The Recovery Education Institute assists students in reaching their personal educational goals at NO COST to eligible students. Classes prepare students to enter certification programs, vocational programs and/or college settings. At REI, students develop the personal and academic skills necessary to succeed with their education.

The Mental Health Worker program is designed to educate students to understand cultural competency, skills needed for clients and family members to enter the public mental health workforce, benefits acquisition, the recovery model, co-occurring disorders and integrated services, early identification of mental illness and evidence-based practices

This accredited Alcohol and Drug Studies program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and and practical experience needed to support individuals and families affected by Substance Use Disorders This program prepares students for the California State Certified Addiction Counselor exam through a combination of Human Services core training and supervised fieldwork.

Offered several times a year, the 80-hr. Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Training will equip graduates of the program to become Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists (CMPSS) and find employment in the peer workforce Our staff will work with students to assist and offer support with the employment process during and after training, including PSS exam prep, career exploration and Continuing Education (CE’s).
Certificate of Completion offered if attendance requirements are met.
To seek Certification as Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist an individual must meet the following qualifications:
1.Be at least 18 years of age.
2 Possess a high school diploma or equivalent degree
3.Self-identify as having lived experience with mental illness or substance use recovery, either personally or as a caregiver or family member.
4 Be willing to share their experience and have a strong dedication to recovery.
5 Agree, in writing, to adhere to the Code of Ethics
6.Complete an 80-hour peer support specialist training approved by CalMHSA
7.Pass the certification examination.

Certificate of Achievement: Social Work & Human Services Assistant (SWHSA)
A 19-unit program designed for students pursuing careers in human services or completing the Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist (PSS) Certification Training. Coursework builds foundational skills in social work practice, multicultural counseling, and behavioral health and may be applied toward the Associate of Science (A S ) or Associate Degree for Transfer (A.D.T.) in Social Work & Human Services Assistant when continued directly through SCC
REI students enrolled in Santiago Canyon College (SCC) courses are dual-enrolled and held to the same academic standards and Career&TransferOpportunities
REI supports a limited number of SCC courses each semester that apply toward this certificate Additional courses required for degrees beyond the 19-unit certificate must be taken directly through SCC and are not funded by REI Enrollment is subject to SCC space availability and eligibility.
