NAFCU/PAC Pals Program

N

ow more than ever credit unions are facing ongoing regulatory challenges and political pressures that are comprehensive and evolving. To address these challenges, ORNL Federal Credit Union is taking an active role by supporting the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ Political Action Committee, often referred to as NAFCU/PAC.

The NAFCU/PAC supports candidates and congressional members who: • Understand the good works credit unions do in their communities • Are active with their local credit unions The Federal Election Commission states that only individuals can make political contributions to a candidate or member of Congress, so to fund the NAFCU/PAC’s important work, NAFCU created the NAFCU/PAC Pals Program, which involves selling PAC Pals to generate lobbying funds. Throughout the year, ORNL Federal Credit Union will be selling PAC Pals for $5.00 in our branches with the funds going to support the NAFCU/PAC. These bears are a symbol of our commitment to keeping the credit union movement healthy and strong at the government level. In 2012, over $230,000 worth of PAC Pals were sold to credit union members and it was one of the most successful years of the program. 97% of contributions made in the 2012 election cycle were used on winning races, helping to elect and re-elect pro-credit union members of Congress. Political action and advocacy are two of the most powerful tools that credit unions have to educate Congress about issues that affect them and with your support, our voice will be heard!
