Welcome to a new season at Orchard Lake Country Club, where we have been hard at work enhancing our amenities and services to ensure your experience is better than ever!
Golf Course and Program Enhancements
We have been busy on the course already this spring! The tee boxes on holes 3, 7, and 16 have been rebuilt and enlarged, and we are in the process of refreshing several bunkers. We expanded and resurfaced the cart staging area to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion during peak times.
Also, check our brand-new Golf Handbook, your comprehensive guide to everything golf at OLCC. Inside, you will find information on policies, fees, our caddie program, handicap policy, tournament schedules, key dates, staff contacts, frequently asked questions, and much more.
A warm round of applause for Chef Tyler, who has stepped into the role of Executive Chef and aspires to take our culinary program to new heights. His updated and expanded menu has been met with rave reviews, and the weekly specials will be on-going and something fun and new to try. Behind the scenes, we have made some ala carte kitchen enhancements to expedite service, and we are piloting mobile tablets for faster, more accurate ordering in both the dining room and poolside. As a special touch, we have introduced a new bread and water service to elevate your dining experience.
Our refreshed wine program promises even more exciting wine dinners and a wider selection of events. During the off-season, we installed temperature-controlled wine coolers in the lounge bar to showcase our wine locker holders' collections and provide easy access. Throughout the year, we will be offering exclusive deals on wine, available first to our wine locker holders:
• Exclusive Wine Tastings: Wine locker members will enjoy access to exclusive wine tasting events throughout the season.
• Priority Reservations: Wine locker holders will have first access to reservations for all wine-related events, including wine dinners and specialty tastings.
• Discounts: Wine locker holders will receive a 25% discount on wine tasting events (excluding wine dinners and specialty dinners).
Two of our clay courts have been resurfaced, allowing for an extended season of play as they can be used earlier in the spring and later in the fall. Equally as exciting and by demand, these courts can also be converted into six pickleball courts, promising a fun-filled summer!
We are also thrilled to welcome Paige Loskill as our new Director of Waterfront Activities. As a long-time member of the OLCC family, Paige is the perfect leader for all things sailing, boating, and waterfront related.
We are excited to unveil our brand-new website, designed to make your Orchard Lake experience even smoother. With its streamlined interface and enhanced features, you will be able to effortlessly book tee times, reserve dining tables, the pontoon and sail boats and even secure your spot on the courts.
We are excited to share these new enhancements with you and look forward to seeing you at the club this season!

It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer! The golf course is in phenomenal shape and our 2024 programming is well underway as the days get longer and we all look forward to another great season together.
Thank you to those of you who joined us for Women’s Opening Day – we hope you enjoyed both the lunch meeting and the day of camaraderie on the course. As a reminder, Thursday mornings are reserved for women’s golf at Orchard Lake, whether you are part of the 18-Hole Women’s Golf Association enjoying one of our weekly games or just looking for another chance to get out on the course with your fellow lady members. We’ve got our eyes set on some fun events coming up this month, from the start of Women's League on June 4 to the Member-Member on June 6 and the Ringer Tournament June 26-27. We’re also excited about updates to the two-day women’s member-guest under the new title of “The Blue Lake Cup” on July 10-11! Please contact me or Drew Jenkins if you have any questions on our women’s golf program as we build on the growth and momentum of the last few years.
Though Men’s League has been rolling along for several weeks now, the Early Bird kicked off the men’s golf season in earnest on May 4, with great weather and an always enjoyable mixer format. Round 1 of the President’s Cup will be over by the time you read this message, and the two-day Tin Lizzie tournament will be underway! The Players Invitational follows in a couple of weeks and includes a few tweaks as always to ensure a great time for you and your guest. Shortly after comes the Men’s Senior Club Championship, now featuring the gross tournament and the always popular Ralph Dailey net divisions at the same time, June 22-23. Contact me or Ben Poppy if you have any questions on any of these events!
Dominic DiLisi and the team have had a great start to the season with After School Golf in May, and now have their sights set on the summer program beginning on June 11. We’re excited to implement some new enhancements this year with smaller student to instructor ratios, new teaching tools, and an updated PGA Junior
League experience to ensure our youngest members have their best summer of golf yet at Orchard Lake. Our new academy is also set to begin offering personalized, next-level instruction for our competitive high school age players preparing for the Motown Cup series and fall golf. Dominic is also available for private and small group lessons outside of these programs for anyone looking for more opportunities to improve their game.
Not many clubs in the Midwest – let alone Southeast Michigan –offer the chance to play alongside some of the best players in the world on your home course, sharing stories and laughs over cocktails afterward. That’s exactly what the Orchard Lake Charity ProAm entails, all while raising money and awareness for the Rocket Giving Fund and Evans Scholar Foundation. The event committee has planned some enjoyable updates for this year’s event where we’ll be excited to welcome back honorary member Will Zalatoris and his cohorts from the PGA Tour. It’s an unforgettable experience to share with your friends, family, colleagues, and clients, so please contact Brian Sleeman with any questions or to sign up. This year’s event is set for Monday, June 24!
We’re so fortunate to call one of the best courses in the Midwest home, and it’s incumbent on all of us to ensure it always looks and plays its absolute best. To that end, please be mindful of properly repairing all ball marks, refilling divots, and raking bunkers as stewards of the club, and set an example for your friends and family members to ensure they do the same.
Lastly, and as a reminder, please be sure to report your aces and eagles to the Golf Shop all season long. Each eagle gets recorded and highlighted on our digital Eagles for Children board and leads to a sizeable charitable donation on behalf of the club at the end of each year. For more information on the Eagles for Children program, please visit their website at eaglesforchildren.org or contact me with any questions. Take dead aim out there and be sure to let us know when you score another eagle for the kids!
Enjoy your summer season and please reach out if I or my team can do anything to help you maximize your enjoyment of the club. We look forward to seeing you!
Brian Sleeman PGA Head ProfessionalKjus – whether you pronounce it “schuss,” “k-juice,” or something in between – has been an exciting addition to our golf shop this season. Kjus was founded as a ski apparel brand in 2000 by its namesake, Norwegian Olympic skiing champion Lasse Kjus. A little over ten years ago, Kjus first brought its forward-thinking approach to the golf world, and it’s flourished ever since. Their golf apparel integrates premium materials and innovative design for the highest quality performance in the sun, rain, wind, and snow. Stop by the Golf Shop to check out the layering and outerwear pieces on offer, noting that our team will be happy to assist with a special order for anything in their product line!
The West Shore Boutique is enjoying a successful start to its first full season, offering a variety of lifestyle apparel, accessories, and gift ideas in a spa-like setting in the women’s locker room. Our team is regularly bringing in new items to freshen up the assortment and round out your shopping experience at Orchard Lake. And men, don’t worry – our staff is happy to help if you are looking for a gift idea for the ladies in your life! Simply speak with Jasmine or Rachel in the shop and they will be glad to share their expertise and pass along all the credit to you!

The Evans Scholars Foundation - administered by the Western Golf Association - has been a part of the Orchard Lake caddie program for over 60 years, with 57 young men and women from Orchard Lake awarded this life-changing scholarship in that time. This annual scholarship covers full tuition expenses and room and board, and is awarded to deserving caddies exhibiting excellent character, strong academic performance, financial need, and an outstanding caddie record.
Orchard Lake members currently support the Evans Scholars Foundation through participation in the Par Club, an annual donation with a minimum amount of $250. Following its successful debut last year, we are once again pleased to announce an Evans Booster program to increase awareness of this important scholarship opportunity and to recognize those members who go above and beyond in their support. It works as follows:
Those members interested in donating a minimum amount of $1,000 in a given year will be recognized with a special caddie bib to be worn by their caddies at Orchard Lake throughout
the season. This bib highlights the Evans Scholar program and includes a personalized plate bearing the member's name, similar to the design worn by Tour player caddies. It is our way of saying "thank you" in a visible way while also raising awareness of this incredibly important program. If you are interested in contributing at this level or if you have any questions on the Evans Scholar program, please contact Brian Sleeman. Billing will be administered through your Orchard Lake account, with all proceeds going directly to the Evans Scholars Foundation.
This is an exciting time at Orchard Lake Country Club! With the kids out of school and the warmer weather arriving, it's the perfect opportunity for both junior and adult members to enjoy the tennis facilities and programs.
For junior players, having a full tennis schedule means they will have plenty of opportunities to improve their skills, take part in lessons and clinics, and possibly even compete in some friendly matches or tournaments. For the adults, a full tennis program provides an opportunity to get out on the courts, socialize with other members, and even receive professional instruction to refine their game. Orchard Lake Country Club is getting ready for an exciting summer filled with tennis and camaraderie. It's a fantastic opportunity for members of all ages to stay active, have fun, and enjoy everything the club has to offer.

My name is Charlie Schuster. I started working at Orchard Lake back in 2010 after my graduation from college. More recently, I’ve coached under Lincoln’s directorship for the last 5 years. In total, I’ve put in almost a decade here at the club. In the winters, I prioritize my tutoring business while still trying to make time for some paddle.
I was introduced to pickleball relatively early into the craze by a friend. Most of these players had little rackets background, but they’d spent plenty of time on the court and developed a sixth sense for the game. Flash forward a few years and tennis players were taking over the game by force. The skills transfer naturally, and yet, a sheer reliance on tennis fundamentals won’t get you to the next level. I was stubborn, but I’ve learned a lot and hope to save new players some grief as they learn to play the game. As we’ve seen in some of our cardio tennis classes, a little athleticism can take you a long way in a rackets sport. The same is true for paddle, where it can be frustrating as a beginner to watch athletes stab and sprint their way to victory.
My goal for our classes will not be to teach you athleticism. My goal will be to teach you the pickleball skills and strategies that improve all players. Your ranking, whether it be on the 5.0 scale or just amongst your peers, should be based on your ability to play the game effectively given your abilities. And while the very best players are incredibly athletic, you can play at a remarkably high level with some simple strategies and racket skills.
In conjunction with our classes, we will be running several weekly open plays. Pickleball is fun to play, and play is essential for developing the skills you learn in class (or on YouTube). The availability of our brand new hard courts, with lining for six pickleball courts, is going to make our open play a tremendous experience.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all this summer.

Hello, everyone! My name is Brennan Cannaday, and this will be my fifth summer as an assistant coach at Orchard. I graduated from Shrine High School last spring, and I will be a second-year honors student at Michigan State University this fall. While I am unsure which major I intend to graduate with, I am pursuing interests in Supply Chain Management, Computer Science, and Finance. My first year on campus was an amazing experience, and I proudly can say that I almost made it to every home soccer, football, and basketball game! This spring, I joined Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity that has connected me with many MSU alumni and fostered my professional development. I am not certain what field I would like to enter, so I am always eager to hear about our members’ career paths. I also was involved with the MSU pickleball club, so I am very happy to see the brandnew hard courts coming in at Orchard this summer.
Hi everyone! My name is Natalie Raab, and I am so excited to be back for my third summer at Orchard Lake! I am a rising sophomore at University of Michigan, majoring in communications. I am a huge football fan and will talk about it any chance I get!
I’ve been a part of the tennis community since the age of 6 and grew up playing at Pine Lake Country Club. I played varsity tennis at Bloomfield Hills High School and was a state
After nearly half a decade, I am excited that Orchard Lake will finally be hosting Interclub Finals this year. I have gotten to know our kids for many years now, and it has been a privilege to watch them grow as both players and people. Lincoln and the coaching staff strive to improve their game while creating a fun and engaging environment for the kids, and the program’s growth and overall success reflects this. Nothing would fit better than to see the kids win the championship this year. Outside of the youth program, you will find me involved with adult cardio classes, private lessons, and winter paddle. My favorite thing is meeting parents of our youth players in the adult classes—sometimes I can spot the resemblance, first!
You will usually be able to find me around the courts most days, but you can always call to reach me if you have a question or would just like to chat! OLCC has a great community-based culture, and I will take any opportunity to meet new people. That said, I look forward to the start of the season and seeing everyone I missed this past year
champion at both two and three doubles and a state runner up at one doubles. My favorite place to be on-court is at the net, and I try to get up there every point no matter what! I now play USTA tennis, so I am always playing the game.
I love Orchard Lake for its kind members and incredible staff, and I enjoy working with all ages and levels of play, so contact me to schedule time for a lesson or to hit. I can’t wait to see some familiar faces soon!
2024 Junior Interclub Tennis Finals are hosted by OLCC this summer!
Happy June everyone!
This month is all about the kickoff of our summer season. I am so grateful and proud to have a staff this year that continues to uphold the high expectations of quality and attentiveness to detail. By now we have had our sailboats in the water for about a month, and just like years past we are open to all! Regardless of your previous sailing experience, whether it be vast or miniscule, we would love to have you all down here to take advantage of our most beautiful natural resource, Orchard Lake.
Over the last couple years and especially in the past few months we have been figuring out how to grow our waterfront in ways that benefit our members best. With that being said, as we see an increase in usage with our paddle boards and kayaks, we are happy to announce we have acquired 5 brand new paddle boards (bringing our total to 15) as well as 5 brand new Hobie kayaks.
I am incredibly excited to announce that we have been invited to participate in the first ever One-Design Regatta at Crescent Sail Yacht Club this June 15th and 16th. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase the vastness of talent we have at Orchard Lake.
This year will be similar to years past in regard to how our waterfront will run. The dock will be open every evening Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00am until 7:00pm. Last call to launch off the dock is 6:00pm, with a hard close at 7:00pm. Just a reminder, we do not send out paddle boards or kayaks during junior class hours - please refer to the junior program schedule for our times!
Please note that Pontoon and Sailboat reservations can be made through our new app and website, and can still be made by phone call or down at the waterfront.
Looking forward to seeing you all down at the dock!
Paige Loskill Waterfront DirectorWhat a great Memorial Day weekend! Every day I am astounded by the weather and beautiful setting that the membership is fortunate to enjoy at Orchard Lake Country Club. I know the belief is that there is a bubble around Orchard Lake as we so infrequently get the terrible storms. Watching the membership enjoying the pool, beach, sailboats, and the culinary experience that Chef and his team has curated makes it easy to understand what makes Orchard Lake unique. It was great to see the Waterfront and Pool come back to life over Memorial Day weekend and to see everyone. Hopefully you noticed the new staffed check-in podiums at the entrance by the parking lot and at the dock. They look great and really help to provide a space for the staff to greet the membership as they arrive.
I have been blessed to have retained many staff members over the past 5 seasons. In fact this year is the first that we started without someone who was a full-time staff member with me when I arrived in 2019. You may see one of my former assistants, Gaby Koechley, from time to time but we will not see her regularly. She just graduated from Michigan State University this past spring and she will continue to gain further clinical experience this summer working with patients and will be applying to ABSN (accelerated nursing) programs while anticipating to start her program this Fall.
Dean Rumely is back this season as Assistant Pool and Waterfront Director. Michaela Fitzsimons is also back this year, but she will be switching roles and helping to mentor some of the guards on staff, while also filling in as a manager from time to time as well. I am thankful for the leadership that they both provide and appreciate their efforts for the membership; I know that the summer of 2024 will be no different for both Dean and Michaela and they will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that we will be able to give the membership an outstanding experience at the Pool and the Waterfront.
If you are new to the Club, welcome! If we have not met yet, please come on down so that the staff and I can meet you and you can enjoy a day by the lake. Whether you are a new or a returning member, I would like to highlight some of our important rules and procedures that help to ensure the safety of all members while at the pool and Lakehouse:
•Please register your party with the guard at the table by the playscape when you arrive.
• A guest fee is charged for members bringing guests to the Pool and Waterfront unless they are using only the picnic grove, attending a club-catered event (unless they are using the pool or the waterfront outside the party/event), or attending evening lakeside dining. If you use the Orchard Lake Application on your phone this is a seamless way to check-in your guests as you arrive.
•There is no food or glass permitted either on the pool deck or in the locker room.
•There are no coolers permitted on the pool deck or the Lakehouse deck.
•Any swimmer 10 and under must wear an approved life jacket when in the lake.
Hours of Operation-
•Our normal hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 12:00pm-8:00pm; Friday and Saturday 12:00pm-9:00pm
•On the following dates the pool will close early due to a Blue Carp home swim meet-
•Sunday, June 23rd
•Sunday, July 14th
•The pool opening may be delayed on Friday, July 12th for the OLCC Mini-Meet that we will host in the morning.
We hope that you will enjoy the summer this year at the pool and the waterfront! It is our mission to provide you with a first-class, safe, friendly, and clean facility to make lasting memories at.
Swimmingly Yours, Douglas Irey Pool and Waterfront Director

Rookies is a free swimming lesson program that the swimming staff offers at the beginning of the summer season. It serves to introduce children ages 3-6 to the lifeguarding and coaching staff, to acclimate them to the pool, and to improve their swimming skills.
Swimmers will be grouped by age and groups will be fluid as we see their skills and comfort level. The program is offered from 12:0012:30 Tuesdays through Fridays June 18-28.
