Since 1987, Our Friends Place has helped young women break generational cycles of abuse, neglect, poverty, and homelessness through empowering self-reliance and independence.

OUR PROGRAMS

Our award-winning Transitional Living Center (TLC) program provides a supportive home for young women who have experienced homelessness, lived in chaos, or aged out of foster care. Young women in the TLC program are required to be enrolled in class, be employed at a steady job, pay a portion of their earnings to rent and to their own savings account, and attend weekly Life Skills Lessons. Life Skills topics range from financial literacy, resume building, interview skills, conflict resolution, goal setting, good study habits, and healthy relationships to other aspects of healthy adult living.

SOAR to Success is our non-residential prevention program that brings the Life Skills Lessons out of the TLCs and into high schools, colleges, and partner programs around North Texas.

SOAR to Success is a mentoring program for young women teaching the life skills needed to build their own Strengths, Opportunities, Allies, and Resiliency to prevent them from experiencing homelessness.

Welcome, and thank you for joining us for the 2021 Our Friends Place Gala, Auction & Casino Night. It has been an honor and privilege to act as your chair for this signature fundraising event benefiting the young women that Our Friends Place programs impact. Of course, this was far from being a one-man show. The commonly used cliche “it takes a village” is so very accurate in what it took to pull together the details of tonight’s experiences. Thank you to the countless hours donated by volunteers, donations from our sponsors, underwriters, and each of those who have provided goods and services to the success of the auctions and tonight’s experiences. Every minute of volunteer time, every dollar, in-kind donation, and each contribution of goods or services is vital in helping Our Friends Place fulfill its mission.

Our hope is this event not only enriches everyone tonight, but that the stories from our alumni stars inspire you to remain connected and continue to partner with Our Friends Place throughout the year, and that tonight’s experience has a lasting positive impact on you. Enjoy the night among stars!

Ebby Award Winners NETTA G. BLANCHARD Netta is a Lifetime Trustee and Founding Executive Director of The Ireland Funds Dallas. As a result of a very special friendship with Sister Pauline Mullen, Netta used her connections to secure a large portion of the funds needed to open Our Friends Place’s second Transitional Living Center—Pauline’s Place. Because of Netta’s work to gather community support for this center, Our Friends Place was able to double the capacity of the Transitional Living Center program for young women in need of housing and support in North Texas. Her legacy will make an impact for generations.

Our Friends Place proudly presents the Ebby Award annually to recognize individuals or companies and organizations who have made significant contributions or achievements for the advancement of girls and women in North Texas.

fundraiser, the Chi Omega Christmas Market, has distributed more than $9 million to 120 deserving Dallas area nonprofit organizations. Chi Omega Christmas Market is staffed solely by Dallas area Chi Omega alumnae and collegians who provide 2,500 woman-hours of volunteer work annually to support organizations who serve fields of Arts, Civic, Education, Health, and Welfare. Chi Omega Christmas Market has created a legacy by funding agencies who specialize in children's and women's issues. Additionally, the Market funds four to eight scholarships each year to Dallas area sophomore and junior Chi Omega collegians.

The Ebby Award is named after Ebby Halliday Acers, the award’s first recipient in 2005, for her commitment and contributions to women in our community.
