Chairman’s Chat Successful Meets

Welcome everyone to my 2nd newsletter this year. As usual we have had loads of DA camping available and the usual mixture of Scottish weather, although we had a glorious spell of sunshine in May. The weather doesn’t put us off.

Remember to send me any photographs or stories that you want to show in your newsletter as usual, I have had to borrow(!) some pictures so thank you to everyone that remembers to take them.

I hope you’ve all had a great year and look forward to doing it all again next year.

Chat from our Chairman Well, what a wonderful camping season we’ve had.

All our meets were well attended and everyone enjoyed themselves. A huge thanks goes to all our stewards and helpers who keep the DA ticking over.

We are always on the lookout for new stewards who are rewarded with free camping. If you wish to volunteer, then please contact me.

It’s now time to do the important job of draining our caravans in preparation for winter. We really do have the best members and I look forward to meeting with you all next year.

Aberfeldy THS June 2023 A successful THS again this year at beautiful Aberfeldy. We have to say a huge big thank you to Stephen and Nancy Ruck, who have stewarded this meet, originally as 2nd in charge (for 6 years) and then for 12 years along with helpers. We will still see them on the field but they have decided to retire from stewarding it. Stephen and Nancy, we really appreciate the time and effort you have put into doing this for the club.

Aberfeldy is situated on the River Tay (Scotland longest river) and is home to the Birks of Aberfeldy, made famous by our national bard, Robert Burns. Burns wrote a poem about the Birks in 1787 and you can follow the footpaths for 2 miles up to the Falls of Moness, where you will discover spectacular views. The town is also home to Dewars Aberfeldy Distillery. Pop in for a tour or a dram if you fancy.

Scoughall Farm—North Berwick One of our most popular meets, there really is something for everyone at Scoughall Farm. Situated next to a stunning beach where you can enjoy long walks, crab racing, sandcastle building (big competition!) and midnight sing-a-longs around the campfire, this idyllic holiday is one not to be missed.

From film night (thanks Gordon Bell), quizzes (thanks Andrew and Sheila Wilson), paella night (thanks Simon and Wendy and all helpers), ceilidh night with the band Rock n Reel or games night and crazy card night (thanks Nick Groome-Vine), murder mystery night and keep-fit (thanks Denise Miller), we have enjoyed a variety of entertainment for everyone.

And if you have a boat, then there is loads of fishing to be done. This year the winner of the biggest fish was Paul Chamberlain who won the Dennis Brown trophy with a 5lb 8oz fish!! Wow—well done!!

Fox Lake, just a 10 minute journey off-site is a popular day out for everyone—organised by Gordon Bell.

A choice of low ropes obstacle course, wakeboarding or the new aquapark. The aquapark was a great success and great fun was had by all. Not for the faint hearted, it looks easier than it is—apparently!

The Junior Youth were catered for by myself (Junior Youth Assistant) and Lesley Cook (Junior Youth Officer) after saving up toilet roll holders and egg cartons for a few months! Its amazing what we can produce with these. The Junior Youth also had 2 successful campouts just off site where they learnt to put up a tent, prepare supper and chatted and played games around the campfire, preparing to be our future youth. Great team work and excellent behaviour!!

This year at Scoughall, we had a party for one of our youth leaving to go to America for a Football Scholarship. We had an excellent night in the marquee, dancing and enjoying the cocktails and mocktails. Have a fabulous time Sean Martin.

Lathalmond—Bus Museum Halloween meet then joining Edinburgh for Firework meet Guising caravan style is so much fun! The caravans were spooktacular. The children visited the caravans first, dressed up, with their jokes and poems to entertain and receive the goodies. Then everyone met up in the hall for some Halloween games and dancing. A fun night was had by all ages.

Other news: The National Youth Rally was a success for Scotland, bringing home the Austin Trophy again. Well done to everyone that took part.

Cairnsmill—St Andrews To round off the year, we finished with a great meet at Cairnsmill in St Andrews.

Friday night bingo and music on Saturday night is always something to look forward to. We also have use of the pool, jacuzzi and steam room and St Andrews is a lovely town to visit with loads of unique shops and restaurants. This is a booked meet and is usually very well attended but if you wish your name on the list, then just contact Phil.

We hope you have had a great year with us. Have a lovely time over the festive period and we will see you on a field next year, ready to do it all again.
