Season Summary

Joanne Harfield

Hey Everyone,

The Social Section has been busy over the last couple of months in regard to Club events. We had Linda and Rob selling meat raffle tickets on 23 April, congrats to all the lucky winners!

Upcoming Events

Saturday 22 July Quiz Night – Bogan Bingo

Saturday 29 July The Chain

Saturday 26 August Cancer Council High Tea

Saturday 2 September 1970s Party

Sunday 3 September Fathers Day

We also had volunteers at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service on 25 April. A HUGE thank you to our BBQ Kings, Silvio Delfino, Paul Thompson and David ‘Scruffy’ Lockhart who helped the RSL Volunteers and Paula cook up bacon and egg rolls for everybody who attended the service. It was a huge effort starting at 4:30am. Not only did the boys help cook, but they also stood in the rain until 9am to help serve them to all those who attended. Just when I thought they were done, they cooked up a lunchtime sausage sizzle for everyone who hung around to play some 2up.

Sheila (who is also our Club’s Secretary) ran her Quiz Night on 3 May straight after Jag the Joker and Chase the Ace draw down in the Hall. The winners of the May quiz were ‘Clueless’ who often dominate the Quiz Nights run by Sheila. The winners received $50 on their member card.

I’d also like to do a quick shout-out to one of our Club Members, Tarryn Richardson who owns the florist company ‘Sonny & Willow’ for kindly donating a dried floral arrangement along with some goodies as a door prize for the Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, 14 May, that was a lovely surprise for our attendees. You can shop the beautiful Sonny & Willow collection via www.sonnyandwillow.com. Tarryn also offers delivery across the metro area.

As always, I’d like to thank our amazing Social Committee who generously donate their time so we can all have a great day and to all our members and guests who always show the utmost respect for our volunteers.

Upcoming Events

The next Social Section event will be Bogan Bingo, on Saturday 22 July. This is the event I am most excited about. We get to dress up in our best flanno’s, trackies and ugg boots, the perfect event to see us through the winter months! There will be prizes for best dressed as well as several other games played throughout the night. Not to mention Bogan Bingo is known for its comedy and great Australian soundtrack! We’ll also have plenty of prizes up for grabs – inspired by the Bogan lifestyle!

Sheila’s next Quiz Night is on Wednesday 5 July, starting at 7pm in the Club Hall. Grab a table between 2 to 6 people. Be sure to get down early to secure a spot!

Following Bogan Bingo, we’ll be headed ‘Back to the Races’ for Spring Carnival, we don’t have a date for you yet, but we hope to provide one on the Social board in the main bar soon so you can start planning your outfits. Spring Carnival is extremely popular and is the perfect excuse to get all dressed up in your best suit or dress and fascinator! Also a good warm-up for the Club’s Melbourne Cup Day!
