Dorm life changes as COVID-19 restrictions lessen Dayana Jules Reporter

Skyler Jensen Editor-in-Chief On Friday, Oct. 1, Park University hosted the grand opening of the $10.4 million Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center. During the dedication ceremony, there were several speakers who expressed their excitement for the new
building and gratitude to those who helped Park achieve this goal. Speakers included Interim President Shane Smeed; Nathan Marticke, chief advancement officer; and Kirby Brown, dean of the School of Business. Afterward, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony to symbolize the opening. Many spectators also came for the grand opening. These spectators included
donors, trustee members, alumni, faculty, current students and other members of the Park community. The building officially opened on Aug. 16 when the Fall 2021 semester began. The building is used for classes by students and faculty. There are also several collaboration areas that allow students to work together on projects or study together outside of class.
The dorms at Park University are back to operating at full capacity. During the last school year, there was only one resident per room, as a rule. This year, it is back to two residents per room in most cases. While the guidelines may seem more relaxed, there are still protocols and rules students and residents must follow. In some ways, things feel more normal but there are still questions and concerns about the current situation as well as future changes that may come. One precaution for fall residents was that before moving on campus all students, whether fully vaccinated or not, were required to take a COVID-19 test free of charge at the McCoy Meetin’ House.
