s people age, the importance of social connections and companionship becomes even more significant. For seniors, meaningful relationships are not just a source of joy; they play a crucial role in maintaining mental, emotional, and physical health. As individuals transition into their later years, companionship can make the difference between thriving and merely surviving. Here’s how compassionate in-home companion care services can help your loved one stay well:
1. Combat Loneliness and Isolation
Loneliness is one of the most common challenges faced by seniors, particularly those who live alone or far from family. Studies show that nearly one in three older adults experience loneliness, which can severely impact their overall well-being. Companion care fosters connection and inclusion, with professional caregivers engaging with your loved one through conversation, puzzles, games and more.
2. Enhance Emotional Health
Social connections are key to emotional well-being. Seniors who have strong companionship networks are generally happier and more satisfied with life. Positive social interactions with a professional caregiver stimulate the brain, reduce stress, and increase the release of “feel-good” hormones like oxytocin and serotonin. These chemical changes can uplift mood, decrease anxiety, and help combat depression, which can be more prevalent in older adults.
3. Strengthen Cognitive Health
Loneliness has been linked to cognitive decline and an increased risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Social engagement, on the other hand, keeps the
brain active and stimulated. Through professional companion care, seniors are often encouraged to learn new skills, engage in mental exercises, or even just reminisce about fond memories, all of which contribute to cognitive health.
4. Improve Quality of Life
The overall quality of life for seniors is significantly enhanced through companionship. When seniors feel connected to others, they have a higher sense of purpose and fulfillment. Simple pleasures, like sharing a meal or watching a movie with a loved one or a caregiver, can bring immense joy. Companionship fosters a positive outlook on life, and seniors who feel supported are more likely to engage in activities they enjoy, contributing to their happiness and vitality.
5.
Strong social support can also help seniors maintain their independence longer, allowing them to age in the place they call home. When seniors have consistent companionship, whether from family or professional caregivers, they are more likely to stay in their own homes, which can promote a sense of autonomy and control. Professional in-home companion care is a perfect starting point for seniors who do not have family able to visit often.
Companionship is more than just a pleasant addition to a senior’s life – it is a lifeline to better health, emotional stability, and overall well-being. Whether through family, friends, or caregivers, having regular social interactions can alleviate loneliness, improve physical and cognitive health, and enhance quality of life.

Pages 11-15 Highlighting Author, Speaker and Hall of Fame Coach Sherri Coale as she shares about life lessons and her new book!
Dr. Keith Gibson presents the SpotOn Denture Technique which employs an innovative, proprietary technique (patent pending) to create dentures. Using all of the training and expertise he has accumulated over his decades of hand crafting
dentures, in conjunction with the latest technologies available, Dr. Gibson is presenting an advanced and simplified technique that incorporates AI guided CAD/CAM generated devices to measure and position your teeth in harmony with your face, which results in an optimally customized denture for each patient.
Traditionally, there has always been a lot of nuanced guesswork in creating the right measurements for each individual patient, which is more time consuming and expensive. This
technique simplifies the capturing of the desired complex geometry, which is a more daunting process with traditional techniques. As a result, you can now reliably have the most natural denture that has ever been available to you. The mission of this technique/system is to increase efficiency, predictablilty and quality, which also means that the cost savings in denture creation can be passed on to you.
Just an interesting factoid: 50-70% of facial aethetics is attributed to the smile. If you are looking for a
denture that provides optimal aesthetics and biting/chewing function, please contact us or have your dentist contact Dr. Gibson for a beneficial partnership in creating the best solution for you. All that is needed from your doctor to begin the process is an accurate and scanned digital impression or scan of the arch that can be emailed to the lab to utilize this technique.
The Spot-On Denture Technique ensures that the teeth are positioned in harmony with your face to feel and look natural by simplifying the process in an exclusive and impressive new way!

Most Oklahomans are familiar with the name Sherri Coale. She was the local basketball coach plucked from the high school ranks in 1996 to rebuild the University of Oklahoma women’s basketball team. Over a 25-year career, brick by brick, she and a committed collection of believers turned the struggling program into a national contender.
“I love being called Coach, still,“ Sherri says. “It’s one of those labels …like Mom, or Sis, or GG (my most favorite tag) that stands for more than what I do. It’s part of who I am. My shoulders go back a little every time I hear it.”
Sherri Coale’s numbers speak for themselves while coaching OU women’s basketball. She led her program to three Final Fours, won six Big 12 Tournament Championships
and four Big 12 Tournament Championships, had nineteen straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and made nine Sweet 16 appearances.
Her emphasis on academic and athletic excellence for her players resulted in the Sooners receiving 127 Academic All-Big 12 honors during her tenure.
Coach Coale’s success ultimately earned her a spot in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2016.
In the spring of 2021, she retired from the dream job she had held for a quarter of a century.
“Coaching ball is what I did,” Coale says, “For over 30 years. But it wasn’t all I ever imagined doing...”
“I was the girl who wanted 37 lives. So when I retired from coaching, I ran toward the passion I had long carried in my pocket—I wanted to write.”
“It’s something I’ve done my entire life. Before I even knew what I was doing, it was my way of understanding my world. Observing and putting thoughts on paper made things clearer… it made me feel better and it gave me juice. It was something I always knew I wanted to try to do on whatever scale I could, though I didn’t really know what that would look like.”
Sherri shares that she was one of those kids who grew up loving basketball, writing, and reading. Upon graduation from high school in Healdton, Oklahoma, Sherri went to college on a full scholarship to play basketball at Oklahoma Christian University. She shared with the
“This always sounds strange, but I had never really even considered coaching at the collegiate level,” Sherri says.
admissions department her goal to become a high school teacher and a coach.
“I was handed a course catalog and told that would help me figure it out. With book in hand, I quickly put together a plan that would enable me to do just that. Four years later, I received a diploma with the credentials that said I could teach and coach. I started out as a high school English teacher and an assistant basketball coach at Edmond High School. After two years there, I moved to Norman High School to be the head girls basketball coach where I thought I had won the lottery. It was an amazing school system in a fantastic community and we had built a powerhouse high school girls program. I couldn’t see a reason to ever teach and coach anywhere else.”
Seven years and a couple of state championships later, an unexpected opportunity presented itself. The University of Oklahoma came calling.
“I had never wanted to be a nomad, which is often the lifestyle of a coach. I wanted to have a family, raise my kids and have them grow up with an allegiance to one school . . . it was just the way I envisioned my life. So, college coaching wasn’t a dream. But when your DREAM institution is a possibility, you stop to think it through.”
In 1996, Sherri Coale was hired as the Oklahoma women’s basketball head coach.
“It was the honor and privilege of my life to be able to lead the women’s basketball program at the University of Oklahoma. It really was. But there was so much more I wanted to do, and when the pandemic stopped the world for a bit, it gave me a chance to look at what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.”
“So I began to write.”
She took her laptop into the backyard and simply as she says, “opened a vein.”
In 2022, Sherri penned her first book, Rooted to Rise: The Redwood Legacies of Life-Anchoring People, which is an Amazon bestseller. In Rooted to Rise, she shares indelible truths she learned from the people with whom she has crossed paths in her life. From Coale’s small-town roots to her award-winning career, her life has been littered with remarkable connections. Each, whether small or large, has been a vital part of Sherri’s journey.
In Rooted to Rise, readers find insightful vignettes from those responsible for teaching her, as well as those she was responsible for teaching. Readers will find themselves reminiscing about their own stories as they read about lessons learned and wisdom Sherri gained from paying at-
tention to the extraordinary, the ordinary, and all that is in between.
Coale strung her stories together along the metaphor of the California redwoods. “Most people think the towering redwoods have roots that attach to the very core of the earth – deep, deep anchors that could support the giant mass that stands. But they don’t. Instead of growing down to find an anchor, redwood roots grow out … and wrap around each other. They hold each other up.”
Sherri believes people aren’t much different.
“It’s the intersection of our lives that makes us who we are. We are grounded by others. We are elbow-locked with others as we reach and swell and grow.”
The stories in Rooted to Rise are about my people. But everybody has some. Parents and grandparents, broth-
ers and sisters, friends, teachers and mentors, and even random people we encounter along life’s way. Rooted to Rise is a collection of stories about my people. But everybody has some. I hope people who read the book recognize, remember and appreciate theirs.”
This year, two years after the release of Rooted to Rise, Sherri’s latest book hit the shelves. The Compost File: Stories for the Striver in Us All, is quickly becoming a ‘must read’ by this inspiring author.
“Life is so busy. From the ties that anchor us, to the have-to get-to junctures, to the shoulder brush interactions that shape our perspectives, the stories in my new book alert us to what we might be missing while we are looking the other way.”
Sherri is willing to dive out of bounds to save a moment so others can see it as well. She sets the stage, tells the story, and then creates the space for it to land where and how it will.
When asked how in the world she came up with the title she quickly explains with laughter, “It is certainly not what most people are thinking when they hear the word compost!”
“For years I have kept a folder on my laptop computer. In it I toss things that I love, things that I disagree with, things that make me think. If I have an idea for a piece or a title that feels important or a paragraph that marks the beginning of an idea, I dump it in the folder. The file is titled “Compost” because what’s in it helps me grow.”
“While working on book number two, after a series of God nudges, I decided that perhaps the stories I’d been publishing weekly on my website should be compiled into a book. As I began to organize the pieces into thematic chapters, it became clear that they were thoughts and ideas aimed at strivers—people who are always pulled to get better, be
better, live better. And so, the title The Compost File stretched to include the subtitle: “Stories For the Striver in Us All.”
Readers of this newest Coale publication will be served up bite-sized nuggets told with intimate details that provide thought-provoking exploration into the human condition. The stories Sherri tells speak to the challenges of parenthood, the agony and euphoria of competition, and the rewards and sacrifices of leadership. One minute you will be laughing because you’ve been there. The next you may be crying because you remember being there, too. You may be reminded of a special teacher who noticed your gift, a good friend who was there in a crisis, a time when you chose to go left while everybody else went right. Sherri’s stories will cause you to pause. They’ll stimulate your thoughts, ignite your gratitude and fuel your desire to live an intentional life.
Many people have asked Sherri what her books are about. Faith? Yes! Family? Yes! Basketball? Yes! And so much more. While Sherri says that those three components will always be part of her books, they are not what her books are centered on. She is also often asked who her books are for. Her answer? Everyone! Parents, grandparents, young people, business leaders, coaches, teachers, athletes and more.
“The kind of writing I do, what I call ‘non-fiction noticing’ is a very personal experience. It’s observation and awareness wrapped in a way that helps you remember the relevance. Hopefully, my vulnerability nudges others to think and feel. I have never wanted to write prescriptively. I don’t believe that I have the market cornered on anything. I just have experiences that I think are universal. By sharing those, I’m hoping we might be able learn from each other.”
writing, Sherri has a heart for others and a passion for giving back to her communities. Her teams at the University of Oklahoma were always committed to organizations within the community of Norman,
house where they raised their two children. Their daughter was recently married and their son and daughter-in-law have two little girls. All are the center of their universe and keep their home and lives full.
“The kind of writing I do, what I call ‘non-fiction noticing’ is a very personal experience. It’s observation and awareness wrapped in a way that helps you remember the relevance.”
Part of the beauty of Coach Coale’s books is that they do not need to be read sequentially. Readers can pick up either of the books and open to any of the stories to find a compelling lesson or endearing memory. However, be prepared. Once you open and begin to read, you won’t want to put them down!
If you haven’t guessed, in addition to coaching, teaching, leading, and
where the University is located, and the state of Oklahoma. One such organization is the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City where Sherri met a cast of characters through the years who have deeply impacted her life. Stories about several are included in her books.
What is Sherri doing now that she has two books published? She is still writing! She refers to The Compost File as her third book, as her second remains in progress. Sherri and her husband, Dane, still live in the
Sherri’s days in her own words? “I speak. I consult. I deadhead flowers. I smack tennis balls, jog daily whether I want to or not, and change my granddaughter’s diapers.” She says this stage of her life is ripe with blessings and the gift of being able to choose how she spends her time.
Signed, personalized books can be purchased at www.sherricoale.com. Her books can also be found on Amazon.com or at local bookstores including Barnes & Noble in Norman, Best of Books in Edmond, and Full Circle Bookstore in Oklahoma City. or 32 years, Care Plus Home Care has been more than just a senior care provider—it has been a trusted, family-owned company dedicated to serving the local community with compassion and reliability. Founded in 1993 by mother-daughter duo Nancy Brewer and Kristi Brewer-Campbell, this family-run business has built its reputation on providing personalized, high-quality care that allows seniors to maintain their independence while remaining in the comfort of their own homes.
At Care Plus Home Care, family is at the heart of everything they do. Unlike larger, corporate care providers, they ensure that someone from their team is always available and within reach—whether it’s to address a concern, provide support, or simply offer peace of mind.
Their hands-on, personal approach fosters strong, lasting relationships between clients, caregivers, and the leadership team, ensuring that every individual receives the dedicated attention they deserve.
Over the past three decades, Care Plus Home Care has become known for its exceptional in-home services, helping veterans (at no cost to them) and seniors with daily activities such as meal preparation, personal grooming, and housekeeping. Their caregivers go beyond basic assistance, creating a warm and comfortable environment where clients feel safe and valued.
Understanding the challenges of limited mobility, Care Plus also offers transportation services, ensuring that seniors can attend medical appointments and social outings
Care Plus Home Care is a family-owned, licensed, private duty home care agency that wants
with ease. For individuals living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia, Care Plus Home Care provides specialized support, prioritizing safety and emotional well-being. Additionally, they offer respite care services, giving family caregivers the break they need while ensuring their loved ones continue to receive top-tier care.
As they celebrate 32 years of service, Care Plus Home Care remains committed to their mission of providing compassionate, personalized, and accessible care. Their legacy is one of dedication, trust, and unwavering support for the seniors and families they serve. With a family member always within reach, Care Plus Home Care isn’t just a service—it’s a promise that you and your loved ones will always have someone to count on.

Comfort Keepers, a nationally recognized provider of in-home senior care, and a preferred partner of the VA, is proud to announce the re-launch of its agency in the Oklahoma City metro area. With a promise to ‘Elevate the Human Spirit’ through compassionate, personalized care, Comfort Keepers aims to enrich the lives of seniors, veterans, and their families.
The agency operates under the experienced leadership of its new owner, Scott R. Van Duinen. He brings a passion for service, strategic vision, and dynamic energy to the local senior care landscape after 5 years of doing the same in North Texas. Mr. Van Duinen and his team are committed to providing not just care—but uplifting care that enables seniors to age in place, to thrive in the comfort of their own homes.
Joining him is General Manager Christine “Tonnie” Wainscott, a seasoned customer service and marketing professional, who worked for Comfort Keepers from 2016 – 2020, and just returned to manage the agency. Known for her operational excellence and client-first philosophy, Tonnie is dedicated to building strong relationships with families and delivering reliable, responsive service statewide from the agency’s four offices in Oklahoma City, Duncan, Enid, and Tulsa.
The backbone of the operation is Comfort
Keepers’ skilled nursing team, led by April Lopez, RN, who brings 20 years of clinical expertise in geriatric care and home health. The team of five nurses understand that caregiving goes beyond the clinical—it is about creating meaningful connections and supporting seniors’ physical, emotional, AND social well-being.
“At Comfort Keepers, we believe that care is most effective when it’s delivered with heart,” said Mrs. Lopez. “Our caregivers are screened and trained not only to assist with activities of daily living but to build relationships that improve and extend the lives of those we serve.”
Comfort Keepers offers a wide range of personal care and private duty nursing services, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and dementia care, incontinence care and mobility assistance. With a focus on individualized care plans and holistic well-being, the company is poised to become a trusted partner in senior care throughout Oklahoma.

If you ask any vendor in the craft fair community, the most desired shows to partake in have large crowds, low booth rent, massive advertising and compassionate coordinators. This is exactly what the foundation of The Santa Market was modeled after.
Unhappy with the show choices available, Joan Clarke and Molly Nye decided to start a show of their own. Along with fellow coordinator Megan Nye, they found a few vendors, rented a banquet room at a local hotel, and The Santa Market was born. That one-room show has grown into one of the largest craft shows in the metro. Each year the show has added more vendors, expanded in location and increased in attendance.
By the third year, Molly, Joan and Megan decided that the amount of year-round work that goes into the show should benefit a cause very close to them. Joan’s husband and Megan’s father, Russ, passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2007. Molly suggested they make The Santa Market a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma. In the fifteen years since, the show has raised over $350,000.00 for Alzheimer’s. It is a Gold Level Sponsor of the OKC Walk to End Alzheimer’s; and in 2015, The Santa Market received the Channel 4 Pay It Forward Award. In 2019, The Santa Market, Inc. was formed and is now a certified 501(c)(3).
The Santa Market is one of the best holiday shopping events of the year. This year it will be held at the OKC State Fair, Park Pavilion Building. While it is three ladies who work tirelessly to run The Santa Market, it could not be done without all the help of the quality vendors, loyal customers, volunteers, sponsors and donors. The organizers call it The Santa Market Family, and we hope you will be a part of it.

With fourteen Oklahoma locations by the end of the year, Nerve Renewal Neuropathy Clinics are making effective pain relief more accessible to Oklahomans across the state.
“We’re opening these clinics because so many people find real relief - meaning less pain, better mobility, and a return to daily life,” said Tim Bales, owner of Nerve Renewal Neuropathy Clinics. “We’ve worked hard to bring effective neuropathy care closer to home, so patients don’t have to travel far to get the help they need.”
Peripheral neuropathy occurs when nerves outside the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to weakness, numbness, and pain, often in the hands and feet. This condition can severely limit daily activities, increasing the risk of falls and reducing overall quality of life. According to the Cen ters for Disease Control, falls among adults 65 and older led to over 38,000 deaths in 2021 and nearly 3 million emergency room visits. Research indicates that neuropathy prevalence rises with age, affecting nearly 40% of older adults.
Nerve Renewal’s goal is to improve Oklahomans’ quality of life through safe, effective treatments that don’t rely on additional medications or sur gery. The clinic offers targeted Neuro modulation, a technique that applies gentle electrical stimulation to block pain and increase blood flow. This
method has shown an 80% success rate in reducing pain for patients.
Bobbie Gunn came to Nerve Renewal due to chronic pain in her shoulders.
“My biggest hesitation was that I didn’t realize they could treat more
Patients receive customized treatments lasting about 30 minutes, twice a week, with a day of rest between sessions. Progress is carefully monitored with evaluations, including a pain level questionnaire. “I started at a 10,” Bobbie said, “and now I’m down to a 5. It’s amazing to see my improvement measured.”
For those suffering from chronic pain due to nerve damage, arthritis, or past injuries, Nerve Renewal offers a comprehensive approach to relief. Whether patients experience numbness in their feet or joint pain that makes movement difficult, the clinic’s treatments can help restore function and improve daily life.
Beyond the treatments, Nerve Renewal stands out for its welcoming environment. “The staff is superb,” Bobbie noted. “The nurses always take your blood pressure and check on you, and everyone is consistently outstanding. It’s not just the staff—the patients are friendly too. It feels like a supportive community.”
On Nerve Renewal’s website, patients
tell their stories of what life is like after therapy. “No one should be forced to live in pain,” said Bales. “Active, healthy seniors are an essential part of strong communities and families. We love to hear about how our patients are rediscovering their passions now that they aren’t trapped by pain.”
Patients do not need a referral from their doctor, and treatments are covered by most major insurers, including Medicare and Medicaid.
