Here I have used the metaphor ‘Cocooned cage’ for the idea of comfort turning into helplessness portraying the example of cocooned stuck butterfly and addicts.
It is seen that when a metamorphosis phase begins the caterpillar changes it physical form but in some cases the butterfly’s wings get stuck in the chrysalis and it grows with crumpled wings. If a butterfly gets stuck in the chrysalis it is more likely to be a prey of other insects or if it managed to fall from the chrysalis and is too weak, it gets infected by parasite and eventually dies. Here butterfly’s chrysalis becomes reason of its death even though its actual purpose was to nourish a life inside it and keep it safe till the metamorphosis process ends.
Addiction involves craving for something intensely, loss of control over its use and continuing involvement with it despite adverse consequences. Addiction changes the brain, first by subverting the way it registers pleasure and then by corrupting the other normal drives such as learning and motivation.
As cocoon was meant to keep the life inside it safe, initially a substance or a feeling was supposed to comfort people but they get obsessive with the substance and feeling that the same thing that was meant to comfort them turns in to a cage from what they cannot break out.
The goal being, to make impact and put forward a strong message to seek help whenever they feel stuck by the situation. The collection comprises of streetwear garments which would be wearable pieces of art, a strong essence of knowing things that is harmful to them and getting over things that impact negatively.
