physically and emotionally…and GIVE THE GIFT OF GIVING BACK…ADOPT A FAMILY. You have the power of replacing the disappointed sad faces with twinkling eyes and excited smiles. Touch the heart of a child, adopt just one or two family members or the entire family. Unless someone like you cares a lot, nothing is going to get better. HOW TO ‘ADOPT A FAMILY’ Go to www.kellyhager.com When you get on the site, click on the link on top of page or on the green houses with the pink stocking on right of the page. From there, you will be able to sign up and choose which items you would like to contribute and even chose the family or person you’d like to adopt and purchase gifts for.

Please help us.... in our efforts to fulfill kids’ holiday wish lists and stock their homes with the everyday necessities: new bedding to paper towel, laundry detergent, etc. If you can’t shop, you can donate cash, checks or gift cards. No amount is too small. All donations are sincerely appreciated. DONATION DROP OFF Donations may be dropped off at the Kelly Hager Group office 9 am to 5 pm, MondayFriday until Friday, December 5th. Or drop off donations on Saturday morning December 6th from 8 am to 1 pm at Buder Hall at Maryville University. Please make sure to have donation items in a bag or box with the family number and name labeled on the outside so they can be placed with the appropriate family. All items must be new. Gift wrapping is taken care of and wrappers are welcome! Come to Buder Hall at Maryville anytime after 9 am on Saturday, December 6th. The families arrive between 4-6 pm to pick up their gifts. 37

A festive party atmosphere with Santa, music and snacks is planned. Area businesses can donate or supply food, drinks or other items to help make this occasion even better. When you help adopt a family, you’ll experience pure joy and appreciation from the adopted families and children.

DROP OFF ITEMS TO 16091 Swingley Ridge Road Chesterfield, MO 63017 (Located across the street from Chesterfield Post Office just off Olive/Clarkson Road in the McBride Building) For more information call: Kelly Hager Group- 636-778-1216 or Gateway Creative- 636-532-5805 Or go to www.kellyhager.com Thanks in advance for your support. Keep Your “Best Friends” Safe During the Holidays

E

veryone in your home should have a safe and happy holiday season-even your pets. Here are a few tips to keep your favorite four-legged friends healthy and merry while you celebrate.

• Spray on Snow can be Toxic. Check the back of the can before using to make sure it is not one that is toxic to pets.

Pet Proof Your Decorations

• Watch Out for the Candles. What is Christmas or Thanksgiving without an arrangement of shimmering, scented candles? Just remember that wagging tails can knock them over in a second. Snuff out candles before you leave the room, or consider using a candle warmer or fragrance infuser instead of an open flame.

• Avoid Unsafe Plants. Most people know that poinsettias are harmful to pets if eaten. Holly, mistletoe, dieffenbachia, and even philodendrons are also unsafe. Consider spraying the leaves with a “bitter apple spray” to deter ingestion.

• Make sure your Christmas tree is secure in its stand. Add extra support in the form of a wire and eyehook attached to the wall if necessary. Avoid using tinsel or garland on your tree. Cats love to chew both, and although the tinsel may sometimes pass through his system, it can become tangled and lodged in his intestines. Consider limiting the number of glass ornaments you display. Along with the obvious dangers of ingestion, minute shards of any broken ornaments can become embedded in paws and cause pain and infection.

• Check your driveway salt. The ice melt you sprinkle on your front walk contains chemicals that can burn your pet’s paws and tongue. Be sure to clean his paws thoroughly after each trip he takes outside.

• Research your “Real Tree.” If you decide on a real tree for Christmas, be aware that many are sprayed with fire-retardants and insecticide. Keep all needles swept up; eating them make your pet ill. Make sure water reservoir for the tree is covered to prevent drinking. It may contain preservatives and other chemicals.

Pets add so much love to our homes. No matter how crazy the holidays get, remember to take a few minutes to make sure your house is safe and pet-friendly.

Avoid These Holiday Foods! • That turkey or ham or roast you just unwrapped will be a culinary delight to your guests. But the string that tied it together is a disaster waiting to happen for your dog or cat. It is often soaked in juices and fat that make it irresistible to your pet. If ingested, the string will cause intestinal blockage that may require surgery to remove. Be sure to dispose of it in a locking trash can. • Sweets are a big part of any holiday gathering. And chocolate is good for us now, right? Not so for your pet. Chocolate contains theobromine, and alkaloid similar to caffeine. When eaten by cats, dogs, and other pets, chocolate can cause nerve damage and even death. • Turkey bones will splinter when chewed on. Resist the temptation to feed them to Fido. They can puncture the stomach and intestines or become lodged in his throat. • If you want to give your dog or cat a treat from your feast, stick with small portions of turkey or ham. Vegetables are fine. Hold the gravy.

Since our founding in 1962, Wings of Hope (WoH) has grown into a global Whole Earth Charity. Our work is not easily captured in a single thought because we do whatever is needed for the specific group of our fellow man we are serving. So, in Africa, South America and Indonesia, the work involves every level of human need. But some of our most rewarding work is right here in our own neighborhood – America! As a part of those worldwide services, we also operate the only totally free Medical referral service for any child (adults too!) with complex diseases, and that includes free Air Ambulance transport as often as needed, once the best care is found. This is all accomplished with our Medical Relief and Air Transport (MAT) Program, operated right here from our St. Louis world headquarters. Patients and their families, or their Case Worker or Doctor contact us daily and our staff does immense research into what is available anywhere in the U.S. for whatever their problems may be. After the research, they decide what else we can do to help. We also facilitate them getting accepted at any institution in the country or even a Phase I or II trial study of new medicine. We don’t give up until every possible solution is examined. Jenny contracted Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) early in life. She needed very specialized treatment that was not available in rural Missouri. We set her up at the Mayo Clinic and she is now doing fabulous! Over 1,000 kids and some adults receive services from the MAT each year. Like all of our global work – we do whatever it takes to heal, to soothe, to foster Peace and Hope. There are no criteria to be accepted – just ask. We believe that once someone asks for our help, we are obligated by Humanity to at least try our very best to assist them. After all….the tears of a mother in Missouri are identical to the tears of a mother in the Jungles of the world. All of these children are our Fellow Man!

A

nymore, it’s rare to see merely an angel-topped tree with plain red and green ornaments and tinsel. Today, holiday decorations can mean everything from bronze-studded ornaments the size of beach balls to life-size red velvet reindeer. With a myriad of trees, wreaths and mantel decor to choose from, the possibilities of how to adorn your home this year are endless, and the more imagination you use, the better. Holiday decorating has become an opportunity to make a statement.

Start With the Basics:

Page 40

• Rather than garland on the stairway, try hanging small wreaths, evenly spaced going up the stairs, with ribbon-held photos inside. If your stairs are wide enough, place small potted poinsettias, topiaries or other plants on each stair tread. And by all means decorate them. • Wrap tiny lights, ribbons and groups of berries tied together around the frame of a large hanging mirror or picture. Add additional ribbon so it flows off the corner of the frame. • If your mantel is less than inspiring, try this: Line it with greens and white flowers. Then add red candles

Decorating for the Holidays

Assess what you already have: You know those decorations you’re tired of using year after year? Before you toss them, think about giving them a face-lift. It’s fun and a great way to unleash your creativity. Give them a new look with some spray paint and a little sparkle. After all, “bling” isn’t just for the red carpet. It’s bigger than ever this season. The fact that you’ve used that wooden sleigh with the plastic Santa for the past 30 years doesn’t mean it’s time to retire it. It might be an untapped work of art.

Here are some other inexpensive ideas that will provide additional personality for your home decor: • Add volume to your tree by inserting red silk poinsettias in between the tree branches with simple silver bells. This is a simple yet elegant look. White poinsettias and gold bells work well also.

and a collection of similarly framed photographs of past memorable Christmas celebrations or winter scenes. • Don’t forget the powder room: Place a row of wine glasses on a shelf, and fill them with floating candles and water. Wrap silver star tinsel or ribbon around the bases of the glasses. • Blend your decorations with the color palette of your home. It’s become quite popular to make the tree match the overall decorating style of the room/house.

• Attach pine or eucalyptus garlands over an entryway to add fragrance • Fill a large glass bowl with cinnamon sticks and clove-covered oranges, and place it in the bathroom. • Scented candles are a great way to add aroma to your home. Bayberry, spiced orange, and cranberry and balsam are popular choices. Tip: The scent should be subtle, not overbearing. A cluster of candles should have only one or two that are scented, and they should be the same type. • If you’ve had it with artificial trees and you’re going back to au natural, try a Fraser fir. The silvery-green needles are soft to the touch, and if the tree is kept well-hydrated, you won’t run the risk of heavy shedding, as you would with other trees. Tip: Be sure to measure your space before making the purchase, keeping in mind the height of the room and the height of your tree stand. • If a tree isn’t an option for you this year, consider adding some holiday cheer to your houseplants with some white birch branches or pinecones. When it comes to holiday decorations: Find a theme that works for you and use your imagination because there are no rules.

We’re All About The Holiday Season! www.marytuttlesflowers.com

The Holiday Dinner – How to Spruce Up Your Table After spending hours preparing the perfect Christmas dinner, it would be a shame to serve it on the same old everyday dinnerware. Coordinate all your dinnerware and table pieces: plates, glasses, cutlery, tablecloths, place mats, napkins and napkin rings. You can buy special linens and dinnerware or decorate existing pieces. This is especially true if you're trying to cut costs. One example is to buy some plain glasses from a dollar store and paint holly, stars, snowflakes, etc., on them. They'll look just as great and will cost a lot less than pre-made items. Choose a Theme – If you're looking for something a little less formal, consider decorating your table in "The Night Before Christmas" theme. This classic poem has long been a favorite among the young and young at heart. It perfectly captures the spirit of Christmas:

Where to Shop This Holiday Season Here are some neighborhood stores with the holiday accessories and decorations to dress up your home

• Cover the table with a green or red tablecloth. Use a white table runner or cotton batting to create "snow." Add some small paper snowflakes and sparkles. • Place small decorations of Santa, his sleigh and reindeer on the snow. • Place sugarplums (or wrapped candies) randomly around the table to depict: "While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads." • Hide a small toy mouse under a napkin near the main decorations to depict: "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse." • Hang small stockings around the edge of the table to depict: "The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there." • Place small wrapped gifts beside each place setting. • Label place setting cards with the names of Santa’s reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen.

Whether you’re a traditionalist who prefers to celebrate Christmas with tried-and-true lights and decoration or a trend setter who dares to decorate outside the box, the No. 1 thing is to plan ahead and give yourself enough time to enjoy the holidays. After all, you won’t have another chance until next year. By Annette Castellano 41

Mr Potato Head Kids are fascinated with faces from birth, and Mr. Potato Head helps them learn hand-eye coordination while they make their potato look as funny as their imagination desires. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The boys are back in a big way this year: some predict the Turtle toys will be hard to find after November.

Building Blocks The first wooden play blocks were invented by Fredrich Froebel—the man who also invented Kindergarten. So he knew a thing or two about children. Babies bang them….toddlers stack them and knock them down (over and over!). Older kids imagine and design fantastical worlds and creations.

Kinectic Sand and Art Kit It’s been called “The Maker Movement”: parents are encouraging more handson classic play with craft kits like Crayola Paint Maker, DohVinci and Lego Fusion Town Master. Leap Band and Kidizoon Smart Watch Mimicking Mom and Dad is all the rage this year, with these fitness bands and kids’ smart watches.

Etch a Sketch Ohio Art has sold more than 160 million of them since 1960. Kids love a challenge (remember learning to write your name on that Etch A Sketch?) and nothing is more satisfying than building that set of stairs or a building there. And the satisfaction of turning the screen over and making it all disappear? Wow. Crayons According to Disney, the average kid will break, wear down or lose over 703 crayons by the time he’s 10. Get your toddler his first “big box”—the one with the sharpener—and a couple of coloring books of his own. Although I am a big “stay in the lines” person, there’s room for all kinds of creativity with crayons. Matchbox Cars It’s all about the crashes. And sound effects. Every child needs a handful of tiny cars and a pile of dirt to play with. You can take Matchbox cars anywhere; Grandma’s

house is less boring with cars to run over her patterned area rug. Imagination can take these cars to roads we adults can never travel. Chatter Telephone Originally called the “Talk-Back” phone, Fisher Price changed its name to the more polite “Chatter Telephone” one year after its invention in 1962. When they tried to change the rotary dial to pushbutton, though, complaints rang out and they changed it back. Not a cell phone…but so much fun for little fingers. 42

PreSchool Innovation Technology Even this little kids are going tech: Imaginext DC Super Friends R/C Transforming Batbot (Wow!), Doc McStuffins Get Better Talking Mobile and Go! Go! Tasty Tidbits from Eateries in and Around Chesterfield Libations for the Holidays!

Make A Delicious Wassail Punch

T

he holidays are quickly approaching. There will be small to large gatherings at homes across St. Louis. Friends and relatives could drop by for a nice unexpected visit. Now is the time to start thinking about having quality libations ready for the holidays. Most guests, when asked what they would like to drink, are not ready to make that decision. Have an assortment of quality basics and some easy suggestions for them. 1) Red wine for the chilly holiday gatherings is a must. Stay away from big reds like Cabernet that require a lot of "breathing." Blends can be complex enough to satisfy most palates. Shiraz, Merlot and red Zinfandels do not require a lot of managing. 2) White wines of course. Chardonnay drinkers love white wine in general. There are white wine drinkers that will not drink Chardonnay. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc should cover your white wine needs. 3) Sparkling wine is fun. You do not have to spend a lot of money for a good bubbly. Remember: bubbles go with almost anything. It also sends a message to your guests that they are welcome. Mix your bubbly with peach nectar or Chambord. 4) Spirits are always a crowd-pleaser. Bourbon, Scotch, Canadian and Irish should satisfy all of your Whiskey needs. Vodka is a must. You need one Vodka that is good to mix with or to simply drink on the rocks. Gin, spiced Rum and a good sipping Tequila should complete your spirits selection. 5) Mixers should be simple. Tonic, diet tonic, club soda, Coke, Diet Coke, Ginger Beer, limes, lemons, peach nectar and Chambord should complete your mixing needs. 6) Beer is a staple. During holiday gatherings guests would prefer to drink beer from a glass or bottle rather than a can. Keep your selections high in quality, but simple. You do not have to try and anticipate every request of every guest. As long as you have put some thought and effort into your purchases, you will have a successful holiday season.
