Amy Johnston, Executive Director
Amy has been with the Foundation since its early days in 2014, when it was a small organization with a big dream. She believes deeply in the power of community and has played a key role in shaping OCF into the thriving organization it is today. In her free time, Amy loves to travel, read, and spend time with her husband and their two (almost) grown children.
Andrew King, Program Coordinator
Andrew has worked as OCF’s Program Coordinator since 2017. As the organization’s second ever employee, he is immensely proud of the work OCF continues to do to provide a wide range of support services for cancer patients in our community. When not at work, Andrew is an avid birdwatcher, and enjoys exploring all Eugene has to offer with his wife.
Damon Garner, Development Coordinator
Having joined the foundation just months before the pandemic, Damon brings decades of retail and event management experience to his work at OCF. His expertise in creating strong relationships and driving successful operations has been instrumental in enhancing our fundraising efforts and expanding our reach. When not overseeing OCF events, Damon can be found cheering on the Ducks from the stands.

About My Breast Friends 5K FROM KELLY BARTON, FOUNDER
I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer January 8, 2018. While walking with a friend, I was discussing how I should celebrate the end of chemo. I had been an avid runner for the last 8 years and participated in many local 5K's and 10K's. My friend reminded me that I

OVER $120,000 RAISED
had mentioned at one point that it was secretly a dream of mine to plan a 5K event. The wheels started turning and we came up with the idea of “My Breast Friends 5K”.
I knew I wanted to benefit local cancer patients, so I reached out to the Oregon Cancer Foundation. Planning the event was a great way to take my mind off of what I was going through. It gave me something exciting to look forward to at the end of my chemo treatments.
Through connecting with the Oregon Cancer Foundation, I found an amazing support system. The Support Groups, the Survivorship Series and friendships I made with other cancer survivors have been the biggest blessing.

PATIENT SPOTLIGHT
Each season, we highlight someone in our community who is an inspiration to those affected by cancer.
Eva L.
"Now, I stop to smell the roses, kayak in beautiful places, spend time with family and friends, and focus on being fully present."
Can you tell us a little about your cancer story?
In the fall of 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. During treatment, doctors discovered I also have lung cancer—unrelated to the breast cancer. Thanks to current research, I’m able to take a TKI drug that helps keep my lung cancer in check, though it is not a cure.
What helps you get through the most challenging moments?
Friends, family, and my cancer support groups have helped me through some of the most challenging moments. Learning from other survivors has given me both inspiration and strength. Dark humor has also played a huge role in helping me cope with fear and the many ways cancer treatment has affected my body and mind.
How has your perspective of life changed since your diagnosis?
I’ve come to understand the importance of finding joy and happiness in the present moment—not just as something to look forward to in the future. For much of my life, I was focused on planning ahead, waiting for retirement (still years away), and prioritizing the needs of others over my own. Now, I stop to smell the roses, kayak in beautiful places, spend time with family and friends, and focus on being fully present.
What role did the Oregon Cancer Foundation play in your journey?
The Oregon Cancer Foundation (OCF) offered me my first sense of concrete hope during one of the most terrifying times of my life. Our visits with doctors and surgeons are often brief, followed by

long days and weeks of uncertainty and difficult decisions. OCF stepped in to help me find current research, connect with local resources, and join support groups. They were there not only when I was newly diagnosed with breast cancer but also as I navigated the complicated path of lung cancer. They helped me seek second opinions, address insurance issues, and take medical leave from work. OCF stood by me through the hardest days of my life. I knew I wasn’t alone—they understood the magnitude of the decisions I was facing. Their support gave me hope and served as a guiding light through my darkest moments.
What advice would you share with someone newly diagnosed?
You will find the strength to get through this— whether from friends, family, or community. You are not alone. Each person’s journey is unique, as are our treatment paths, but what’s universal is the way the cancer community supports one another.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A cancer diagnosis can be life changing. Meaning and purpose become more nuanced—something we need to curate with intention. Seek out the people and experiences that bring you joy and light.
