AZAD Jammu and Kashmir s eruption into violence was extreme with the deaths of both sides indicating that violence could grow The death of nine people on Wednesday in Muzaffarabad followed the killing of a shopkeeper on Tuesday; that six people were killed is bad enough, but the death of three policemen by shooting shows that there was firing on both sides Some of the protesters were prepared this time This is a bad marbinger for the future especially for the future negotiations which are the only way out of the impasse which seems to have developed between the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee The federal government, which deputed two Ministers, Engineer Amir Muqam and Tariq Fazaql Chaudhary to help with the negotiations, said that it had agreed to all but two points of the JKAAC demands Those relate to placing a limit on the size of the Cabinet, and the election of the refugees’ member to the AJK Assembly which is presently done by a separate all-Pakistan ballot, and which is used to create a majority according to the will of the Islamabad government than the will of the people of Zazad Kashmir As pointed out by Mr Chaudhry, placing a limit on the size of the Cabinet is something only the Assembly can do Abolishing the refugee seats would be opposed by the federal government as those are the only representatives of those areas of Kashmir under Indian occupation Any change in their number or nature would require an amendment in the AJK Constitution
This unrest has lasted for some time, and can be attributed to the long domination of AJK by the federal government It is an uncomfortable truth that the AJK government is always of the same party hue as that in Islamabad The June appointment of 27 ministers (taking the total to 29) as well as seven special assistants to the PM breathed new life into the JKAAC protests The appointments may have been necessary to shore up the government’s majority but seems to have fuelled public resentment However that also seems one of the government’s red lines, and the point does not seem to have been settled by the negotiations between a vastly expanded federal team and the JKAAC The AJK government needs to establish its writ but must also ensure that this does not stand in the way of a settlement The federal government must also remain aware that Azad Kashmir is supposed to ber the base camp for the liberation of Kashmir and purely local concerns should not be allowed to provide comfort to any hostile power

Tdedication and at the explicit behest of the USA has laboured as the primary mediator in a desperate bid for peace This is no isolated incident, no regrettable miscalculation This is the latest, and perhaps most audacious, strike in a chilling, unbroken chain of aggression that defines the very essence of the Israeli state I will not mince words This will expose the architect of chaos the purveyor of genocide and the relentless antagonist that, with each calculated atrocity, drags the entire world closer to the precipice of an unimaginable regional, perhaps even global inferno The time for polite diplomacy is over; the time for unvarnished truth is now The fundamental reality that Israel is not just a regional actor but is and has always been the antagonist of every story it touches, must be understood before one can appreciate the heinousness of the attack on Qatar The most recent but by no means the only evidence of this indisputable fact is the horrific post-apocalyptic landscape of Gaza A systematic painstakingly carried out genocide, broadcast live to a world that largely ignores it, is what takes place every day in that besieged strip It is not war We see in graphic detail the willful starvation of chil-

The ongoing humiliation and dehumanization of a whole people the choking blockade of Gaza and the occupation of the West Bank are not unintended outcomes of a convoluted geopolitical conflict They are the purposeful, planned tools of an apartheid state, intended to destroy Palestinian identity and assert total control over supposedly ancestral homelands Israel has a history of conquest rather than defence Its story is one of systematic oppression rather than one of survival However even for a state used to functioning outside the bounds of international law, the attack on Qatar marks a new, terrifying low As the main, frequently only, mediator between Israel and Hamas Qatar has been instrumental for months This was not a self-appointed mission; rather the USA and other Western powers explicitly urged indeed, begged for this responsibility

security The US government explicitly supported and encouraged Qatar s diplomatic efforts which included mediating a possible ceasefire between Israel and Hamas These efforts went beyond simple humanitarian efforts Israel has committed a grave betrayal with its attack on Qatar a country that has continuously served as a mediator on behalf of the USA It shatters the notion that nations aiding the USA will be shielded from the aggressions of its other allies openly disregards the sovereignty and security of a vital ally and directly undercuts the country s diplomatic efforts And what has Israel done to repay this vital, life-saving diplomatic endeavour? The road towards the latest ceasefire equation has been paved with confusion to say the least Therefore, in order to make this more digestible, it is perhaps more important to trace the deal’s origins and seek to read what potential outcomes may be ahead of us As an entry point to comprehending what has just happened and why so many nations have endorsed the proposal set forth by the US President and his Israeli counterpart, it is necessary to look at the document known as the “New York Declaration” On September 12 the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) unanimously
voted to adopt the declaration, which was popularly reported as a simple vote on Palestinian Statehood However, UNGA votes approving the so-called two-State solution model have been voted through unanimously for around three decades now

When Hamas came back with its response to the US-Israeli proposal it did so in an extremely calculated manner using the rhetoric of acceptance yet still outlining the need for further negotiation on different points of concern In all, Hamas had accepted Donald Trump s plan as a basis for negotiating a ceasefire, in the absence of any real agreement
What led Hamas to this assumed position was a number of factors including on one hand the total rejection of a surrender plan as it was viewed as unacceptable by the factions in Gaza and, on the other hand, the pressure of Qatar, Turkiye and Egypt to accept the deal
However, the White House seemed to indicate that it demands Hamas immediately hand over all Israeli captives held in Gaza within 72 hours after which they will just have to depend on Israel’s goodwill to uphold their side of the bargain Considering that Israel decided to violate a much more detailed and phased ceasefire agreement back in March, going on to mass murder over 12,000 civilians afterwards, the idea that Tel Aviv will respect such an agreement is outlandish
