73 PROFESSIONAL PROFILES: Women in Real Estate

This series of special promotions, highlighting outstanding women in Central Florida, focuses on women who are accomplished and dedicated to their careers and community.

Ever Expanding Circles

Informal women’s groups have evolved — especially since the pandemic years. No longer only consisting of tight-knit, longstanding friends with a lot in common, I see growing pods of women who may be very different, totally new acquaintances who come together for a mission, a moment, a mutual interest.

Over the past year I have been invited into new circles — some created a while ago and others more recently formed. Some may exist for a short — even for a specific event — period while others may go on for years. It doesn’t really matter as each of these squads provides a resource for support, camaraderie, and even a couple of laughs. They are less about cliques and cliches and more about more meaningful connections.

After bringing together four women for the MAY/JUNE cover shoot, another circle

was born. Kate and I, along with Jill Vaughan (who had introduced their stories to us), were asked to join Daralene Jones, Sue Chin, Elizabeth Grace and Jamie Merrill at Sue’s restaurant, The Osprey. For a few hours we shared, listened, enjoyed a meal together, and united over travel, hectic schedules and kids.

The very next week I was in another, larger circle with Central Florida women attending and being honored at The Women’s Edge Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Florida luncheon in Dania Beach. More than a dozen of us decided to take the Brightline

down and back, enabling hours of conversation before and after the event. At the luncheon as the countdown scrolled on the screens, we cheered loudly for each other and ended with a celebratory toast at the reception.

I find these professional and personal circles melding more and more. And that’s a good thing. To be a better participant, I am trying to leave the camera behind and instead of always working the room, work into more candid exchanges.

The Women’s Edge Top 100

Women-Led Businesses in Florida

ANNUAL

AWARD HIGHLIGHTS WOMEN BUSINESS LEADERS WHO ARE MAKING A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE STATE’S ECONOMY.

The Women’s Edge recently recognized the 2025 Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Florida. The honorees were celebrated during a luncheon event at Le Meridien Dania Beach. The 100 organizations honored generated more than $40.5 billion in total revenue in 2024, demonstrating that women leaders continue to be key drivers of the state’s economy.

“The organizations on this year’s diverse list are driving billions of dollars of revenue into the Florida economy and innovation across the country, from breakthroughs in clinical care and therapeutics to innovation in travel,” says The Women’s Edge CEO Elizabeth L. Hailer. “We are honored to celebrate the Top 100 women leaders and hope it inspires others to drive for suc-

cess here in our region and beyond.”

This is the fourth year that The Women’s Edge — a non-profit organization devoted to advancing women in leadership positions— created the list through a nomination and review process for both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to revenue or operating budget, factors considered in the ranking included workplace and management diversity, board makeup and innovative projects.

Women in Central Florida were wellrepresented with 17 companies ranked in the top 100. And two of the three first annual Impact Awards were given to Mia Poinsette, The Poinsette Foundation, and Christi Ashby, Appeal Media & Events Group.

“The collective impact of Florida’s Top 100 Women-Led Businesses is nothing short of extraordinary. Together, these women are not just generating revenue — they are creating jobs, driving innovation, and shaping the economic future of our state. Their leadership proves that when women rise, entire communities and industries thrive,” says The Women’s Edge Executive Director, Florida, Lindse Murphy. “It gives me great joy to elevate and celebrate these impactful leaders and their organizations.”

Performing Arts Preview

Now is the time to secure season subscriptions for the 2025-2026 seasons of Opera Orlando, Orlando Ballet, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Central Florida Vocal Arts and Orlando Shakes.

Opera Orlando’s 10th anniversary season features three original productions — La Boheme, Silent Night, The Merry Widow — and a one-night-only concert entitled A Decade of Divas, all part of the On the MainStage series in Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Opera Orlando is bringing back All is Calm: the Christmas Truce of 1914, presented in partnership with Orlando Family Stage, and The Secret River, presented in partnership with Mead Botanical Garden, along with the company’s annual Summer Concert Series and The Mozart Dinner. Season packages for the Opera’s main stage productions start at $89. operaorlando.org

From the haunting elegance of Swan Lake to the seductive fire of Carmen, the Orlando Ballet’s 2025-2026 season blends beloved classics with bold contemporary works — including Balanchine’s brilliance in Balanchine, Godden, Gill, a reimagined Gatsby, and the beloved spirit of The Nutcracker. The Ballet will also continue its Uncorked series, which offers a rare glimpse into the artistic process as Orlando Ballet company dancers and artistic leadership bring new choreography to life in real time. Season subscriptions offer benefits like early access to The Nutcracker and Uncorked, reserved priority seating, and flexible ticket exchanges. orlandoballet.org

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2025-2026 season features an exciting lineup of performances across its Classics and Pops Series in Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts; Focus and Symphony Storytime Series at The Plaza Live; and a brand-new Family Day taking place in November 2025. The Pops Series celebrates the magic of music from film and broadway. A thrilling highlight from the Focus Series is the

fusion of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. With a diverse range of concerts that span from world premieres and symphonic masterpieces to beloved film scores and family-friendly performances, this season promises to inspire and entertain audiences of all ages. orlandophil.org

Central Florida Vocal Arts’ 2025–2026 season is themed Picture Perfect — Idealism On Stage. Now entering its 14th season, CFVA will present three mainstage productions — two at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and the last at Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts — that explore the concept of idealism through music and storytelling. From the golden-age charm of The Music Man to the emotionally resonant masterpiece Sunday in the Park with George, and a poignant operatic double bill featuring Susanna’s Secret and Trouble in Tahiti, this season invites audiences to examine the allure —and the illusions — of a “picture perfect” world. Season tickets and group packages are available at centralfloridavocalarts.org

Two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, a popular annual holiday tradition, and Shakespeare’s most famous love story will highlight Orlando Shakes’ 2025-2026 season. Orlando Shakes in partnership with UCF, Central Florida’s premiere professional regional theater, will feature five productions as part of its Signature Series, two children’s shows (The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show and Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical!), and its Christmas-time audience favorite, A Christmas Carol, in its 37th season. The mainstage season will kick off in August with Anna in the Tropics, the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama of love, longing and betrayal set in a Cuban cigar factory in Ybor City, 1929. Signature Series subscribers receive 20% off regular ticket prices among other perks. orlandoshakes.org

BEAUTY, BODY, SPIRIT:

The Right Messaging at the Right Moment

Ever have one of those experiences where you’re in a room full of people — all listening to the same speakers — but you feel like the message was tailor-made for YOU?

IT’S NOT FEASIBLE that Orange Appeal could’ve planned its BEAUTY BODY SPIRIT event just for me, but it certainly felt that way. I suppose that’s the goal when you’re in a room of high-achieving, goaloriented women who want to thrive in middle age; we’re all looking to redefine what beauty means, nurture our bodies to live longer, and seek to know ourselves better.

The half-day showcase at the Winter Park Events Center opened with vendors that ranged from opportunities to improve our wardrobes and jewelry boxes, enhance our aesthetics, or even give back to our neighbors. The room was buzzing with women of all professions and backgrounds, ready to feel inspired and learn from each expert panel.

BEAUTY

“Authenticity equals beauty,” makeup artist Tiffany Williams offered when describing what beauty means to her. Beyond any trends, she encouraged the women in the room to do the same as she urges her clients

— to embrace what makes them unique and prefers to enhance rather than cover.

Speaking of enhancements, Karen Buckalew, APRN-C, owner of Boutiq Medical Clinic, told us all about new, non-surgical treatments for anti-aging of the neck and face. Her office offers the Emface nonsurgical facelift, noting that when you feel great in your skin, you radiate confidence.

Aesthetician, certified life coach and author Christine Rizzo boiled down beauty to one word: gratitude. It’s not just a buzzword — science has proven that gratitude has a positive impact on your physique as well as your mind, thanks to the release of dopamine and serotonin. Gratitude can also reduce stress and improve sleep, creating a well-rested appearance.

BODY

“There really is empowerment in doing something for yourself,” said board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stephenie Poris during the BODY panel. As someone who is working to love my postpartum body at

age 38, hearing from a leading expert about all the ways she can help her clients feel and look their best got my wheels turning about my own goals.

Nutritionist Jayne Williams gave practical advice on the best ways to break your fast each day in order to promote blood sugar balance and gut-balancing hormones, and spoke at length about the importance of fiber.

Dr. Lindsay Kissane, a urogynecologist with AdventHealth and pelvic floor warrior, echoed the fiber advice (hello, digestive health!) and emphasized the importance of maintaining your pelvic muscles as we age. She also keyed-in on happiness — and how the pursuit of contentment impacts all areas of our health. “Do the things, on a daily basis, that make you happy,” Dr. Kissane shared. Solid advice.

SPIRIT

“Life is too important to waste on myself.”

This quote from Dr. Kirsten Carter of Grace Medical Home gave me chills. As a

BEAUTY panel moderator Carey Sheffield with Christine Rizzo, Tiffany Willams and Karen Buckalew, APRN-C
BODY panel moderator Allison Walsh with Dr. Stephenie Poris, Dr. Lindsay Kissane and Jayne Williams

longtime advocate for the underserved and underrepresented, I wholeheartedly agree that you get back tenfold what you give of yourself to the world and your community. She spoke passionately about her life’s work and mission-driven approach to help some of the most vulnerable among us.

HR executive Karla Muniz spoke from the perspective of a people-leader, noting that her success can be attributed to starting with the human in human resources. She urged other business leaders and employers to create access for their teams to resources that will make their jobs — and lives — easier, and lead with heart.

As if the SPIRIT panel wasn’t impactful enough, I have to end with one of my personal sheroes and someone who challenges me to think creatively and colorfully — Ansley Highland, the self-proclaimed Chief Sparkle Fairy at Dora Mae Jewelry. She talked about her team and their ongoing effort to create with ‘ease and flow’ by taking the time to tune into your true self. Their commitment to staying true to the Dora Mae brand is evident in every gorgeous piece they create (or re-create!).

Wonder Woman: KAREN CORBIN

The absolute highlight of the day was the keynote luncheon, where our own Central Florida Wonder Woman Karen Corbin, PhD, taught us all a lesson in listening to your GUT, and using your voice.

Dr. Corbin, a clinical translational scientist at AdventHealth, weaved a beauti-

ful story about growing up in Florida after moving with her family from Puerto Rico, and all the challenges she faced as a young girl with an accent — challenges that kept her quiet for a long time. She found a love of science and excelled, launching her into a field where women only make up about a third of the workforce — and for Hispanic women like her, only about 16%.

Scientists are not known for being in the spotlight, and Dr. Corbin was content with that. She had been told her whole life to tone down her personality, and that silence was safe. But as she grew in her profession, she strengthened her public speaking muscle through regular presentations and worked her way into a niche of science communications.

Then, the COVID-19 pandemic thrust scientific voices into the international spotlight like never before.

“The voices of scientists can literally save lives,” Dr. Corbin reflected. “This hit me right in the face during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is our duty to communicate, and silence is not an option.”

She worked to hone her skills and shared her expertise with others, often turning to social media to share breakthroughs in scientific research. Then, when her own team made a major discovery in the area of gut health — that gut health had an impact on one’s weight and that the gut microbiome could be manipulated through diet — her social media posts led to interviews by the Washington Post, radio shows,

podcasts, and TV interviews; not just on the research, but on her journey as a Hispanic woman in STEM.

“Even when your light is barely there, shine it anyway. Muster the courage to shine it just a tiny bit brighter,” she said.

Listening to her gut, and learning to speak out, created a major impact in the area of gut health.

“Imagine if I had stayed silent,” she summed up.

SAVE THE DATE… BEAUTY BODY SPIRIT

2026 is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the Winter Park Events Center.

Karla Ray spent more than a decade fighting for the underserved as an investigative reporter and waking up Central Florida as a local news anchor. Her work led to significant changes, including legislation requiring regulations and standards for safehouses serving survivors of human trafficking.

Karla’s reporting was recognized with 10 Emmy nominations, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and an Associated Press Award.

Karla has a new role helping families create and preserve legacies through estate planning and long-term care planning as a business development manager for Florida’s largest elder law firm. Her goal remains the same — to serve others and create change in our community.

AN A DVENT H EALTH FOR WOMEN SERIES

Kristen Toth Embraces Community & Care

Kristen Toth, MS, may be new to the Central Florida area but she’s already making waves in this community by donating her time and talents to nonprofit organizations she’s passionate about and bringing her innovative ideas and leading a talented team for women’s healthcare services as the Vice President of AdventHealth for Women.

I“have worked in the women’s and children’s space my entire career. I finished graduate school at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. With a master’s degree in statistics, I had no intent of working in healthcare but it just sort of happened through networking and meeting people. My formal education has taught me to be a good problem solver,” Kristen explains.

She’s a native Tennessean who got recruited to pilot a program at Ascension health care in Nashville. A strong history of working with OB/GYNs, pediatricians and the Nashville community ultimately led to her position as Vice President, Women’s, Children’s and Oncology at Saint Thomas Health, part of Ascension.

She got connected with AdventHealth through a former colleague and eventually was offered the inaugural VP of women’s role. “If you told me a year ago that we’d be uprooting and living in Florida, I would have laughed at you, but we love it here,” she says.

Kristen husband’s, Marty, who owns his own business, was incredibly supportive of the move and made the transition easy. Their daughter, Maddie, 18, just finished

her freshman year in college and is looking forward to spending the summer with them in Florida, while their son, Preston, 17, is thriving at his new high school.

“The thing I have been most impressed with is how connected AdventHealth is in the community. It is great to see AdventHealth at so many events and partnered with so many nonprofits throughout greater Orlando. I love to volunteer and give back of my time and AdventHealth has made that so easy,” she adds.

She recently joined the board of directors for Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. “I remember when I was interviewing for the board position, they asked, ‘why would you want to be part of Make-A-Wish?’ And I said, who wouldn’t want to be part of Make-A-Wish? You get to make dreams come true for deserving children,” Kristen explains. She also looks forward to being the 2026 chair-elect for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Luncheon and will chair the event in 2027.

Because her children are older, Kristen often brings them along to her volunteer events, another way she balances her commitments to community, work and

family. “We have busy days at work and sometimes you do miss things but hopefully you miss fewer than you make. I have some days that start really early and some days that go really late, but I am able to manage my schedule. AdventHealth prioritizes family so I’m able to block time for my son’s baseball games,” she says.

They are a big baseball family and split their fandom between the Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers (where Marty is from). With a goal to visit every MLB stadium in the country, they are looking forward checking off Tampa and Miami stadiums this summer. Family is important and they prioritize trips back up to Knoxville to visit Kristen’s parents.

She continues to develop and mentor the women’s services team at AdventHealth. “I’ve been really blessed to have some incredible women leaders, and I feel it’s my responsibility to pay that forward and give that time to them,” she explains. “When we choose to be pro-women and care about and invest in them, it’s such a better world to live in.”

Two areas of focus for the team are creating more access to prenatal care (Florida ranks 51 out of 51) and helping

women navigate perimenopause/menopause. “There are so many changes that happen to women during that time. Women are really wanting to be empowered and take control of their health. We’re trying to learn what does expert menopause care look like so that we can build a program that women would want to come to and that they would feel seen and heard,” Kristen says.

Her first introduction to the Central Florida community was attending the 2024 Orlando Women’s Conference. This year she will be moderating The Future of Health and Wellness panel at the 2025 Orlando Women’s Conference scheduled for Tuesday, September 9. Learn more on page 75.

ADVENTHEALTH FOR WOMEN:

Let’s Talk: Menopause

The symptoms of menopause can feel like just another adjustment to the aging process. But they don’t have to be. The best approach to menopause is to be proactive. Looking for lifestyle and medicinal solutions to your menopause issues will help you feel in control of your health.

Some of the first adjustments to managing menopause can be made on your own, including changing your lifestyle, healthy eating, getting enough sleep, exercising and, if relevant, stopping smoking. If you’re looking for medicine to help address your menopause symptoms, you have two options: over-the-counter medicine or prescription therapies. Menopause is a natural milestone. But that doesn’t mean you have to accept hot flashes, bone loss and other symptoms. Working closely with a provider that encourages an open dialogue is the best place to start when navigating the perimenopause and menopause journey.

If you need to find a provider, our Women’s Health Navigators are here to help. This complimentary service can help you find a location or provider who fits your needs. Call 407-720-5191 or visit HerHealthNavigator.com.

tastes&experiences

flavors to savor

Cozy, warm and inviting, Sparrow Wine Bar & Lounge recently debuted in downtown’s North Quarter featuring a thoughtfully curated selection of wines, craft cocktails, small plates and entrées. Chef Wendy Lopez, who used her Mexican roots to create the Reyes (a couple of doors away) cuisine, dove into her Spanish heritage — with nods to Southern European flavors — with this latest offering from Good Salt Restaurant Group. Early favorites include the mushroom patê, Caesar carpaccio, sole meunière and Basque cheesecake with Valencia orange. sparroworlando.com

COASTAL APPEAL: Vintage & Vibrant La Concha Key West

Quirky, eclectic, iconic and nostalgic: Key West is all of these and more. Which is why so many return to the Conch Republic (the 1982 movement to secede is still celebrated) and the unhurried, casual, laid-back small town they remember. Several days a week the population swells — especially down Duval Street — as cruise ships make daytime stops. But locals informed us that the business is welcomed.

The decision to drive or fly is not one I have to even consider as it will always be a memorable car trip for me. Flying may be quicker and more convenient, but key hopping gets your attitude adjusted with miles and miles of ocean views and glimpses of old Florida.

No matter where you stay in Key West, the rich, historic references are everywhere — from the Cuban cultural influences (in particular cigars and the San Carlos Institute) to the tales of rum runners and literary legend Ernest Hemingway. Freedom is also a big part of the story and that is aptly illustrated by the roaming roosters. At the center of it all is Duval Street, which stretches north to south from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean.

One of the oldest places to visit is the newly renovated La Concha Key West (a National Historic Landmark) anchored at the center of Duval. Originally opened in 1926 as a luxury property with marble floors and private baths, the powdery pink façade beckons travelers to revisit bygone eras through thoughtful interior design that captures the essence of Key West.

Much like a curated cocktail, it’s a shot of writer’s retreat with a dash of Cuban coffee shop and exotic rum bar, and a splash of a tropical pool oasis within a vessel of classic elegance and modern amenities.

A morning stop at the domino-themed El Dom Café will get you charged up for the day with a variety of coffees and bites of traditional fare such as empanadas and croquettas. For heartier fare, Perla offers Cuban cuisine (breakfast and dinner) with a Key West flair in an open garden-like setting overlooking the lobby. Tropicados, the classic mojito bar, features a variety of cocktails and wines with tapas inspired by Spanish tropical flavors. It’s also where you will find Papa’s Pilar Rum and the hotel’s signature house sherry cask-finished rum served with a side of insider knowledge.

Executive Chef Juan Cuadra oversees the new culinary outlets that specialize in a signature tropical, Cuban and Spanish style, cooking with sustainable, farm-totable ingredients and a refreshing, creative beverage program. We enjoyed a few recommendations brought to us by Sous Chef David Bagner including Pilar Rum mussels (with a little Sambuca), a whole catch of the day, and short ribs.

Up on the pool deck, appropriately dressed in pinks, cabanas and chaise loungers gently coax you into relaxation mode while the bar lures you with refreshing sips and light bites. The conch shell call (at 4pm) will let you know it’s happy hour. The rooftop floor, which has been everything from a nightclub to a spa, is now seven villas that offer a new, concierge-level experience and are designed to indulge guests with unexpected luxuries and signature hospitality with floorto-ceiling windows taking full advantage of the views from the tallest building in

the heart of the city.

Just inside the lobby, Epicurean Market offers fresh, gourmet grab-n-go items, local Key West goods like La Rubia Panama Hats, hand-made jewelry, Sandals & Rodriguez Cigars, and La Concha branded apparel. La Concha’s location makes it ideal for walking to shops and restaurants, but they also have bikes if you want to adventure further. The hotel, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, melds the glamour, charm and intrigue from the past with the comfort and conveniences of the present, making it a perfect place to stay and play.

COASTAL APPEAL:

Sunsets & More at Ocean Key

If your dreams include cotton candy-colored sunsets with tropical cocktails in hand, then Ocean Key Resort & Spa is the dreamy destination for you. Located at Key West Harbor and Mallory Square — 0 Duval Street — in the heart of old Key West, it affords a nightly show as the sun slowly sinks silhouetting the rooftops and palms of Sunset Key as well as the masts and sails of cruising boats. It simply doesn’t get old — and it’s never exactly the same.

Part of the Noble House collection of properties, Ocean Key received numerous awards in 2024 from prestigious publications including Travel + Leisure, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, Condé Nast Traveler and Wine Spectator. With 100 deluxe, oversized rooms and suites, the

resort remains a popular place to stay. Just steps away from water activities, shopping, dining and more, you can be entertained for days without getting into a vehicle.

Relaxing and welcoming, guests are offered a fruity cocktail at the Madda Fella Rum Bar upon arrival before heading through luscious landscaping to the guest

rooms. Your first stop after settling in might be the Sunset Pier where the sounds of live music and lively conversations waft through the breezy air.

Two of our favorites on-site are the pool area overlooking the waters where the Gulf and Atlantic meet and the gourmet restaurant Hot Tin Roof that pays homage to one of Tennessee Williams’ most famous plays. For cooling off in the afternoon after exploring, Liquid Pool Bar & Lounge serves up a variety of sippers along with food and snacks. Drinks are served in eco-conscious, recyclable aluminum cups that also keep the liquid chilled. The staff is attentive, offering chaise-side service so you don’t even have to get up from your chair. It’s a very social scene and we often find ourselves chatting with other guests from all over the country — many of whom are repeating a visit.

A leisurely breakfast at Hot Tin Roof, with views of fishing boats and wave runners heading out for the day, gets you ready for whatever is on the agenda. And sunset

dinners are divine with Chef de Cuisine Scott Maurer’s plates of local seafood and land fare prepared in the unique culinary style of “conch-fusion,” combining traditional Florida with Caribbean influences. The menu features a wide selection of produce items from coffee-dusted cauliflower to spring vegetable panzanella. The small plates range from kofte baharat lamb chop to seared black grouper. And large plates include a 12-ounce pork shank osso bucco and plantain-crusted swordfish. Each time

we have dined there have been multiple couples celebrating anniversaries, which the staff acknowledge with special signs.

Additional amenities of the resort are the luxurious Spaterre with treatments that combine Eastern wellness practices with indigenous oils and herbs and Madda

Fella (Caribbean slang used to express surprise or astonishment) boutique filled with tropical wear for men.

With plenty of on-property experiences and its convenient location, Ocean Key is simply sublime.

COASTAL APPEAL: Quiet Luxury in Vero Beach

Coste d’Este Beach Resort & Spa makes unwinding and chilling by the sea easy and breezy. Unlike other Vero Beach properties — many reflective of old Florida — Coste d’Este’s owners Gloria and Emilio Estefan have brought some of Miami’s style to the area as reflected in the architecture, décor and furnishings that create a sophisticated, yet relaxed, aesthetic throughout the boutique resort.

From the sweeping front entrance punctuated with a sculptural fountain wall and artistic logo façade, everything is understated luxury. The twin five-story towers are connected via the lobby that is filled with striking lighting and exquisitely layered textures leading to the curved structure resembling a wooden cage that houses The Wave Kitchen & Bar. Inside is a bright red piano reflecting the Estefans’ musical heritage. The menu is infused with Cuban flavors including the Paella a la Costa, chargrilled Spanish octopus with chorizo, local seasonal fish ceviche, Cuban-style roasted chicken and roasted pork along with hand-cut, certified black angus steaks. Appetizers, salads and sides are also available.

Outside, the expansive deck, alfresco dining spots and beachside Cabana Bar provide plenty of options for guests from

casual dining and classic cocktails to cooling dips in the infinity pool or plunges in the hot tub. A few steps down to the sand and shore, you can enjoy a lounge chair under an umbrella with bar and food service. For more fun on the water, stand-up paddle boards, ocean kayaks and snorkeling rentals are available.

Off the beach, the C|SPA at Costa d’Este offers a serene and soothing escape. You can choose from massages, facials and body treatments, but I always go with a massage if I am a little stressed or overwhelmed (pretty much always). My therapist Ilene asked thoughtful questions — yes, I would go with the calming aromatherapy and instinctively knew where I needed some tension relief.

From a simpler mani or pedi to more extensive services such as the specially offered signature Glacial Glow Facial (cooling Gua Sha cryo rollers, marine collagen

and a hyaluronic acid-rich gel mask) and Cool Coconut Escape Massage (with tropical coconut oils to hydrate sun-kissed skin) offered through the end of July, you will leave pampered and polished with a glow to remember.

For me, getting up early and enjoying

the complimentary coffee in the lobby before heading out for a solitary beach walk on the shell-covered sand was the best. And the short drive from Central Florida makes it a very convenient getaway. If you do want to go off-site — although it’s not necessary — a walk down the beach or the street out front will yield plenty of charming dining and shopping spots.

Water spurred major inspiration across contemporary ceramic design this season, flooding the scene with color palettes of soft aquas and pastels to deep sea, ethereal hues. Patterns, textures, and fluid, smooth forms reminiscent of sea waves are brought to life through three-dimensional reliefs, traditional brushstrokes, masterful glazing techniques, and distinct shading effects, along with prefabricated ceramic furnishings including blue washbasins and sanitary ware.

DISCRETE TECH

As AI and smart home technology advance, the domestic automation sector is also rapidly growing, with a focus on enhancing quality of life and energy efficiency. Modern tiles now incorporate features like pressuresensitive LED lighting and induction cooking, making it easier to blend cuttingedge technology with elegant design.

COLORS OF SAND

The world is known for rich colors as well as calming hues of sand on and near beaches, dunes, deserts, ocean floors, and other sites and places. With a warm and often calming palette, the colors of sand are earnest and neutral, portraying the essence of a natural, earthy and eco-friendly environment. So too does ceramic tile in the colors of sand give rise to peaceful, relaxing and eye-catching atmospheres. Sand-inspired tile colors stem from the color wheel’s warmer and lighter side of the brown spectrum, extending from off-white and cream to golden beige, tawny, fulvous and tan. The design and installation options with tile in a range of colors inspired by sand are limitless, as evidenced by nearly infinite product selections seen in widely popular indoor and outdoor applications around the globe.

VEINS OF GOLD

The opulence of marble-look tile is elevated to brilliant new heights with a touch of gold. Creamy stone looks accentuated by rich golden veining radiate warmth and grandeur, bringing a touch of luxury to any setting. Innovative glaze applications allow for metallic variations that reflect just enough light to strike the balance between dazzling and demure.

LINES, LINES, LINES

This season, it’s all about lines. Thanks to impressive innovations in 3D technologies, these decorative details — whether it be striped, ribbed or fluted looks — create dynamic volumes and plays of light and shadow with contrasting materials and colors, adding depth and character into a space; while geometric patterns and bold stripes bring moments of movement and intrigue.

The Wedding of Molly Little and Joe Ramsberger

Lora Videography Florals: Emerald Gardenia Dress: Calvet

Their story: “I grew up just four houses down from Joe in College Park, where we often played together with the other neighborhood kids,” Molly explains. She moved to San Diego with her family for a few years before returning to Orlando for high school. Molly and Joe went to different high schools and colleges. “After college, we both returned to Orlando but didn’t reconnect until October 2021, when mutual friends brought us back into each other’s lives. What began as a rekindled friendship quickly turned into something more,” she says.

The proposal: “Joe proposed to me in my parents’ backyard — the very same yard where we had shared childhood memories. That house holds even deeper roots as it once belonged to my great-grandparents. Joe spent months carefully planning every detail with our families and a photographer. The proposal took place on the dock overlooking the lake, creating a special, intimate moment for the two of us. After I said yes, we celebrated with a surprise dinner at The Ravenous Pig with our families. It was truly an unforgettable evening!” Molly shares.

Ceremony and reception: The couple’s ceremony was held at Knowles Memorial Chapel in Winter Park. “We were blessed to have Father Miguel González officiate our ceremony. Our reception took place at the incredible Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando. The night before, we had a welcome party at the Winter Park Farmers’ Market. The weekend was truly special thanks to the support of our wonderful family, friends and vendors,” she explains.

Personal thoughts: All weekend, I felt excited and deeply grateful for everyone who showed up to celebrate with us. Joe and I both got ready in our childhood homes, which brought a comforting sense of calm and familiarity that helped set the tone for the rest of the day. My favorite moment was our first look outside of Knowles Chapel, before any of our guests arrived. In that quiet moment, we exchanged our private vows, a deeply personal part of the day that felt entirely our own.

Where they are now: “We recently bought our first home in College Park, just around the corner from both of our parents. As we continue to grow in our careers, me in marketing and Joe in commercial real estate, we look forward to starting a family in the neighborhood where we both grew up,” Molly says.

The Wedding of Emily Griggs and Jordan Cole

Their story: “We met in true Covid fashion through the dating app Bumble. Little did we know we were living less than half a mile from each other. We went on our first date at Agave Azul [Winter Park] and stayed until they closed, getting to know each other. We still laugh about our server being too nice to kick us out, but we eventually got the hint!” Emily explains.

The proposal: To throw Emily off, Jordan told her he was going “golfing” on a Sunday. “An hour later, my Matron of Honor Marley showed up to my house and told me to ‘get ready and wear something white.’ He surprised me with our immediate family and then with all our friends for an after party.” she says.

Ceremony and reception: The couple married at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes. “We wanted something that felt timeless, romantic and personal. We cared the most about the food, flowers and music, all of which were perfect. It ended up raining all morning while getting ready, but everything cleared just in time to give us the most perfect day,” Emily shares.

Personal thoughts: I was strangely calm. I just felt excited to marry my best friend! I was with all my best friends, mom and sisters that morning and felt so thankful to have them with me. All I was focused on was getting to see Jordan once I had my dress on. I was so happy the whole day, and then during our private last dance, it all hit me, and I (finally) cried so many happy tears! –Emily

Throughout the day it is just like you hear about. Anxious, nervous, excitement, etc. Emotions change constantly as you get closer to the moment you are inevitably waiting for. However, no one tells you about how calm you feel in the very instance you see your future wife walking down the aisle. From then on, the amount of happiness and joy I felt was unprecedented. I will treasure those moments for the rest of my life. –Jordan

Where they are now: The newlyweds recently moved to Tampa and purchased their first home together. Emily works in her family’s business, and Jordan works in sales. “Our kitty, Tiger, has been loving his new home, and we look forward to spending many more years here as a family,” she says.

Their story: “Nathan and I met through my sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Brian Calahan, who fancy themselves successful matchmakers. Nathan was a fraternity brother of Brian’s at Georgia Tech,” Katie explains. Nathan and Katie traveled to meet each other for their first date in Atlanta in January 2022. They began dating long-distance after that weekend. The proposal: Nathan proposed in May 2024 at Rollins. “He was very set on taking a tour of the campus and I was hesitant because even though I am a graduate of Rollins, I do not know the campus well. He set up an afternoon date with stops along Park Avenue followed by his self-guided tour of Rollins. He proposed in the garden by the chapel and had a photographer on hand to capture the moment,” she says.

Ceremony and reception: Their ceremony was at Knowles Memorial Chapel with the reception following at Rice Family Pavilion at Rollins College. “Our theme was ‘Garden Party’ based off of my favorite Rifle Paper Co. print. It was a wonderful sunny day to marry the love of my life and celebrate with our family and friends,” Katie shares.

Personal thoughts: Overall, I felt both happy and relaxed. We were surrounded by the best family and friends who made the whole weekend special. We were also lucky to have some of the best vendors in the business who executed everything seamlessly. I know this is a cliché, but it was the perfect day.

Where they are now: The newlyweds are living in Winter Springs with their Australian Labradoodle, Macaron.

Their story: Michael and Betsy met through mutual friends and were surprised they hadn’t crossed paths before since they share an Orlando background. “We both felt a connection instantly and knew we had found love in one another. Our courtship was fast and full of fun, traveling and spending time with each other’s families,” Betsy explains.

The proposal: Michael proposed in their backyard, surrounded by rose petals. “I knew it was coming, and he did his best to surprise me. I thought I heard the Ring doorbell go off, so I looked out the window and saw my sister-in-law running through the yard with a camera! I figured she was there to hide and take pictures. I laughed to myself as I waited for Michael to knock on the door. A few seconds later, he did and brought me outside, where he asked me to marry him. It was perfect!” she says.

Ceremony and reception: The wedding was held at the Country Club of Orlando. The ceremony was outside in the courtyard under string lights and the reception followed in the ballroom. “The day was magical. We were blessed with great weather. The theme of the wedding was bright and colorful. I knew I wanted vibrant florals, and my wedding planner and florist brought everything to life. We also brought a Greek flare to the day, as Michael is Greek. We served Greek appetizers and had olive branch swigs on the menu cards. My favorite part of the day was the dancing! I don’t think we left the dance floor all night,” she shares.

Personal thoughts: I woke up and saw the date on my phone and was full of excitement. I couldn’t believe the day had finally arrived, and I was over the moon. I got ready with my best friends and couldn’t have asked for a better day.

Where they are now: Michael and Betsy live in College Park, Orlando. Michael works for his family business in Ormond Beach, and Betsy loves going with him to the beach every so often.

WEDDING TRENDS & RUNWAY SHOW 2025

An inspired wedding trends event at The Alfond Inn unveiled the latest in fashion, florals, décor and more, including a dazzling runway show featuring stunning designs by Leonardo 5th Avenue and The Bridal Finery; an educational panel with exclusive insights on 2025 wedding trends from industry experts; and an interactive champagne reception where guests sipped, mingled and celebrated the artistry of weddings.

“The inaugural Art of Weddings: Wedding Trends and Runway 2025 was an incredible success, bringing together the top wedding planners, brides and industry professionals in an unforgettable celebration of style and inspiration. The event truly elevated the standard for wedding showcases in Central Florida, reflecting The Alfond Inn’s commitment to elegance, innovation and community,” says Cathi Norris, Catering Sales Manager, The Alfond Inn.

Here is a recap from some of the participating experts.

Expressive Bridal Gowns

The 2025-2026 bridal season is all about personal expression. Brides are embracing their individuality and choosing gowns that truly reflect their unique style. We’re seeing a strong emphasis on accessories — everything from neck scarves to custom bolero pieces — adding a personalized touch to each look. This season’s trends also highlight intricate details on the gowns themselves, including textured, gathered bodices, dramatic Basque waists, and frothy, romantic trains. In addition to these statement details, bridal fashion is leaning into versatility and transformation. Detachable sleeves, overskirts and convertible elements allow brides to transition effortlessly from ceremony to reception. Soft pastels, bold floral appliqués and vintageinspired embellishments are also gaining popularity, giving brides even more options to express their personal aesthetic.

Fresh Approaches to Menswear

At The Art of Weddings, we highlighted several key fashion trends that bring a fresh and modern perspective to wedding attire for men.

One of the trends we talked about was color. We moved beyond traditional black and white, featuring rich shades like browns, blues ranging from light to midnight, and greens from lime to emerald. We also incorporated luxurious fabrics such as jacquards with interesting textures, adding depth and dimension to classic silhouettes.

Accessories played a big role in this season’s looks. We featured oversized bow ties, statement brooches worn on lapels, ascots and exaggerated ties, all serving as bold alternatives for ceremonial accessories. Trousers also saw a shift toward a more relaxed and comfortable structure without compromising elegance.

Another notable trend was the resurgence of the dinner jacket look, combining lighter-colored blazers with darker trousers, which is a fresh and versatile style that can seamlessly translate from day to night.

One of the most defining themes we showcased was quiet luxury. This movement embraces a minimalistic approach focused on impeccable tailoring, high-quality fabrics, and an overall polished aesthetic. It’s about understated elegance and garments that feel luxurious without being overly flashy, creating timeless looks for any gender.

Storytelling Florals

In today’s ever-evolving wedding landscape, floral design has stepped beyond the bouquet and onto center stage. No longer just a supporting role, flowers are now shaping entire wedding aesthetics, telling stories of sustainability, personality and modern romance. From wild, garden-style arrangements to monochromatic masterpieces, couples are turning to florals to make bold statements that reflect their style — and values. Here are some of the latest floral trends:

• Monochrome Magic: Single-color palettes — especially in bold hues like red, plum or terracotta — are making a major impact. These designs create drama through texture and scale rather than color variety, offering a modern, editorial look.

• Minimalism Meets Maximalism: Statement installations like floral clouds, suspended blooms, and floor-to-ceiling arches are more popular than ever. Paradoxically, these dramatic pieces often pair with simpler table arrangements and understated bouquets, creating balance.

• Unexpected Pairings: Think roses with anthurium, peonies with pampas grass, or ranunculus next to berries and fruit. Florists are blending structured and wild, fresh and dried, soft and sculptural to create arrangements that surprise and delight.

• Color Comeback: While neutrals still reign, vibrant palettes are gaining popularity — especially warm sunset tones, bold pinks, and even black accents for modern, moody vibes.

As weddings become more personal and design-driven, florals are at the forefront of that transformation. The blooms of today’s ceremonies and receptions are more than decoration — they’re narrative, nature and art, all woven into one unforgettable day.

Wedding Bands with Personality

With wedding bands, we are seeing more of an expression of personal style than a traditional wedding band theme. Think: color (hello rainbow sapphires from Sethi Couture, available at Be On Park), mixed metals, vintage, and alternative diamond shapes. Bands can easily be mixed and matched, so with wedding bands we are not afraid to have fun with it.
