Taycan sparks an undeniable passion with a Zero Impact Factory.

Porsche, as an undisputed leader in the automotive sphere, understands the importance of environment. There is no better place to display it than the company’s exceptional Zuffenhausen manufacturing facility which creates the Porsche Taycan.

Heritage meets the future with Taycan

“We have a level of responsibility for the environment and society. Production of the Taycan is already carbon-neutral. Heritage meets the future at our parent plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, which is the heart of the brand,” Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG said when the plant was launched. “We are committed to the climate protection targets agreed in Paris in December 2015 and have a clear responsibility to cut environmentally harmful emissions. However, our sustainability strategy goes much further than decarbonisation,” explains Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics of Porsche AG. “Porsche is pursuing the goal of a Zero Impact Factory – production without any negative impact on the environment.” With Zuffenhausen, the Taycan is making an important statement about electric driving and German engineering. It is important that everyone benefits from the technology and experiences.

Taycan is a four-door sports car housed in a unique package, offering Porsche performance and connectivity with everyday usability. This is a true Porsche for the age of electromobility – a fascinating sports car that not only excites in terms of its technology and driving dynamics, but also sparks a passion in people. Offering cutting-edge E-performance, the Taycan Turbo 4S, Turbo and Turbo S are among Porsche’s most powerful production cars. The flagship Turbo S can generate up to 560kW over-boost power in combination with Launch Control, the Taycan Turbo up to 500kW (680 PS), and the Turbo 4S 390kW. CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. The charging time for five to 80 percent SoC (state of charge) is 22.5 minutes under ideal conditions, with a maximum charging power of CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E 270kW. Conveniently, Taycan drivers can charge their cars with up to 22 kW of alternating current with the appropriate equipment.

The Zuffenhausen Experience

By 2022 Porsche will have invested more than six billion euros in electromobility. Of that more than 700 million went into the new production facility for the Taycan at Zuffenhausen, Germany. Production on the site is CO-neutral, the energy-efficient buildings fall well below the statutory energy requirements, and all roofs of the new buildings are landscaped and partly equipped with photovoltaic systems. The electrical energy used at Porsche comes from renewable sources. Biogas-powered combined heat and power plants supply the site with heat and additional electricity. Electrified logistics vehicles and rail transport powered by green electricity further reduce CO emissions in logistics. Added to this is a host of other measures, with which Porsche is pursuing the goal of the ‘Zero Impact Factory’, a production without environmental influences. Since 2014, Porsche has reduced vehicle-specific CO₂ emissions from production by more than 75 percent. Sustainability is one of the three pillars of Porsche Production 4.0 – smart, lean and green are today’s modern production methods. In addition to the ecological aspects (green) and the responsible and efficient use of resources (lean), Porsche Production 4.0 stands out for its transparency and networking (smart). As such, there is no classical assembly line in the production of the Taycan. Zuffenhausen was completely redesigned for Taycan production from the outset and Porsche has integrated groundbreaking production standards. The car is assembled on a Flexi-Line with driverless transport systems that move independently from station to station. This not only provides new freedom in the production plant, but also in the architecture of the new plant by dispensing with conveyor belts. Without a rigid assembly line, production can be modified at any time by integrating something new; alternatively, a bypass can be instigated to implement special customer requests.

In expanding and modernising the Zuffenhausen site, Porsche set new standards in sustainability. Plant 4, housing the new engine plant, the main site workshops and additional office space, received platinum certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). This recognises the economic, ecological, sociocultural and technical quality of the processes CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E used to build new or restructure existing industrial areas.

The first Porsche, the Type 356 that was produced at Zuffenhausen in 1950 by hand, laid the foundation for the successful history of the brand. What started many years ago with the brick building called Plant 1 has now grown into a site that covers an area of 614,000 m2 on which around 12,000 employees produce four-wheeled enthusiasm. CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E Zuffenhausen is the cradle of Porsche sports cars.

Right next to the site is the Greutterwald nature reserve, an important fresh-air corridor for the centre of Stuttgart. Porsche is actively involved in protecting endangered animal species there. These include the street known as Porschestrasse and the square called Porscheplatz. Porsche also supports an ongoing series of local projects in areas such as community welfare and nature conservation. • CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E CLIC K HERE TO LEARN MOR E
