Toromar was a bullfighting school which held small tourist shows in Ibiza’s Salinas area. It was an illegal construction that later sought nightclub status; however, it never made it. Its hopes of becoming an exclusive club were dashed and it ended up hosting illegal afterparties, notably for Cocoon. There were tense moments during action by the Grupo de Estudios de la Naturaleza (GEN – an environmental activist group) calling for the demolition of the illegal structure, with death threats even being issued.
ToroMar Toromar fue una escuela taurina que ofrecía espectáculos en las Salinas de Ibiza. Una construcción ilegal que quiso funcionar como discoteca pero no lo consiguió. Pretendió ser una discoteca de lujo pero irónicamente acabó acogiendo fiestas ilegales. En una de las tantas acciones reivindicativas del Grupo de Estudios de la Naturaleza (GEN) para exigir el derribo de esta estructura ilegal se vivieron momentos muy tensos, incluyendo amenazas de muerte de por medio.
This unusual and atmospheric venue took the form of a Roman circus and was located in the Can Bufí hippodrome, where horse and greyhound races were held. Glory’s disco was created some time after, and was one of the first to open in Ibiza in the 1970s. Glory’s offered art exhibitions, an arts and crafts fair, the residents-only Ibiza Jockey Club, and one thousand square metres of open-air terraces. Today it is used by a skip company for waste recycling.
glory’s Un peculiar recinto con forma de circo romano ubicado en el hipódromo de Can Bufí que acogía carreras de galgos y de caballos. La discoteca Glory’s se creo con posterioridad y fue una de las primeras en abrir en Ibiza a finales de la década de los 70. Su propuesta de ocio: exposiciones de arte y artesanía, el Jockey Club Ibiza exclusivo para residentes, y mil metros cuadrados de terraza. Hoy en día lo utiliza una empresa distribuidora de contenedores para el reciclaje de residuos.
