Serving OR and S. WA

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

Note from Carol

Contributed by Holly Chaimov, Executive Director

It has been an exciting summer for PRO on many fronts. In late June, we hired our first Program Coordinator dedicated to serving the region. I know you will all join me with a big welcome for Carol Pfeil, who is working part time to help support existing resources with an eye to expansion to meet community needs. This development has been supported with a significant Major Donor gift and countless hours of volunteer time, organization, encouragement and participation from our PwP friends and most critically, the volunteers of the Central Oregon Parkinson’s Council (COPC). We owe an additional thank you to the COPC who have jumped right in to support Carol and have taken the lead to bring a new fundraiser to Bend with the inaugural Sole Support for Parkinson’s walk happening September 10th! With this engagement, we are confidently building a sustainable resource to benefit all. Additionally, old walls are coming down, new walls are going up, furniture is being ordered, and paint colors are being chosen for the new main office of PRO. If all goes as planned our relocation will occur over the middle of September. Realistically, we know there will be hiccups and delays, so ask for your patience as we settle in.

alternate plans for our current office building that do not include PRO. That said, our board, staff and community have embraced the change as an opportunity to evaluate community needs, and with a larger facility, expand opportunities. Our new office will have space for support groups, social programs, volunteer projects, education workshops, professional training and exercise classes! We will also be increasing our webinar and online connection options.

Melissa (melissa@parkinsonsresources. org) is hard at work lining up programs – we would especially love to hear from fitness professionals (yoga? Tai chi?) that would like to offer a class for PwP or carepartners. I can’t wait to welcome you for a visit in our new location. Program offerings at the new office will begin in October and we are planning an open house for all in November. Stay tuned! New Address: Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon 8880 SW Nimbus Ave, Ste B Beaverton, OR 97008 Telephone(s) will stay the same: 503.594.0901 or 800.426.6806

Relocating was a necessity as there are SEPT/OCT 2017

support, exercise, outreach and educational programs along-side volunteers in Central Oregon for the benefit of those affected by Parkinson’s disease. I have lived in Bend for 11 years, been married for 31 years, and have 4 children ages 30, 28, 25, and 17. We spent the first 20 years of our family life in the San Diego area. I have an undergraduate degree in Health Education from San Diego State University and a Masters degree in Teaching from Oregon State University, Bend. Having an opportunity to use both degrees, my work experience, and interests in my job is an awesome opportunity! When I’m not working, I enjoy tending my little garden of squash, tomatoes, basil and flowers, my daily walk in the park, paddle boarding in the Deschutes and area lakes, and keeping my coffee consumption fresh and varied. You’ll rarely see me without a mug in my hand. Please be sure to introduce yourself and share your experience with Parkinson’s. I’ll look for you at the Sole Support walk in Bend. PAGE 1
