It’s been a minute since the last issue of Party Time Magazine was published. A lot has happened in the music, DJ, nightclub, and festival scene.

Back in 1993, I started DJ ing under the name of DJ R2D2 (I’ve probably DJ some of your guys mother’s quinces lol, or at your dads backyard flyer parties). In 1995, through my DJ’ing experiences, I came up with the idea of making a magazine that featured DJ’s, parties, and nightclubs so that party goers would have something interesting to read (since I myself used to have no interest in reading at the time). In 95, I built up a wonderful team of Party Time promoters (pre internet times) to help promote the release of Party Time Magazine. We spent a year and a half going to schools, malls, parties, and nightclubs getting to know party people, and letting them know about this new and exciting party magazine that we were creating. Twenty Eight years ago this month, we released the first issue of Party Time, and celebrated with a party at the legendary Alexandria Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. From our first issue release, Party Time was an instant hit among the LA party scene. The magazine was available for sale at several Los Angeles area record stores, and was picked up by a magazine distributor to be sold at liquor stores, book stores, and 7Eleven stores which was very exciting for us. We also had a record distributor that put us in DJ record stores all over the US, we rapidly made a name for ourselves with everyone’s help and support.

Fast forward 28 years, Party Time Magazine is now in it’s 3rd generation of partying (still ran by yours truly), and decided to kick off things by releasing our first issue of 2024. We have loved being part of the party scene since the 90’s, and continue being in love with the scene till this day. We hope that you enjoy this issue, even though its kind of small, but we had the urge to start now, and start light. With that being said, we promise to make each one after this one, better and more exciting.

In this issue, we feature an interview with the remarkable DJ, Furr. Many know Furr as a DJ that can rock a crowd, and many also know Furr as the LMFAO Party Rock Crew’s Shuffle Bot / DJ. If you haven’t experienced a party or festival with Furr, your going to want to after reading our interview. We also caught up with Palm Springs locals, DJ LF, and Fambam.

As always, thank you for your support, it really means a lot to us that you take time to read our magazine. Please continue spreading the good word about us, and if you have missed the past issues, make sure you check them out on our website at:

Thanks, Party Time Magazine

@PartyTimeMag

This issue is dedicated to my angels in heaven, my mom Maria Eugenia “Sheny” Lara, my aunt Clara “Clary” Lara, and my grandpa Ricardo Lara. I miss and love these three people more than anything in the world. They were always very opened minded and supportive in anything that I did in my life, which included my life in the party scene.

SATRUDAY,

AUGUST 31ST

Interviewed by Jose Party Time

I recently had the chance to spend some time with and interview Furr, a DJ and dancer who has been doing what he best likes doing at nightclubs and music festivals all over the world.

Furr, tell us where you were born and raised?

I was born in El Centro, California, very close to the border. I was raised pretty much all over Southern California.

What or who got you interested in becoming a DJ?

I had just graduated from high school and wanted to throw a party for the occasion. My buddy Tony had a brother that was a DJ and we hired him to play. He killed it and I was immediately enamored with what a DJ can do to people. His name was DJ Romeo.

How old where you when you got interested in DJ’ing?

I was seventeen when I got into DJ’ing.

Barely legal I see lol.

What genres of music do you play?

I’m an open format DJ. I can do it all, but when I really get to know a crowd, the parties and music get better every time.

Nice, so you can rock any party, any where, love it.

Tell us about your first DJ gig?

My first gig was at a dive bar in Apple Valley CA. As most DJ’s starting off, we don’t know what we’re doing and only want to play the songs we like. It was easier when I went out and danced to the music I played and everyone joined.

Some of those small dive bars are really cool and fun places to DJ and party at.

Out of all your DJ gigs to date, there has to be one that is your most epic of all, please tell us about it?

One that always comes to mind is a DJ set I played in Lisbon, Portugal. It was a huge festival that had a massive lineup, so there was lots of pressure to do well. The nerves got to me a little and a quote my friend “Q” aka “Michael Quinones” said would always come to mind, “It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 or 2 million people, play your best.” I ended up doing an hour set, and a lot of the other DJ’s and groups that were performing at the festival, were coming over to party with us on stage. Found out later that I had just DJ’ed for 150,000 people. Definitely one of my most memorable gigs.

Wow, wish we would have been on that stage partying with you and all the other artists too.

When one is up in the DJ booth as much as you are, you have to have seen some weird crazy stuff going on. Can you tell us about some of the most odd things that you have seen from the booth?

Being in the DJ booth most of the time gives you a good vantage point to see everyone in a club, and people forget that. From some explicit actions between partners to people faking a shot of alcohol and throwing it over their shoulder, to even throwing up and acting like no one saw.

Just like we expected, sounds like you have seen your fair share of crazy stuff while in the DJ booth.

Have you DJ'd for any celebrities, if so, please tell us about it?

Did a good number of private parties that many celebrities came to. Rihanna, Chris Brown, LMFAO, Skrillex, Major Lazer, Avicii, Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, The Lakers with Kobe Bryant, The Patriots Football team with Gronk, Jamie Foxx, Kanye West, and many more. With DJ’ing these party you had to lock your phones up, which quite honestly made it a million times better. Everyone got to be away from their social media and just enjoying themselves with the music I played.

Seems like you have played your fair share of VIP parties and rubbed shoulders with some real A list celebrities, next time make sure to invite a brother. Do you produce, remix, or edit music?

I do produce and edit music, but I only play those songs live tho. I’m constantly changing them and updating tracks to be relevant. It’s also kind of my secret

weapons for my DJ sets.

Wow, so you make your own remixes/edits and don’t even share them with the world to download and play everywhere, I get it tho, you just want to play stuff no one else is.

Tell us about the DJ equipment you started with, what have you used since then, and what you are currently using?

I first learned to DJ on turntables with Serato. It was a fun challenge to learn both sides of the DJ world. Meaning combining the laptop with vinyl. I’m now for most of my DJ sets only on my USB. No need to carry anymore weight. Luckily with the technology that’s out there, it’s quicker to access and mix my music live.

It’s always a good thing to know how to use different setups.

How did you become a member of LMFAO's Party Rock Crew, Shuffle Bot, and what is your current involvement with the crew?

I did a video for YouTube. I called myself “California’s

Best Shuffler.” I did it to try and find the best shuffler and learn from him/her, but what ended up happening was that Redfoo from LMFAO, found the video. He liked my style and had invited me to join them for the release of there next single, Party Rock Anthem. The release was on New Year’s Eve, and we all just clicked. A few buddies of my from our home town came with me and we passed out in his house after the party and we technically never left. He brought us in to the crew and the rest is history.

Amazing, Redfoo, found you on YouTube and simply invited you over to hangout, talking about lucky.

Shuffle Bot was actually created after LMFAO did there first Coachella appearance. They appeared as robots and ripped off the costume to reveal themselves. The Shuffle Bot was born on the day of the Party Rock Anthem video shoot. They wanted me to wear the bot head as a symbol of being the best shuffler at the time. I didn’t think it would turn out to be as big as it had got.

Shuffle Bot is now even a Halloween costume at the Spirit Halloween (actually a sold out item online).

Speaking of Shuffle Bot, tell us who’s your favorite Robot/Droid?

My favorite robots are Daft Punk. They’ve inspired a lot of my sets with how they meticulously deconstructed their songs for new ways to play their DJ sets.

I was not expecting that answer, great tho for this occasion, you get two thumbs up for that one.

Besides music, would you like to tell us about any other hobbies, jobs, businesses, or investments you may have?

I’m a new Father so my Daughter has been my sole investment of my time, when I’m home that is.

Congratulations on your baby girl!

I also have a Collective of DJ’s I’m a part of that are very talented. We’re looking to create a better scene for music and dance, known as “Knoware” (pronounced nowhere).

Interesting, we’ll have to check out your DJs.

On Saturday, August 31st, we will be celebrating the grand opening of the all new Neon Oasis nightclub at The Sonoran in Palm Springs, California, which you will be going down in the clubs history as the first ever headlining DJ. Can you tell us how you are feeling about this new nightclub, and what can our party goers expect on that night?

I’m beyond ecstatic. New clubs give opportunity to the people in the area to enjoy something different. I know the people are going to be very surprised with the depth of my DJ definitely gonna be there early to get a good idea of what the people are dancing too and build from there. I like to build journeys with my DJ sets.

We are so excited to have you, and can wait to see everyone dancing, and jumping up and down to your beats.

Do you already know what fit you will be wearing to the big night?

There’s a couple options. It all depends on the weather that night.

Prepare yourself my brother, it going to be about 120 degrees that day out in Palm Springs.

What’s your favorite adult drink?

I’m not a picky drinker. As long as it tastes good I’m down for it. Beer, Whiskey , Vodka , Tequila, Rum, Sake, Soju, Wine, anything goes.

Is Furr married or single?

Married to my beautiful wife. She’ll be joining us the night of the grand opening. She’s my best critic.

There you have it ladies, Furr is officially not available, you can look but you can’t touch, nor take him home with you, lol.

Yup, looks like you left nothing on the shelf for us.

Do you have any Furr friends at home, if so, tell us about them?

I don’t as of now, but I want to get a husky when the time comes.

Favorite place to chill and relax at in the

By the pool with the family while enjoying a

s always nice to chillax.

Favorite place to eat at in the desert?

LGS steakhouse, that’s our go to spot to eat.

Where will you be staying at on the 31st?

ll be staying at a little boutique hotel called the Desert Hills, I hear it’s a very calm and relaxing place to stay at in Palm Springs.

Sounds nice, let’s circle back in about nine months for an update on how many kids

What advice would you give to our readers that are aspiring to follow in your foot-

Absorb all the knowledge you can to help push you thru the obstacles to come. If you don’t see obstacles it’s because you’ve already gotten the knowledge to surpass it.

Any shoutouts or special thanks to anyone, here's your chance.

I want to thank my wife for holding it down while I’m out DJ’ing, and also while the baby wakes up in the middle of the night.

What are your socials?

@Furr.x

On the behalf of everyone at Party Time, I just want to say it’s been fun interviewing you, and it has also been a pleasure meeting you and your wife.

Jose Party Time

the other hand, was always too busy with DJing, producing, working-out, and a whole lot more stuff that I can’t even mention lol. Well I was finally able to tie him down to a palm tree and force these questions out of him, so now with no further ado, I share with you an interview with the man that I am honored to call a friend, DJ LF.

Tell us where you were born and raised?

Born and raised in Palm Springs, California.

That explains a whole lot about you.

How old were you when you started DJing?

Interviewed by Jose Party Time

What got you interested in becoming a DJ anyway?

It was actually two people that got me into DJ'n, it was my two uncle's. But what mainly got me into DJ'n was because I used to breakdance and I remember thinking it would be bad ass to play the songs I wanted while I was breaking.

I bet you breakdancer name was “Electricbabaloo.”

Tell us about your first DJ gig?

I can’t remember, but I do remember my first professional

bar gig, I was twenty six and I picked up a residency on Monday Nights at Level 2 in the Coachella Valley.

Let me refresh your memory, your first gig was probably your lil prima’s birthday party at the old Chuck-ECheese off of Hwy 111, lol.

Out of all your DJ gigs to date, there has to be one that is your most epic of all, please tell us about it?

Damn, there’s not really one epic one for me, I think every gig I've done traveling were all epic for me, like playing in Nashville, San Diego, Rive, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Riverside, Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake, those were all amazing experiences for me.

Yeah that sounds cool, but have you ever played this little venue in DC called the White House? Guess not.

What’s the craziest thing that you have ever seen happen at a club?

I think the craziest thing I have seen was this one time a homeless lady came into the club and was on the dancefloor and then pushed everyone out of the way and took a dump on the floor, then when security tried escorting her out, she literally got into a boxer stance and started squaring up with the security, and started throwing blows, so the security didn't back down and started rocking her, and throwing haymakers at her face, and in the end she was all beat up and both were arrested. Wild.

Gross and WTF come to mind, but maybe she was just trying to get your attention on the dancefloor, wanted to have a breakdancing battle with you.

Have you DJ'd for anyone famous?

Man I've been in the presence of many celebrities, but one that kinda stood out the most was Marhsawn Lynch of the Seahawks and Raiders at the old Zeldas Nightclub. Why that one stands out is cause he was out here in Palm Springs for Rehab at the Betty Ford center and it was right before football season started, but he popped in and got so drunk, it was like he got out of jail and was like screw this, lets get lit lol.

So much for rehab, did you at least play Rehab by Amy Winehouse “They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, “No, no, no.”

Tell us about what DJ gear you started out with and what you are currently using?

I started with two American DJ belt-drive turntables and a Gemini mixer. I've used everything at this point in the fifteen plus years of DJ'n, but I am currently using about four different controllers / setups, mainly all Pioneer gear.

OG, two turntables and a mixer.

Do you produce, remix, or edit music?

I do produce, and I do have some remixes out there.

Thanks a lot for going into detail about your work, we all really appreciate that ghostwriter, lol.

Besides music, what hobbies or businesses do you have?

I am a Star Wars fanatic, but other than that, I’m mainly into my music, I like going to the gym, and spending time with my kids. I do also partake in throwing events here and there.

So I see you keep yourself very busy, but not as busy as them jet-setting world renounced DJs who bust out interviews faster with us.

This coming Labor Day Weekend, we will be having the grand-opening of Neon Oasis, the newest state-ofthe-art nightclub in the Clubhouse at the Sonoran in Palm Springs, California. You are going down in the clubs history as the main room’s first resident DJ. Can you tell us how you are feeling about this new nightclub, and what can the party goers expect on the grand-opening night?

I'm super excited for this new opportunity. It's gonna be a good breath of fresh air for the Palm Springs nightlife. All I can say to all the party goers is, just don’t expect the usual, its gonna be way different than what your used to. Be open to the vibes. And I am looking forward to sharing the DJ stage with Furr (LMFAO’s Party Rock Crew’s DJ and Shufflebot) our first headliner.

I’m am also super exited and looking forward to celebrating our opening, and partying all night with you, Fambam, Furr and all of our friends.

Do you already know what fit you will be wearing to the big night?

I don’t, all I know I need is music, headphones, and sunglasses.

Well we do have a no shoes, no pants, no party policy at the club so you better start looking for some pants my friend. Ladies, please note I did not say “no panties” in the dress code policy, so no worries, come as you are lol.

Favorite adult drink?

Bacardi 151, haha nah Tequila actually is my go to drink.

No wonder when I ask how it went last night you always say, I don’t know.

Do you have any pets?

I sure don’t

Look, I knew the answer to that question, WTF happened to the puppy???

Wait, maybe I don’t want to know what happened.

Where is your favorite place to just chill and relax in the desert?

I hide from everyone so I stay home a lot. But if I had to chose, it would be Lake Cahuilla or Joshua Tree, I like to be outdoors at times.

Lake sounds chill.

Where is your favorite place to eat at in the desert?

I love to eat so there is not one place that I can put as my favorite.

Look man, that was your chance to plug a little local

restaurant, you missed out on some free food and or drinks mi hermano.

What advice would you give to our readers that are aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

Do it cause you love music, that's all that should matter, like they say if you have a job you love to do, you'll never work a day in your life.

Make sure to checkout DJ LF whenever your in the desert.

What are your socials?

Insta, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music @ DJ LF

Big difference in the weather from where you were born to where your at now.

How old were you when you started DJing?

At thirty years of age, was when I found my fun, creative, and uplifting passion of mine.

Fun, creative, and uplifting it is, passion does definitely help you hon your skill.

DJ friends inspired me to become a DJ as well.

I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking, I'm glad your friends weren't circus clowns.

What genres of music do you play?

Started with House music, now I’m open format with any genre.

Whatever it takes to rock the party.

Tell us about your first DJ gig ever?

My first gig was at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Such an incredible experience for a first gig. Great Atmosphere and the vibes were amazing.

Nice, very sophisticated for a first gig, but nice. And for anyone that has never checked out the museum, make sure to check it out on Thursday nights during the Palm Springs Village Fest, which is when they have free admission and a guest DJ.

Out of all your DJ gigs to date, there has to be one that is your most epic of all, please tell us about it?

Playing at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California, it was one of my biggest shows I’ve played for, very nerve wrecking, but now I’m used to it, you can catch me at Avalon in Hollywood coming up on September first.

Yost is a cool venue to play at, I've watched several cool acts perform their such as Feenixpawl, Slander, and Nghtmre just to name a few.

When one is up in the DJ booth as much as a DJ is, you get to see some weird crazy stuff, can you tell us about some of the most crazy things that you have seen?

Oh man, what haven't I seen is a better question, haha, I’ve seen it all.

Interviewed

I bet you have.

I started with a FLX6 and after a couple months, I bought myself an RX3, and currently using that RX3.

Besides music, would you like to tell us about any other hobbies, jobs, businesses, or investments you may have.

I have been a nurse for ten plus years, and another hobby of mine is painting.

Interesting. Nursing is a very noble profession, must of been very hard during the COVID era, and painting is very relaxing, how cool.

On August 31st, we will be having the grand-opening of the all new Neon Oasis nightclub inside the Clubhouse at the Sonoran in Palm Springs which you will be going down in the clubs history as the first opening DJ. Can you tell us how are you feeling about this new nightclub, and what can the party goers expect on opening night?

I am honored to be part of this event. I am honored to be part of its history, and I’m going to bring all the vibes from start to finish, and we are all going to have a great unforgettable night at the new Neon Oasis.

Looking forward to your set on the 31st.

Do you already know what fit you will be wearing to the big night?

Maybe a light pastel color shirt if not black on black haha.

So either you'll be colorful, or dark and mysterious.

Favorite adult drink?

Old fashion.

Married or single?

Married.

All right then, so I'll make sure to send off all the ladies to someone else on the 31st.

Do you have any pets, if so, tell us about them?

Two dogs, Marley and Leo, and three parakeet birds. Where’s your spot to chill and relax in the desert?

Home, ain’t no place like home.

I thought you were going to say outside under a palm tree in the 125 degree weather, I guess I don't know you that well yet.

Where is your favorite place to eat at in the desert?

The Yard House, I’m a fan of good soft Rock music with a good drink and delicious food.

But do they sell Pizookie's by the yard there? I didn't think so.

What advice would you give to our readers that are aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

Do not give up! Do not doubt yourself! Keep going, keep pushing, everybody has their time, and your time will come.

Nice, some true words of wisdom there.
