WELCOME FROM PRIDE DIRECTOR 2023 WENTZEL APRIL

Welcome to Cape Town Pride 2023.

Cape Town Pride showcases events that represent our diverse community.

The events include the Pride Party, Mr & Miss Cape Town Pride Pageant, Divas Extravaganza, the Pride Hero's Awards, movie nights, book nights, poetry evenings, and for the first time, a 4-night Pride cruise aboard the luxurious Sinfonia. The Pride calendar of more than 27 events, culminates in the Pride March and Pride Festival Mardi Gras on the 4 March 2023.

We are also deep into planning one of the most iconic Cape Town Pride events: The Pride Proms. This glittering event boasts the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town's most fabulous LGBTQIA+ musical talent.

While we host world-class events, Pride’s mission is clear: we provide a platform for the City’s LGBTIAQ+ community to:

• raise awareness of the community’s issues;

• facilitate campaigns that allow our people to live their lives on an equal footing;

• help our diverse community remain visible and represented.

So, keep an eye on our socials and new website for updates on all the events that will take place. Can’t wait to see you there!

Enjoy Pride 2023!!!

WELCOME FROM CEO CAPE TOWN PRIDE TOMMY PATTERSON

It gives me enormous pleasure in welcoming all people in our community to Cape Town Pride 2023 ... and this year I have been contacted by a number of people coming to our city from overseas, a group of over 30 lesbian women are coming from the United States, there are people coming from Sweden, Germany, the UK, Denmark and Belgium ... I would like to welcome each and every person visiting this year’s annual City of Cape Town Pride month.

The Western Cape Government is a proud supporter of the LGBTQI+ community, and a leading province in promoting equality and individual rights. Their support is visible with the lighting up of the Cape Legislature building in Wale Street in the rainbow colours on the 9th February for Pride month.

This year's line up on the Pride stage will have you on your feet and promises to be one of the best yet ... We welcome all the performers, those that are returning as well as those who will appear on the Pride stage for the first time, such as Dope St Jude who has been touring overseas for the past few years and is returning to the city where she attended her first Pride at the age of 16 - Cape Town.

Yes, this year, the Pride March is the largest ever and after covid restrictions, the Pride Mardi Gras also promises to be the largest to date ...

The annual Pride Festival highlights the diversity and accomplishments of the LGBTQI+ community, while also promoting local tourism and contributing to our economy.

Don't forget your sunscreen, don't drink and drive and whatever events you attend at Pride 2023 - have a blast, enjoy yourself and stay safe!

SWISS INGENUITY, SOUTH AFRICAN PRIDE SUPPORTING CAPE
LGBT+ COMMUNITY
TOWN’S

WELCOME FROM MATOR OF CAPE TOWN GEORDIN HILL-LEWIS

Cape Town is a City which strives to be a beacon of hope for inclusivity, where each individual has the right to be free from discrimination on the basis of race, gender and orientation – rights which are enshrined in the constitution.

This City will continue to be an ally that celebrates the visibility and diversity of the LGBTIQ+ community.

While we are working to build a sense of pride among all residents through realising our vision of a City of Hope, we are committed to protecting the rights of all who call Cape Town home, including the LGBTIQ+ community.

Here in Cape Town, we are working hard to enable greater access to opportunity, in a place where you are able to be authentically yourself. Therefore we are honoured to provide a space for the celebration of your community pride.

The Pride Festival brings together thousands of people from different backgrounds to raise awareness, educate, and build social cohesion. The City of Cape Town is proud to partner with OUTREACH AFRICA and other organisations promoting diversity and advocating for equality.

We welcome the thousands of visitors from outside Cape Town traveling for the festival, with the high point being the Pride Parade through the streets of the Mother City.

On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I wish the organisers, members of the LGBTIQ+ community and supporters of the festival, a wonderful event experience.

Enjoy your stay in our beautiful city.

My best wishes,

Life partners need to ensure they have a will in place

A will is one of the best gifts you can give your loved ones. This is even more so in the case of couples who live together but are not married. It is important to be aware that when it comes to legal affairs and wills, love alone will not always prevail.

Your will, in particular, requires careful planning and consideration:

1. If, as a couple, you are accumulating assets together or individually, make sure you have your intentions documented in your will in terms of how and to whom you want your assets distributed.

2. Have some form of agreement, for example a contract of domestic partnership, to regulate your financial affairs.

3. Record your wishes and intentions regarding your assets as far as your life partner is concerned. In this way, you are protecting each other from family members who may have a different view as to how your assets should be distributed.

The Law of Intestate Succession does not apply to life partners, but automatically kicks in when someone passes away without leaving a valid will. In order to determine who will inherit the deceased estate, the intestate succession formula works as follows:

If a person dies leaving only a married spouse behind, the spouse will be the sole heir.

• If there is no married spouse, but there are children, those children will inherit equal portions.

• If there is a married spouse and children, they will all get a share of the deceased estate.

• If there are only parents, the parents will inherit and if there are only siblings, they will inherit the deceased estate.

Based on this, if you are not married but in a stable monogamous relationship and your partner passes away without documenting what he/she wishes to leave you in terms of assets, you will not be able to inherit from his/her estate. It is strongly recommended that life partners speak to their financial adviser to guide them in protecting each other’s assets.

It is also advisable that partners in these relationships protect their interests by entering into a contract with one another, for example protection of property interest, or right to maintenance and support, depending on their circumstances. Naturally, it is also essential that life partners execute a last will and testament should they intend to leave assets to their unmarried partner.

THE RAINBOW

BE THE OFFICIAL THE PRIDE

Green Point in Cape Town is now the proud host of a pedestrian crossing in the rainbow colours, the worldwide symbol for the LGBTQIA+ community. This district has in the past been home to many, if not the majority, of the LGBTQIA+ social amenities in the Mother City as well as the annual Cape Town Pride Parade and Festival Mardi Gras. The crossing is also supplemented with a pink strip painted on the sidewalks which serves as a Pink Route to guide visitors and tourists through this iconic LGBTQIA+ neighbourhood and beyond.

The pedestrian crossing in the rainbow colours – red, orange, yellow, green, indigo and violet – is located along the busy Somerset Road, between the intersections with Alfred Street and Dixon Street in Green Point.

‘Cape Town is known for its vibrant LGBTQIA+ nightlife and community. We want all to feel welcome in our city where we embrace diversity and the addition of this bold pedestrian crossing to our road network will help spread this message. It also speaks to innovation in public spaces and support for public art that we’d like to foster,’ said the City’s Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis.

The pink lane, which has caused some controversy on social media, runs along Somerset Road, all the way from the intersection with Liddle Sreet, and then along Dixon, Waterkant, and Rose Streets, up to the intersection with Strand Street.

‘You cannot miss the Pink Route, it is about 20cm wide,

and painted on the sidewalk. This is a fun way for visitors to get to know the area and a great addition to our tourist offering soon before the peak holiday season. It is also intended to create awareness and celebrate Cape Town as an inclusive city.

‘This exciting ‘place maker’ precinct activator is the first of its kind in Cape Town, and is aimed at re-invigorating the buzz of the LGBTQIA+ district using road markings. There are many more spaces in the city that can be looked into in future and where heritage or unique attractions can be amplified by using sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. I’m calling on visitors and residents to look out for this crossing, and to follow the Pink Route as they explore this part of our city,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

When the Rainbow Crossing was first unveiled, social media was buzzing, with supportive comments: 3 Fingers wrote, “Initially, when I saw this it put a huge smile on my face because it promotes progressiveness in inclusivity and diversity...”

Hayden Oosthuizen: “Love this!”

Tertia Alethea Fairbairn: “Love this!! Truly awesome!!”

Natalie Williams: “Moooove over zebras the proud rainbows are moving in on your space”

Tristan Mathlay said, “I saw it yesterday and was super impressed!! Love this can’t wait to see more!!”

Linda Mayekiso said, “A great start, however those are

#OwnYourTruth #OwnYourTruth 36
CROSSING

CROSSING WILL OFFICIAL START OF PRIDE MARCH

not the inclusive colours. Were are the Trans colours? Where is the black and the brown? Can we start leading with INCLUSION!” Linda has a valid point, but imagine incorporating all the colours of the LGBTQIA+ acronym in one zebra crossing ... just wondering ...

And then, of course we had the detractors ... Jennifer Davies Willis asked, “Who paid for this?” - Really! Seriously, a few tins of paint!

The religious haters, of course crawled out of the woodwork again - Colbern Heaton: “I kinda think it is a big FU to God, coz that isn’t the rainbow of God’s promise in fact its celebrating everything God despises. Remember Sodom & Gomora ....” - sad. That other little quote from the good book comes to mind ... something about “Judge not ....”

Wayne Feldman: “That roadmarkings (sic) is not in accordance with the law?? Turn capetown into a circus... (sic)” - boring.

The City in its press statement did assure the likes of Wayne, because there’s always at least one, that “the paint used for the pedestrian crossing and Pink Route complies with the SANS standards for road markings.”

Chet Gordon-Povey, lamented, from Paris, France, on the fact that the “gay village” is no more, commenting, “I understand the symbolism and location but sadly all bars nightclubs and restaurants are NOT there anymore. What happened to Crew Bar???? What happened to Amster-

dam Bar??? What happened to HOT House???? What happened to the bar next door to Amsterdam bar ??? What happened to the lesbian dance bar on Somerset Road??? And the list goes on and on.....oh what happened to the bar opposite Manhattan???? What happened to Bronx, Angels and Detour???! Nothing replaced all these iconic spots in de Waterkant!!!!!!!!!!! Sydney and here in Paris we have these crossings but it’s in the thriving spots of the gay districts....sorry Cape Town it’s pretty but it’s 5 years too late, nothing happening there just Cafe Manhattan and that’s very straight friendly at best. Ohhhh I left out Beefcakes, a hen party treasure now.”

Chet is right, but high rents, online pick-up sights and what seems to be a general apathy, amongst a host of other reasons, I guess, have killed De Waterkant as a “Gay” district, but it’s great to have the visibility, and acknowledgement that the queer community are a valuable part of the social demographic of our diverse city.

Rainbow crossings are a feature in many major LGBTQIA+ friendly cities around the world, and Cape Town Pride welcomes this addition to Cape Town’s urban landscape, a project that was started by Cllr Ian McMahon some years ago.

Cape Town Pride have already adopted the crossing as the official start point of the Pride Parade on the 4th March 2023 ... Pride supports LGBTQIA+ visibility in the city, and looks forward to the creation of more.

This show is especially significant to her, as Cape Town Pride was her first exposure to the queer community as a teenager.“I started attending Pride at the age of 16, I snuck into town without telling my parents, because I wanted to be around my people” she said in a statement. Cape Town Pride is overjoyed to welcome Dope St Jude to the Pride stage!!!

Born and raised in Cape Town, Jarrad is no stranger to our soundwaves – or screens, regularly appearing on TV shows such as Hectic Nine-9, Espresso and Musiek Roulette and has appeared on the Pride stage a number of times, most recently at the Pride Proms in 2022 and the Pride Launch at the Belgium Embassy Consular residence in November.

The SAMA nominated artist who performed at the Rugby 7's before a packed stadium in December to rapturous applause has a number of accolades to his name ... his debut album “BREAK THE RULES” was nominated in the BEST POP ALBUM category in 2019.

Music and performing are his passion. He started at the age of 14 entering talent shows, he persevered and began writing his own songs, in an interview with Netwerk24 he said, "I grew up in Athlone and come from a home where there weren't funds to do things musically or send me to music schools. I had to acquire the skills on my own and I did any and everything to educate myself and get on to stages." This drive and determination has paid off with performances both locally as well as internationally in Spain, Finland, Sweden and more.

Jarrad is also a Youth Ambassador for Cape Mental Health, saying "I always told myself that when I make it, I was not going to forget about the people and where I came from. I was a young boy looking for someone to inspire me once. I want to be that for someone." Jarrad regularly tours schools delivering his testimony.

Jarrad married best friend Kim Wentzel in a private ceremony in September 2020...

CRAIG JORDAAN MANILA VON TEEZ

Manila Von Teez needs no introduction to Pride audiences having performed on the Pride stage before.

Her list of achievements varies from Pageantry, where she has won many titles, to that as a performer.

She has featured in a number of corporate campaignsthe launch of the #FoschiniForBeauty event; The launch of the new #MACartofthelip Store in Braamfontein, sharing the stage with the likes of AKA, DJ Zinhle, Fifi Cooper and Twins on Deck. Levi’s Strauss approached her to collaborate on their Pride 2020 Campaign and in 2021, campaigns for Crocs SA, Vuse Inspired and was featured on #MethodMadness with Moonchild Sanelly.

Her highlight in 2016 was being awarded the position of Runner Up, in SA’s Got Talent beating out over 200 000 entries - the first Drag Act to make it that far.

Manila was the lead in The Kiffness music video of "You Say You Love Me" (Voted Top SA Music Video of 2016) and she was placed seventh in the world on the list of "The Black LGBTQ Power 100 in 2016!”

In 2019 she toured India, performing at the World-Famous Kitty Su Clubs. She performed at Somizi’s Wedding in January 2020 where she opened for DJ Black Coffee and Cassper Nyovest.

In 2020 she was on the Mail & Guardian's list of the Top 200 Youth in South Africa!

She also designs all her own clothes through her label Haus of Vjorn. Manila shows no signs of slowing down and is most definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Craig Jordaan is a sensational young vocalist destined for great things. Already at the age of four the kid from Elsie's River, Cape Town, knew that he wanted to become a singer. When he was in grade 4, he performed in front of an audience for the first time – like so many of the great vocalists of all times it was at church. He sang Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All”. He was a natural and he was hooked.

At Elsie's River High School he joined the Echo Band. (The Elsie's River Community of Hope and Opportunities) - They did jazz festivals, the TV program Hectic Nine 9 and participated in the popular High School Jam competition, where Craig won Best Male Vocalist in 2014 and 2016. That was his first time performing on a big stage such as that of the Grand Arena at Grand-West Casino.

In 2016, Grade 12, Craig joined the band Major7 SA, after which he went to study at Cape Music Institute for two years, graduating in November 2018. It was at Cape Music Institute where students are challenged to write original music, he started writing his own songs. His musical influences are varied, including Destiny’s Child, Beyonce, Craig David, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars and the old jazz jams.

In 2019 Craig joined SA Idols and became one of the finalists, singing Dancing With A Stranger by Sam Smith ft Normani for which he received a Whoosem from SA Idols Judge Somizi .

Craig is also the resident vocalist at Utopia Café and Lounge returning from Spain, where we did a Bruno Mars and Friends Tribute show for 6 months.

He also did The MSC Love Jazz Cruise - Sinfonia the first week of January 2023 and had a blast.

Craig will perform on the Pride stage for the first time this year!

3 DIVAS

3 FINGERS

Three Divas / 3D will be Celebrating 13 years as a Drag/ Girl Group at Cape Town Pride this year. We look forward to celebrating Pride every year cause it's the Groups Birthday.

The Group consisting of the legendary Kat Gilardi, Angel Lalamore and Jayde Kay Johnson, is being branded as the Destiny's Child of Cape Town.

3D became very well known for performing at local hot spot 169 on Long street for 4 years as well as Valeries in Kuils River, taking the "pink crowd" with them, wherever they went also taking up spaces in "Straight" club venues.

The group also did a road show with the ever popular, PJ Twins. Sharing stages with local legends The Rockets, Mi Casa, Emo & Lukmaan Adams, Jimmy Nevis, Salome & Craig Lucas and their fave Judy Boucher. They have performed at Goudini Spa for vacation goers and were also part of the Abfab show directed by well known director Basil Appollis ft., Solly Philander and local drag legends showcasing personal stories at the Artscape Theatre, as part of the Woman's Month celebrations.

3D has travelled all over South Africa including Pretoria, Johannesburg, coastal town's and the very popular Paarl goes Bos annual festival.

Three Divas have been called The Legends in Drag, but they say it's all about the music, the crowd and how much FUN they have with their audiences.

They are looking forward to celebrating 13 years of 3Divas and being part of Cape Town Pride 2023.

Hailing from Nyanga in Crossroads, the female vocal group 3 FINGERS began as a trio, Siyamthanda Matsolo, Unathi Bokolo and Fezeka Ferk Dlephu. Unfortunately, Fezeka left the group to pursue a solo career. This hit them hard. Whilst being a trio they created two tracks, Let’s Go and Sak’baweli produced by Wisemax. However, they maintain that their biggest highlight was in 2019, when through a competition they won at Zer021 Social Club, they were given an opportunity to perform the Cape Town Pride Festival Mardi Gras.

After Fezeka left, they decided not to change their name, saying "as believers, we rather included the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the third finger is The Almighty." Fascinating right! They are now working on an EP consisting of seven tracks titled, Sivulele Singene that will be released soon.

After their amazing performance at Pride 2019, it is no surprise that they are back on the Pride stage this year!

Pride

THIS IS WHY WE STILL NEED PRIDE

Pride reminds us of the importance of celebrating the diversity within our community and the achievements that we have made …

The fight to have our rights recognised by the South African government was a long and hard-fought struggle. The Apartheid government criminalised sexual intercourse between men under the common law crime of “sodomy” and “unnatural sexual offence”, as a part of the governments Immorality Act.

In 1969, an amendment to the Immorality Act further prohibited men from engaging in any erotic conduct when there were more than two people present. This galvanised the formation of several groups to oppose and fight for our equality. There are some notable people who spearheaded this movement: Simon Nkoli, Beverley Ditsi and Edwin Cameron (who was later appointed to the high court), and many other workers and activists operating in their support.

In the late 1980’s, Cape Town Pride’s Tommy Patterson organised one of the first “gay” fund-raising days called Shaft 8 which for the first time in the country, saw top South African talent performing at an LGBTI+ event. The event held in Johannesburg was a huge success.

The first Pride march was held on 13 October 1990, as a part of a broader struggle to decriminalise homosexuality in South African law and a protest against Apartheid. Marchers feared for their safety, and many wore masks during the event. Simon Nkoli addressed the crowd, saying, “I am black, and I am gay. I cannot separate the two parts of me into primary or secondary struggles. They will be all one struggle”.

In the following years Pride marches have become annual events and were held primarily in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Under South Africa’s ruling National Party from 1948 to 1994, homosexuality was a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison.

In 1993, as a direct result of the activism, the interim Constitution prohibited discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. In 1996 the constitution was approved and two years later the court gave its ruling on 9 October 1998 that the law prohibiting homosexual conduct between consenting adults in private violated the Constitution, made it legal. The court ruled that its order should be retroactively applied to 27 April 1994.

In 1994, during his inauguration speech as president, Nelson Mandela stated the following:

“They speak of a constitutional, democratic, political order in which, regardless of colour, gender, religion, political opinion or sexual orientation, the law will provide for the equal protection of all citizens.”

South Africa’s Constitution became the first in the world to prohibit unfair discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation. It thereby guarantees equality for gay and lesbian people.

We are still taught that being gay is evil, especially by religious groups, meaning that the fight that each person with a sexuality different than the run-of-the-mill straight person has is a fight for acceptance, a fight for equality and a fight for being able to just be who you are.

Whilst attitudes are changing, the process is slow, so the

fight must continue – this is why we need Pride. It is the one day, which should be every day, that we can celebrate being who we are.

So many young LGBTI+ people are anguished by revealing their sexuality to their families, their friends, and are tormented as to how to transition this secret from inner to outer.

Coming out, firstly to oneself can be a distressing experience but once one is able to embrace one’s sexuality, only then can one move ahead in life, with nothing to hide.

The fear of ‘coming out of the closet’ is very real. LGBTI+ people have their sexualities ridiculed, with some being cut-off from family, and ostracised by their communities. People tease them relentlessly, especially at schools which lead to bullying.

Pride is a time to celebrate the ever-growing, diversity of people whose sexual identity differs to the ‘norm’ of everyone else.

We strive for a day when no one needs to struggle with the stigma of being gay.

We strive for a day where we don’t have to have labels.

We strive to celebrate everyone, regardless of sexuality or gender, and show our love to the people who make this world a better place, by the diversity they give.

For people to put so much focus on another’s sexuality is absurd. It should not matter who loves which sex, or what sex they identify as, as long as they are living their life with love and compassion.

We strive for the day when we don’t have to hear any news about so-called controversy because of the addition of a gay couple to a children’s television show.

We strive for a day when we don’t have to read about someone who has been driven to suicide just for being themselves.

In 1998, discrimination in the workplace based on sexual orientation became illegal.

In 2002, the Constitutional Court gave same-sex partners the same adoption rights as married spouses.

Same sex marriage is a reality – that became legal in 2006 Whilst the fight for equality under the law has almost been achieved … there is still The Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill, which is pending in Parliament. This bill will outlaw hate crimes and hate speech on grounds of race, gender identity and sexual orientation, which we need to fight to get passed.

We also need our government to take a stand against other African governments who discriminate against their LGBTI+ citizens. After all, they represent our constitution and have taken an oath to uphold it, both here and abroad. Some countries, like Ghana, where currently a bill is being pushed through their parliament will criminalise all LGBTI+ people as well as anyone who associates with them. Recently our President was wined and dined in Ghana without a single word being made about this draconian law.

Other African countries still have the death penalty for homosexuality. Our government needs to pressure these nations and let them know that these laws are not acceptable to this country, in light of the constitution they purport to stand for, swear to uphold and represent. Something our government have been loathe to do, using the weak excuse that they don't get involved in the internal politics of fellow AU nations ... not acceptable!

However, it would seem, in this more enlightened era, that the stigma towards the LGBTQIA+ community is beginning to change, but there is still much work to be done in changing society's attitudes, particularly when it comes to our transgender community ... it is a time when everyone can come together to celebrate the diversity of the LGBTIQA acronym - our community!

THIS IS WHY WE STILL NEED PRIDE!

NKOLI HOUSE

The Nkoli House Project has been established to set up a Pride Community care centre in Cape Town.

The Nkoli House Project, so named in honour of the late Simon Nkoli, a gay activist and anti-apartheid campaigner, who fought tirelessly for freedom, equality and social justice.

Cape Town Pride has identified the need for a community centre aimed at providing a home and safe space for our diverse LGBTI+ community to gather, meet and mix with like-minded people – with special emphasis on the often-over-looked needs of the silver seniors in the community.

In light of this, Cape Town Pride has been in negotiations with the City of Cape Town, and Provincial as well as National Government and other stake-holders, to secure a suitable premises. One has been identified and Pride has been in contact with the owner who is supportive of the project and its aims.

However, the property is in dire need of renovation in order for it to be fit for purpose.

The pandemic did put a spoke in the works as the City of Cape Town and other players attention was diverted by Covid-19.

To achieve this goal in getting the Nkoli House Project up and running, we NEED to raise a lot of money.

Fund raisers have been held, such as the Pride Proms last year, but the cost of putting on the event and one of the sponsors withdrawing their support after the event meant that the funds raised were minimal and we were back to square one.

We have put out appeals to the international LGBTI+ funders and Prides around the world, through InterPride (of which Cape Town Pride is a member) for their help.

Hopefully, this year will see the proceeds of a number of Pride events, such as the Cape Town Pride Proms 2023, and the Hero Awards will go towards the Nkoli House Project.

It does not matter how small your donation is – every amount matters.

Pride is hoping to have this funding in place during the course of 2023 and have the ear-marked property secured this year as well.

There are a number of requirements which need to be satisfied, both legal and social, but the Project is on track.

PRIDE VOLUNTEERS

Cape Town Pride doesn't happen without the fabulous effort from our community who volunteer ... So if Pride is for you, then climb on board for the wild ride that is Cape Town Pride!

Cape Town Pride is run by volunteers. Some of us work on short-term projects or campaigns – and some of us work all year round as part of the core team. Taking part is an incredible experience and we’ d love you to join the team.

The group of volunteers every year are passionate about equality and diversity and 2023 is no different, in fact this year the response to the volunteer appeal has been nothing short of fantastic. We are a not-for-profit organisation, so those peoplin the community who put their names forward to help out at the Pride events are true heroes.

Together, we run what we believe is the best and most diverse pride in the country. The purpose is to make sure we provide a platform for every part of Cape Town’s LGBTQ+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer, questioning, intersex, non-binary, asexual, polysexual, genderqueer and gender variant people) to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow them to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.

From the opening party on Friday 10th February, to the annual Parade through Green Point and the festival Mardi Gras, everything Pride and the volunteers do is designed to give LGBTQ+ people a platform to be visible and speak loudly to the rest of the city about what we have achieved, how far we have come and what is still needed to be achieved ... and we are making progress, albeit in small steps, take the new Rainbow crossing in de Waterkant ... People in our community have been fighting for this for years!!!

Cape Town Pride includes people of every race and faith, whether disabled or able-bodied, and all sexualities and genders including lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, queer, questioning, intersex, trans*, genderqueer, gender variant or non-binary as well as straight and cis allies.

Our volunteer to help us deliver a world-class Pride. We are already a pretty diverse bunch, but we are looking to add to our diversity.
