2 | 2019 ANNUAL REPORT

Mission Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation strives to provide, with compassion and dedication, superior quality health care and rehabilitation for adults. Through continual improvement of Parker’s programs and services, we will be a leader in health care delivery and education.

Message Parker is meeting the challenge of a rapidly increasing adult population with growth and innovation, while maintaining the warmth and compassion that have always distinguished Parker’s services and staff. Since its inception in 1907 as a shelter for 25 indigent men and women, Parker Jewish Institute has evolved into a nationally recognized 527-bed, non-profit center for the health care and rehabilitation of adults, and a comprehensive network of community health care programs for adults. The Institute is a leading academic campus for the training of health care professionals, and an important research center for studies related to aging. Parker is a partner in AgeWell New York, a New York State authorized managed long term care plan and a Medicare advantage plan, dedicated to delivering the level and scope of care needed to feel well and live well at home. We are proud to say that excellence is the standard at Parker.

2019 Highlights They

provide older adults socialization, supervision, personal care and nutrition, as well as dignity and purpose in a nurturing environment. These services help older adults remain independent and living in their own homes as long as possible, while providing a respite for caregivers.

In March, Parker hosted an Open House at Parker On Madison, Hempstead’s newest Social Adult Day Care Center. Social workers, health care professionals and public officials toured the center and learned how it benefits frail older adults, especially those with early memory loss.

Part

of Parker’s Community Health Services, Parker on Madison includes a Life Enrichment Coordinator and recreation specialists.

2019 Highlights In May, Parker residents enjoyed a lovely visit from HorseAbility! Equine therapy can help seniors with Dementia or Alzheimer’s increase coordination and improve interpersonal relationships because of the special bond formed with the horses. The two miniature horses, Aiden and Pearl, made rounds spreading joy to all across Parker’s patio!

In April, National Healthcare Volunteer Week was celebrated.

President Richard Nixon established National Healthcare Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974, as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers. Since then, the original emphasis on celebration has widened; the week has become a nationwide effort to urge people to get out and volunteer in their communities. In recognition of healthcare volunteers, we applaud, appreciate and thank all of our volunteers at Parker!

Age and disability were no obstacle for the patients and residents who took part in Parker’s games. The afternoon of activities concluded with a barbecue for all patients and residents.

On June 11th, P arker

hosted its Annual Vendor Event as a way of showing our appreciation. We are proud of our special relationships with our vendors, and appreciate all they do for Parker and the people we care for.
