Iria Urgell Age Edad: 27 I am: the manager of Lío. SoY: La encargada de Lío. At 27, Iria is the youngest of the Urgell family. Her father, Ricardo, is the founder of Pacha. Iria has lived in Ibiza all her life and is a managing partner of the Pacha Group.
A sus 27 años, Iria es la más joven de la familia Urgell. Su padre, Ricardo, es el fundador de Pacha. Iria ha vivido toda su vida en Ibiza y es socia gerente del Grupo Pacha. El legado de los Urgell es alargado: “Sí, y es nuestra tarea asegurarnos de que sigue siendo así. He estudiado en el extranjero desde los nueve años y cuando era más joven y estaba en el colegio no sabía nada del negocio. Pero eso era normal a mi edad. Tan pronto como empecé a estudiar hostelería, tuve claro lo que quería hacer. Nunca se puso en duda que acabaría uniéndome al Grupo Pacha junto al resto de mi familia”. Eres una mujer en una industria muy dominada por los hombres: “Sí. Sé que no es habitual y que puede ser difícil, pero me gusta. He descubierto que la clave es aprovecharse de la situación. En muchos casos puede ser positivo. De todos modos, me rodeo de un equipo excelente y nos apoyamos unos a otros”. Trabajas en el ámbito empresarial del Grupo Pacha: “Exacto. Soy la encargada de Lío, nuestro restaurante y club de cabaret. Sin embargo, dada la naturaleza del negocio familiar, estoy

Tú y tus hermanos (Hugo y Panchi) sois la nueva generación de Urgells: “Por supuesto. Somos la sangre nueva, pero no hemos cambiado el grupo. Todos seguimos las directrices de mi padre y trabajamos en lo que él ha creado. Por supuesto que estamos innovando, tenemos que ser conscientes de las modas dentro de nuestra industria. Pero trabajamos con lo que mi padre ha creado y no nos alejamos mucho del camino que ha marcado. Él es la máxima influencia para nosotros”. Tus padres te han mostrado el camino: “¡Mis padres han sido los mejores maestros! A la hora de saber cómo vivir, cómo relacionarme y cómo ser independiente al máximo. Pero sobre todo, haber tenido la oportunidad de viajar con ellos, de ver el mundo, ha sido el mejor viaje de mi vida. Sé que he sido una privilegiada y que hay otros que quizá no han tenido tanta suerte”.

The Urgell legacy spreads far and wide: “Yes, and it is our job to make sure it continues. I’ve been studying overseas since I was nine years old, and when I was younger and in school I didn’t know my way around the business. But that was only normal for my age. As soon as I began to study hospitality, it became to clear what I wanted to do. There was never really any question that I would join the Pacha Group alongside the rest of my family.” You’re a woman in a very male-dominated industry: “I know it’s unusual and it can be difficult but I like it. I have found that the key is to take take advantage of the situation. In many cases, it can be a good thing. Anyhow, I have an excellent team around me and we all support one another without fail.” You work in the business side of the Pacha Group: “Exactly. I am the manager of Lío, our restaurant and cabaret club. However, because of the nature of family businesses, I’m also connected to the entire group and we are all involved in every aspect really.” You and your brothers (Hugo and Panchi) are the next generation of Urgells: “We are the new breed. But we haven’t changed the group. We all follow my dad’s lead and we all work on his creations. Of course we are updating ideas – we have to be aware of the trends within our industry – but we work on what my father has created and do not stray too much from that path. He is the biggest influence you can imagine on all of us.” Your parents have shown you the way: “My parents have taught me the best! To know how to live and how to relate to everyone, and how to be as independent as possible. Above all, to have had the chance to travel with them, to see the world, has been the greatest journey of my life. I’m aware that I’ve had privileges and that there are many people who perhaps have not been as lucky.”
