The Fitness Center is now equipped with a state-of-the-art shoulder machine, NuShoulder. The machine is marketed as the safest, quickest, most effective rotator cuff training tool on the market. Rotator cuff training is technically very difficult and time consuming. The NuShoulder allows isolation of the rotator cuff muscles that stabilize the shoulder joint while ensuring proper form during each of the movements. The machine may be intimidating at first glance, but after some initial guidance, it should become part of your normal workout routine.
In the past we have not allowed children in the Fitness Center for various reasons. With the growth of our junior sports programs, it is important to teach our younger members appropriate workout techniques to ensure proper development and injury prevention. Moving forward, we will allow children under 16 to use the Fitness Center with the following guidelines:
After 12pm.
Only under the direct supervision and guidance of their parent or club personal trainer.
Registration is open for the Fourth Annual Run the Lake 5K and Kid’s Fun Run taking place on Sunday, September 29th. We will be benefiting Friends of the Children – Detroit. To register, visit runsignup.com/Race/MI/OrchardLake/RuntheLake5K or talk to Tom in the Fitness Center to add registration to your membership account.

It’s hard to believe how quickly most of the summer has gone by, but there’s still plenty of great golf ahead as we turn the page into August!
The Women’s Ringer Tournament wrapped up on June 26, featuring a two-day format offering players the chance to choose the best score from each hole between each day to create their total tournament score (results on additional pages). The Blue Lake Cup was scheduled for July 10-11, but Mother Nature unfortunately dealt us significant rainfall, forcing a re-schedule of the event to September 10-11. This new and expanded edition of the women’s member-guest promises to be a ton of fun, and we hope you can join us!
August brings with it the final few weeks of Women’s League, Club Championship Weekend, and the always popular Women’s Charity Event on August 27. Registration is underway for each, and don’t forget to mark your calendars for the second annual Solheim Cup event on September 12 and Women’s Closing Day on September 26. Our Thursday morning group continues to play on a weekly basis and is available to all lady members and spouses!
The Players and Blue Coat Invitationals were the biggest events on the men’s side in the last six weeks, and the results are detailed in the following pages (along with links to the illustrated recaps). Both enjoyed generally good weather and endless camaraderie, and our one-day member-guest – The Ward Cup – is on the books for September 13. Registration begins shortly and it promises to be another memorable day of golf!
We’ve also recently celebrated our Men’s Senior Club Championship and the Red, White & Blue event, and are circling dates on the calendar for Club Championship Weekend (August 9-11), the Carp Invitational (August 15), and the Colt & Alison member-member tournament (September 29).
The summer junior program may be over but junior golf is rolling along! Our August mini camps offer great opportunities for our most interested junior golfers to continue their instruction in small class sizes before school resumes, and our After School Golf picks up again in September for some afternoon instruction.
On the event side, the juniors are also a part of Club Championship weekend (August 10-11) along with our Young Adult division which began last year. This new category is specifically designed for those dependents ages 18-25 who otherwise have not been eligible for any of the Club Championship competitions. We’ve also got the return of the popular Family Scramble Tournament set for August 18, guaranteeing a good time in an extremely low-pressure format that is all about enjoying time on the course together.
Elsewhere on the calendar, Couples League returns on August 21 and is followed by the Husband & Wife Championship on August 25. Please let us know if you have any questions on these or any of our other upcoming events!
It’s a never-ending issue and universal responsibility to maintain our great golf course in its best possible condition. One of the most important ways to do so is to properly repair all ball marks whenever they occur. Using a tee or a designated repair tool from the amenities display, simply enter the tool at the back end of the ball mark and gently push the turf forward into its original position, working around the back half of the mark, and then lightly tapping it down with your putter. It’s a good goal to repair yours plus at least two others on each green, noting that the marks are often on the front of the green even when the ball ends up on the back.
Please let me or any member of our team know if there’s anything we can do to make the last half of the season as enjoyable as possible – we're looking forward to seeing you at the club!

It’s hard to believe that the end of the 2024 season is upon us. This has been my inaugural year as the Waterfront Director and I am so proud of how the season has progressed. As most of you know I have been at the waterfront for the past four years, and I can easily say that this year has been my absolute favorite. I want to thank everyone for being so kind and supportive, and for being patient with me throughout this transition.
The beginning of the summer started off strong with our Jr programming, and I can truthfully say that the kids who have stuck with us this year have grown more than I’ve seen in the past 4 years i’ve been at Orchard Lake! I can honestly say I already have high hopes for next year!
Our adult league has evolved as we’ve been doing our best to adapt into busy schedules and to mother nature herself, again I appreciate the patience everyone has had with us down at the waterfront.
The regattas we’ve been able to run this season have gone off without a hitch! Our Around the Island and Red White and Blue regattas were truly a sight to see, won by Mike Blinstrub and crew, and Steve and Theresa Orr.
This month we are preparing for our Skippers Invitational as well as our Two Day Commodores Regatta, which will happen early this month and early September - so keep an eye out for emails.
While we begin this transition into our final months, we are thrilled to keep continuing on with our Adult Open League on Tuesdays, and with Jr, programming for the next few weeks!
Last month Steve Briggs, Mike Blinstrub, Suzanne Thomas, Tom Ritter, and myself participated in the 100th Bayview Mackinac regatta. Please be sure to congratulate Mike on his 1st in class! We are so proud to have had them represent our club!
Just a final reminder that tritoon and sailboat reservations can be made online and in our new app, so beyond that all I look forward to seeing you all down at the waterfront!
Paige Loskill Waterfront Director
Dear Parents and Swimmers,
Our swimmers took a page from our “B” meet champions: Paige Seizert, Kuke Standring, Patrick Moore, Emmett Everly and Landon Cummings and had a sterling meet at Pine Lake.
We began and ended the meet by winning the eight and under medley relay (Jameson Knesek, Michael Gaier, Lexi Gatt and Zoe Helm,) and the 64 year 200 freestyle relay (Mayer Krieger, Catherine Rose Howe, Mackenzie Conway, and Jack Higgins.) Our swimmers set a new team and SICSA league record in the 64 free relay.
In addition to that team record, Catherine Rose Howe lowered her own record in the 13-14 50 fly and the second-place 40-year medley relay set a new team record breaking a standard that was 21 years old! That team consisted of Jack Bassett, Tyler Bassett, Madison Knesek and Emme Taylor.
Our individual league champs were:
Jameson Knesek 8 and under 25 back and 25 fly
Michael Giaier 8 and under 100 IM and 25 breast
Jack Bassett 9/10 50 backstroke at breaststroke (and he’s only 9!)
Catherine Rose Howe 13/14 butterfly Lexi Gatt 8 and under 25 free (and she’s only 7!)
Teddy Howe 9/10 50 freestyle
Will Quarrier 11/12 50 free
Mackenzie Conway 15-17 50 freestyle
Second places came from:
The 40 year medley relay
(jack Bassett, Tyler Bassett, Madison Knesek and Emme Taylor)
The 40 and under 200 Free relay
(Teddy Howe, Brooke Seizert, Lukas Gatt and Vita Locricchio)
Beckham Leith 11-12 50 back
Teddy Howe 9-10 50 IM
Madison Knesek 11-12 100 IM and 50 fly
Tyler Bassett 11-12 100 IM
Will Schwab 13-14 100 IM
George Howe 8 and under 25 breast
Robbie Izzo 9-10 50 breast
Will Quarrier 11-12 50 breast
Ethan Vandenhaute 15-17 50 breast
Mackenzie Conway 15-17 50 fly
Jack Higgins 15-17 50 fly and free
Lukas Gatt 9-10 free
Ari Silas 8 and under 25 free and fly
Catherine Rose Howe 13-14 50 free
The 52 year free relay (William Quarrier, Reece Helm, Lucy Cousino, and Hully Quarrier)
We certainly have a lot of new stars on our team!
We achieved our team goal of finishing second. We swam great on Friday (undaunted by the weather!) and even better on Saturday. Our newest swimmers, the seven-year-old girls and boys certainly came through with great performances.
It was a great season. Congratulations to all of our Blue Carp. A huge thank you to our directors for making it so special!! I am so grateful!
