CURRICULUM STATEMENT

.

Our vision at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School is to provide the highest quality of education within a Catholic ethos. We will provide an inclusive education for all where creativity, diversity and personality are allowed to blossom and thrive and where independence, motivation and perseverance become life- long skills. Through the love of God, we will nurture individual uniqueness, treating others with the utmost respect at all times, working hard using the talents God has given us for the good of other people and to achieve our best. At Our Lady of the Rosary, we will nurture a strong learning partnership between home, school, parish and our wider community. We aim to ensure pupils enjoy learning and feel prepared for life after school. We also intend to offer our pupils new and exciting experiences through extra-curricular activities that are designed to build resilience, confidence and self-esteem.

SUBJECT RATIONALE

Developing children’s curiosity and understanding of maths is critical at Our Lady of the Rosary. Our maths curriculum aims to provide pupils with the mathematical tools and knowledge to use contextuality in their everyday life; a network of concepts and relationships which provide a way of viewing and making sense of the world.

Our teaching of the subject is tailored towards students becoming fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics. Through this, our children develop the conceptual understanding and ability to recall and apply rapidly and accurately.

PROGRESSION OF SKILLS

This document outline the progression of Maths skills and knowledge from EYFS to Y6. This version shows where particular statements are covered and built upon.

WHAT DOES AN OLRS MATHS LESSON LOOK LIKE?

Maths lessons will begin with retrieval questions to recap on previous learning and what knowledge the pupils have committed to their long term memory. Teachers will look at any new vocabulary. As a school, we use the CPA approach and this will be evident in lessons. Children will be able to explain their reasoning of their mathematical concepts that they are learning.

ENRICHMENT

The children use Timetables Rockstars across the school in various different competitions. We also compete against other schools in the area over holiday periods to sustain their learning.

Children are invited to partake in various maths competitions throughout the school

These experiences enhance their love of maths and learning.
