rime minister Shahbaz Sharif led coalition government will present rs9.5 trillion budget for fiscal year 2022-23 on friday. as per the details, finance minister will present the budget in national assembly. the total outlay of budget would be around rs9.5 trillion including rs8.79 trillion current expenditures and rs800 billion for public Sector development program (pSdp). out of rs800 billion pSdp, the government has allocated rs2.2 trillion for 160 new schemes on the recommendation of coalition partners in next year pSdp. Sources said that government has pro-
posed to allocate rs4 trillion for debt servicing including rs3.5 trillion for interest payments on loans and rs500 billion for interest payments on external loans. in addition, sources said that government has also proposed to allocate rs1.6 trillion for defense budget for the next fiscal year. Sources said that government has decided to allocate rs530 billion for payment of pension to retired government servants while it has also proposed to allocate rs550 billion for running the civil government for the next fiscal year. meanwhile, the government is allocating rs1,232 billion for grants and transfers, rs578 billion for subsidies and rs398 billion for other expenditures for the next fiscal year. Sources said that government has de-
cided to set rs7.25 trillion tax revenue target and rs1.5 trillion for non-tax revenue for the next fiscal year. on the other hand, the fbr on the instruction of imf has decided to impose new taxes worth rs1,100 billion besides withdrawing sales tax exemptions. Sources said that the finance ministry is projecting a budget deficit of 4.8 percent of gdp (rs3.8 trillion) for the next fiscal year to revive the stalled imf loan program. meanwhile, federal minister for finance and revenue miftah ismail will chair the launching ceremony of the economic Survey for the outgoing fiscal year on thursday. it will provide details on the major socioeconomic developments during the financial year 2021-22.

the military on Wednesday dismissed allegations hurled against its top leadership by senior journalist Shaheen Sehbai, terming them a ‘baseless propaganda’. Sehbai, in a tweet, had claimed that former finance minister Shaukat tarin was asked by the establishment to “betray”

However, military’s media wing, the inter-Services public relations (iSpr), denied the charge in a statement issued today. “the insinuations by Shaheen Sehbai and some others on social media quoting the former finance minister are baseless propaganda,” it said. “the same has also been duly rebutted by mr Shaukat tarin himself. peddling malicious allegations and blatant lies against the institution and its leadership to promote vested interests is condemnable and institution reserves the right to take legal action against those involved.” Sehbai’s claims were also denied by the former finance minister himself in a twitter post. “i categorically deny what has been attributed to me by Shaheen Sebhai. i was never asked by anyone in the establishment to leave iK and join Shahbaz Shareef govt,” he wrote on his official twitter handle..
Tough decisions taken to stabilise economy: PM prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has asserted that the federal government has taken tough decisions to stabilise the country’s economy. taking to twitter, the prime minister noted that the coalition government has taken some difficult decisions to stabilise the economy. “We didn’t care for their impact on our political capital, for doing so is in the best interest of pakistan,” pm Shehbaz added. “for how long will we continue to be consumed by our narrow interests at the cost of national duties?” the premier asked. in another tweet, the prime minister reiterated that pakistan’s economic security was deeply linked to its political stability. “time has come for political forces and all stakeholders to rise above their narrow interests and agree on charter of economy,” he added. “We need to increase our exports and reduce
imports to come out of recurrent balance of payment crisis. i proposed the public-private partnership as a way of involving our private sector in the conception and execution of development projects,” he wrote. referring to the outcomes of the pre-budget business conference, pm Shehbaz Sharif said that he has decided to form various task forces consisting of experts and professionals belonging to it, export, agriculture, finance sectors and food security to finalise the proposals for fast-paced implementation. the prime minister further said that what the nation is going through right now is certainly a difficult time. “the hard decisions were necessitated by circumstances.
