Ouse Burn Crossings Roger Broughton This is based on a website documenting a journey down the Ouse Burn photographing all the crossings. I have to take the dog "Bobby" for a walk every day, and normally I pick up litter. I made this journey to have a bit of variety, it took 5 days beginning 7th February 2012, I revisited several crossings in September that year after 1018mm rainfall and have included additional notes over the last couple of years. Bobby is in many of the photographs, he is a white/brown/black Welsh Collie. He is normally in front, never on a lead, but when he comes to a choice of ways to go he stops for me to indicate which way by a wave of an arm. Before we begin the journey we look at a sculpture on the City Stadium This is The Ouseburn Monument. It is two tapered half tubes back to back joined by a wiggly bit of metal surrounded by an oval kerb. The wiggly bit of metal represents the Ouse Burn, which is actually flowing about 35m below the monument in the culvert below. On the kerb are names of places the Burn flows through: Callerton, Woolsington, Brunton, Jesmond Dene and Ouseburn Valley.
The journey begins in Northumberland near Callerton Village. 1
