... since 1998.
What we live is what shapes and transforms us.
Throughout the 25 years of Horizontes project, all our events, successful or not, have always been designed with one purpose: to offer incredible and unique experiences in places of high human, historical and/or natural value. In that time and space we want you to experience new aromas, new flavours, to meet other people and cities. We want you to immerse yourself in history, customs and local traditions which are important parts of this project of Sport Tourism or " Marathurism ".
In this ¼ of a century, we have already climbed the highest point of Portugal, Serra da Estrela, we have crossed Portugal from north to south, from east to west or just Beira Baixa. We've ventured through the historic town of Sintra, Ericeira and since 2015 we've headed to Brazil to cross the longest beach in the world, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
There are more than 100 events organised and many friends all over the world.

MARATHURISM
Sporting experiences in places of high Historical, Natural and/or Human value.
They are trips to any part of the world, that offer the participant the opportunity to get to know:
A
discovery
transformation.
“Marathurism" is a new concept of travel and a new way of being.
time of search,
and personal
New places and people. Different cultures, flavours and aromas.
The world, as it is known today, is very Portuguese. Curiosity and courage led us to encounter new worlds.
PT281+ has in the Portuguese Discoveries much of its inspiration as a test design. Like Pedro Álvares Cabral, we also set off from Belmonte, his home town, in search of adventure and overcoming. The principles of Portugal 281+ Ultramarathon Portugal project are based on courage, the spirit of conquest, discovery and innovation, and the ability to overcome.

MORE BEYOND
Crossing a country is quite a challenge! Doing it, from north to south, in 15 days and running more than 1001km is something more. It becomes an experience of personal transformation.
Our goal is to facilitate this "path" in all its perspectives. Whether they are inner knowledge, introspection, evasion, pilgrimage or overcoming. It will certainly be a path of discovery, learning and transformation.
The paths are many, the people authentic, the places genuine and with long centuries of history. This will be a time of travelling and crossing, through this wonderful country. Portugal is a small country, but with a huge diversity of customs, traditions, accents and landscapes. It’s a nation with almost 1000 years of history and one of the most stable borders in the world. The bridges with the only country it shares a border with, Spain, were stabilised 723 years ago, in 1297, at the time of the treaty of Alcanizes. A treaty signed by the King of Portugal, King Dinis, and the King of Castile, Fernando IV.
This is the path, the path of the heroes of the sea, of a noble people and a brave nation that we want to offer you.

Oh Meu Deus! Oh my God, Oh Mon Dieu, Oh Dio Mio, Oh Mein Gott, ああ、私の神。
Ultra-distances have created a new concept of travel, evasion, mental well-being that we call "Marathurism". Since always, our principle in organizing races, is to enhance these experiences to the participants of our events. It’s our main goal to build events and courses that allow exceptional and transformative experiences. Serra da Estrela and Seia, the city hosting the event, are part of one of Portugal's richest natural heritages. The Serra da Estrela Natural Park is now considered a UNESCO heritage site through its Geopark Estrela.
OH MEU DEUS has 5 distances so that each person, with their own style, abilities and goals, can set their own challenge.
OMD Trail® Serra da Estrela has two distances, 20km and 50km. The OMD Ultra Trail® Serra da Estrela is the pioneering long distance trail running race in mainland Portugal, being the first with 100km and 100 miles (160km). Since 2018, it has another iconic distance called OMD200 (160+40), with the athlete who covers this distance within 44 hours, being acclaimed as "Viriato".

OH MEU DEUS
It’s not just another ultra marathon. It’s a long way, between the highest point in continental Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean, in this case Nazaré. A journey of astonishment, of encounter, of contact with traditions, but also of faith without the need to be a believer. It will be a very special time. Crossing a country, in this case Portugal, from east to west is guaranteed to be a huge journey and an extraordinary experience.
Traditionally, the winter season is a time of recollection, rest and preparation for a new year. Nature at these time of the year is relentless, but technological innovation has allowed us to develop materials that offer protection for extreme situations and thus allow other possibilities for adventure. It’s this confidence that has allowed us to move forward into this challenge of the Land of Giants. Welcome where you can be a giant.
The challenge of crossing Portugal from east to west, from the highest point of the country to the beach with the biggest waves in the world is, necessarily, for giants. But it’s more. It's a bit more than effort and glory. It's courage, management and a lot of resilience along the paths that take them from the Serra da Estrela to the isolated and beautiful Schist Villages in Lousã. It's paths of faith around Fátima that will take you to the magnificent and gigantic waves of Nazaré.
It’s the first month of winter and, traditionally, a time of very low temperatures and rain. Starting at the highest point in Portugal, means to able to begin the challenge with negative temperatures and, who knows, snow. It’s this set of factors, associated with the distance and unevenness, that will make you a giant.

The concept is simple, as are the organisational and operational aspects. Everything is inseparable from the regulation.
At 10am, in continental Portugal, on the last weekend of April, we will give the first start to all participants for a fixed circuit of 6.706 meters and approximately 135D+. This circuit implies that, by the 24th hour of racing, the active participants will have completed 160.9km, the mythical 100 miles.
Then, and every hour, 11am, 12pm, 1pm and so on, a new start will be given to all participants who have completed the distance within the regulated 60 minutes. This will be repeated each time and until there are two participants able to complete that distance within the hour.
The national record stands at 36 laps and the world record at 101.
The winner will be the last one to complete the lap and all others considered DNF.

IT’S EASY UNTIL I’TS NOT
Running fast, safely and in a fun way is always our commitment. If you like to run at high pace, off road, here you have tracks for that. You just need to manage your effort, so that you don't pay dearly at the end of the race.
If your motivation is to enjoy the environment, the landscape and to take advantage of the moment as a form of leisure or evasion, without rushing, this route allows you to do that. The places are beautiful, the villages authentic and the people genuine. As the maximum time to finish the race is extended, it will not be the clock that will command your challenge.
The course is built around the three premises indicated: fast, safe and fun. You will not have water crossings that could impede your passage or technical sections that require ropes. You will have endless climbs, stunning descents and narrow trails that will take you to the most beautiful parts of the Proença-a-Nova municipality.

The Extremo Sul Ultramarathon - The longest beach in the world is the gateway to a new world and another level in ultramarathons.
It’s one of the most isolated places in Brazil, a huge desert, inhospitable and on a huge sandy plain where it is said that - "(1) everything is a lot, everything is intense and sometimes at the same time. Where a storm, when there is a storm, is never small; when the wind calms down, it is an absolute calm".
It’s a space of contrasts and rapid transformations. A morning that can rise with a radiant and warm sun and suddenly we’re under a huge storm with strong winds and heavy rain. It’s a fascinating region, with many traditions and a huge mark on what are the current borders of Brazil.
The Extremo Sul of Brazil, Chui, Santa Vitória do Palmar and Rio Grande, go beyond the famous mate and barbecue. It’s pure nature, traditions, aromas, history and people.
There are 226km of immense sandy beaches, on a tremendous sandy plain, in an inhospitable place with an unstable climate and enormous contrasts. 54 hours maximum, to cover the route between sand and sea, in a corridor that, at times, may seem endless and psychologically exhausting.
"(1)On this sandy beach, full of unspeakable landscapes, where we find the abysses that are horizontal, this immense beach, takes us to a state of mind of deep peace"
