La Fondazione Pastificio Cerere

La Fondazione Pastificio Cerere nasce a Roma nel 2004 per volontà del suo presidente, Flavio Misciattelli, con l’obiettivo di promuovere e diffondere l’arte contemporanea, attraverso lo sviluppo di rapporti e di relazioni con enti pubblici e privati, istituzioni culturali nazionali ed estere.

La Fondazione sorge all’interno del Pastificio Cerere, un’ex fabbrica di pasta diventata celebre negli anni Ottanta come sede del “Gruppo di San Lorenzo”, di cui hanno fatto parte Nunzio, Bruno Ceccobelli, Gianni Dessì, Giuseppe Gallo, Piero Pizzi Cannella e Marco Tirelli. Ancora oggi, gli spazi dell’ex stabilimento industriale ospitano studi d’artista, gallerie d’arte, scuole di fotografia e studi di grafica.

La Fondazione realizza e promuove progetti formativi e programmi di residenze dedicati a giovani artisti e curatori, insieme a un ricco programma di mostre, conferenze, workshop e studio visit. La formazione è il trait d’union delle attività promosse dalla Fondazione che punta a mettere in atto progetti che coinvolgano un pubblico ampio ed eterogeneo, grazie a una programmazione diversificata e alla presenza dell’archivio che raccoglie testi di documentazione e ricerca, testimoniando il grande patrimonio culturale che anima da più di trent’anni la vita dell’ex Pastificio.

Uno degli obiettivi principali della pro-

grammazione artistica è quello di stabilire un dialogo particolare con gli studenti che abitano e vivono il quartiere di San Lorenzo, storicamente e fortemente legato all’università degli studi di Roma “La Sapienza”, che si trova a pochi passi dalla sede della Fondazione.

IV edizione del Premio 6ARTISTA Davide Stucchi/ Helena Hladilová

Tra i progetti formativi ideati dalla Fondazione Pastificio Cerere spicca il Premio 6ARTISTA. Istituito nel 2009 insieme all’Associazione Civita, e sostenuto da Fondazione Roma e Camera di Commercio, il Premio 6ARTISTA è un programma di residenze per due giovani artisti under 30 che vivono in Italia, a cui si può accedere partecipando a un open call.

Il progetto nasce dal desiderio di sopperire a una mancanza evidente nella città di Roma, dove a fronte di un grande numero di residenze per artisti stranieri, erano rare le possibilità di residenze per artisti italiani.

Il Premio 6ARTISTA, da una parte recupera l’atmosfera di quella che storicamente era la funzione dell’ex Pastificio, come luogo di produzione e di diffusione dell’arte contemporanea, dall’altra crea una via alternativa a quella istituzionale per incentivare la rete di contatti tra i giovani artisti e il sistema dell’arte contemporanea.

Dalla seconda edizione del premio, l’internazionalizzazione delle residenze e l’attivazione di partenariati e di accordi con istituti culturali di primo piano che si occupano di formazione e promozione culturale, permettono ai vincitori di risiedere per tre mesi a Parigi presso la Cité Internationale des Arts, grazie alla collaborazione con gli Incontri Internazionali d’Arte di Roma.

Il Premio 6ARTISTA si avvale inoltre della partnership del MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma, che ospita le mostre di fine residenza dei due artisti vincitori.

I vincitori della IV Edizione del Premio sono Davide Stucchi e Helena Hladilová.

DAVIDE STUCCHI (1988, vive e lavora a Milano).

Ha studiato a Milano presso l’Accademia di Belle arti di Brera e presso la Royal Academy of Fine Art di Anversa in Belgio.

Dal 2011 è co-fondatore e co-curatore dello spazio espositivo Gasconade a Milano.

Nel 2012 vince il premio Dior As Seen By, La Triennale, Milano.

Nel 2013 è finalista per la Nona Edizione del Premio Furla per l’Arte, Bologna.

1983, vive e lavora a Roma).

Formatasi alla Facoltà di Belle Arti dell’Università VUT, Brno; all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera di Milano e all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara.

Dal 2008 è co-fondatrice e co-curatrice dello spazio espositivo GUM studio a Torino. Ha partecipato all’Advanced Course in Visual Arts, Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como e Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’arte, Poirino. Nel 2012 partecipa alla mostra collettiva Sotto la strada, la spiaggia, presso la Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino; III Moscow International Biennale for Young art di Mosca. Nel 2013 partecipa alla mostra personale Vitrine 270° alla Gam di Torino.

Curatore in residenza 2013 Alessandro Dandini de Sylva

Grazie al progetto Curatore in residenza, avviato nel 2011, un giovane curatore, nominato dal Direttore artistico della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, viene invitato a realizzare un percorso culturale per la Fondazione. La residenza, della durata di un anno, prevede l’organizzazione di mostre e progetti site specific, cicli di conferenze e la produzione di pubblicazioni.

Curatore in residenza per il 2013 è Alessandro Dandini de Sylva.

Alessandro Dandini de Sylva (Roma, 1981, vive e lavora a Roma) Fotografo e curatore, i suoi lavori sono stati esposti in varie mostre in Italia e all’estero, e recentemente presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Parigi e Operativa Arte Contemporanea a Roma. Nel 2009 è finalista per il Talent Prize ed espone al Museo Centrale Montemartini di Roma.

Dal 2011 è curatore di FOTOGRAFIA – Festival Internazionale di Roma, in programma al MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma. Nel 2012 è artista residente presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Parigi durante il Mois de la Photo.

Nel 2013 è invitato da Marcello Smarrelli come Curatore in Residenza alla Fondazione Pastificio Cerere. Recentemente selezionato per il Premio Shanghai, nel 2014 esporrà al Bund 33 di Shanghai.

pastificio_lab nasce da un’idea di Marcello Smarrelli, direttore artistico della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, con lo scopo di creare una piattaforma culturale che sviluppi iniziative volte a coinvolgere un pubblico sempre più diversificato.

L’obiettivo è avvicinare i giovani e gli studenti universitari che popolano San Lorenzo, quartiere in cui ha sede il Pastificio Cerere, da sempre luogo di fermento culturale e sociale.

La realizzazione degli appuntamenti di pastificio_lab è affidata al collettivo sguardo contemporaneo, che ha impostato una programmazione all’insegna della multidisciplinarietà. Attraverso una ricca proposta di incontri, mostre, laboratori è favorita l’interazione dei linguaggi artistici contemporanei e la sperimentazione di nuove modalità d’intervento e partecipazione, stimolando un dialogo aperto fra artisti, pubblico, addetti ai lavori e non.

Sguardo Contemporaneo è un collettivo fondato nel 2007 a Roma e operativo nel campo della curatela espositiva con l’obiettivo di promuovere gli artisti emergenti. Tra i progetti più recenti, si distinuguono: cartabianca_roma (co-curata con Carla Subrizi e Nero), Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Villa Croce, Genova, maggio - giugno 2012; Nuova Gestione, progetto community specific, quartiere Quadraro di Roma, febbraio 2012.

Attualmente sta lavorando alla seconda edizione di Nuova Gestione (quartiere Casal Bertone, 11-23 marzo 2014).

Il legame tra la Fondazione Pastificio Cerere e il territorio - in particolare il quartiere di San Lorenzo - trova conferma nella scelta di iniziare, con Pastificio_arch, una riflessione su tematiche architettoniche. Il progetto, ideato da Marcello Smarrelli, è curato per il 2013 da STRATO/Martino Fraschetti_Maria Clara Ghia_Vincenzo Tattolo, che ha proposto il tema FIND YOUR CORNER. 2,5 x 5.

Particolare attenzione è posta sul tema dello spazio urbano e su come questo sia legato al vissuto, ai bisogni e ai desideri dei suoi abitanti. Gli studi di architettura invitati da STRATO si cimenteranno con porzioni di spazio in cui creare un evento: 2,5 x 5 m. è la dimensione standard di un posto auto. Per la durata di un giorno, davanti all’ingresso della Fondazione, la superficie occupata da un’auto è trasformata dai progetti di Pastificio_arch e restituita al quartiere. FIND YOUR CORNER ha l’obiettivo di creare uno spazio aperto a qualsiasi tipo d’uso, proprio dove questo è negato.

STRATO

Nasce nel 2007 a Roma e si occupa di interni, allestimenti, concorsi, ricerca teorica. È un contenitore allargato, frutto di contributi differenti per sviluppare idee e percorsi di indagine sui temi dell’architettura.

La ricerca di Ettore Favini tende ad esplorare il rapporto dell’uomo con la natura e lo scorrere del tempo leggendo il contesto sociale nella sua complessità. Le opere – realizzate utilizzando tecniche e materiali diversi - diventano materia processuale esse stesse. Ogni intervento è infatti aperto e sembra costituire l’evoluzione, la crescita e la messa in discussione del precedente.

Per la personale presso la Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, l’artista ripropone il tema dell’ecologia in chiave contemporanea coinvolgendo lo spettatore in un “gioco” che lo impegna ad un atto responsabile verso se stesso e verso l’ambiente. Un atto compiuto da un singolo può produrre cambiamenti sostanziali solo se si ripete innumerevoli volte e, tanti micro cambiamenti su scala locale, possono dare vita ad un macro cambiamento.

Verdecuratoda…voi rientra nel più ampio progetto Verdecuratoda, iniziato nel 2005 e rappresenta l’opportunità di attuare una vera e propria metamorfosi dell’ambiente. Oltre all’obiettivo di avviare la forestazione urbana di specie verdi, questa fase del progetto, pensata appositamente per la Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, ha usato la farfalla come metafora che è un importante indicatore dello stato di salute nell’aria. L’intervento si configura come il numero zero di una serie successiva di eventi simili da riproporre su scala internazionale.

La mostra prevede alcuni dispositivi in stretta relazione tra loro. All’interno dello spazio è posizionata una scultura-distributore da dove si prelevano, con una moneta da 1 euro, sfere contenenti semi di piante, di cespugli e di fiori utili all'alimentazione e alla riproduzione delle farfalle. Il fruitore, attraverso le istruzioni contenute all’interno, ha la possibilità di piantare i semi e diventare parte attiva dell’operazione.

L’obiettivo utopico, è quello di realizzare la più grande scultura vegetale del mondo.

Nel cortile l’artista realizza un allestimento con le varie specie arboree di semi presenti nelle sfere mentre nell’ex silos del Pastificio è proiettata La Verde Utopia, una conversazione di Ettore Favini con Alessandra Sandrolini e Gilles Clément, giardiniere, teorico e sostenitore della biodiversità.

Il progetto prevede la realizzazione all’interno del sito www.verdecuratoda.com di una sezione dove il pubblico potrà indicare il punto esatto della propria semina e inviare le immagini delle piantine germinate, contribuendo così a realizzare la mappa della scultura vegetale.

Sullo stesso sito internet è possibile acquistare oggetti in edizione limitata che Ettore Favini ha realizzato in collaborazione con Canedicoda.

tori automatici posizionati in seguito negli spazi di istituzioni, fondazioni, musei interessati ad aderire all’iniziativa Verdecuratoda.

Più che un semplice oggetto, il distributore diventa una micro architettura che definisce uno spazio d’uso, dando un valore alla sua funzione primaria, un’opera d’arte collettiva.

La mostra ha un suo ideale proseguimento nel manifesto ideato da Ettore Favini per Postcar from… - progetto volto a diffondere l’arte contemporanea nel contesto urbano – dal titolo Le farfalle volano sulla città pulita.

Il progetto consiste nell’invitare artisti italiani e internazionali a ideare un’immagine per un manifesto di grandi dimensioni (400x300), affisso sia nel cortile della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, sia in vari impianti pubblicitari di Roma messi a disposizione dalla A.P.A. Agenzia Pubblicitaria Affissioni.

Nel manifesto di Favini compaiono immagini di farfalle italiane per la maggior parte scomparse dalle nostre città, con l’intenzione di ripopolare idealmente i luoghi in cui verranno affissi durante il periodo della mostra.

Ettore Favini ha vinto nel 2005 il Pre-

mio Artegiovane delle Camere di Commercio di Milano e Torino, nel 2007 del Premio New York presso la Columbia University, é stato Finalista del Premio del Castello di Rivoli nel 2009 e nel 2013 con Antonio Rovaldi della 48° edizione del Premio Suzzara, nel 2012 é stato residente alla Civitella Ranieri Foundation.

Ghitta Carell e il potere del ritratto è un’ampia retrospettiva dedicata alla celebre ritrattista, a cura di Diego Mormorio - affiancato da un comitato scientifico composto da: Ottavio Celestino, Flavio Misciattelli, Stefano Palumbo e Marcello Smarrelli - con oltre 150 fotografie che restituiscono la testimonianza della storia di un’epoca attraverso i suoi protagonisti, dagli anni Trenta agli anni Cinquanta.

La mostra, voluta e sostenuta da Elsa Peretti Presidente delle Fondazioni Nando e Elsa Peretti, in collaborazione con la Fondazione 3M che ha fornito per l’occasione la maggior parte del patrimonio fotografico, vuole contribuire a riconsiderare la figura di Ghitta Carell all’interno della vitalità della fotografia italiana – e più in generale della cultura – affrontando, da una parte il tema del ritratto come questione fondamentale nella storia della rappresentazione visiva e come punto nodale dell’arte moderna, e dall’altra esaminando la produzione dell’artista all’interno degli sviluppi socio-antropologici dell’Italia del periodo in cui ha operato.

Nata il 20 settembre del 1899 nell’Ungheria del nord-est, imparò la tecnica fotografica a Budapest, in un corso di fotografia per signorine. Proseguì la sua formazione fotografica a Vienna e Lipsia, per approdare nel 1924 a Firenze e poi a Milano, dove ben presto diviene una fotografa apprezzatissima, soprat-

tutto dai personaggi dell’alta finanza e dell’aristocrazia. Si trasferisce da lì a poco nella capitale e, con la sola forza della sua arte, riesce a conquistare tutti: fu a Roma che divenne la fotografa che conosciamo, la “signora del ritocco”, la “fotografa dei potenti”. E ciò in pieno fascismo, del quale non sappiamo esattamente che idea ella si fosse fatta.

La fine della guerra la riportò all’antica fama: tutto il gotha democristiano posò sotto le lampade di questa fotografa che nel 1959 divenne cittadina italiana. Si allontanò dall’Italia in sordina e scelse Haifa, in Israele, come paese per i suoi ultimi giorni.

Tutto il successo di Ghitta Carell veniva dalla composizione e dall’evanescenza delle sue fotografie che diventano segno inconfondibile dei suoi ritratti. Era una grande esperta del ritocco che consisteva nel lavorare con delicatezza sul retro della lastra, sulla superficie non emulsionata del vetro: in corrispondenza dei tratti che voleva modificare, ella tracciava dei segni di matita, anneriva o imbiancava.

Sulla stampa definitiva della fotografia, queste linee fatte sul vetro non apparivano mai nette ma risultavano sfumate determinando così un effetto flou.

In questo modo Carell dava certi tocchi di luce ai capelli che restano indimenticati. Metteva sulle teste – soprattutto delle signore – riflessi che l’illuminazione non poteva determinare e che sono una

parte affascinante della sua fotografia.

La mostra si sviluppa in un percorso che si snoda all’interno del Pastificio Cerere occupando i luoghi più suggestivi dell’ex edificio industriale: le fotografie originali sono esposte nel silos del grano, spazio espositivo della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, i personaggi ecclesiastici nello Studio d’arte contemporanea Pino Casagrande, i soggetti femminili al Ristorante Pastificio San Lorenzo e il corpus restante delle opere, numericamente il più consistente, presso lo Spazio Cerere. suo insieme, com’era avvenuto nella celebre mostra Ateliers del 1984, curata da Achille Bonito Oliva. Il desiderio di impegnarsi in un progetto così importante incentrato sulla fotografia, corrisponde allo storico rapporto che il Pastificio ha instaurato con questo medium, iniziato negli anni ’70 con la straordinaria presenza di Francesca Woodman che proprio tra le mura dell’ex edificio industriale, circondata dagli amici artisti della Nuova Scuola Romana, maturava le sue ispirazioni, trovando qui le ambientazioni più adatte ai suoi scatti più celebri.

Per la mostra Ghitta Carell e il potere del ritratto è pubblicato un catalogo trilingue (italiano, inglese e spagnolo) con un saggio introduttivo di Diego Mormorio e un ampio apparato iconografico incentrato in particolare sulla storia della ritrattistica.

In Conversazioni notturne / Late night conversations ogni fotografia è un incontro, in ogni inquadratura si può vedere un solo soggetto alla volta. Annullando ogni riferimento di spazio e tempo, in una forma di tassonomia, Stefano Graziani individua una serie di elementi attraverso cui articola un processo di conoscenza e interpretazione del mondo.

In questa nuova serie di fotografie, come per la precedente Under the Volcano and Other Stories, estraendo l’immagine dal suo contesto informativo e sottraendole la sua utilità originaria, Stefano Graziani trasforma il documento fotografico in un potente strumento di stimolo dell’immaginazione e, grazie a questo, di rigenerazione poetica. In una conversazione con Rene Gabri, l’artista descrive il suo lavoro come guardarsi attorno con una luce diversa: una “nebbia atmosferica” avvolge le sue immagini, offrendo nuove visioni e rendendo nuove cose visibili; una condizione in cui tutte le volte sono come la prima volta.

Allo stesso tempo non possiamo esplorare ogni sua immagine se non in quanto specchio, e indagarla incessantemente come differenza. Il titolo del lavoro suggerisce questo forte legame con l'inconscio; un momento di dubbio, di meraviglia, di fantasmi, sogni e strani accadimenti.

fotografia come autoanalisi, come strumento per poterci guardare. Anselm Franke, nel suo testo Culto dei morti, lo spirito dei pappagalli e l’anima, introduce il concetto di “immaginazione geologica”, un delirio che risveglia sogni di tribù e regni inabissati, attraverso i quali, il più estremo passato e il più lontano futuro, diventano ancora una volta la stessa cosa.

La mostra è il primo appuntamento che Alessandro Dandini de Sylva realizza come curatore in residenza della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere per il 2013 in linea con la programmazione di quest’anno che ha dato particolarmente rilievo al linguaggio fotografico.

Nel 2009 ha iniziato il progetto A mini Museum for Franco Basaglia. Recentemente ha curato la pubblicazione di saggi di Jeff Wall, Gestus. Scritti sull’arte e la fotografia (Quodlibet / Abitare, 2013).

Assieme ad altri colleghi è ideatore della rivista San Rocco.

La mostra è il secondo appuntamento che Alessandro Dandini de Sylva realizza come curatore in residenza della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere per il 2013, in linea con la programmazione di quest’anno che ha dato particolarmente rilievo al linguaggio fotografico.

Palinopsia presenta una selezione di opere recenti che si interrogano sullo stato della fotografia e della cultura visiva al tempo di Internet.

Le nuove tecnologie hanno notevolmente influenzato la pratica fotografica, ampliando il suo vocabolario e il campo di applicazione del suo potenziale sviluppo.

Tali cambiamenti hanno aperto uno spazio in cui i software di elaborazione grafica diventano il mezzo costitutivo di produzione per le immagini contemporanee. Esplorare l’immagine digitale allo stato grezzo e immateriale riflette un interesse in corso nella fotografia contemporanea che porta a confondere i confini tra interventi manuali ed effetti digitali, tra realtà e manipolazione. Il processo di creazione dell’immagine è ora trasparente, il gesto digitale chiaramente visibile, il linguaggio irrimediabilmente rivoluzionato. Enrico Boccioletti gioca con le convenzioni della fotografia, esplorando i suoi limiti e le sue contraddizioni. Rendendo la meccanica degli strumenti di produzione digitale una parte evidente dell’immagine, mette in discussione la realtà di ciò che vediamo e la condizione

Combinando e confondendo volutamente i vari mezzi di produzione visiva, Enrico Boccioletti ci ricorda che la manipolazione intenzionale è sempre stata presente nella fotografia e che, invece di minacciare il mezzo, la malleabilità digitale è una delle sue più grandi fonti di vitalità.

L’esposizione presenta per la prima volta al pubblico l’ampia produzione di disegni e collage che da sempre accompagna l’attività architettonica di Carmelo Baglivo dello studio IaN+. La mostra rientra all’interno di uno specifico interesse da parte della Fondazione per l’architettura, importante obiettivo formativo di una proposta culturale che vede l’arte contemporanea in costante dialogo con altre discipline.

Disegni corsari, come afferma Baglivo, “è un chiaro omaggio a quegli scritti pasoliniani dove è lasciato al lettore il compito di rimettere ordine tra i frammenti di un’opera dispersa e incompleta. Allo stesso modo i miei disegni parlano di architettura attraverso immagini autonome e fuori dalla storia, in attesa che chi guarda possa costruire il proprio personale percorso.”

L’esposizione si articola secondo tre aree tematiche che si susseguono negli spazi della Fondazione.

Le pareti della sala introduttiva ospitano una collezione di disegni con formati, tecniche e supporti diversi. Si tratta di pensieri su carta, schizzi, acquerelli o fumetti che rappresentano alcuni dei più interessanti progetti dello studio IaN+ o semplicemente suggestioni utili a nutrire l’immaginario concettuale e creativo dell’architetto. Una ricerca sulla forma dell’architettura e della città registrata con gesti rapidi, sintetici, imprecisi, ti-

pici del momento in cui si fissa l’idea.

Con questo primo passaggio, al visitatore è svelato l’aspetto più introspettivo e riflessivo del fare architettura, spesso scarsamente noto.

Nella seconda sala campeggiano 8 collage realizzati in digitale attraverso la sovrapposizione di griglie, superfetazioni e immagini monolitiche su alcuni celebri paesaggi di Piranesi. I collage, impressi su supporto metallico, ricordano le lastre di incisione, attivando un processo di mimesi che tenta di mescolare l’originale e la sua alterazione.

Da qui lo spazio inizia a rarefarsi per anticipare l’ultima stanza, in cui il pubblico si immerge in un flusso incessante di immagini digitali, accompagnato dalla colonna sonora composta e interpretata per l’occasione da TactusFugitComposingSounds (Federico Giangrandi, Simona Marino, Alessio Santoni).

Sono collage che rappresentano gli ultimi esiti di una sperimentazione sempre al confine tra arte e architettura. Testimoniano le immaginarie peregrinazioni di un flâneur contemporaneo che sembra volerci osservare con gli occhi di alcuni personaggi presi a prestito dal cinema autoriale italiano, da Fellini a Pasolini.

Queste figure ricorrenti si affacciano su paesaggi urbani portati all’estremo, speculazioni più o meno possibili di città contemporanee con geometrie e segni desunti dal vocabolario di quell’architet-

tura radicale spesso citata come fonte del percorso progettuale di IaN+. Alle città di invenzione si accostano le metamorfosi operate, secondo linguaggi inediti e talvolta provocatori, su progetti di grandi maestri dell’architettura internazionale.

La mostra Carmelo Baglivo. Disegni corsari svela un complesso ambito sperimentale che, lungi dall’essere puro esercizio di svago, diventa una necessaria riflessione critica per immagini sulla condizione dell’architettura in una città da ripensare e trasformare. Una ricerca libera nata per alimentare e strutturare la dimensione prettamente architettonica della professione.

Nel giorno dell’inaugurazione presso il Ristorante Pastificio San Lorenzo, si è tenuta una conversazione dell’autore con Gian Piero Frassinelli, storico fondatore del gruppo radicale Superstudio, e Luca Molinari, critico e curatore di architettura.

tura a Roma. Con Luca Galofaro e Stefania Manna, nel 1997 fonda lo studio IaN+ con il quale ottiene importanti riconoscimenti e vince concorsi nazionali e internazionali. Tra gli altri riceve la Medaglia D’Oro all’Architettura Italiana (2006); il PrixSpécial Catégorie Enseignants dell’École Spéciale d’Architecture di Parigi nel 2011, la menzione d’onore al premio Zumtobel Award 2012. I progetti di IaN+ fanno parte della collezione permanente del FRAC Centre di Orléans e del Museo MAXXI di Roma.

Baglivo ha presentato i suoi disegni e collage in occasione della conversazione Carmelo Baglivo VS Beniamino Servino a Design Talks allo IED di Roma e durante la lecture Upcycling the city, organizzata dall’Istituto Nazionale di Architettura di Roma. Una selezione di suoi collage è stata esposta nella mostra Cut ‘n’ Paste: From Architectural Assemblage to Collage City, curata da Pedro Gadanho presso il MoMA di New York (2013). Baglivo ha insegnato alla facoltà di architettura di Ferrara. Attualmente è docente del Master in tecnologie emergenti dell’Inarch di Roma.

Il rituale del serpente nasce da un’idea di Gianni Politi (Roma, 1986) che ha coinvolto gli artisti Alessandro Agudio (Milano, 1982), Andrea Dojmi (Roma, 1973), Giulio Delvè (Napoli, 1984), Matteo Nasini (Roma, 1976), Lupo Borgonovo (Milano, 1985), Helena Hladilová (Kroměříž, Repubblica Ceca, 1983) & Namsal Siedlecki (Greenfield, USA, 1986) e Renato Leotta (Torino, 1982).

Il titolo della mostra è un chiaro riferimento all’omonimo saggio di Aby Warburg, in cui è sottolineata l’importanza del potere psichico delle immagini nelle tribù native del Nord America, dove lo storico ebbe l’occasione di avvicinarsi ai rituali della magia indigena e alle origini del paganesimo. Da qui la necessità insita ed inconscia dell’uomo di “possedere” delle immagini per beneficiare del loro potere ancestrale e psichico.

Attraverso i lavori esposti, gli artisti intendono offrire allo spettatore l’opportunità per intraprendere un “viaggio” nel cosmo simbolico delle immagini con l’obiettivo di affermare il valore della lentezza posto in contrasto alla velocità dei linguaggi contemporanei. L’interesse comune protende verso un approccio pratico dell’arte che nasce dalla difficoltà di produrre qualcosa di nuovo in un’epoca in cui tutto sembra già esistere. E così Gianni Politi conclude la lettera scritta per presentare la mostra: “Le nostre personali mitologie ci accomunano molto

più di quanto crediamo. Da qui l’idea di una mostra collettiva e la condivisione dei medesimi dubbi, a cui tutti abbiamo risposto con proposte e soluzioni inaspettate […] un grande cosmo simbolico in cui ogni spettatore potrà specchiarsi”.

Davide Stucchi. Oggetti traditi La storia dell’arte è continuamente spinta a fare i conti con il naturale processo di deterioramento delle opere realizzate dall’uomo. Il trascorrere del tempo, unito alla furia degli elementi, ha messo a dura prova quella che Cesare Brandi definiva l’“unità potenziale dell’opera”, al punto che, in particolar modo a partire dal XVIII secolo, negli stessi artisti si sono fatti strada la fascinazione per la rovina, il gusto per il frammento e la lacuna (basti pensare, per citare alcuni esempi degni di nota, alle vedute della Roma antica di Giovanni Battista Piranesi o a quelle di Giovanni Paolo Pannini). Non è un caso che il dibattito sul restauro sia da sempre considerato un argomento controverso, capace di dividere gli addetti ai lavori e di suscitare discussioni anche nelle più vaste fasce di pubblico: da una parte chi considera le opere come un organismo, soggette a deperimento ed entropia (secondo quella linea di Davide Stucchi, Blinky Palermo (boxing gloves), 2013

pensiero che, in architettura, ha trovato in John Ruskin l’interprete più incisivo); dall’altra chi ritiene che il compito del restauro non sia soltanto quello di conservare, ma di ripristinare e, talvolta, ricostruire ex novo (in linea con le teorie propugnate da Eugène Viollet-le-Duc).

La creazione artistica si è dunque confrontata fin da tempi remotissimi con la propria decadenza, arrivando persino a praticare volontariamente atti di devastazione (il fenomeno dell’iconoclastia risale all’impero bizantino). In tempi più recenti, sulla scia di una “costante” che – come abbiamo visto – accompagna da sempre l’atto creativo, il tema della distruzione dell’opera è entrato a far parte in maniera programmatica delle pratiche artistiche. La riflessione che Davide Stucchi ha proposto come momento culminante della propria residenza muove proprio dall’interesse per l’oggetto residuale, lacunoso, compromesso, per giungere a una più ampia riflessione sull’aura dell’opera d’arte. Oggetti traditi, questo il titolo del progetto espositivo, raccoglie una selezione di sculture realizzate negli ultimi tre anni, affiancate ad altre prodotte nel corso della residenza. La mostra è dunque composta da un nucleo di opere sulle quali l’artista è nuovamente intervenuto, compiendo una seconda volta gli stessi gesti e interventi a lui necessari per produrle, con l’intenzione di riflettere sul loro statuto

e sulla loro funzione di feticcio nella società contemporanea, che le rende «cose dotate di un’eccedenza di senso, investite di affetti, simboli, memorie, illusioni».

Le opere galleggiano così in una sorta di limbo, alla ricerca di una collocazione: per esplorare ognuna di queste sculture (guanti, spazzole, piatti, maschere) risulta necessario indagare i cambiamenti di stato e forma che il tempo, fin dalla loro genesi, ha esercitato su di esse. Ed è così che, tornando ad agire ancora una volta sulla propria produzione artistica – una sorta di pentimento, tuttavia non privo di ironia –, Stucchi ne rinnova il senso, lasciando aperta una serie di interrogativi: fino a che punto un’opera d’arte, dopo ripetuti interventi, sovrapposizioni e ripensamenti, può essere considerata tale?

E ancora, di fronte a quell’opera, che tipo di spettatore si sceglie di essere?

Helena Hladilová. Capping La produzione artistica di Helena Hladilová manifesta un interesse spiccato per la dimensione esperienziale dell’opera, intesa come terreno di incontro tra pubblico e contesto espositivo. È l’opera che chiama a sé il pubblico, coinvolgendolo e invitandolo a interagire; ed è sempre l’opera che, proprio in virtù di questo scambio, trasforma l’abituale percezione dello spazio museale. Tale attitudine è presente anche in Capping, progetto sviluppato da Hladilová durante il pe-

riodo di residenza nell’ambito del programma 6ARTISTA. All’interno della Project Room 2 del MACRO, l’artista ha collocato un’installazione formata da pannelli di legno, ricoperti su un solo lato da plastilina bianca: una “scultura” scarna, senza fronzoli, vestita soltanto di uno strato malleabile. È proprio grazie a questo involucro così duttile che Capping rivela la sua “temperatura” interna.

La superficie dell’opera rappresenta infatti la zona franca nella quale è concesso l’intervento da parte del pubblico che, diventando parte attiva, può agire direttamente sull’opera e modellarne la forma esterna. In linea con uno degli indirizzi di ricerca che ha maggiormente segnato la produzione artistica degli ultimi vent’anni, Hladilová attua una strategia che può essere definita a pieno titolo “relazionale”: come notava il critico Nicolas Bourriaud l’interesse delle pratiche artistiche si è ormai rivolto verso la sfera delle relazioni umane e del contesto sociale, col risultato che l’arte ha finito per assumere come tema centrale l’incontro fra l’osservatore e l’opera, nonché l’elaborazione collettiva del senso. L’installazione di Helena Hladilová si colloca proprio nella terra di confine in cui intervento diretto del pubblico sull’opera e azione in tempo reale dànno origine a esiti imprevedibili: quanti “oseranno” avvicinarsi all’opera? Quale forma assumerà il lavoro al termine dell’esposi-

zione? Tale approccio determina anche uno spostamento dell’aura sul pubblico, e dunque non più «nel retro-mondo rappresentato dall’opera […], ma davanti a essa, entro la forma collettiva temporanea che produce esponendosi». In questo senso, Hladilová responsabilizza radicalmente chi si pone di fronte a Capping: il pubblico è chiamato a intrattenere un rapporto sensibile con l’opera, che si trasforma così in un sismografo capace di registrare gli effetti sui visitatori e le loro reazioni, la loro impronta – letterale – sull’opera, la stratificazione dei segni.

Lo stesso titolo rappresenta un ulteriore riferimento all’idea di continua sovrapposizione, maturato dall’artista nel corso della residenza a Roma, il cui tessuto urbano è frutto di una sedimentazione non sempre coerente di architetture, stili, storie. Capping è infatti un termine mutuato dal lessico del graffiti writing col quale si definisce la pratica di intervenire per cancellare o coprire un graffito con un altro segno. Alla stessa maniera, l’opera di Helena Hladilová si offre alla trasformazione e alla rottura della neutralità, come una pagina bianca in attesa di essere marchiata dalla scrittura.

Per il quarto appuntamento di pastificio_lab, sguardo contemporaneo presenta il progetto hour interview, pensato nell’ottica di un dialogo alternativo e più diretto con gli artisti. Il progetto in progress, ideato da Mauro Piccinini, raccoglie una serie di interviste rivolte ad artisti attivi in area romana: l’intervista ha l’obiettivo di rivelare la ‘giornata tipo’ dell’artista, il quale è chiamato a compilare un ‘modulo’ diviso in ventiquattro ore. Parallelamente alla compilazione del form, Piccinini ha realizzato una serie di brevi video, dei ritratti degli artisti nel loro ambiente di lavoro; un esperimento con il quale indagare in maniera diversa la pratica dell’intervista nell’arte contemporanea, in cui la domanda dell’intervistatore passa in secondo piano per dare spazio al processo creativo degli artisti. In anteprima sono presentate le tre videointerviste di Davide D’Elia, Andrea Aquilanti e Marco Bernardi.

In occasione di pastificio_lab#4 sguardo contemporaneo ha lanciato una open call rivolta agli artisti che operano a Roma e nel Lazio, invitati a condividere il proprio portfolio digitale in vista della creazione di un archivio online, primo nucleo di un database territoriale.

pastificio_lab#5 ospita una tappa del progetto W.I.P. Work in Process promosso da Teatri di Vetro Festival, Pensieri di Cartapesta e C.Re.S.Co. L’incontro, intitolato Sconfinamenti e confini, vede la partecipazione di Federico Bomba – autore e regista della compagnia Sineglossa di Ancona – in conversazione con Stefano Velotti, Professore associato di Estetica dell’Università “Sapienza” di Roma; Andrea Moneta, architetto e docente di Scenografia della Facoltà di Architettura dell’Università “Sapienza”; Leonardo Delogu, performer e regista; Silvia Marsano, coordinatrice della Fondazione Volume!; Lorenzo Cascelli, caporedattore della rivista online Pensieri di Cartapesta. L’incontro sviluppa una riflessione sul rapporto tra il teatro, le arti visive e la performance, mettendo in discussione le convenzionali categorie di spazio e tempo utilizzate nello spettacolo dal vivo.

sguardo contemporaneo cura il workshop Fotografie in scatola, sesto appuntamento di pastificio_lab, progetto finalizzato a rafforzare il legame con gli studenti che abitano il quartiere di San Lorenzo. Il laboratorio, tenuto dall’artista Francesco Capponi, ha coinvolto i partecipanti nella costruzione di una macchina fotografica dippold pinhole: un dispositivo artigianale, in linea con il principio del do it yourself, il cui funzionamento si basa sull’utilizzo del foro stenopeico. Accompagnati nelle vie del quartiere, i partecipanti al workshop hanno successivamente realizzato qualche scatto, apprendendo sul campo il funzionamento della pinhole. pastificio_lab#6 ha visto anche l’organizzazione della performance fotografica del collettivo Photo Circus PoGoVic, sempre nello Spazio Cerere: un evento a porte aperte in cui il pubblico è invitato a posare per un ritratto, poi modificato in presa diretta dai membri del collettivo e donato ai visitatori. Il progetto Circus PoGoVic nasce infatti dalla manipolazione delle fotografie stampate con la Polaroid PoGo su carta termoattiva, trattate e ‘maltrattate’ dagli artisti con acqua, fuoco, acetone, carta vetrata e altri materiali.

Materia sensibile. Da un’idea dell’artista Pablo Mesa Capella, Cartes de visite.

Materia sensibile nasce da una ricerca costante e quasi ossessiva di fotografie di piccolo formato provenienti da mercatini di mezza Europa: il cortile interno della Fondazione Pastificio Cerere ospita un’avvolgente installazione site specific in cui queste immagini anonime, frammenti di storie private abbandonate al caso, vengono recuperate e interpretate al fine di riscattarne la memoria. L’artista ha inoltre raccolto le testimonianze dirette di alcuni abitanti del quartiere San Lorenzo (anziani, negozianti, immigrati, studenti fuori sede), mappando le diverse realtà di un luogo denso di storie; il vissuto dei racconti e delle fotografie diventa così ‘materia sensibile’ che invade silenziosamente le vie del quartiere attraverso poster e installazioni sonore. Le visite guidate, anche notturne, coinvolgono in prima persona gli abitanti del quartiere e i protagonisti delle storie; i diversi ‘punti di ascolto’ disseminati per le vie di San Lorenzo sono fruibili attraverso

l’uso di audioguide, oppure attraverso una mappa sensibile da cui ascoltare in streaming tutte le tracce audio. Lo spazio del parcheggio è stato trasformato dallo studio HANASI DESIGN in un oggetto segreto, dal forte valore simbolico. Un parallelepipedo misterioso, uno spazio sensoriale aperto ma difficilmente accessibile, in cui i cittadini possono incontrarsi e godere del racconto della città.

Lo spazio interno è illuminato da tre lampade “BERSABEA”, composte ognuna da dodici pentagoni e venti esagoni, che contengono altrettante immagini fotografiche del quartiere di San Lorenzo.

Presso lo Spazio Cerere, si è svolto inoltre un workshop dedicato alle attività teatrali per bambini a cura di Violetta Rogai.

plexity. The works themselves – made using diverse techniques and materials – become fused with the process MARCELLO SMARRELLI

The relationship between the Pastificio Cerere Foundation and its surrounding territory – particularly the

San Lorenzo neighbourhood – reaffirmed itself in the decision to establish, by means of Pastificio_arch, an

ongoing enquiry into issues in architecture. The 2013 edition of the project, which was conceived by Marcello Smarelli, was curated by STRATO/Martino Fraschetti_Maria Clara Ghia_Vincenzo Tattolo, who proposed the theme FIND YOUR CORNER, 2.5 x 5.

FIND YOUR CORNER payed particular attention to the question of urban space and to the extent of its relation to lived experience, to the needs and desires of city dwellers. The architecture studios invited by STRATO engaged with small portions of urban space, using them to create events.

For the solo show at the Pastificio Cerere Foundation, the artist rereads the subject of ecology from a contemporary prospective, involving spectators in a “game” that binds them to an act of responsability toward them-

less times, while countless micro-changes on a local scale can, if united, give life to large-scale transformation.

Verdecuratoda...voi, which dorms part of the vaster project to Verdecuratoda begun in 2005, presents an opportunity to trigger a real environmental metamorphosis. In addition to propting the urban forestation of

green species, this phase of the project aims to bring butterflies back into the city, thus restoring an important marker of air quality to urban areas. This intervention is intended as the first in a series of similar events that will be organized across a number of different countries.

On the occasion of the opening, the Roman architecture studio laN+, invited by Emilia Giorgi, presents

The solo show finds an ideal continuation in poster created by Ettore Favini for Postcard from... – a project for the diffusion of contemporary art in urban context- titled Le farfalle volano sulla città pulita.

The Postcard from... project consists in inviting Italian and international artist to create an image for large-

scale poster (400x300cm), which is installed in the courtyard of the Pastificio Cerere Foundation, as well in various advertising spaces across Rome, made available by the A.P.A- Agenzia Pubblicitaria Affissioni.

The poster created by Ettore Favini features images of butterflies no longer present in Italian cities, with the intention of “repopulating” the spaces where the posters will appear for the duration of the show.

This exhibition presents a new occasion to continue experimenting the Pastificio Cerere’s potenti-

The desire to be involved in such a significant photography project is in line with the relationship that the Pastificio has always had with this medium – starting, in the 1970s, with

questions about the state of the art for photography and visual culture in general in the world of today that is dominated by the Internet.

New technologies have greatly influenced photographic practice, expanding its vocabulary and the scope of

its potential development and applications. They have led to many changes such that graphical elaboration by means of computer software has now become the principal means for the production for images. Exploring the digital image is an ongoing process at work in the sector of contemporary photography, which has led to

Boccioletti plays in a sophisticated way with the conventions of photography, exploring its limits and its contradictions. By making the mechanisms of digital instruments of elaboration such a clearly evident part of the image, he brings into question the reality of what we see, as well as the very condition of photography

set that hosted a series of stories, a portion of the city’s scenography. The show, curated by Arianna D’Amato, staged three chapters from Collodi’s timeless tale, “The Adventures of Pinocchio.” At the Spazio Cerere, there was also a workshop dedicated to theatre activities for children, curated by Violetta Rogai.
