PALMETTO BLUFF CLUB
July & August 2025 | Volume 8, Issue 4
Letter from the Director of Operations

Palmetto Bluff Members,
The most anticipated celebration of the year at The Bluff is here — Fourth of July week. We have a variety of events planned for you and your family. There will be plenty of opportunities to be active, from engaging in some friendly competition at our Red, White, and Blue pickleball mixer, to running through Crossroads for our annual Firecracker 5k — runners are promised a very scenic route this year. Don’t miss the parade in Wilson Village the morning of the fourth. That night, wear your Western best at Stars & Stripes: Wild, Wild PB, where Longfield Stables will transform into a saloon filled with live music, bourbon, axe throwing, and more Old Western fun. We’ve welcomed over 1,000 attendees to Stars & Stripes in the past, and we expect that this year will be no exception.
Keep the festivities going after July Fourth week as the team at Wilson Lawn and Racquet brings classic tennis tradition to Palmetto Bluff with their annual Wimbledon Day Celebration. Whether you want to compete, or you’re looking for an opportunity to mingle with fellow Members while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and beverages, this event promises a good time on the lawn.
In this issue’s feature article, learn about one of our most wellreceived event series — the Around the Table dinners. Our Special Events and Culinary teams come together to create unique dinners that transform Members to different countries, seasons, and decades.
Sincerely,
Kevin Rhatigan

EVENT SERIES SPOTLIGHT:
Around the Table
A celebration of taste, creativity, and connection—where every theme inspires a one-of-a-kind culinary journey.
At the heart of our community lies the table — a place where stories are shared and connections are made. Creativity takes center stage in our Around the Table dinner series.
Around the Table is more than just a meal — it’s a curated journey by our Culinary and Special Events teams. Each event in the series revolves around a distinct theme, carefully envisioned by our events team to transport guests into a new world of sights, flavors, and sensations. From seasonal inspirations to cultural tributes, the themes serve as the creative foundation upon which every element is built. Once the theme is set, our culinary team provides delicious and imaginative presentations crafted with intention and seasonal ingredients. Every Around the Table experience is intimate and carefully curated, from the table settings to the music.
Most recently, we brought the vibrant spirit of Greece to the table (photographed on page 28)—sun-soaked and rich in flavor. From hand-rolled dolmades to herb-marinated lamb, every course paid tribute to the depth of
Greek cuisine. The setting was equally transportive, as we adorned the Moreland lap pool with blue-and-white accents, olive branches, and Mediterranean charm.
Along with exploring cuisines from around the world, Around the Table also ventures into different decades, celebrating the flavors and cultural touchpoints of iconic eras. At another recent dinner, Members were treated to a nostalgic journey with our Betty Crocker theme, a playful and heartfelt nod to mid-century Americana. The evening channeled the golden age of home cooking, complete with updated twists on old classics. The comfort foods were served on the serene porch at Headwaters Lakehouse.
Our Culinary and Special Events teams aren’t afraid to embrace a little mischief and mystery. Some of our especially memorable dinners are the Haunted Around the Tables to celebrate Halloween. This past year, Members gathered in the May River Chapel for a hauntingly creative Halloween-themed evening.
The culinary team served a moody, imaginative menu inspired by the season with some unexpected twists. As guests dined by candlelight under the chapel’s vaulted ceilings, they were spooked (and entertained) by costumed staff. The result was an evening that was equal parts delicious and delightfully chilling.
“Our Around the Table dinners are truly my favorite events to create. Because they’re designed for a smaller, more intimate group of members, I’m able to focus on the thoughtful touches that transform an ordinary meal into a memorable experience.
One of the things I enjoy most is hearing guests talk about the design elements—whether it’s suspending umbrellas from the ceiling at Canoe Club for our Asian Cuisine night, or setting a nostalgic table with vintage glassware and delicate doilies for our Betty Crocker-themed evening.
These dinners embrace a ‘sky’s the limit’ spirit, giving our team the freedom to be imaginative while highlighting the beauty of gathering with intention. Each one is a reminder of the joy that comes from sharing a meal in a setting designed to make people feel welcome, inspired, and connected.” -Sadie Walshaw, Special Events Manager
As this series continues to evolve, so too does our ambition to surprise and inspire. No two events are alike. But beyond the creativity and cuisine, Around the Table is about community—about coming together to share not just a meal, but an experience.
So whether you’re a devoted foodie or simply someone who enjoys a great night out with good company, we invite you to join us.

For the months of July - September, as we focus on being Stewards of the Land, we are pleased to host local artist William James, who celebrates the spirit of the Lowcountry through his work. Coastal flora, seas, and skies provide the foundation for much of William’s work. From wildlife to flowers, fish to architecture, his subject matter is distilled from a deep love of the Southeastern coast. William’s style is deeply influenced by his experience as an art educator.
