Swanage After learning about Coastal management in class, Year 10 Geography pupils set out for Swanage in Dorset to collect important data for their controlled assessment research project. Over the course of the weekend pupils practiced several new research techniques including questionnaires, field sketches and environmental quality surveys.
After an action packed day in Swanage (with a little bit of time for ice creams and sandcastles!) we spent our second day in the beautiful United Nations World Heritage site of Lulworth Cove. With a population of less than 200 this is the ultimate example of rural tourism and pupils took in the view whist completing questionnaires from some of the tourists there. It would be fair to say that both pupils and teachers returned to school exhausted but the research completed on the visit allowed all of the pupils to successfully undertake their controlled assessment. All of them deserve a big well done for their hard work!
Summer School 2014 One hundred and seventy parents attended our recent Summer Schools Information Evening. We recently wrote to all parents of children starting with us in September and invited them to a meeting, which was held on 21st May. At the meeting parents were given information about this year’s Transition Summer School; which will run from Monday 28th July to Friday 8th August. This year’s theme will be “The Continents” and on the final day there will be a showcase and barbecue to which friends and families will be invited. Sixty children have so far registered for a place on the scheme.
Year Fives Taster Day For the last three years we have been running a programme of Year Five Taster Day; each

Rhythm Sticks NEWS It has been another remarkable year for Rhythm Sticks. Our music has been inaugurated into the National Sound Archives at the British Library, and we’ve taken part in many professional performances: launching our debut album at the London Jazz Festival in The Barbican, playing at Jazz On 3’s Jazz In The Round, The Vortex Outdoors Festival and on the 10th July ’14 performing at The Vortex Jazz Club opposite the brilliant George Crowley and his band of nationally renowned musicians. The Vortex gig will be filmed and professionally recorded and we hope to get this up for you all to view very soon! What has the Maths Department been up to this year? MATHS CHALLENGE
This year students from the top sets in Year 7 and 8 competed at the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge.
The challenge consists of a paper comprised of lateral thinking puzzles, drawing on the Maths they have
learned, while testing their problem solving skills. The students participated
enthusiastically and overall achieved 16 bronze,
7 silver and 1 gold certificate,
which was awarded to Haroon Aftab in 8P
(Oak House).
Since January this year we have been visited by approximately two hundred and forty pupils and their teachers from Welbourne, Tiverton, and Alexandra Park and Holy Trinity schools. Our last Taster Day for the 2013 – 2014 academic year was in June, where we looked forward to welcoming pupils from Earlsmead and Seven Sisters primary schools.
MASTERCLASS
Throughout the year KS3 students who have shown a keen interest in mathematics have been invited to take part in the Masterclass on Mondays after school. Here they have tackled a variety of
interesting problems and puzzles, ranging from
constructing the Eiffel Tower out of marshmallows
and cocktail sticks to solving mind-bending riddles. It has been a real pleasure to see students so engaged in these activities, developing
not only their mathematical skills but their ability to

English Performance Evening On Thursday 3 March talented students from across years 7, 8 and 9 took part in in an English performance evening. The students read a wide variety of their work including diary entries of children hiding from soldiers, poems exploring the feelings of a prisoner in Auschwitz and a person dreaming of a desert island, impassioned defences and rejections of slang language and even monologues set in a dystopian future. The performances were fantastic and there were lots of very proud parents and teachers in the audience. The students have worked incredibly hard in English this year and the evening was a great opportunity to celebrate their effort and to recognise the progress they have made across the year. Huge congratulations to all our wonderful performers! My time is nearly up; the weeks seem to have flown by. As we approach the end of term,
I’d like to say how much I have enjoyed my time at Park View. It really is a very special place.
The students are vibrant, warm and welcoming and staff across the school work really hard to
support them and ensure that they achieve all that they are capable of.

Thorpe Park
After all their hard work preparing for their exams the BTEC Travel and Tourism and Business studies students trekked out to Thorpe Park to see good customer service in action. The day started with an exploration of the park, looking at how the company maximise profits and make the customer experience as amazing as possible which of course meant sampling a few rides as well!
confidently aiming to be Outstanding by the time they arrive next (which is likely to be in the next academic year).
Building on the firm foundations laid by Alex Atherton and his team, I have pushed everyone to set their sights high and
no-one has let me down. We are working on some innovative
curriculum developments, which will make sure that students develop their Park View learner skills and become the confident
individuals that we want them to be. In embracing the PV learner’s skills we believe that our students will have all that they need to
become successful young adults and employees in the 21st century.
From September, all students will have their own PV learner skills passport to track their progress - so watch this space!
In the afternoon pupils got the chance to use their knowledge and quiz the Thorpe Park customer service experts in a private behind the scenes workshop. After an intensive session with their informative guide pupils got a sneak peek at some of Thorpe Park’s props before we headed back to school.
Andy Webster will be taking over as Headteacher from September
