Month-to-Month Plan

Visiting members to Taylor Y are welcome to use the facility by showing their valid YMCA membership cards.

Pay for the first month dues and then payment can automatically be deducted electronically from your checking/savings, Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express account. A cancellation request must be signed and returned at least 15 days prior to your draft date to cancel. A $15 fee will be charged for all membership dues returned from the bank or credit card company. Please note: There are no refunds and/or credits granted for NOT using your membership.

YOUTH POLICY Children 13 and older are permitted to be in the Y without a parent. Children 8-12 may be in the Primetime Center or gym or track if the parent is in the Y building. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent at all times when they are in the Y unless they are in a Y-supervised program. The Child Watch Center is available for member children under 8. See Child Watch information for more details. Other program areas may have restrictions on age.

Annual Pay for one year in full. Annual payments are nonrefundable.

Anyone with an Adult or family membership that is in good standing may put their membership on hold one time only during the calendar year for a maximum of three (3) months. The member must come in the YMCA 15 days before the requested hold date. The fee for a membership hold is $25. For more information, please consult the Member Services Desk.

POOL POLICY Anyone under the age of 18 must take a deep water test. In order to use the pool you MUST have a band showing you passed. Bands are distributed at the front desk.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS Once you have joined the Taylor Family Y, you will be issued a membership key tag. It is a valuable piece of identification and must to be brought with you every time you come to the Y. A replacement key tag is $5. Individuals falsifying membership and/or allowing others to use their key tag will be subject to membership suspension or termination.

CREDIT & REFUND POLICY Taylor Y will credit or refund program fees under the following circumstances: Taylor Y cancels a class due to insufficient enrollment A participant is unable to attend for medical reasons. A physician’s statement is required and the refund will be pro-rated if necessary. There are no refunds or credits for missed classes.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS While our staff makes every effort to promote and implement all classes offered, we reserve the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment or circumstances deemed an Act of God (snow storm, loss of electricity, etc.). In case of cancellation, an attempt will be made to contact affected participants by phone or email (assuming we have that information) as soon as we are aware of the need to cancel. We follow U-46 weather-related school closings. If U-46 is closed, all Y programs are cancelled.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Taylor Y provides youth, adults and families with demonstrated need the opportunity to join the YMCA via a scholarship program. This program is supported through contributions to our annual WE BUILD PEOPLE CAMPAIGN. Scholarship funds are awarded to those in need based on available resources.

These classes follow guidelines developed by SuperSitters, Inc. and are taught jointly by Yqualified educators. Topics covered include safety, first aid, and what to do in emergency situations.

While you’re working out your child can enjoy arts & crafts, stories, games and much more! For your convenience, Taylor Y offers FREE Child Watch to family members. If you do not have a family membership, a fee of $3 per hour is charged.

Participants will also receive training in basic American Red Cross infant/child CPR and will receive a certification card by mail following successful completion of training. Each participant will also receive a Babysitting Training manual and First Aid manual developed by SuperSitters, Inc. Classes are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please bring a sack lunch. After class you are free to use our pool for open swim!

After School Achievement Academy

School Day Out Camps – Grades K-6 School Day Out programs will be offered on most days off from school (D-300 calendar) from 7:00 a.m. – 6 p.m. All medical forms must be on file prior to attendance. Registration and fees are due 5 days prior to attendance and are non-refundable. Camps offered until the end of the current school year include the following:

Gilberts Elementary School Registration is now underway for the 2013-2014 school year. After School Child care is available for children attending afternoon kindergarten through 5th grade. (Afternoon preschoolers age 5 by Thanksgiving will be accepted on a case-by-case basis if slots are available.) Our well-established program helps children build self-esteem, values and leadership skills. You will see them grow and explore their potentials; they will just think they’re having fun as we provide activities in the following areas: homework, health & fitness, character development, science, service learning, arts and humanities, literacy, and conflict resolution in large and small group settings. Our staff is trained in YMCA of the USA school age course and well as CPR and First Aid.

Prairie Valley Family Y will be hosting Parents’ Night Out for children 4 and over on the following dates: 10-11-13 11-08-13 12-06-13

1-17-14 2-07-14 3-14-14 4-11-14 Program will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Drop off at Gilberts YMCA or Taylor YMCA. Fee includes pizza, games, movies and swimming at Taylor. YOUTH FITNESS Our goal as an Activate America YMCA is to create healthy kids by encouraging exercise and providing the facilities necessary to do so.

Wellness Center Orientation Kids 10-13 (4’ 10� or taller) can learn how to use the equipment located in the Wellness Center but MUST have a prior orientation.

Group Orientations Group Orientations will start the 1st Monday or 1st Wednesday of each month and run for 4 weeks, 1hour each sessionc. Individuals must attend all four Orientation Days to use Wellness Center. Sessions run from 4:45-5:45 p.m. and start the following dates: 2013 September 8, September 10 October 6, October 8 November 3, November 5 December 1, December 3 2014 January 5, January 7 February 2, February 4 March 2, March 4 April 6, April 8 Fee: $10 for orientation

Individual orientations can be scheduled at the front desk. Four sessions with a trainer. Fee: $25 Group Exercise Please check schedule in Adult section of this program for classes which are also open to youth. A parent or guardian must participate in same class with child. FEE:

All About Swimming: SWIM TEAM All swimmers are welcome to join the YMCA Elgin Pelicans swim team, however, please keep in mind the following: All swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool front crawl, one length of the pool backstroke and have a positive attitude. All swim team members must be members of the Prairie Valley Family Y – Taylor Branch. This is a YMCA of the USA Competitive Sports Rule. The Pelicans compete in both YMCA and USA Swim meets. Participation in USA Swimming is optional. There is an additional fee for USA Swimming registration and meet(s) entries. To be eligible for the Short Course Championship meet, swimmers must swim in three closed YMCA meets and one sanctioned championship meet.

Swimmers will be placed in practice groups and lanes depending on skill level. Coaches have the final decision on where swimmers will be placed based on ability/attitude. Swimmers must purchase a team suit to be worn at swim meets only. Female swimmers must wear onepiece suits during practice. Male swimmers participating in Pre-Senior/Senior practice groups are encouraged to wear drag suits.

Registration Dates: September 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Taylor Family YMCA. Current swim team parents and coaches will be available to answer any questions.

For intermediate to advanced swimmers. Must have competitive swimming experience and have mastered all four strokes. Also, must have the ability to do pace work and interval training. All are expected to attend dry land and pool training. Swimmers are expected to attend all home meets, 50% of away meets and all championship meets they qualify for. Must be able to compete in 4 out of 6 of the following events and meet time requirements:

New swimmers must be evaluated by the head coach to determine the practice group which will best fit their abilities and provide a challenge. Anyone who cannot make the registration date listed above must make arrangements with the coach to be evaluated at another time.

If child is participating in another sport and would like to join swim team later, it is recommended to hold space on the team with a $50 deposit (subsequently credited to team fees).

Pre-Senior/Senior Practice 2 hrs. 5 x week (4 practices per week are required with occasional Saturday morning practices available) For advanced swimmers. Must have competitive experience, be able to swim all four competitive strokes, and have the ability to do pace work and interval training using a pace clock. Must also be able to commit to a rigorous workout program including weights (for ages 12 and over) as well as dry land and pool training. All are required to attend all home meets, 50% of the away meets and all Championship meets they qualify for. Must be able to compete in at least 5 out of the following 7 events and meet time requirements;

Polliwog: Ratio 1:8 This is a beginning level for school age children with little or no experience and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little or no formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke (on their front, back, and sides), kicking skills and be comfortable putting their face in the water. Guppy: Ratio 1:8 Children should be able to: • Front or back float 30 seconds • Paddle 25 meters on their front, back and side with IFD. • Jump in without assistance. • Be comfortable in deep water Minnow: Ratio: 1:10 Children should be able to: • Front and back float 1 minute. • Front alternating paddle 25 meters with rhythmic breathing. • Front symmetrical paddle 25 meters. • Back symmetrical paddle 25 meters. • Back alternating paddle 25 meters. • Side alternating paddle 25 meters. • Kneeling dive.

Shrimp/ Kipper/Inia/ Perch: This program is an introduction to the aquatic environment and designed to help the child understand the difference between moving around in the water and on dry land. Parents learn how to teach his/her child to be safer in and around the water. Games and songs are used to help the child have fun while learning. All instructors are YSL certified or training for YSL certification. SCUBA DIVING: Learn to SCUBA dive with the Sea Lions Dive Center! Upon completion of five classes/pool nights and two days of open water training, you will receive the P.A.D.I. Teen Tumblers Teens in Junior and Senior High School Beginner to advanced Students work progressively at their own/ group level POMS: Learn current jazz and pom moves, proper skills, technique and placement for routines that will be performed at our spring recital. This is a great preparation class for middle school and high school pom teams. UNIFORM FEE: $65.00 includes 1 costume, 1 set of poms and tights. The goal is for the student to attend class on their own. We encourage students to start in the fall and not wait until February. Much time is spent learning from September-February in order to put a complete routine together for the recital. In fact, some classes begin learning recital routines in January. Therefore, it is to everyone’s benefit to be in class the full season. Additionally, if your child consistently starts a program later in the year please be aware their class level will not move up as quickly as someone else and they may no longer be in class with the same students they have been in previous years.

Women’s Wellness Weekend

The purpose of these two programs is to foster companionship between parent and child. Structured to offer one-on-one quality time, the programs feature activities such as campouts, hayrides and Pine Derby car races. Dads and their children are organized into “Circles” with other dads and kids from their neighborhood areas. Once a month, each Circle will meet at a member’s house or school to do an activity with their child. Several Circles make up an “Expedition” which will have its own special events. We have two “Expeditions” that make up our “Federation.” The Princess Expedition is for dads and daughters in K-5th and Guides Expedition is for dads and sons K-5th.

Enjoy a weekend full of outdoor recreation, guest speakers, fitness classes , healthy food and great friends at Camp Edwards. American Red Cross Lifeguard Class If you’re15 or older and looking for a great job or even a challenging career, American Red Cross Lifeguarding is a good place to start. This course help you develop skills and experience valued by colleges and future employers. You’ll develop new skills and learn how to deal effectively with people, fostering a take-charge attitude. You will receive a participant’s manual as well as tips for securing a lifeguarding job. The new lifeguarding course manual incorporates the most recent lifeguarding skills, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and use of the Automate External Defibrillator (AED) as well as 1 st Aid. Presence Home Care Home Care provides skilled nursing; physical, occupational and speech therapies; medical social services; and assistance with personal care in the comfort and privacy of a home setting.
