Team Lieser-Booren Designs takes second place in the 2018 Paper Fashion Show with their design "Sub Rosa" inspired by the Elizabethan era and featuring paper from Neenah's StarDream line.

We asked Michelle Lieser-Booren, the team lead, about her experience with designing for the show.

What was the most challenging part of creating your fashion?

"The most challenging part of creating the fashions is finding ways to manipulate the paper so we can achieve our vision without compromise. When I start planning a design, I focus only on the concept and aesthetics. I don’t want to limit the design based on the medium."

Did you have any snafu's with your fashion?

"Yes! The complete look for “Sub Rosa” hadn’t all been put on the model until 2 am the day of the show, and that is when we realized that the different pieces couldn’t go on the way we planned…which is why this design required 4 people to help dress our model."

How many hours did your team spend on your fashion?

"Surprisingly, in all our years of participating, we have never actually tracked the hours. Typically, we spend at least 1 or 2 days a week working about 8-10 hours from the time we get our paper until the show. On top of that, each member of the team takes certain tasks home for the week between team workdays and works in the evenings or whenever they have time. I would guess that each team member spends about 200-400 hours on the designs, depending on complexity and availability."
