Didier Agueh Executive Host and Artistic Director

Alberto Sanna Bar Manager

This March, Park Plaza Westminster Bridge celebrates its third birthday and three years since I started as Artistic Director for the Hotel. They have been three exciting and challenging years in which I have had the pleasure to collaborate with some exceptionally talented homegrown and international artists and singers.

Welcome back to PRIMO Bar for 2013! I am excited to ring in another great year for the bar and the team and I are already busy working on some hot new cocktails for you to enjoy.

From the unforgettable salsa nights with Roberto Pla and his Latin Ensemble to the powerful soul music of Omar or the sophisticated jazz of Cleveland Watkiss, Primo Bar’s programme has always provided a high quality, wide musical spectrum for music lovers. 2013 looks even more promising with some great new acts and concepts to keep our venue so unique and so special. Our monthly Open Mic Night with the well known Patrick Alan and Bingo Cabaret with the very creative Medium Rare team are just a few new surprises for you! We have also launched “Overtime”, a classy alternative to the standard happy hour, running from 5-8pm every weekday with music from Nigel & Chris (Jazz FM) and Phoebe (Hed Kandi) alongside tempting cocktail offers and promotions. We remain the only place in London with free live music every night, so check out our programme and I look forward to meeting you soon! Happy New Year!

2012 was a fantastic year for London – we toasted the Olympians with a sporty ladies night and Olympo-tastic drinks and more than a few bottles of Champagne were popped for the Queen’s Jubilee. This summer, we look forward to a Royal birth, but until then we’ve got plenty of entertainment to keep you warm over winter. I’ve chosen the Apricot Martini as our cocktail of the month because it’s soft, sweet and seasonal – ideal for combating post-Christmas blues! New Year’s Eve was also a fantastic night for us which saw us triple our capacity by holding two pop up spaces which included a Champagne bar in Parliament View and the ‘Best of British’ party down in the Westminster Ballroom, which kept all of our guests partying into the small hours and seeing in the New Year in style. We hope to see you all soon! Love PRIMO Bar? Leave us your feedback on Time Out or Tripadvisor!

Valentine’s Day with La Voix

Michael Bublé

Re-ABBA

Expect something a little different for Valentine’s Day this year as we stage a Cabaret night with acclaimed drag act La Voix - a sharp-tongued comedienne and cross-dressing cabaret singer who has shared the stage with Mickey Rooney, Simon Cowell, Toyah Wilcox and Alan Carr. La Voix will perform a mix of hits by Lisa Minelli, Madonna and Barbra Streisand as well as charm the audience with her quick-fire wit, and a flurry of feathers, frills and glitz. A selection of specially created cocktails will be on offer.

Peet Rothwell has fast become one of the most popular Michael Bublé Tributes today. His vocal style and charisma supersedes what you would expect from a top tribute to the most celebrated crooner of our time.

Re-ABBA is the perfect combination of talent and respect for the great songs of ABBA and how they should sound, coupled with two stunning girls who will always leave the audience with memories of a great show. Class, Talent and Spectacle….. That is Re-ABBA

Interview with nigel williams Alongside Jazz FM colleague Chris Phillips, Nigel Williams performs every week at Primo for our new after work concept ‘Overtime’.

HOW lONG HAvE yOu BEEN WOrkING AS PrESENTEr FOr JAzz FM? I re-joined

the DJ line-up just over three years ago. I had presented on the station during the Acid Jazz period of the 90s, before being headhunted by a new radio station called Heart which went on to be london’s No1. Since then I worked all the big names in radio but I never stopped listening to jazz. I was very excited to return to present the ‘Breakfast Show’ for two years playing my personal favourites.... you can’t call that work! Now I am on in the afternoon, so I can even sleep normal hours.

yOu HAvE INTErvIEWED MANy PEOPlE DurING yOur rADIO SHOWS, WHICH ONE IMPrESSED yOu THE MOST?

PP_Primo_id5.5_Feb-Mar.indd 19

The musicians I interview are all talented because you don’t get to play jazz if you can’t play! Most notable are the ones who are usually a bit weird. Their eccentricities lead to creations that we all interpret in our own way and that makes the music have so much more depth. Melody Gardot, Erika Badu spring to mind here – they are artists in every sense of the word. I have also been privileged to meet legendary artists such as Dionne Warwick, Al Jarreau and Joe Sample (Crusaders), musicians that I grew up listening to.

DID yOu EvEr WANT TO BE A PrOFESSIONAl MuSICIAN? Oh god yes! Music WAS my first love. I play lots of instruments, lead the school orchestra, formed a band and....... nothing! I could always write great stuff when I was asleep, but it all fizzled away when I woke up! HOW WOulD yOu DEFINE yOur MuSICAl STylE? I like the little bits of detail that make a recording. I love the technical side of music production as well as a great melody, so I’m always looking for the whole package. I do feel that music feeds directly to the brain and can influence or even change your mood, so at Overtime

I am looking to de-stress the audience and lift their spirits after a hard day’s work. WHAT AMBIANCE WOulD yOu lIkE TO CrEATE DurING THE ‘OvErTIME’ SESSIONS? Cool and Jazz are synonymous, so the ambiance mainly comes from that genre, but there is quite a lot of latin music in the mix too. They have the rhythms from Africa and the sunshine in the music that can provide that positive vibe I’m looking to create at Overtime.

Soulstar are a fresh acoustic duo giving an original twist on contemporary and classic tunes. Katy and Paul are successful musicians in their own right, and have been in high demand as a duo for several years. As a vocal and guitar collaboration, recent years have seen Soulstar travel to venues of all sizes across the globe.

Fil skillfully blends Marvin Gaye’s energy with Luther Vandross’ passion which can be heard on all of his many recordings. From jazz to house, and everything in between, Fil Straughan knows music, and it shines through in his accomplished and unique vocal skill. Fil also enjoys collaborating with others whether he has co-written the song or is simply adding his rich voice to the mix.
