WELCOME FROM VINCE OTOUPAL Do you feel it? This is an exciting time at Cal State Monterey Bay Athletics. CSUMB is a very impressive place. Since arriving here, I have had a number of conversations with student-athletes, coaches, and friends of Otter Athletics around this theme. Together WE can create a Culture of Success, both in the classroom and in the venue of competition. I want to thank you for your continued and future support. The Otter Backers is the “Team behind the Teams” that provides the much needed scholarship funds that allow our student-athletes the opportunities to attend and compete for CSUMB. Private funding is critical to our success and your attendance tonight shows the value you hold for Otter Athletics and your Otter student-athletes. Our Culture of Success will be built by you - the people who show dedication, passion, and support at all levels. The CSUMB Athletics Department Team - our coaches, student athletes, administration, parents, friends and boosters – will develop this culture as CSUMB Athletics evolves to be academic and athletic leaders in the CCAA and California State University system. Together WE can accomplish our goals of academic and athletic success. The Otters will Play Hard, Play Fair, and Play to Win! Winning is central to the core philosophy of athletics. Putting the fine coaches and student-athletes of CSUMB in the best possible position to succeed will be the everyday focus of the Athletic Department. I invite you to “Commit to the Otters” and continue to join us this year to cheer for the CSUMB Otter student-athletes as they strive for victory. This is your chance to see how your support has helped our student-athletes in so many ways. For a listing of upcoming competition dates and times, please visit www.otterathletics.com. Once again, all of us at CSUMB thank you for your attendance and passion for Otter Athletics. Go Otters!

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Women’s Basketball reaches out to help “Read for the Record” Prior to the season, members of the women’s basketball team spent time reading to preschoolers at the Monterey Public Library as a part of the “Read for the Record” event sponsored by Jumpstart, a national non-profit organization pairing college students with at-risk preschool children with a focus on building literacy.
“Being part of CSUMB women’s basketball is about giving back and we were excited to have the opportunity to work with the Monterey Public Library and Jumpstart,” said head coach Renee Jimenez. “I think we have created a great partnership for years to come. It is important to us as a university, athletic department and basketball program to give back to a community that has welcomed us.”
Men’s Basketball promotes “Red Ribbon Week” This fall members of the men’s basketball team visited the third, fourth and fifth graders at George C. Marshall Elementary School to promote the Red Ribbon Week, the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans. “Red Ribbon Week is a chance for the players in our program to get out and interact with the elementary school kids at Marshall school,” said head coach Rob Bishop. “I feel this was a good opportunity to give back to some of the youth in our area and hopefully next year, we will be able to speak at more schools and talk to more kids.”
SPORTS CAMPS
Cal State Monterey Bay Athletics is committed to offering an exceptional camp experience for all ages, interests and skill levels. The CSUMB staff, coaches and student-athletes will provide a quality and safe learning environment where campers can improve athletic skills, develop friendships, and learn lessons in leadership, teamwork, and responsibility.
A special partnership between CSUMB Athletics and AT&T Pebble Beach Charities provides free sport clinics to local youth ages 5-14 throughout the year. A grant from AT&T Pebble Beach Charities provides the financial support for the staffing and equipment needs of the program. These clinics feature CSUMB coaches and student-athletes providing training on fundamentals, techniques and strategy for boys and girls. Camps and clinics are offered for baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and waterpolo at the CSUMB athletic facilities. For a current sports camp and clinic schedule please visit

WOMEN’S COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH RENEE JIMENEZ
Renee Jimenez was named the sixth head coach in the history of Cal State Monterey Bay women’s basketball on June 12, 2008. Jimenez served three years as an assistant coach at San Diego State (2005-2008) for head coach Beth Burns. She assisted a major turn around for an Aztec program that had three wins in 2005-06 to a team that finished 18-13 overall in 2007-08 and narrowly missed the NCAA tournament. The Aztec’s improvement that year also included a spot in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game. Prior to joining the Aztec coaching staff, Jimenez spent one year at Stanford University serving as staff intern for head coach Tara VanDerveer and the nationally prominent Cardinal women’s basketball program. The Ventura native played three seasons at San Francisco State (2001-04), finishing her career as the Gators’ all-time leader in three-point field goals. A two year team captain at SFSU, she also set two school records including most three-pointers made in a season (62). Prior to SFSU, Jimenez competed for head coach Ned Mircetic at Ventura College, helping the Pirates to the 2001 state junior college championship. MEN’S COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH ROB BISHOP
Rob Bishop was named the sixth head coach in the history of Cal State Monterey Bay men’s basketball on June 12, 2008. Bishop arrived at CSUMB after serving as an assistant coach for Mike Adras at Northern Arizona University since 2002. During his tenure, the Lumberjacks won two Big Sky Conference regular season titles and made an NIT berth. He coached five NAU squads into postseason action, including four Big Sky Championship game appearances in 2003-04, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08, while tutoring 13 players to all-conference accolades. No stranger to the California Collegiate Athletics Association, Bishop spent six seasons (19962002) as an assistant coach for coaching legend, Puck Smith, at his alma mater Chico State. He is married to the former Holly Morris. They have two daughters, Courtney (6) and Ashley (2). The Lumberjacks enjoyed their finest season during his tenure in 2005-06, winning the Big Sky Conference regular season title and tying the school record for wins with 21. NAU advanced to the conference championship game and earned the fifth national postseason berth in school history by hosting a first-round NIT game. The Lumberjacks repeated as Big Sky Conference regular season champs in 2006-07, advancing to the conference championship game again.
