Introduction to SolidPool

SolidPool is a simple clip together block system that forms a concrete shuttering system to build pools. The system is guaranteed not to burst and is a tried and tested system of over 20 years.

Each block is around 3.5kgs in weight, meaning they’ll be one of the lightest materials you’ll handle if you’re building your own pool. With this lightness comes speed, meaning the build of the pool walls can be up to 50% faster.

One of the biggest issues we face building pools, is the weather putting a stop to your work. However, with the SolidPool system you can build with it in all weathers preventing the inevitable weather delays.

With other pool systems you might need to render the pool shell. This is a skilled job that requires a specialist and also increases the cost to a pool. It is also an area of the pool build that can easily fail. With SolidPool there is no need to render the pool shell. The system has two finishes that all you to either place liner straight onto the blocks or buff the concrete to tile.

Pool Pump

If you’ve already had a look at pool pumps you will see the industry is literally flooded with pumps. So, how do we choose which one is suitable for our pools? Simple, the shaft!

Think of the pump as the heart of your pool, constantly running to circulate the water. That’s a lot of work. Our pool pumps are highly efficient pumps and quiet running. Unlike other pool pumps our pumps impellers are enclosed and sit on its own axle, made with a high grade Stainless steel shaft and mechanical seal in graphite and alumina.

It does not rust compared to other pumps with mild steel shafts. This is why they come with a 5-year warranty. Our pumps also have a government seal of approval for efficiency as they use less power to achieve a highly efficient flow rate.

Pool Filter

We only use sand filters because it has been tried and tested, not only in its simplicity but also the fact it is compatible with other additives if necessary.

Pool filters are normally made from fiberglass, smooth on the outside but rough on the inside. This rough surface collects bacteria in the one place you want to clean the water.

Our filters with valves are made of chemical and weather-resistant modified polypropylene. Injection moulded, with the two halves thermally welded. Highly versatile, with Top or Side-mounted, six-way valve. This gives a perfectly smooth finish on the inside and out, free from bacteria growth.

Ioniser

Water quality is a really important part of any swimming pool, the amount of chemicals added to the pool can cause irritations and be costly.

Over 2,000 years ago the Ancient Greeks found that algae did not grow in water stored in copper containers. They also discovered that it seemed to purify drinking water.

It was not until the nineteenth century that the reasons were understood, and the process was established commercially. With out ioniser, it uses charged ions to kill bacteria and algae. A simple to use method of ensuring quality water, with very little effort.

As the pool water passes through the in-line cell unit, copper and silver ions are released, reducing bacteria and killing algae.

You still need to use a small amount of chlorine, but by doing this, Chlorine consumption is reduced by up to 60%, making it particularly ideal for those sensitive to chlorine. That is the equivalent chlorine content tap water has.

This method also reduces maintenance and running costs of the pool. We are that confident in our water quality we are more than happy to drink from our pools to demonstrate how well our equipment is working on keeping the chlorine levels low.

Pool Pipes

There are two different types of pool pipes, there are PVC and ABS. We only Supply Grey PVC Pipe work in our pool kits, compared to the standard white ABS Pipework.

The PVC pipework is superior quality to the ABS and can be used for vaster temperature ranges and resists water with chemicals in it. It’s what's used on commercial installs.

Our Grey PVC Pipe is manufactured to BSEN1452 Rating. The 50mm pipe and has an outer wall thickness of 2.4m, and the 63mm pipe has an outer wall thickness of 3mm

We use blue glue for our self build kits as it is great for anyone new to pool plumbing. Wet, dry and fast to use, it sets blue making visual checks on the pipework much easier before pressure testing.

Pool Fittings

Every pool kit on the market has plastic fittings, but this doesn’t mean they are all the same.

All of our wall and floor fittings are supplied standard in white Plastic. We have sourced and supply high quality plastic fittings that, compared to cheaper plastic fittings, won’t fatigue and discolour with water that has chemicals in it.

We can also supply Stainless Steel fittings as an upgrade in our package. We can also supply, grey, black, sand and stainless steel fittings if required.

Plant Room

Hiding the pool equipment can be costly. A plant room is often built in a wooden shed or if you have a pool house an allocated area is used.

The Plant Room: You may of heard the term; “Stand alone equipment”, is generally housed in a plant room, and can look complicated to install and plan.

Careful planning is needed to make sure the pipes enter in the correct position. The bigger, the better for access and working on the equipment.

There is no need to have either a pool house or clutter a pool house up with a plant room, or spoil uninterrupted views.

All of the pool equipment can be housed in our filtration box. This can be buried partially or fully in the ground - freeing up space and leaving sight lines around the pool completely untouched.

Not only is the plant hidden, but the filtration comes pre-plumbed, saving time on site, meaning a quicker installation of your pool, you’ll be swimming before you know it.

The filtration box is also anchored to the ground, with the lateral braces on the walls, so it's resistant to land movement.

The box has been specially designed to blend in discreetly with the land, with its cover. Heavy-duty hinges and special safety lock keep the pool equipment safe. Its ease of transport and access for maintenance work.

Air Source Heat Pumps

We get asked all the time what the most efficient way is to heat a pool. There are many ways to heat a pool depending on location, size and what is available, Gas, Electric, Oil, Solar, Ground source or Air source.

We recommend air source heat pumps. Our Inverter Heat Pumps are 10 times quieter than standard heat pumps offering higher COP (The coefficient of performance) of over 15 and they can even work down to -7 degrees C and heat water up to 40°C.

Now you can have both quiet running and as near to all year heating as possible. Even if you do not need all year heating, having the capability to run with an effective COP at low temperatures means our Heat Pump will allow you to heat an outdoor pool at the beginning and end of the season (normally the hardest times to keep the pool warm).

Our heat pumps can save energy by controlling the pool filtration pump, turning it on & Off intelligently, according to the heating requirement of the pool. With the pump running only when needed, noise is reduced as well as running costs, whilst always maintaining the desired pool temperature.

Our Heat Pumps are powered by Twin-Rotary Mitsubishi DC Inverter Compressors. Based on the "Twin Mechanism" principle, two rotors operate together to balance the torque to stop most of the shaking created by normal compressors. This results in the highest efficiency, very low vibration and ultimately extremely quiet operation.

Our Heat Pumps come with Digital controls for easy operation and accurate pool temperature setting, a Titanium Heat Exchanger to protect against Chlorine in the pool water, a "Soft Start" on all Models which reduces the power required when turning the units on and a 7 Year Compressor & Heat Exchanger warranty, which is unmatched elsewhere. Our Heat Pumps cover just about every domestic swimming pool from 20m3 up to 120m3 pools.

Bypass Kit for swimming pool heat pumps, allow you to control the flow of water to your heat pump.

Winterise your heat pump without affecting the flow of water to your swimming pool and maintain your heat pump quickly and effectively.

The heater needs to be situated so you can easily access the valves, but more importantly they get the flow of air needed. As it draws in warm air the unit extracts the heat and puts it into the pool. Ice cold air is blown out of the front of the unit. The machines are black and have a foot print of 1200mm x 400mm.

Automatic top up system

Water will be lost from the pool for different reasons, evaporation, splashes and backwash all play a role in the water levels. Maintaining water level is critical for covers and skimmers.

To save putting a hose in and filling the pool, we use an auto top up system. This is a simple system is much like your toilet at home. When the level drops it refills. Once full it stops, all completed automatically for you.

We’ve heard lots of stories about people leaving hoses on and flooding gardens and even an entire basement including cinema room. With an Automatic top up system, there’s no risk of this occurring.

Tiling

Due to the unique nature of our tiled blocks, the SolidPool blocks can simply be buffed while you are pouring the concrete, to give you a perfectly smooth finish.

Then a waterproof tanking solution is applied and it’s ready to tile. So no need to render the pool.

The junction between the wall and floor will need to be bridged using either: a sand and cement cove to create a smooth slope, we tailor this to take a full mosaic tile or use you can use an aqua stop tape when using large format tiles.

Liners

Whilst some companies will sell you whatever you want, to get the sale, we will only supply onsite liners. An on-site Liner is a far superior product to a bag liner.

With a lot of high-end companies opting for onsite lining it is becoming the go to solution for concrete pools.

The quality of the liner and underlay is brilliant. A 4mm underlay is fitted to the walls first and then the 2mm liner cut and welded into position. No creases or lines in the corners or around the coping. The on-site liner comes in a range of colours and textures.

Our fitters chase a line out from under the coping and install a profile to weld the liner to. By doing this you do not have an unsightly bed of mortar between the coping and liner giving a seamless finish that also protects the mortar from frost damage. You know your swimming pool liner will be installed by qualified fitters and come with a 12 or 15-year warranty, compared to just 7 years on a bag liner.

SWIM JET

Former Olympic and two time common wealth gold medalist Chris Cook has produced our incredible swim jet.

Available in two different sizes; the entry level 70m3 per hour will give most of us a great work out. The twin pump version gives an output of 140m3 per hour and is a serious Jet for those looking to get to the next Olympics.

Automatic Safety Covers

Great for sites with lots of wildlife, trees, children and pets, reduces pool maintenance, retains heat but not as efficient, as a venetian cover or manual bubble cover.

Aquamatic fabric material has a life expectancy of approximately 7-10 years and all have a seven-year pro-rated warranty. Apart from UV and wear & tear, the most common cause of a reduced fabric lifespan is the incorrect use of pool chemicals i.e. continuation of high chlorine levels of ‘Shock Chlorine Treatments’.

Having an Aquamatic cover substantially reduces the amount of chemical required to sanitise the pool water: as approximately twothirds of all organic matter is prevented from entering the pool. The cover also restricts up to 90% of light from entering the pool thus preventing algae from growing!

What Powers the Aquamatic

Hydraulic Safety Cover? A ‘Powerpack’ hydraulic pump that pumps hydraulic oil through two 9mm/155 BAR rated hoses which are connected to TWO hydraulic motors via a reverse flow manifold. Each motor independently activates either the ‘Reel System’ or the ‘Roller Tube’ and because there are no clutches involved a smooth and reliable service is delivered time after time! There is no electrical supply required to power the drive mechanism. Therefore, in the event that the pit housing is flooded, there will be no costly repair bills as all the components in the pit area are unaffected

How do Aquamatic Hydraulic Safety Covers Work? A PVC reinforced fabric is attached to an aluminium leading edge bar that spans the width of the pool. A unique Slider mechanism is attached to the leading edge and this slides through aluminium tracking placed either side of the pool. A marine quality nylon cable cord is also attached to the fabric and threads up and down the tracks onto a ‘Drive Mechanism’, which activates a pair of cast aluminium reels. The Drive Mechanism is operated by a key operated switch. The cast aluminium reels wind up the nylon cables which pulls the fabric through the tracking to close the cover. To remove the cover from the Drive Mechanism simply activates the ‘Roller Tube’, this winds up the fabric on to the tube just like a conventional reel system used for Solar Covers. Safety Remote Operated Key Switch (Stop, start or reverse cover at any time). Available in Stainless Steel (flush

Venetian Covers

These are great looking covers, and there’s lots of options for fitting them, above ground, in a pit behind the pool wall even in the pool floor. Great for heat retention and gain.

Solar heating – venetian covers are developed to harness solar energy available to an outdoor pool to provide a secondary pool heating system.

Evaporation reduction – using a pool cover will greatly reduce the heat loss through evaporation, saving up to 85% of overall heat loss.

Insulation – all venetian covers provide a blanket insulation u-value of at most 3.5W/m2K

Polycarbonate plastic is moldable, durable, lightweight, flame resistant, shatterproof, and energy efficient. The polycarbonate granules are normally produced as a clear plastic – alternatively they can be extruded with an additive to achieve any colour you can imagine.

Manual Covers

These are the most cost effective solution to covering a swimming pool. Sol+Guard™ is a highperformance solar pool cover designed specifically to maximise solar gains, and heat the water of the swimming pool.

By raising pool temperatures by up to 8°C, this best-selling solar pool cover material helps to save energy, money and reduce the environmental impact of your pool.
