he country has witnessed 28 per cent reduction in critical covid-19 cases due to smart lockdown as well as compliance with standard operating procedures (sops), said the national command and control centre (ncoc) on sunday. The ncoc said that the government’s decision to impose smart lockdown in areas reporting a spike in cases has produced the desired results as the number of cases has seen a steady decline. The ncoc said that a significant reduction in the number of positive cases has emerged as the country crossed the 100-day mark in its fight against coronavirus. “smart lockdowns, a stronger en-

government’s response against the coronavirus pandemic and "recognised the positive trend of virus curtailment" in the country. in relation to the premier's concern regarding travel restrictions, the global health watchdog assured the country's top representative that it is creating sops to remove travel restrictions in future. REDUCTION IN ACTIVE CASES: The ncoc also said that the number of coronavirus cases has started receding in the country as 156,700 patients have so far recovered from covid-19, bringing the total number of active cases in pakistan to 86,975. a total of 2,521 new cases surfaced during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 248,872, said ncoc, adding that the death toll from the virus has reached 5,197 with 74 more deaths reported over the last 24 hours. according to the ncoc, the total reported cases include 86,556 in punjab, 103,836 in sindh, 30,078 in khyber pakhtunkhwa (kp), 11,157 in balochistan, 14,023 in islamabad, 1,658 in gilgitbaltistan (gb) and 1,564 in azad Jammu and kashmir (aJk). a total of 24,211 coronavirus tests were carried out during this period, it added.

sindh chief minister syed murad ali shah on sunday said that the coronavirus outbreak has been brought under control to some extent but not completely. addressing a press conference in karachi on sunday, the chief minister said that the federal government had said two months ago that testing capacity would be increased to 50,000 per day but it was still conducting 24,000 tests in a day. he pointed out that sindh has been conducting double the number of tests of any province since the outbreak began and that too for free. “i have data till July 11, according to which we are conducting 11,790 tests per million. punjab is doing 5,359 tests, khyber pakhtunkhwa (kp) is doing 4,898 and balochistan is conducting 4,316 tests per million,” he said. murad further said that he was “not satisfied” with the testing in sindh and that the provincial health department was working on increasing capacity. The state bank of pakistan (sbp) imposed a cumulative fine worth rs1.68 billion on 15 commercial banks for violating its regulations during the period from march 2020 to June 2020, according to data released by the sbp on saturday. These banks include united bank limited (ubl), Js bank, meezan bank, faysal bank, bank of punjab (bop), habib bank limited (hbl), mcb bank, national bank of pakistan (nbp), bank al

The chief minister said that 42,780 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in the province, including 400 at isolation centres and 41,179 at their homes. he maintained that 1,201 covid19 patients are admitted at the hospitals and out of these patients, 743 are in critical condition. The chief minister said that 112 patients are on ventilators in the province. sindh cm said that 1,519 more covid-19 patients recuperated on sunday, taking the number of recovered patients to 60,958 in the province. shah said that 10,276 tests were conducted in sindh during past 24 hours and overall number of tests in the province has reached to 57,47,67. among 1713 fresh cases in sindh, 715 were detected in karachi including 325 in karachi south district, 143 in karachi east, 78 new cases in district central, 73 in malir, 66 in korangi and 30 positive cases in karachi east.
