MID EAST TENNESSEE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION MERGES WITH ORNL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) recently awarded ORNL Federal Credit Union (ORNL FCU) a merger with Mid East Tennessee Community Credit Union (MET Com). MET Com had branches located in Athens and Decatur, a membership base of approximately 1,550, and $10.3 million in total assets. The merger was effective July 31, 2020. MET Com is now ORNL FCU. This merger expands ORNL FCU’s community charter to include Meigs, McMinn, and Rhea counties, which are all contiguous to the Credit Union’s current 16 county charter area. With the merger, ORNL FCU acquired the two former MET Com branches which will be remodeled to reflect the ORNL FCU brand. Current MET Com employees were also retained.

Prior to the merger, approximately 2,000 ORNL FCU members lived near the two MET Com branches, located at 103 Washington Avenue in Athens and 17640 State Highway 58 in Decatur. Now, over 3,500 members will have more access to the full suite of mortgage and consumer loan products, deposit products, and digital services offered

by ORNL FCU.

NOMINEES SELECTED BY THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE:

CANDIDATES FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS SELECTED, BOARD PETITIONS NOW AVAILABLE On Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 6:00 PM, ORNL Federal Credit Union will hold the 2021 Annual Meeting of the Membership at the Northshore Branch. All members are invited to attend as reports from the Board of Directors’ Chair and Treasurer will be shared along with the newly appointed Board of Directors’ members.

There are three positions on the Board of Directors to be filled in 2021, each for a three-year term. The members of this year’s Nominating Committee, chaired by Board Member Harriet Walker, have submitted the names of three candidates for the positions to be filled: Randy Gorman, Jama Hill, and Leigha Witt.

Biographical information for each nominee is on page three in alphabetical order.

for persons interested in running for one of the three ORNL Federal Credit Union open Board seats. Each nominee

*INCUMBENT DIRECTOR, NOMINATED TO FILL A THREE-YEAR TERM RANDY GORMAN* Retired from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory after 39 years of service, concluding his tenure as the Manager of Program Systems Support in the Nuclear and Radiological Protection Division. Holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Served for six years on the ORNL FCU Supervisory Committee before joining the Board of Directors in 2006. Appointed Vice Chair of the ORNL FCU Board in 2014 and Chair of the Board in 2016. Currently serves on ORNL FCU’s Executive Committee (Chair), Legislative & Governmental Affairs Committee, Volunteer Policy & Governance Committee, and SERP Investment Committee.

Previously served on the Nominating & Election Committee. For the past 10 years, has been a Governor of the Credit Union’s Service Organization (CUSO), 7, LLC. Member of ORNL FCU for over 37 years.

Persons using a Petition to run for a seat will be required to obtain 500 signatures of ORNL FCU members age 18 or older. A signed certificate stating that he or she is agreeable to nomination and will serve if elected to office must accompany each Petition Application. Once all Petitions and Petition Applications have been received and validated, members will be notified in writing of all Nominating Committee and Petition candidates who are interested in running for the three available positions on the Board of Directors. If no Petitions are received, an election will not be conducted because the number of Nominees and the number of Board positions to be filled are equal. If there are more than three candidates and an election is to be held, the three candidates with the most votes will fill the three available three-year term positions. The voting period will be held March 4–11, 2021 and the three candidates with the most votes will be announced at the Annual Meeting.

JAMA HILL* Currently the US ITER Business Manager at UT Battelle, LLC for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Tennessee Technological University. Over 40 years of experience in budgeting, accounting, and managing multi-billion dollar projects. Served on the ORNL FCU Supervisory Committee for one year prior to being elected to the ORNL FCU Board of Directors in 2003, and has served as Board Treasurer since 2012. Currently serves on the Volunteer Policy & Governance Committee. Previously served on the Executive Committee, Retirement Plans & Investments Committee, and Asset Liability & Investment Committee. Member of ORNL Federal Credit Union for over 40 years.

LEIGHA WITT* Group Manager with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) since December 2019. Previously employed by ORNL FCU as a Branch Manager before joining UT-Battelle in 2005, having managed the Protocol & Community Relations office and serving as a Human Resources Manager. Holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and will complete a Master’s of Professional Studies (concentration in HR Leadership) from Tennessee Tech in the fall of 2020. Elected to the ORNL FCU Board of Directors in 2006 and currently serves on the Legislative & Governmental Affairs Committee and Volunteer Policy & Governance Committee. Previously volunteered on the Nominating & Election Committee. Serves on the boards for Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation, Explore Oak Ridge, Roane Alliance, Roane State Foundation (Chair), and the Oak Ridge Fund for Achieving Community Excellence.

ORNL FCU SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TO UTK Each year, through the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) general scholarship fund, we award scholarships to deserving students/members with excellence in education and social merit. The scholarships provide $1,000 toward the cost of tuition, books, and other school-related expenses.

A minimum of two (2) scholarships are awarded annually: one B.A. Candler Scholarship and one John McKittrick Scholarship.

For the 2020-2021 school year, ORNL FCU awarded six scholarships. Recipients of the B.A. Candler Scholarships were Paulina Urbanowicz, Anna Lynn, and Hannah Greenwood. Autumn Arsenault, Isabelle Toth, and Amanda McDonald were awarded the John McKittrick Scholarships.

INTERESTED IN APPLYING? We are now accepting applications for the B.A. Candler and John McKittrick scholarships to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the 2021-2022 school year. Members can find the application online at ornlfcu.com or an application can be picked up at any branch location. Only members of ORNL FCU and their immediate families who are pursuing a 4-year degree at UTK are eligible to compete for these scholarships.

All applicants must also complete a FAFSA Form for federal student aid coded for the University of Tennessee. This form must be filed by February 1, 2021.

Applicants are selected by the UT General Scholarship Committee and will be notified directly by the University of Tennessee Financial Aid Office by late May or early June.

WITHOLDING NOTICE (IRS FORM 2317)

To IRA Account Holders with Periodic Distributions: Payments from your IRA are subject to federal income tax withholding, unless you elect no withholding.

You may change your withholding election at any time prior to your receipt of a payment. To change your withholding election, complete the appropriate form provided by your financial organization.

Withholding from IRA payments, when combined with other withholding, MAY relieve you from payment of estimated income taxes. However, your withholding election does not affect the amount of income tax you pay.

You may incur penalties under the estimated tax rules if your withholding and estimated tax payments are insufficient.
