QUILLING QUEEN Philippa Reid, a paper artist from Hampshire, has become the first ever person to succeed in the Quilling Guild’s Higher Level Accreditation Scheme. A course that takes two years to complete, it’s one of the hardest crafting certificates to gain. Inspired? To attend a quilling workshop, contact Philippa at learntoquill. weebly.com or browse her blog at quilliance. wordpress. com. Massive congratulations, Philippa!

Paper from Pardeshi This month, we’re fascinated by this stylish paper vase which allows you to mould, fold and bend the triangular structure into your own unique design. Each net is created by the Tiny Miracles Foundation, a project supporting women in Pardeshi in Mumbai (one of the poorest neighborhoods in India), so it’s a brilliant investment for both your home and their futures. DIVERSE DESIGNS It’s a feat many papercrafters dream of, but crafter Georgina Fihosy has managed to successfuly found her own card line, Special Touch Designs. Reflecting her African heritage, Georgina’s first range of cards, the Live in Colour Collection, contains 30 contemporary designs which have all been handfinished in her home studio in Kent. We think it celebrates the ethnic diversity in today’s British craft industry brilliantly. Find out more at specialtouchdesigns.com

Recycle cardboard the crafty way with stylish new storage from Sarah Jackman Read

W

ith the last bank holiday weekend of the year coming up next month (sob!), use your free time wisely and give unruly craft bits and bobs their own papercrafted home. Not only is Sarah Jackman Read’s project a talking point in itself, but it’s great for using up cardboard that would have otherwise gone to waste. We can’t get enough of the patchwork effect Sarah has created – it’s the shabbiest, chicest way to upstyle your craft room, while also saving the environment.

You Will Need  Craft essentials (see p92)  First Edition Deco Mache papers: Green Polka, Pink Foliage, White Wood, Garden Bloom  First Edition Deco Mache Gloss: Adhesive, Varnish  Papermania Bellissima Charm Pack  Cardboard box: 17cm x 23cm  Three cereal boxes: 625g  Acrylic paint: white 1 Undo the base flap on an empty cereal box and fold it flat. Cut the box in half widthways using a steel ruler and craft knife. Measure 8cm from the base fold and score a line along. Cut down the corners to this score line and fold the four flaps to the inside. Repeat

on the other half of the box to create two 8cm-deep drawers. 2 Secure the flaps with double-sided tape and strengthen the bottom of each drawer with glue. Cut a piece of cardboard to line the base and stick down. Repeat steps 1 and 2 twice for a total of six drawers, paint them white and leave to dry. 3 Use a ready-made cardboard box or build the housing with panels of cardboard. To do this, fix the sides together with strong tape and add a cardboard back, securing all joins with a glue gun. 4 Rip up pieces of Green Polka decoupage paper. Apply adhesive to each outside panel of the housing and

MAKE IT add the paper, building up three layers. Finish with a coat of adhesive. 5 Use three contrasting papers to repeat the process on the outsides of the drawers and leave to dry. Line the insides of each with coloured card. 6 Glue ribbon to the back of six matching diamantes from the charm pack. Place the drawers into the housing and glue the handles to the centre of each drawer.

“Apply glue sparingly to the inside of the housing and the outside of the drawers to avoid them sticking!”
