ver the past few years, I have had the pleasure of reporting outstanding growth and performance and, once again, I am pleased to report the same for 2005. This string of excellent reports is due largely to our staff’s continuing efforts to improve the value, convenience and quality of our service.

Combined with an aggressive plan to reach out to our communities with new and improved branch facilities in 2005, this continuous improvement effort is attracting members in increasing numbers. As evidence, this past year produced a 10% increase in our membership. At year-end, total membership was 109,840, a net increase of 10,120 members during 2005.

Loan and deposit growth for the year was extremely strong, as well. From consumer loans to mortgage and business lending, loans outstanding grew $99.99 million, or 16.61%, to finish the year at $702.13 million. Deposits grew by $82.79 million, or 12.78%. At year-end, our deposits totaled $730.7 million. All of this growth produced a large jump in our total assets, which grew by $107 million, or 13.8%, to a year-end total of $879 million.

Along with this across-the-board financial growth, ORNL Federal Credit Union’s image and reputation throughout our 16-county community grew substantially, too. For example, we are proud to have earned the designation in 2005 as East Tennessee’s Best Credit Union by both the Knoxville News Sentinel and the Oak Ridger’s readers’ polls.

As our major focus since receiving our community charter in 2002, we have made many branch improvements and additions. During 2005, we took additional steps in that direction. Early in the year, our Main Branch office in Oak Ridge

underwent its first major remodeling since opening in 1987. The upgrade resulted in better internal traffic flow and a friendlier and more comfortable environment for members.

Our East Knoxville Branch also underwent renovations in 2005 to better serve the increasing number of members visiting that office. A teller line and additional staff were added to ensure that quality service is being delivered to our members in the East Knoxville area.

As part of our initiative to improve convenient access for our increasing membership, three new branches were opened in 2005. A new South Knoxville area branch opened in July, a new West Knoxville area branch located within Food City’s new Middlebrook Pike store opened in November and, a month later, ORNL FCU moved into Sevier County when our branch opened in Sevierville at 502 Dolly Parton Parkway.

More recently, we acquired space within the Kroger store located at 6702 Clinton Highway, across from the Powell Wal-Mart Super Center. This new in-store branch opened on January 9, 2006, and is ORNL Federal Credit Union’s 20th branch.

We also introduced and enhanced several products and services during 2005. Early in the year, ORNL FCU teamed up with the Tennessee Conference Community Development, Inc., (TCCD) to offer financial assistance to low-to-moderateincome families with first-time home purchases.

The “People Helping People” Affordable Housing Program is a joint effort between ORNL FCU and TCCD collaborating with the City of Knoxville, Federal Home Loan Bank, Fannie Mae and the

Knox Housing Partnership. The program is designed for families who may not be eligible to purchase a home under standard mortgage program guidelines but are financially capable of repaying a mortgage loan.

In mid-November, we introduced the VISA™ Gift Card, a pre-paid card that can be used anywhere VISA debit cards are accepted, including retail stores and online merchants. During the holiday season, hundreds of members quickly took advantage of the security, online personalization and activity tracking that the gift cards offer. We expect that these cards will continue in popularity as members use them for birthdays, graduations and other personal events.

Later on in the month, to the delight of our members, 50 years old and over, we responded to requests from those who use our Senior Checking Account by changing it to a dividend-earning account.

The year 2005 was also exceptional in terms of new and improved electronic services.

Late in the year, ORNL Federal Credit Union purchased new equipment to replace the servers hosting our Cyberbranch:™ Telephone Access service. In early 2006, the upgrade to the new system will be complete and members will benefit from its timesaving features.

Members who view and pay their bills online found that an upgrade, implemented in early May 2005 to our Web Bill Pay service, made it easier and more convenient to use.

The look was changed to a more easily browsed and viewed site via one central page for paying bills. Other added features include same or next-day payment processing and e-mail reminders that bills are due or have been paid.

Online identity theft continued to be a major issue throughout 2005. It is one of the fastest growing crimes in the country. Piracy scams, such as “phishing,” affected more than 400,000 people last year. To provide members with a resource for up-to-date information on fraud and theft, a fraud alert link was included on our website at www.ornlfcu.com in September. It contains valuable information on how to protect yourself from online scams and what to do if you fall victim to fraud. Your credit union will continue to use this and other communications and reminders to assist our membership in avoiding online piracy.

The Affinity Title Company, founded by ORNL Federal Credit Union in 2004 to handle mortgage closings for members and to provide title insurance on those mortgages, completed its first full year of service. Affinity was able to provide prompt attention to each loan, permitting us to offer members quicker mortgage closings.

The success of this effort is causing us to look into other related areas of business that may be offered through a Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO) similar to the one created to operate Affinity.

ORNL Federal Credit Union and its employees’ commitment to community involvement came full circle in 2005 as we began our second year — continued on page 4 —

as Presenting Sponsor of the Dogwood Arts Festival.

We are proud to be part of an event that not only brings the community together but also gives back to area schools in the form of arts education and provides financial support to organizations, such as the Kidney Foundation and the Mission of Hope.

The participation of credit union employees in charitable organizations continues to increase each and every year. For example, in 2005, employee contributions resulted in over $25,000 in donations to United Way. Employees also participated in events for the March of Dimes, Buddy’s Race Against Cancer, the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and countless others.

We are most proud of the generosity of our employees as they give their time to the many worthwhile organizations that serve our community.

In 2005, ORNL Federal Credit Union fostered another phase in helping area schools by partnering with Austin-East Magnet High School to make plans to open the first student-run school credit union in the area. The studentrun credit union is part of a new curriculum, the Academy of Finance, adopted by Austin-East. This program allows students an opportunity to learn every aspect of finance, from balancing a checkbook to operating their own business. With great fanfare, the student credit union opened on February 14, 2006.

Other school related involvement includes the beginning of our fourteenth year offering the B.A. Candler/ORNL FCU Scholarship to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. One deserving student each year receives $1,000 toward school

related expenses. And, of course, we continue as a participant in the Partners-In-Education Program in Anderson and Knox counties.

Concluding another prosperous year for your credit union, ORNL FCU’s Board of Directors declared a special bonus dividend, totaling approximately $1.3 million, paid on members’ average total deposits during 2005. In declaring the bonus dividend, the board noted that 2005 was another exceptional year and this was one way of sharing our success with all of the members who made it possible. ORNL FCU has paid back almost six million dollars in the last four years to its members in the form of bonus dividends.

Over the next few years, your credit union will work to improve convenient access to our services into each of the 16 counties making up our Central East Tennessee community. In 2006, we plan to continue expansion of our branch network.

Future branch sites are currently under review, and announcements of locations are forthcoming in the early months of 2006.

As we have commented in the past, the remarkable success of our credit union would not be possible without the loyalty and continued support of our member-owners.

A. Welcome. The 57th Annual Meeting of the ORNL Federal Credit Union (operating under NCUA Charter No. 5797) was called to order at 7:30PM by Mason Oakes, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Members of Boy Scout Troop, No. 328, under the leadership of Bill Mills, displayed colors and led the pledge of allegiance. Scouts were Senior Patrol Leader Dylan Ripley, John Asher, Alex Gass, Bryan Mills, Daniel Schlanker, Sam Snodgrass, Owen Worley and Sam Worley. Second-grade students from our partner-in-education, Woodland Elementary School, sang the national anthem and a few other songs.

The group was under the direction of music teacher, Susie Carden. Soloists were Laura Budai, Bradley Durand, Riley Myer and Samantha Wray.

A. Report of the Nominating Committee. Members of the committee were Jama Hill, Chairman; Mary Beth Blair and Frank Kolski. Hill referred to the Committee’s report as published in the 2004 Annual Report. Nominees were Herb Debban, Mike Golden, Wanda McCrosky, Mason Oakes and Alan Proctor.

Mason Oakes introduced President/CEO John D. McKittrick, current board members and members of the Supervisory Committee. He thanked members of other committees and volunteers, as listed in the printed report. He stated that the purposes of the meeting were to elect board members, report to the membership and award prizes.

C. Supervisory Committee.

Chairman Randy Gorman highlighted the committee’s printed report. He stated that most significant was the external audit report provided by McGladrey and Pullen for the 2004 operating year. They are CPAs headquartered in Dallas and Boston, whom we hired to provide an independent opinion of our financial health. The oral report had been presented to us, and the written report was in process. No material weakness or error was found by the auditor.

Reports A 14-minute audio-visual presentation on the credit union’s activities during 2004 was shown. Oakes thanked Larry Jones and members of the Marketing Department for producing the audio-visual report.

A. Chairman. Mason Oakes referred to the printed report and to the audio-visual presentation. He said we had had a good year and extended big thanks to management and staff who had really carried the ball for the credit union. He called for questions, but there were none.

B. Treasurer. Marcella Catron agreed with Oakes that this had been a good year for the credit union. She referred to the printed report and called for questions. A member, Betty Osborne, had a question regarding the new locations that are being built and established. She wondered whether these new locations pay for themselves with the new members that they get.

John McKittrick replied that $15 million in growth came from new members and that our new members came from our new locations.

Frank Kolski conducted the drawing, assisted by Marcella Catron and Jama Hill.

Twenty-nine cash prizes totaling $1,500 were awarded by drawing names of attending members from a barrel. Also awarded was a $1,500 Travel Gift Certificate from American Express World Travel in Knoxville.

Gorman stated that the committee had observed that the internal audit function continued to be effective.

The Supervisory Committee had added a member who brought extensive experience from his professional duties in a private law practice and at ORNL. Also, the committee had completed a self-training program using the Credit Union National Association’s Ready Reference book as a basis. Gorham called for questions; there were none.

Gorman congratulated McCrosky, Oakes and Debban on their election.

B. Quorum Determination. There were 456 members present, more than enough to constitute a quorum.
