Hemos visto un segmento de la película The Social Network (You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies) junto con el reportaje The Deep Web . Cada alumno hizo un visionado individual en casa siguiendo la metodología de Flipped Learning e hizo una reflexión sobre el tema a partir de un cuestionario preparado al efecto. Mientras hacíamos esta actividad, supimos del reportaje de la CBSN, How Google and Facebook keep tabs on you.
Good morning! We are delighted to meet you online once again. We’ve been doing some research on the Social Media topic you suggested for this videoconference. We’re gonna present our conclusions. After that, you can also present your ideas.
1.- How do Google and Facebook keep tabs on you? What's wrong?Carlos P., Alberto B. and Alba Martinez We’ve found out that Google and Facebook store personal data, such as location, name, hobbies, interests, likes, dislikes, etc. They control it and they know about your life thanks to your search history, your contacts, your games and thanks to that information, they send you advertisements that might interest you. It’s wrong that they do that because it’s a violation of a person’s privacy. 2.- What conclusions did your group come to on Google and Facebook keeping tabs on you? Carlos P. Our group discussed it in the debate and concluded that what Google and Facebook did was not good and it’s dangerous for their users. However, we need to be cautious and more careful when accepting the terms and conditions of the network. Moreover, it is obvious that we need to be aware of the content we post and who can see it.
3.- What can be bought and sold on The Deep Web? María P. In the Deep Web you can find things that aren’t in the normal web, like illegal things. The stuff you can buy and sell are: drugs, counterfeit currency, forged papers, firearms, ammunition and explosives, hitmen, and human organs. The people who try to buy and sell these things on the Deep Web do it for not going to jail, because it is more difficult to be caught on the Deep Web than in real life. 4.- What should be done to this trade? Jia Y. From my point of view, the government has to eliminate this trade (buying and selling such things on the Deep Web) because it is a real danger for all of us. Any crazy person can buy anything at this web and carry out an attack like the terrorists or may be a crazy person wants to buy a gun or another weapon to shoot people, but also this web is useful to the government to catch these crazy people and send them to prison. 5.- What are the risks for society? Carlos S. As María said, the Deep Web sells weapons, every type of organs, and even drugs. That’s a big risk due to the fact that everyone can buy these stuff, so imagine countries like North Korea buying every gun they can. That would be a huge problem. If police could catch everyone related and involved in Deep Web...but it’s impossible. 6.- Should there be restrictions like in China or North Korea? Vicente M. I am of those who think that there should be those restrictions as there’re many people who use them to hurt others. What goes on in China or North Korea is excessive from all points of view. 7.- What conclusions did your group come to on The Deep Web? Rubén S. As my classmate say the Deep Web isn’t a good place in internet because in this place everything is illegal. We have the conclusion that the Web is bad for society and the police of every country should eliminate this. Besides is a dangerous place . In conclusion no one is agree with the existence of this type of web. 8.- What are the main Social Media (SM) used by people your age? Jordi P. Nowadays, people between 13 and 25 years old use social media everyday. I think the main social media we use are Instagram and WhatsApp. Everyone has an instagram account and there you can post photos, instastories and ever do streamings. And what is whatsapp? WhatsApp is a chat App where you can talk with friends, classmates or your family in real time. 9.- What are the misuses of people your age? Rodrigo B. Accepting and talking to people they don´t know are important bad uses of them. They post some personal information on the web and some hot pictures, then someone can use that information. Also they can do cyberbullying because you don’t know who is behind the screen. 10.- Arguments for SM. Carlos P. and Paula M.
However their good side is that they are a good tool to keep in touch with friends/family. Perhaps we communicate much more than if we had to call. Another good point about SM is that we can know new people and make new friends. SM it's a good way to entertain yourself too, because you can find a lot of funny stuff there. and nowdays you can even find a job on SM. 11.- Arguments against SM. Álex Núñez People who are using SM maybe should have less expressions than one is always talking face to face. SM is not always a good way to communicate because there are some guys who can steal your personal information, your number of your own credit card, etc. These guys are called hackers and they are one of the biggest threat of the SM in whole world. 12.- Tips to make good use of SM. Carlos P. and Aarón M. To make good use of the SM you have to control who can access your posts. Not giving personal information that might affect you or your closest environment. Aarón's part: Nowadays, I think that the only thing you have to do is respect other people. I'm saying this because most of the people, like us, use social media just to spend the time or interact with other, such us to talk with friends, family, watch the celebrities publications… So, to make a good use of social media, you must respect the other users to prevent and eliminate problems like cyber-bullying, spam...

Y NO PODÍA FALTAR UN SELFIE BILATERAL.
Econference: Pros and cons of social media GERMANY Questionnaire: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
Which are your favorite social media platforms? Why? When do you look at your mobile phone for the first time on a normal day? Do you use your mobile phone while you’re on the toilet? What do you think about people who post their whole lives on social media platforms? Would you say that you are addicted to social media? Would you prefer to not grow up in a digital world?
Pros of social media To begin with the positive side of social media, it really is a big possibility to connect with people around the world. You are able to “meet” new people and learn something about their culture or daily lives. If your friends and family live in a different country it makes it easier for you to keep in touch with them. Like us! If we didn’t have social media accounts, it would be more difficult to stay connected. The next benefit of social media is that they offer their users the chance to learn pretty much everything. If you didn’t understand your school work or just want to know more about a certain topic, social media, for example Youtube make it simple too inform yourselves about whatever you want. Sometimes it even happens that Youtube videos explain things better than your teacher does. This is great because you could then get better grades or just understand what your teacher at school is talking about.
A disadvantage of social media is that you spend a lot of time online. In total it’s probably one or two hours a day in which you can’t do any productive things. As a consequence you have less or even no time for school. Furthermore you aren’t focused on homework or preparation for class. You probably go to bed late because you can’t stop texting. As a consequence you get little sleep and so you are tired the next day and can’t concentrate in school. A second risk is that you can become isolated. If you communicate only with your phone, you won’t meet your friends in person anymore. You spend your whole day in front of your phone or computer and consequently you don’t go out to get some fresh air. This is also bad for your health.
Ideal use of social media -
Don’t give any personal information to strangers -> protect yourself Be careful about posting/ sharing photos Know how much time you want to spend on social media Don’t let social media influence your “offline-life” Keep in mind that there is more than just social media Don’t bully others Use social media also for serious/useful things, not only for fun Find other hobbies that you can do when you’re bored Put your phone down when you’re with friends
