Advance Open Water Qualifications for Two Dive Section Members. Congratulations!
Highlights
Graham Hindley has had the pleasure of qualifying two dive section members, Peter & Ryan Hawker in Advance Open Water Scuba Diving-Padi.
The journey began with 2 dives off the Busselton Jetty in December 2022, a night dive and morning dive. The two participants were accompanied by half the dive section-no pressure!!!
They were calm but excited, cool but with anticipation, the Dive Master Graeme Hindley observing their skills and technique graciously as we all clambered down the length of the Jetty, Rattle and Hum comes to mind- the sounds of all trollies loaded with dive gear trundling along the Jetty. 11 divers were pondering if they had forgotten anything, it was a long run back to the car to retrieve an item! i.e. weight belts, batteries for torches, dive boots and hoods. Thankfully the good old share the spare and the bag of cable ties came into play, everyone had a successful dive.
Upcoming Events
Dive section End of Year function – River CruiseFremantle up the Swan River and back.
Overseas Dive trip to Nusa Penida and Bali. This was booked and deposited in 2019 pre the hit of COVID restrictions at a Scuba Junkie Resort-Bali. The company have honoured the deposits, which the section members will now enjoy at the end of July, followed by some RNR in Seminyak for a few days.
The two candidates had fun with torches on the night dive, the visibility was good, UV light versus torch light, how many torches can one need!! They had a great dive in near-perfect conditions with the bloodred moon putting on a spectacular show for the journey back across the jetty. The bright sunshine on the following morning allowed the sea floor to reveal her hidden treasures, fishing lures, dropped torches, knives and odds and sods. The new divers were fondly nicknamed “The Sea Scavengers”!!!
Their next qualifying dive was in Navigation and Recovery, not everyone’s favourite, this took place at Hillary’s Boat Harbour, on the north side of the groin. This was followed with a dive on the Wreck Trail at Point Peron, where they also were able to demonstrate their Scuba Diving Skills. The conditions were fantastic, lots of fun for all. With the final qualifying dive, a deep dive, to 30mtrs, North of Mindarie Marina.

Great team effort in supporting the candidates to achieve this fantastic lifelong skill.
Congratulation Peter(dad) and Ryan(son) Hawker, welcome board!
Past Events (last month)
The last two months have been very quiet due to adverse weather conditions for diving, some short shallow dives were had by a few brave enough or with plenty of time on their hands.
