If you would like to give to Catholic High but still need a regular income in your retirement, consider a Charitable Gift Annuity through the Catholic Foundation of Western Kentucky. In return for your gift of cash, appreciated securities, real estate, or other assets, you will receive regular, fixed payments for the rest of your life.

It’s often said that character is revealed in times of adversity and struggle. Certainly, through this past year, our Owensboro Catholic School alumni, parents, and supporters demonstrated what special people they are. Despite a year when COVID-19 presented so much adversity and struggle, contributions reached record levels. Specifically, property adjacent to the high school was donated and Phonathon results reached $245,000!
Our supporters understand it takes more than tuition payments to fund the projects and initiatives needed for our children to receive the outstanding education we strive to provide. And after these children graduate, they join the generous community in giving back to Owensboro Catholic schools, creating a circle of giving.
We are nearing our goal of raising the funds needed to construct a first-class chemistry lab that will transform how our high schoolers will learn science. Architectural plans are in progress to renovate our beloved chapel and refresh our Parrish Avenue view and student entryway. Improvements continue in both our academic and athletic programs. We have a long list of additional projects to continue building on the rich legacy of our Catholic schools, and are forever grateful for your generosity!

Nathan lives in Lexington with his wife, Beth, and their 4 children. After graduating from OCHS, Nathan moved to Louisville to attend college at UofL and later earned bachelors and masters degrees from the business school. It was at UofL that Nathan met Beth, who is a 2001 graduate of Whitesville Trinity.
Nathan is a financial advisor at Meritrust Wealth Management, and has been in the financial services industry for 17 years. Beth is an ENT surgeon, specializing in Neurotology at the University of Kentucky. Nathan and Beth belong to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where they are active parishioners and their children attend school.
Said of his upbringing in OCS, “it was such a positive experience growing up in a big Catholic family and having a supportive and lively community of faith as part of my education growing up, and I hope I can provide that same positive experience for my kids.”

In May 2019, Paul David (Brescia ’03) purchased an Allstate agency from his mother, Paula, who continues to work at the agency.
Kristen (UK ’03, Samford McWhorter School of Pharmacy ’07) is a pharmacist for Walmart.
They recently purchased a travel trailer and enjoy camping with friends when their schedule allows.
I am still on active duty in the U.S. Navy, and July will mark 33 years since I raised my hand and took the oath with the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1992. I graduated with a B.S. in Systems Engineering and then went to flight school. I spent about 20 years flying in operational, training, and flight test squadrons, mostly flying from the deck of an aircraft carrier. Since giving up squadron command in late 2011, I've been working in weapons system acquisition, which involves development, manufacturing, and deployment of the high-tech tools that we use to defend the nation. In that time, I've had 19 duty stations in 10 different locations, with Florida being the state where I've been most. I've deployed on four different aircraft carriers, and have flown from the deck of five others. Lara, my wife of almost 22 years, has been through three of those deployments and most of those moves. In my current role, I'm the Commanding Officer of the Navy's base in Orlando, Naval Support Activity Orlando, and the Navy command that specializes in training and training systems, Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division. Our base and the work we do with our nearly $2B annual budget form the cornerstone of what we call Team Orlando, the collective group of DOD commands that wield an annual budget of $6B to partner with industry and our academic partners, primarily the University of Central Florida (UCF), to train those in all the Armed Services—and you thought that the theme parks were the only thing in Orlando. Lara and I have two daughters. Kristen is finishing her first year pursuing a B.S. in Integrated Business from UCF, and Katelyn is finishing middle school on her way to our engineering magnet high school program with hopes of pursuing an engineering degree of her own. We have two rescue pups: Bella, a threeyear-old Rottweiler and Chewie, a 10-month old Rottweiler / Staffordshire Terrier mix. The picture included is from the day we brought Chewie home, just as we locked down for COVID-19. We've lived a lot of places, but when I leave active duty this summer, we're staying in Orlando. When asked about a favorite memory from OCHS, the first thing that came to mind were the road trips for track meets. Those were some fun rides in the old green bus, and we were a lucky group that never had that old eyesore, known affectionately as the "green booger," break down and leave us stranded.
John Augenstein, a 4-time All-American golfer at Vanderbilt University, 2020 SEC Player of the Year, and former Kentucky State Champion from Owensboro Catholic High School decided to turn pro in November 2020 after 4½ years as a standout at Vanderbilt.
Augenstein is coming off a T-55 finish at the Masters Tournament, which he qualified for via his U.S. Amateur performance at Pinehurst two summers ago. He also competed in this fall’s U.S. Open. Congratulations John!
