Es para mí un honor que Madrid vuelva a ser anfitrión del Concurso de Saltos Internacional (CSI) 5 * de «LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR» que cumple 112 ediciones. Creo que es un motivo de sano orgullo para todos los madrileños que sea el Club de Campo Villa de Madrid el que albergue el CSI de Longines Tour, considerado como el concurso más importante y de mayor dotación económica del mundo, y que recorre Asia, América y Europa. Por tanto, durante este evento Madrid se convierte en la capital mundial del deporte ecuestre por acoger a los mejores jinetes y caballos que compiten actualmente en el planeta. Además de contar con grandes nombres de la escena internacional, asistirán los mejores binomios nacionales. Nuestra ciudad forma parte del grupo de capitales mundiales que albergan eventos deportivos de gran relevancia internacional. Madrid tiene mucho que ofrecer a la hípica y a sus admiradores. Nuestra hospitalidad, nuestros comercios y nuestra gastronomía, se presentan como la plataforma perfecta para una experiencia compartida y única. Invito a todos los madrileños y a los que nos visiten en esas fechas a asistir a este extraordinario espectáculo, y a compartir la alegría de este deporte. It is an honor for me that Madrid will once again host the international show jumping competition (CSI) 5 Stars of the LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR, which celebrates its 112th edition. I think it is a source of healthy pride for all the people of Madrid that it is our Club de Campo that hosts the CSI of the Longines Tour, considered the most important and most economically endowed circle in the world, which travels through Asia, America and Europe. Therefore, during this event Madrid becomes the world capital of equestrian sport by hosting the best riders and horses currently competing on the planet. In addition to the great names of the international scene, the best national pairs will be present. Our city is part of the group of world capitals that host sporting events of great international relevance. Madrid has a lot to offer to the equestrian world and its fans. Our hospitality, our stores and our gastronomy are the perfect platform for a shared and unique experience. I invite all the people of Madrid and those who visit us on these dates to attend this extraordinary spectacle, and to share the joy of this sport. El Club de Campo Villa de Madrid acoge un año más el Concurso Internacional de Saltos de Madrid, que llega en 2023 a su CXII edición.

The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will once again host the International Show Jumping Competition of Madrid, which reaches its CXII edition in 2023.

En él, los mejores jinetes y amazonas del mundo competirán en un amplio programa de pruebas entre las que destacan la Copa de S.M. El Rey y el Gran Premio Longines Global Champions de Madrid.

The best riders in the world will compete in an extensive programme of events, including the Copa de S.M. El Rey and Global Champions Grand Prix of Madrid.

Entre todos estos deportistas se encuentran también nuestros más importantes representantes internacionales, que durante toda la temporada 2023 tienen como objetivo la clasificación de España, en el Campeonato de Europa, para los JJOO de París. Para su preparación, dentro del programa deportivo de la RFHE, Madrid es una de las principales citas.

Among all these athletes are also our most important international representatives, who throughout the 2023 season will be aiming to qualify Spain, at the European Championships, for the Paris Olympics. For their preparation, Madrid is one of the main events in the RFHE’s sports programme.

En el plano organizativo, la colaboración pública del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, con el Comité Organizador del concurso, el Club de Campo y el amplio grupo de empresas de primer nivel que patrocinan el evento, hará viable la competición, poniendo nuevamente de relieve la importancia del trabajo conjunto de todos los agentes del sector ecuestre. Nuevamente las gradas del Club de Campo y su pista verde se llenarán de aficionados al deporte hípico, eje fundamental de la industria del caballo.

In terms of organisation, the public collaboration of Madrid City Council, the competition’s Organising Committee, the Club de Campo and the large group of top level companies sponsoring the event, will make the competition viable, once again highlighting the importance of the joint work of all those involved in the equestrian sector. The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host the 112th CSI Madrid from the 12th to the 14th of May with the participation of the best riders in the world. We hope that this new edition will be even more attractive and exciting for everyone and will promote equestrian sport and our city. This international show jumping competition is the most important of those held in our country and is part of the Longines Global Champions Tour and the GCL, the most prestigious equestrian circuit in the world.

El Concurso Hípico Internacional de Madrid cumple 112 ediciones y lo hace, un año más, formando parte del Longines Global Champions Tour. El circuito visitará esta temporada 16 exclusivas ciudades y repartirá más de 40 millones de dólares en premios. Además, el Club de Campo Villa de Madrid volverá a ser sede de la Global Champions League, la liga de equipos que se disputa junto al circuito individual.

The Madrid CSI celebrates its 112th edition and does so, for another year, as part of the Longines Global Champions Tour. This season, the circuit will visit 16 exclusive cities and will distribute more than 40 million dollars in prize money. In addition, the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will once again host the Global Champions League, the team league that is competed alongside the individual circuit.

34 El CSI Madrid comenzó su andadura en el año 1907 en las instalaciones que el Club de Campo tenía en el Paseo de la Castellana. Unos años después, se trasladó a la pista principal del Club. Durante los años 1936 al 1939, el Concurso no se celebró debido a la Guerra Civil Española. El Concurso se ha consolidado y ahora, es considerado como uno de los más prestigiosos eventos de nuestra capital y es una cita ineludible para los mejores jinetes y amazonas del mundo. En esta edición el programa del CSI de Madrid constará de 15 pruebas que se disputarán durante tres días de competición y nuestra pista será́ de nuevo el epicentro de la hípica mundial. Las pruebas más importantes del fin de semana serán la Copa de Su Majestad el Rey – Trofeo Caser Seguros, que como novedad, este año tendrá́ lugar el sábado por la tarde y el Longines Global Champions Tour Gran Premio de Madrid que se encargará de clausurar el evento el domingo por la tarde. The International Show Jumping Competition of Madrid was first held in 1907, in the Club de Campo´s facilities that in that time where in Paseo de la Castellana. Years later it was moved to the main arena of the Club. During the years from 1936 to 1939, the competition couldn´t be held due to the Spanish Civil War. The Competition has been consolidated and is currently considered one of the most prestigious events held in our capital and is an unmissable show for the best riders in the world. In this Edition the CSI of Madrid sports program will consist of 15 classes that will take place during three days of competition and our arena will be the epicenter of the equestrian world. The most important classes of the weekend will be the His Majesty the King’s Cup - Caser Seguros Trophy, which will take place on Saturday afternoon and the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Madrid, which will close the event on Sunday the afternoon. 12

MARCO FUSTÉ In Memoriam

El pasado mes de diciembre fallecía el Director de Salto de la Federación Ecuestre Internacional (FEI), nuestro querido Marco Fuste. Fue una gran pérdida para nuestro deporte en general y para la hípica española en particular. Marco ocupó el puesto de Director de Salto de la RFHE durante muchos años, fue jinete, organizador de concursos y gran aficionado a la hípica. Marco tuvo siempre una relación muy especial con el CSIO de Barcelona que se disputa en el Real Club de Polo. Pero también era un habitual en el CSI de Madrid. En esta 112 edición le echaremos de menos en el Club de Campo. Descanse en Paz.

Last December Jumping Director of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), our beloved Marco Fuste, passed away. It was a sad loss for our sport in general and for Spanish equestrianism in particular. Marco held the position of Jumping Director of the RFHE for many years, he was a rider, a competition organiser and a great equestrian enthusiast. Marco always had a very special relationship with the Barcelona CSIO held at the Real Club de Polo. But he was also a regular at the Madrid CSI. In this 112th edition we will miss him at the Club de Campo. Rest in Peace.

En 2018, levantaban la más que merecida copa de ganadores y, un año después, terminaban orgullosos en una tercera posición.

El número 9 del mundo ha competido en tres juegos olímpicos consiguiendo la medalla de bronce individual en Tokio con su espléndido Beauville Z, la medalla de plata por equipos en Londres, medalla de oro por equipos también en los Juegos Ecuestres Mundiales, ha clasificado para 5 finales de Copa del Mundo y en 2014 ganó la final de Copa de Naciones con su país y por individual. Un palmarés que pocos jinetes logran en toda una carrera deportiva. Current number 9th of the world, has competed in three Olympic games, winning the bronze medal in Tokyo, the team silver medal in London. He also got a team gold medal at the World Equestrian Games, he has qualified for 5 World Cup finals. Also, in 2014 he won the Nations Cup final with his country and individually. Padre de Maikel y jinete de renombre en el mundo ecuestre. Eric ha sido, además de ser un jinete muy destacado, ha sido entrenador del equipo nacional de España durante cuatro temporadas. Hombre de caballos con gran conocimiento del sector y responsable de la increíble trayectoria de Madrid in Motion como su jefe de equipo.

The only member of the team and the best we could have. Son of the 7-times Olympian rider Luis Álvarez Cervera, Eduardo is currently ranked 1 in the national ranking and thanks to him, Spain was present at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the team has been on the podium twice this season.

Madrid in Motion host team of this Madrid GCL Madrid 112 CSI5* Madrid in Motion is one of those teams that joined the recently launched GCL in 2006 and, six years later, can say that they have been on the final of the only three Prague Play Offs played so far. In 2018, they raised the very deserved cup and, a year later, they finished proudly in third position.

LAURA KRAUT Laura es una amazona estadounidense y campeona olímpica, y es el nuevo miembro para la temporada 2023 de Madrid In Motion. El currículum de Kraut en competición es importante. Representó a Estados Unidos en los Juegos Olímpicos, consiguiendo la plata por equipos en Tokio 2020 y ganando una medalla de oro en Pekín 2008. Kraut fue miembro del equipo medalla de oro de los WEG en Tyron en 2018 y miembro del equipo medalla de plata de los WEG en Aquisgrán en 2006. Laura is an American rider and Olympic Champion, who is one of the new members for Madrid In Motion 2023 season. Kraut´s competition resume is significant. She represented the United States at the Olympic Games, winning team silver in Tokyo in 2020 and winning a gold medal in Beijing in 2008. Kraut was a member of the gold medal WEG Team in Tyron in 2018 and member of the silver medal WEG team at Aachen in 2006.

Este jinete irlandés ha llegado recientemente al más que selecto grupo de jinetes que forman parte del Top 30 del Longines Ranking FEI. En 2017 recibió el premio “Rookie del año” por sus buenos resultados. Ahora vive afincado en sus propias cuadras en Francia y en su palmarés acumula numerosas victorias en grandes premios 5*.

La jóven estrella Jack Whitaker ha crecido en los últimos años con muchos éxitos a nivel internacional. Se unió al circuito de la GCL en 2022 como jinete sub-25 en Madrid in Motion. Jack compite junto a un buen número de caras experimentadas, y seguro que aprovecha su experiencia al tiempo que aporta su propio talento al equipo para una nueva y emocionante temporada. En 2023, Jack permanece en Madrid In Motion con el que consiguió numerosos podios el año pasado. Jack Whitaker’s star has risen in the last few years with many successes at international level. He joined again the GCL circuit in 2022 as the U25 rider on Madrid in Motion. Jack will be riding alongside a number of experienced faces, and is sure to draw on their experience while bringing his own talent to the team for an exciting new season. 2023 sees Jack stay with the same team he had many podiums with last year.

This Irish rider has recently joined the very special Top 30 in the Longines Ranking FEI. He received the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award in 2017 for his great results. He now lives in his own stables in France and on his record he has accumulated numerous 5 * Grand Prix victories.

10 years have passed since the Longines Global Champions Tour arrived in the capital of Spain. The great world circuit started in 2006 and Spain joined it 3 years later with the dazzling setting of the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia. The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid (CCVM) took over the baton and has not let go, bringing to the competition that touch of tradition, history, glamour and equestrian passion that has always characterized its international competition.

El gran circuito mundial arrancó en 2006 y España se incorporó a él 3 años después con el deslumbrante escenario de la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de Valencia. El Club de Campo Villa de Madrid (CCVM) cogió un testigo que ya no ha soltado aportando a la competición ese toque de tradición, de historia, de glamour y de pasión hípica que siempre ha caracterizado a su concurso internacional.

“Es algo totalmente diferente a los concursos en los que suelo competir, tanto por el público como por el ambiente que se vive. Estás al lado de los mejores jinetes del mundo, gente a la que admiras, y compartir con ellos las cuadras, verles entrenar y competir es un orgullo y un estímulo para intentar hacerlo bien. He montado muchos años en el CCVM y he competido en la pista verde pero hacerlo en el LGCT es completamente diferente. Impone mucho más por el ambiente, por el material de obstáculos, las pantallas publicitarias alrededor de la pista, las carpas… Es otra historia”. “It’s something totally different from the competitions in which I usually compete, both because of the public and the atmosphere. You are next to the best riders in the world, people you admire, and sharing the stables with them, watching them train and compete is a source of pride and a stimulus to try to do well. De estos 10 años tengo un recuerdo especial del desempate de Ben Maher y Explosion, que luego fueron campeones olímpicos. Fue impresionante. Hasta ese momento había 2 jinetes empatados para el primer puesto y se había vivido un momento muy bonito teniendo en cuenta que uno de ellos era Eduardo Álvarez Aznar. Cuando Edu sale a la pista con opciones de victoria se suele sentir un ambiente diferente porque además se considera un jinete de la casa.” “The Madrid track is different, it’s big, it’s grass and it’s not flat, which makes it more difficult for the riders. Es verdad que, como dices, ahora hay muchas competiciones pero Madrid es especial y siempre intento llegar con los caballos en el mejor estado de forma para intentar estar lo más arriba posible. ¿Qué aporta Madrid al Longines Global Champions Tour y qué aporta el LGCT a Madrid?

El jinete madrileño ha arrancado con fuerza en el Longines Global Champions Tour 2023 con un segundo puesto en Miami y llega a Madrid con la ambición y la esperanza de poder lograr ante su público su primera gran victoria en el circuito. De sus expectativas para este año, de sus caballos, de la evolución de la hípica y de otras muchas cosas hemos hablado con él horas antes del arranque de un concurso que le ha visto crecer y en el que sueña con poder subir al primer cajón del podio. Madrid siempre ha sido antes de que llegara el Longines Global Champions Tour un concurso de primer nivel mundial. La pista, las tribunas, el público hacen al Club de Campo Villa de Madrid (CCVM) un sitio especial y diferente, muy de caballos, con unas instalaciones de primer nivel. Y, por otro lado, el LGCT trae a Madrid los jinetes más destacados del mundo. Desde que yo empecé a saltar en esa pista cuando era pequeño el formato ha cambiado y en ese sentido creo que el concurso ha mejorado, ahora los mejores quieren venir aquí. Además, este año es uno de los concursos mejor dotados del circuito lo que le da todavía un aliciente mayor. ¿Qué hace diferente al concurso de Madrid de otras sedes del circuito? Es un concurso tradicional, clásico, que todo el mundo conoce. Es uno de esos lugares emblemáticos como Aachen, Dublín o La Baule y el LGCT le ha dado ese punto especial de traer a los mejores jinetes del mundo, lo que no es nada fácil con el calendario internacional tan apretado que tenemos ahora. ¿La pista de Madrid es complicada para los jinetes? Depende del caballo que tengas. Con uno normal se te puede hacer muy complicada pero si llevas uno bueno es una pista para disfrutar porque en ella suelen saltar mejor de lo habitual, el suelo es fantástico, el material de obstáculos ha mejorado muchísimo en los últimos años, los saltos son muy bonitos y delicados, no tan masivos como antes, y además contamos con uno de los mejores jefes de pista del mundo, lo que ayuda todavía más.

“SI LLEVAS UN BUEN CABALLO, LA PISTA DE MADRID ES PARA DISFRUTAR” La pista de Madrid es muy diferente a otras muchas sedes del circuito. ¿Ese detalle es importante a la hora de planificar y decidir con qué caballos vas a cada concurso? Hay caballos como Bentley de Sury que son polivalentes y lo hacen igual en pistas grandes, pequeñas, picaderos, en hierba o en fibra, pero también hay otros que saltan mejor en determinadas condiciones. Y a la hora de planificar hay que tenerlo muy en cuenta. Este año has arrancado bien con un 2º puesto en Miami y ahora llegas a una sede como Madrid que se te suele dar bien. ¿Te has planteado como objetivo poder ganar algún año el LGCT o es muy complicado con la gran cantidad de compromisos que tienes que afrontar? Para mí el objetivo principal es la prueba de equipos con Madrid in Motion, ahora mismo estamos segundos y vamos a intentar seguir arriba. En lo individual queda mucho por delante e iremos viendo en función de cómo vayan los resultados. Ahora tengo una cuadra que me permite compatibilizar el LGCT con Copas de Naciones y otros concursos ya que tengo 3 caballos que están a ese nivel y un cuarto que en unos pocos meses puede también estar preparado para ello. En cualquier caso, con los animales siempre estás expuesto a que todo cambie y hay que ir fin de semana a fin de semana. Nosotros tenemos un plan pero muchas veces hay que cambiarlo. ¿Cuál es tu principal objetivo para este año? El principal es intentar conseguir la clasificación de España para los Juegos Olímpicos en el Campeonato de Europa. Para esa cita tengo en mente ir con Legend, un caballo que ha estado tiempo sin competir pero ya está en forma, va a empezar de nuevo a saltar pruebas grandes y espero

poder ir con él al Europeo. A Bentley de Sury lo voy a dejar más para los concursos del LGCT, que es otro de mis grandes objetivos. Háblame de esos 2 caballos y de cómo los ves de cara a este año. A Legend le veo muy bien, ha saltado 4 semanas en la Ruta del Sol de Montenmedio en pruebas de 1’40-1’45 y me ha dejado muy buenas sensaciones, creo que ya está en condiciones de subir de nivel y con un par de concursos más podrá afrontar su primer gran compromiso en algún 5*. Está muy en forma, sano y eso es lo importante. Bentley de Sury tiene 12 años pero solo lleva uno compitiendo al más alto nivel. Creo que ya se le está empezando a notar ese año de experiencia, cada vez le cuesta menos

Antes había menos competiciones y se preparaban en casa pero eso ahora es imposible, ¿no? Afortunadamente, tengo la suerte de contar con un magnífico equipo en casa que me mantiene los caballos ejercitados y en forma para que cuando yo llegue pueda saltarlos y preparar la siguiente competición. Ha cambiado mucho el calendario y han

Este año ha cambiado el formato de la competición LGCT. Antes, la 2º manga de la prueba de equipos y calificativa del Gran Premio se disputaba el mismo día que éste y ahora se hace el viernes. ¿Mejor así? En Miami, por el tiempo, solo hubo una manga de la prueba de equipos el día antes del Gran Premio y me gustó mucho, me parece el mejor formato pero no es el que vamos a tener el resto del año. Yo casi prefiero el de Madrid porque después de la prueba de equipos del viernes hay un día de por medio antes del Gran Premio y eso te permite cambiar de caballo y no someterlos a tanto esfuerzo. Hay que seguir probando y viendo cuál es la mejor fórmula. Ya has estado muy cerca de ganar el Gran

Imagino que el tercer caballo al que te referías antes para compromisos importantes es D’Orient Batilly, que viene de ser 2º en pruebas de México y Miami. Sí, D’Orient Batilly ya saltó este invierno en Copa del Mundo sin tener ninguna experiencia, cuando llegó a mi cuadra estaba saltando pruebas de 1’40 y está teniendo una magnífica evolución, lo hizo bien indoor y ha tenido buenos resultados tanto en Miami como en México. Creo que también es un caballo que tiene mucho que decir este año. ¿Qué es de Rockefeller de Pleville Bois Margot, al que no vemos desde que ganó el Gran Premio del CSIO de Madrid y fue 2º en el de Maeza el verano pasado? Está ya en marcha, está trabajando y la idea es ponerlo en forma para ver si puede hacer algún concurso. Mi idea y mi ilusión

cambiado mucho también los recorridos. Ahora se ven distancias entre obstáculos que hace años parecerían impensables. ¿A qué crees que se debe? El nivel ha subido mucho, los jinetes tienen mucha experiencia, los caballos son cada vez mejores y como las alturas ya no se pueden subir más pues los jefes de pista tienen que jugar con las distancias y con el tiempo. Cuando yo empecé a saltar internacional, una combinación a una distancia de 8’108’20 parecía larguísima y ahora, en cambio, una distancia de 8’30 te puede venir cortísima, todo depende de lo que te hayan puesto delante de esa combinación. Todo evoluciona, todo cambia, en casa también se entrena de forma diferente. Cuando la moda era poner distancias cortas nosotros entrenábamos para eso, siempre corto. Ahora, en cambio, la tendencia es a poner largo para que los caballos salten un poco planos, ahora se busca un control diferente, no para atrás sino sobre un buen ritmo.

Premio de Madrid en varias ocasiones. ¿Te ves lográndolo? Creo que este año llego en muy buenas condiciones con un caballo que está en forma y que ya tiene la experiencia suficiente. Desde luego, intentarlo lo voy a intentar. Eduardo ganó el año pasado el Gran Premio del CSIO de Madrid con Rockefeller y ya ha subido al podio del LGCT en el Club de Campo en 2 ocasiones: fue 2º en 2018 y 3º en 2016. Le falta la guinda, ese momento soñado de gloria de escuchar el himno nacional tras ganar la prueba más importante de un concurso internacional 5* frente a los mejores jinetes del mundo en su propia ciudad. Él dice que lo va a intentar y el público de Madrid hará todo lo posible para que lo consiga.

What is your main goal for this year? The main goal is to try to qualify Spain for the Olympic Games at the European Championships. For that event I have in mind to go with Legend, a horse that has been out of competition for a while but is now in shape, he is going to start jumping big tests again and I hope to be able to go with him to the European Championships. I am going to leave Bentley de Sury for the LGCT competitions, which is another of my big objectives. SILVIA AZNAR In Memoriam

La 112 edición será diferente sin Silvia Aznar, una mujer muy vinculada al CSI de Madrid. Su marido Luis ganó varias veces el Gran Premio y la Copa de S.M. El Rey, su hijo Eduardo lleva años siendo uno de los jinetes destacados y su hija Alejandra es la Jefa de Protocolo del concurso. Además, a través de Marqués de Riscal, Silvia patrocinó el evento durante mucho tiempo. El 27 de Julio de 2022 Silvia nos dejó y esta será la primera primavera sin ella en la pista verde del Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Le tenemos muy presente y su recuerdo es una motivación para todos nosotros. Descanse en paz. The 112th edition will be different without Silvia Aznar, a woman closely linked to the CSI Madrid.
