It was a bit of a false alarm, though. Even though Bruce’s is a world-class wave and one of the best right-hand point breaks in the world, she is a rare beast. Needing a combination of the west wind, a swell from the east or with a southerly angle to it, and low tides, Bruce’s was declared fickle and inconsistent. Many surfers who came to visit and surf Bruce’s left disappointed.
Still, Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay was soon much more consistent than Bruces’ and took
over as the primary mecca for anyone doing a surfari in South Africa.
HULETT’S REEF Nowadays, Hulett’s Reef is the more consistent and noted surf spot in the area. Especially popular among the longboarding population and an excellent location for the kids who are learning to surf. With Bruce’s Café overlooking the surf spot, the coffee shop has become the place to hang in the morning for those who have leisure time on their hands.
