This gold jacket has peplum flared sleeves & classic borders on the hem with resham & gota work. The printed lehnga underneath with hints of Salma & gota work adds a pop of colour to the outfit.

This outfit is an amalgamation of eight different printed panels and an intricately worked border at the hem with colourful resham, gota and salma work. The flared kameez has two slits in the front, flaunting the ivory print lehnga with crystally details.

Our favourite silhouette has to be a pishwas when it comes to bridals. Here, playing with shades of pink, the pishwas comes with a printed lehnga and a contrast dupatta.

Where tradition meets modernity. Élan's bridal collection with rich embellishments and hues of pastels is the couture that exceeds charm and charisma!

Élan's fabulous show stopper had a very defined silhouette with voluminous godets falling with each panel. The bridal is a work of craftsmanship comprising of thoughtfully picked resham colours and gleaming silver work. The printed sharara underneath and wide scallop dupatta with shaded botis is a delight to the eyes.

Redefing a classic kameez in Elan's ethereal pastel colour tones, the kameez is colour blocked with flirty fringes on the sleeves.

It's paired with a classic crushed tissue sharara and a delicately worked dupatta in silvery tones.

Experimenting with a fun shift dress silhoutte, this outfit has been worked with an innovative play of regular adda materials.

The dupatta of this outfit has exaggerated scallop borders and fringe-like botis in the middle.

Like a symphony of beautiful colours, this jacket has chattapatti worked on its bodice and partly on the sleeves worked to perfection.

The dupatta has delicate scallops and a 3D spray in the middle using mixed adda material. The printed lehnga is a modern take on a classic a-line lehnga with a frilly print pattern added at the hem.

This antique blue flared pant saree is worked in hues of golds and silvers to keep the palette very classic. The pants are heavily embellished with bohemian floral patterns blending in a Moroccan jaal.

This intricately worked pishwas in antique golds and tones of pink and green resham is a personal favourite. Paired with a very traditional dupatta, the lehnga has heavily worked boties throughout.

This body hugging shift dress paired with a mermaid lehnga is a wedding staple. tha ganga jamni work on this bridal makes it modern yet classic.

The Kiran edgings also adds an old world charm to it.

khadijah shah WE CHAT WITH THE UNDISPUTED HAUTE COUTURE QUEEN, KHADIJAH SHAH. SHE SPEAKS ABOUT HER VISION, DESIGN PHILOSOPHY, DRIVE FOR SUCCESS & HER LATEST BRIDAL SHOWCASE CALLED ‘CHAMPS DE PATCHOULI’ •How would you define yourself? Do you consider yourself as a Designer or entrepreneur?

I consider myself a bit of both; a designer who is able to translate their work and establish it as a brand is an entrepreneur. However as an entrepreneur I am lucky to have the consistent support of my husband, Jehanzeb, who is the CEO of the company and manages all the operations, allowing me to focus more on creative endeavors.

•You’ve reiterated the need to talk about the strength of your brand and what it represents. Do you consider yourself as an influencer?

I think anyone in the public eye these days is an influencer to some degree; with social media, individuals are engaging with celebrities/public figure on a completely different level, so yes I am also an influencer to a certain group of people.

•Is it difficult being Khadijah Shah?

I don’t know about difficult, but it sure is very hectic!

•Our industry is fast-paced, competitive, and stressful.

How do you cope with high levels of pressure?

To be honest, I thrive in it. I think since I have also been in this industry for more than a decade now, I have become used to coping with the pressure and stress, and tend to take it in my stride.

•Do you consider yourself to be more creative, analytical or logic minded?

I think I am creative and analytical. I think in visuals, so often I play around with different ideas in my head and build them mentally before executing them. In terms of marketing and strategy I tend to be analytical; I pursued Economics in college, and I believe because of that I tend to constantly ret-

rospect and analyze the multitude of factors that have an impact of the brand.

•What phase is Élan in right now? Élan has established itself as a market leader in the past few years; now it is about maintaining that position, pushing boundaries and innovation!

•You are also known as a great scout.

Hiring great design team, marketing (as it can be seen in your designs as well as your campaigns) - Are you proud of having worked with young individuals and helping them to develop – do you also learn from them?

Ofcourse! As I always say- this brand we have created, Élan, is not the effort of an individual but a team, and I have been lucky to be blessed with some great people who have really made Elan what it is. Learning is a two way street, while they may learn from me, I also learn from them, and they challenge me to be a better designer, entrepreneur and leader.

•Out of the big names, which do you like- this could be homegrown as well as international?

I have always admired Bunto aunty’s work, her workmanship remains unparalleled. Internationally there is Gambattista Valli and Dries Van Noten.

•Champs de Patchouli - Who is this collection for i.e what kind of woman/man are you targeting?

Champs de Patchouli is a bridal/ formal wear collection; The Élan bride/groom is one who values quality and perfection. They care about wearing an ensemble that is elegantly cut, meticulously embellished and makes them feel like a star, without compromising on comfort or quality.

•For your Champs de Patchouli showcase, we saw a lot of VIP’s present...

From movie stars to Pakistan’s fashion fraternity to key individuals - How important is it to have a star-studded event such as what we experienced?

It is truly humbling that so many influencers, celebrities and my contemporaries came to support me for the

showcase, and honestly have always supported me in all my endeavors. It means a lot to me on a personal level, having that support. Professionally, at any event having a strong list of attendees helps in building hype and garners a lot of media and public attention, which always helps the cause.

•How would you define the Élan of today? Élan today stands for elegance, opulence and a touch of je ne sais quoi.

•What’s the mood behind Champs de Patchouli collection? What research methods did you apply?

The collection has been inspired by the courts of Versailles and the Mughal era, so the mood is royal and opulent. In all our collections, meticulous research goes into understanding the culture, patterns and context of any inspiration. We study motifs and color palettes, aswell as the silhouettes and then assimilate the inspirations with our trademark aesthetic. That is why, upon a closer look, you will see that all our heavily embellished outfits don’t just have a repetition of motifs, but are essentially emblems of different cultures that intertwine to tell a tale of various periods and people.

•You are quite well known all circles but you’re also able to make yourself “invisible”, not often appearing in the press unless its work related. How important is your privacy and your private life?

My privacy is of the utmost importance to me; since a lot of my time goes into my work, I like to spend the little time I have for myself with my kids, my family and friends.

•What was the starting point for your Champs de Patchouli collection? Where did you take your inspiration from?

Last year I went to India for one of our collection campaigns and had the pleasure of seeing all these well maintained palaces existing from the time of Mughal era and before. The history and beauty was mesmerizing. Since then, the traditional elegance, intricate murals and grandeur of those palaces had been a constant presence in my mind; I’d say that was the inception point of Champs de Patchouli.
