JEFFREYS BAY Home of the Waves
When you think of Jeffreys Bay, the first thing that comes to mind is always the waves. While most people think of Supertubes, the venue for the JBay Open event, there are so many more waves and beautiful beaches in Jbay. Kitchen Windows is the first wave and is situated on the western side of town. A great wave for beginners and close to the
JBay Surf Village, a great retail experience. https://jbaysurfvillage.co.za/ Magnatubes is the next wave, and then there is the beachbreak at Magnas, a popular beach for visitors and locals alike. Boneyards is the first bit of reef
near the top of the point, before the glorious 300 meter stretch of wave known as Supertubes. Being host to the top professional surfers in the world, this section of the wave is the focal point in JBay, and where the surfers tend to congregate. JBay went from a small fishing village to a bustling coastal town because of the waves. As a result, much of the economy in the area is ocean economy and similar beach-orientated occupations. There are surf schools and surf shops, wetsuit shops and surfboard shops. There are
skate shops and skate parks, and there are lovely restaurants either owned by surfers or run by surfers. All of this exists in a beautiful town with incredible views and long, warm summers. JBay is within easy reach of the game farms and other adventures like bungee jumping and skydiving. Still, most people head to JBay to get near the soothing embrace of the ocean, to watch the dolphins and whales, and to watch the surfers doing their thing.

Jeffreys Bay, or JBay as we like to call it, is one of the most beautiful places to live in the Eastern Cape. It has enjoyed immense popularity over the last few years with the migration of city folk to the quiet and calmness of coastal villages and towns. It has so much to offer, and in a time of economic growth, there are business opportunities at every turn. There is the annual JBay Open and the JBay Winterfest, and there are several festivals every summer. Although these festivals have been on hold for a while, they will return. There is also much development towards the Fountains Mall. There are also plans for a new upmarket residential development towards the
eastern side of JBay, towards the Gamtoos. Some might think that there are no more properties with sea frontage or sea views, but there are many. JBay itself is built on a hill overlooking the ocean. Paradise Beach and Aston Bay have beautiful areas close to the sea with easy access to the sea. There’s also the wonderful Marina Martinique The marina, with its 5 km of meandering waterways, quaint bridges and Cape Caribbean style homes, is peaceful and safe to live in. THE KABELJOUS NATURE RESERVE must be one of Jbay’s best kept secrets So few locals realise we
have some of the most beautiful wilderness right here on our doorstep! The reserve has a number of bird and animal species as well as
some beautiful flora. It consists of multiple biomes including a sandy beach and a river. It includes parts of the Kabeljous river and estuary as well as a sandy shoreline fronted by beautiful dunes that are covered in seashore vegetation and dune thicket. It also harbours wetlands, including salt marshes, Renosterveld and Mesic Thicket with Euphorbia forest. There truly is a whole world within the boundaries of the reserve. There are hiking trails, ranging from 500 m up to 8km which are clearly marked and easy to follow.
Remember this piece of natural heaven needs to be protected take only photographs, leave only footprints The reserve is maintained by Kabeljous Reserve Action Group. They rely on public donations and volunteer workers to help maintain the Kabeljous Nature Reserve and make it accessible for everyone to enjoy.
