Now is the time for you to start thinking about the subjects you would like to study at Pakūranga College in 2026. This guide shows the pathway of subjects in each faculty. You can find a detailed description of each subject on SchoolBridge.
HOW TO SELECT YOUR SUBJECTS:
1. Go to SchoolBridge and click on the Course Selection icon under the Subject Selection heading on the homepage.
2. For a detailed description of each subject’s curriculum, click on the Learning Areas icon next to the Course Selection tile and discover what you will learn in the year ahead.
WHEN CHOOSING YOUR SUBJECTS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER:
• Subjects that you enjoy.
• Subjects in which you have prior learning.
• Subjects that you are good at.
• Subjects that you need for your career plans.
AS WELL AS READING THE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS, DO SOME RESEARCH: Speak to your parents/caregivers, Careers Advisors, teachers, older students, and people employed in the industry you would like to work in. This will help you to make well-informed decisions about your option choices.
YOU CAN ALSO EXPLORE CAREERS YOU ARE CONSIDERING IN DETAIL: Use the Career Job Search tile in the Careers Links section of SchoolBridge. Click on the Advanced Search button under the search bar and move the slide bar to include career fields in your search, then type in your area of interest, e.g. engineering, design, construction, etc.
EXPLORE CAREERWISE: Another useful tool is our new Careerwise website (https://pakuranga.careerwise.school), which has information about universities, trades and apprenticeships, and scholarships. Explore what study or work in your preferred field will be like after leaving school, and discover the pathways that will get you there. This will help you select subjects that will be beneficial to you later.
Students can meet with a Careers Advisor to review their choices. Our current Year 11 students will be interviewed after subject selection is complete. There will be an opportunity to make changes during this interview.
All other year levels can book an appointment in the week leading up to their subject selection deadline. Bookings can be made through SchoolBridge. Select the Career Interviews icon under the Careers Links section on the homepage.
UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE:
Level 3 students must choose a minimum of four UE (University Entrance) subjects if they intend to study at university.
DEADLINES:
Students must submit their subject choices by the following dates:
Current Year 12: TERM 3, WEEK 3 FRIDAY 1 AUGUST
Current Year 11: TERM 3, WEEK 3 FRIDAY 1 AUGUST
Current Year 10: TERM 3, WEEK 7 FRIDAY 29 AUGUST
Current Year 9: TERM 4, WEEK 3 FRIDAY 24 OCTOBER
PARENTS/CAREGIVERS:
Parents and caregivers can access some of the information above from their SchoolBridge homepage. Log in and navigate down the homepage to the Subjects and Careers section to access learning area information, course overviews, Careerwise, and useful information about the subject selection process for 2026.
