Life’s a journey, and clearly there’s no better way to enjoy that odyssey than in a Porsche.

In this edition of Turbo Magazine, we’ll learn more about the rich insights Porsche can provide to our team whenever they’re striving for more.

Geunho Lee, more colloquially known simply as ‘Mr Lee’ here at Porsche Centre Brighton, graces our cover on the golf course.

Mr Lee’s work with us at Porsche Centre Brighton has been a significant source of inspiration to him and his family. He’s found a sense of balance with his love of golf, a passion which helps him appreciate the beauty of his new home in Australia.

Just as Mr Lee commenced his journey to becoming a Porsche Gold Technician in his native South Korea, I too started my Porsche journey overseas – in my case, Germany. Like him, I’ve flourished in Porsche Centre Brighton’s energising, inspiring environment. In the same vein, several new faces in our Porsche Centre Brighton team were born and have lived overseas. Their life journey will be similarly enriched as they begin their roles here with us, becoming valuable contributors in their respective areas over time.

Robert GATTEREDER

During our daily journey at Porsche Centre Brighton, we’re collectively motivated to enrich our skills while providing you with a peerless Porsche ownership journey. As well as our dedication to the technical aspects of Porsche ownership, we will always value the opportunity to share experiences and adventures with you.

Please enjoy this latest edition of Turbo Magazine, which we hope will accompany you on your unfolding Porsche journey. • 4

Porsche Revisits the Paris-Dakar

Porsche’s landmark 1984 Paris–Dakar Rally victory looms large in Porsche’s new 911 Dakar g

7

TheParis–Dakar was, and remains, by far the most arduous rally in the world. In 1984, the course ran 10,000 kilometres. That year, René Metge overcame the torrid desert heat, bringing his 911 home victorious after 19 days of punishing competition.

This new 911 Dakar pays homage to that first overall victory, an event also marking the birth of all-wheel drive in the Porsche 911.

As with the original Paris–Dakar 911, this car was tested extensively for 10,000 kilometres of off-road torture. After the development team tested the 911 Dakar on snow and ice in the hands of World Rally Champion Walter Röhrl, it was driven mercilessly across Dubai and Morocco over 50-metre sand dunes in temperatures of up to 45°C.

‘The 911 Dakar delivered a commanding performance, even in the desert,’ says Frank Moser, Vice President Model Line 911/718. ‘Especially here, the 911 Dakar can make the most of its conceptual advantages – the combination of low weight, higher ground clearance, a powerful rear-mounted engine, and the short wheelbase make for an exhilarating driving experience.’

8

The first striking detail of the Porsche 911 Dakar is its ground clearance – 50mm higher than that of a 911 Carrera with sports suspension, with the standard lift system capable of raising it an additional 30mm. In fact, the car's impressive clearance and ramp angle rival those of conventional SUVs.

The lift system is an integral part of a retuned chassis, with the ‘high level’ setting intended for ambitious off-road adventures at speeds of up to 170km/h. Above that speed, the car automatically lowers back down to its normal level.

Complementing the car’s off-road attributes are specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres with a chunky 9mm-deep tread pattern and reinforced sidewalls. Highly cut-resistant, these exceptionally robust tyres are ideal for gruelling off-road adventures.

Powered by a 3-litre biturbo six-cylinder pushing out 353 kW and a maximum torque of 570 Nm, this 911 sprints to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds delivering the power to the ground via an 8-speed PDK gearbox and all-wheel-drive competency. Standard equipment includes rear-axle steering, 911 GT3 dakar-specific engine mounts, and PDCC anti-roll stabilisation.

Maximum off-road performance is delivered with two driving modes selected using a rotary steering wheel switch. Rallye Mode provides the traction needed for loose, uneven surfaces, while opting for Off-Road Mode provides high ground clearance for maximum traction on sandy or rocky terrain. Launch Control enables impressive acceleration on loose surfaces, allowing wheel slippage of around 20 percent.

g 9

Built for adventurers

Off-road details abound, such as red aluminium towing lugs at the front and rear, widened wheel wells and sills, and stainless-steel protective trays on the front, rear, and side. Side air intakes on the redesigned front are also protected against flying rocks by stainless steel grilles.

On the roof sits a 12V power outlet for the headlights of the optional roof rack, capable of holding 42kg of rally equipment such as extra fuel, water, shovels, and traction boards.

In place of the roof rack, a two-person fold-out tent can be fitted, with the Porsche-designed hardcase containing a ladder, mattress, anti-theft protection, and storm protection.

The tent can be set up within minutes, weighing 58kg and designed for a maximum load of 140kg.

Full Race-Tex covered bucket seats are fitted to the front interior, featuring contrasting stitching in Shade Green (also exclusively available as a metallic exterior colour for this vehicle). As a nod to its motorsport use, there are no rear seats.

The new Shade Green Metallic paint makes its debut in the 911 Dakar. The car can also be ordered in three familiar colours – GT Silver Metallic, Black, and White. The special colours of Ice Grey Metallic and Shark Blue are also available.

10

Rallye Design Package

An optional Rallye Design Package is available, establishing a direct visual link to 1984’s triumphant Porsche team. At its heart is a two-tone paint finish in White/Gentian Blue Metallic, the first time Porsche has combined bi-colour paint with decorative foiling in series production. Customers may choose an individual race number between 0 and 999 to grace the sides of the vehicle.

In addition to the rally stripes in red and gold, the 911 Dakar with Rallye Design Package comes with white-painted rims and red taillight strip to round off its distinctive appearance.

Inside, the Rallye package comes with a roll-over bar, six-point seatbelts, and fire extinguisher as options.

While the styling of the optional Rallye Design Package for the 911 Dakar draws heavily on the winning car of 1984, Porsche offers three exclusive wraps for the 911 Dakar reprising the look of the 1971, 1974, and 1978 entrants in the East African Safari Rally.

The 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar is available to order now, ahead of the first Australian deliveries in the first half of 2023. Prices start from $491,400. •

Porsche Centre Brighton teams up with Kodama Apparel

Building on Porsche Australia’s rewarding involvement in last year’s Fashion Week, Porsche Centre Brighton has announced an exciting collaboration with Melbourne-based fashion ambassador Natsuko Kondo, in recognition of her exceptional talent and inventiveness with Kodama Apparel.

Boasting an impeccable fashion pedigree, Natsuko is one of the world’s leading designers. Her love of drawing as a child led her to fashion, an industry which gave her the freedom to create the pieces for which she’s widely acclaimed.

Natsuko’s environmental consciousness has informed her entire career as a fashion designer. Although Natsuko had no concept of sustainability when she began studying fashion, years working in the industry made her realise how damaging fashion was to the environment.

Realising something had to change, Natsuko resolved to found her own company. In 2016, Kodama Apparel was born. Distinguished by its zero-waste philosophy, Kodama Apparel is establishing a circular, efficient foundation by repurposing fabrics while using organic, regenerated, and recyclable materials.

Natsuko’s striking garments encompass that unique Japanese aesthetic, incorporated into unisex streetwear. When beginning each of her striking designs, Natsuko envisages a versatile, durable, gender-neutral garment which can be appreciated across multiple seasons – the polar opposite of disposable fast fashion.

This innovative partnership between Kodama Apparel and Porsche Centre Brighton during Australian Fashion Week sets a new standard for sustainable collaboration.

Porsche Australia will again be the Official Automotive Partner for Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2023, held from 15–19 May at Sydney’s Carriageworks. •

Styled for Success

Fresh new look for a pair of mid-engined Porsches

14

The Porsche Boxster and 718 Cayman have been wrapped in new livery, with Style Edition models adding striking new looks for customers wishing to stand out from the crowd with a mix of cosmetic and equipment upgrades.

Style Editions look the part, with standard black exterior features including 20-inch high-gloss black alloy wheels and exhaust tailpipes contrasting with the high-gloss silver Porsche rear badges. Boxster even goes one better, with silver Boxster script embossed into the soft-top roof above the windows.

After a more contrast-heavy colour choice? No problem. The 718 Style Edition contrast packages are offered at no extra charge – one in black, the other in white.

Both include decorative stripes on the front luggage compartment lid and Porsche decorative side lettering, coupled with black and white high-gloss paint finishes for the wheels and model designations at the rear.

This black or white choice aims to contrast tastefully with your exterior colour preference. For example, the white vividly stands out when paired with Ruby Star Neo, a striking strong pink available on both vehicles. The vibrant white/pink contrast is inspired by the classic 964 series Porsche 911 Carrera RS.

Inside, the Style Edition models feature a leather package in black including contrast stitching in Crayon, illuminated door sill panels in stainless steel, and the Porsche crest on the headrests.

15
g

The generous standard equipment includes Apple CarPlay, smartphone mirroring, illuminated door sills, auto-dimming mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers.

Style Edition variants are further differentiated by a heated smooth leather multifunction steering wheel, heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, floor mats with contrast stitching in Crayon, and leather upholstery in black with contrast stitching in Crayon.

Australian vehicles will also benefit from the Porsche Dynamic Light system, a 64-litre fuel tank, keyless entry and start, 14-way power adjustable sport seats with memory function, navigation with Porsche Connect and digital radio, a Light Design package, Lane Change Assist, and interior surveillance.

Each Style Edition is based on the entry-level 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. Both are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine developing 220kW/380Nm driving the rear wheels and taken to the road via a six-speed manual transmission as standard. (A seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic is optional.) Power Steering Plus is available at no cost.

Zero to 100km/h acceleration times sit at 5.1 seconds for the manual and 4.9 seconds for the PDK, with both cars capable of a 275km/h top speed.

The 718 Cayman Style Edition manual is $125,800, and the Boxster Style Edition manual is $126,800. Australian deliveries are expected to commence from the middle of 2023. •

Customer Profile

– Beata Koropatwa

Entrepreneur Beata Koropatwa has achieved stratospheric success ... but she won't rest on her laurels

As founder and CEO of IT solutions provider Auslaser Business Solutions, she has forged 30 years of growth servicing global blue-chip companies and some of Australia's best-known retail brands.

Beata's drive and passion have elevated her far beyond her humble start, made her an in-demand Board Chair and Member, and earned recognition from Australia's business and philanthropy communities.

There's no rest for Beata, who supports the emerging generation of Australian leaders and helps others help themselves.

'I am at the stage where if I can share some learnings and one person gets something out of it, I am doing my job. Investment in the next generation will help give us a much better world.'

Crediting a large part of her success to her self-belief, Beata often sees this quality missing in younger people.

'This next generation of leaders must get support – they are so smart and educated but lack confidence. When I was that age, you had to believe in yourself because there was nothing else.

'I've always had this 'never give up' attitude – I keep going and going. I don't compete against others – I compete against myself. My mum was an orphan and told us that the only competition is yourself – to be a better person.

'That's where my drive comes from.'

Beata recalls growing up in Inala in Brisbane with migrant and First Nations neighbours and gaining an ability to talk to people from all walks of life.

Beata's mother would make Polish dumplings to share with their neighbours, saying that you share whatever you have.

'With my business partner, we've always believed that if you give back, it comes back tenfold. But you need to give without expecting.'

Beata's strategy for giving focuses on maximising impact, now directed to women affected by domestic violence or without the confidence to realise their potential.

18
19 g

'I was chair of the Hunger Project for eight and a half years and realised you can make some big differences from relatively little. It doesn't take much to change lives.'

Beata has drawn on her entrepreneurial skills and humanitarian goals in her latest project, an international wellness business selling the antiageing product Protandim.

Protandim sells via direct marketing, and Beata supports a global team of women, advising them on how to run their businesses. She says many of them have recently divorced or faced other hardships, and their new businesses give them the ability to support themselves.

Beata got her first Porsche, a white 911, at 30. Her current Porsche, purchased last year, is black, and she laughs that its must-haves were a sunroof, seat warmers... and of course, tyres.

While delivering a keynote address a many years ago, Beata recalls being asked what authority she had to speak about hunger when she drove a Porsche – 'Doesn't that pose a contradiction to what you are trying to convey?'

Beata batted that back swiftly with an explanation of her philosophy: 'I believe that true success is achieved when you can share your personal gains with others. I love beautiful things, and I permit myself to have them. But I judge my personal success in my ability to help others less fortunate succeed. That’s always been my end goal.' •

Shared racing heritage inspires a new TAG Heuer-Porsche timepiece

An enduring, shared passion for racing has inspired the sixth creation from TAG Heuer’s design partnership with Porsche.

In the mid-20th century, Porsche and TAG Heuer named the 911 Carrera and the Carrera timepiece for one of the world’s most dangerous races, the Carrera Panamericana. The Porsche 911 Carrera and the TAG Heuer Carrera have since become icons, recently celebrated in Paris on the occasion of the Porsche Carrera RS 2.7’s 50th anniversary.

After sharing several memorable achievements, the two partners have developed a special edition of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph to symbolise their shared racing heritage.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph X Porsche Orange Racing is a bold and sporty timepiece that upholds the quality and performance offered by the in-house Calibre Heuer 02, a movement manufactured entirely at TAG Heuer’s Chevenez facility.

The timepiece comprises 168 parts, including a column wheel and a vertical clutch. These features allow for exceptional chronometric performance and an impressive power reserve of 80 hours.

A black diamond-hard carbon case provides unfailing resistance and contrasts with the watch’s orange detailing, while a custom-designed oscillating weight pays homage to the Porsche steering wheel.

The stitching of the timepiece’s black calfskin strap references Porsche seat upholstery, with orange stitching and lining hinting at the marks racing cars make at high speed.

Released in February 2023, the new timepiece is available from TAG Heuer boutiques, e-commerce sites, and select retail partners.

Sunshine and Happiness

A panoramic liquid-crystal roof offers sun, shade, or block-out for the Taycan’s occupants

Australia is blessed with summer sunshine, but that sun sometimes comes with a sting that can heat a car’s interior and even burn delicate skin. To prevent this, Porsche has incorporated an innovative sunroof to cater for every weather condition.

Electrically adjustable liquid crystals allow the Taycan’s roof to become dark, semitransparent, or totally clear with a touch of a special dashboard panel. Four options are available – clear, matte, semi, and bold, with bold allowing in the least amount of light. The result is 40 percent matte in Semi mode and 60 percent matte in Bold mode.

To completely shield occupants from the sun, the Taycan’s roof incorporates an added slider function that can block the light from front to back as if it were a roller blind.

Taycan’s optional panoramic roof with Variable Light Control is matte white in its default state and without power, keeping the summer heat outside. But it’s when the Taycan starts up that the roof really comes to life.

22

A seven-layered wafer-thin polymer matrix is the secret to this exceptional roof design. Including conductive layers on both sides, the matrix is matte if no voltage is present. If the alternating voltage is active, the liquid crystals rearrange themselves to provide your chosen view. A safety film and glass layer appear on each side of this innovative core. Thanks to a silver coating, the outer layer reflects the heat of the sun, while the inner layer has an insulating effect.

The panoramic roof with Variable Light Control not only eliminates the need for headroom-reducing sunshades, but also offers effective heat protection. And in Clear mode, the Taycan glass roof allows more light to filter into the interior than all previous tinted panoramic roofs.

In winter, the Low-E coating on the liquid crystal roof’s underside also protects you from the cold. When sitting just below the glass surface, you can clearly see the sky through the roof without experiencing any cold seeping through.

The advanced composite glass used in the Taycan’s sunroof is also much lighter than a comparable roof made of a single glass layer, offering exceptional insulation in the frequency ranges of music and human voices. Noises remain outside – adding to your comfort inside. •

Mr. Lee – An Instinctive Technician

Porsche Gold Technician

Porsche Centre Brighton

Freshly qualified Porsche Gold Technician

Mr Geunho Lee is ultra-passionate about the cars he’s dedicated his life to. He shares his story, passions, and obsessions … along with a taste of what he enjoys doing most when he’s not rejuvenating Porsches

24

Geunho Lee (usually known as Mr Lee) arrived in Melbourne from South Korea 15 years ago with his young family. Mindful of his initial struggles to learn English, Geunho was adamant that his children would be educated in an English-speaking country. (This has worked out perfectly, with his son now in his first year of university, and his daughter following many pursuits in secondary school.)

On arrival, Mr Lee brought his enduring passion for solving mechanical puzzles. ‘I believe that I can talk to vehicles,’ he reveals. ‘When they tell me what’s wrong with their noises and warning lights, I provide a diagnosis – just like a person going to hospital!’

Mr Lee continually challenges himself at Porsche Centre Brighton, with impressive results. He recently completed the Certified Porsche Technician program, a worldwide certification initiative managed by Porsche AG Service Training which ensures a high level of technical knowledge for Porsche dealers worldwide.

‘Last year, I had the opportunity to take the Gold exam and thankfully passed,’ he remembers, having been nominated by Aftersales Manager Michael Smith. He’s currently the sole Gold Technician at Porsche Centre Brighton, which also boasts two Silver Technicians.

Offering a steady progression of knowledge and competencies, the certification process is divided into three parts – Bronze Level, for ‘Service Technician’ duties; Silver Level, for ‘System Technician’ duties; and Gold Level, for ‘Electronics/Diagnostics Specialist’ duties.

The full-day exam is held annually at Porsche Cars Australia Training Centre, with three practical tasks for each level. Only after all Bronze Level and Silver Level training objectives have been successfully completed is the participant entitled to take the coveted Gold Level test.

With this impressive achievement under his belt, Mr Lee soon plans to visit the Porsche Track Experience course in Queensland. ‘Travelling there will help me understand the Porsche brand even more, as well as perform more complex repairs on customers’ vehicles,’ he points out. ‘I always aim to keep moving forward – I can fix Porsche vehicles, but I want to further explore the Porsche spirit.’

So, where does the golf come in?

‘I work inside on customers’ Porsches from Monday to Friday,’ Mr Lee says. ‘On Saturday and Sunday, I can walk in nature on a beautiful golf course. When I hit a good shot, it makes me feel free,’ he explains.

With such tireless ambition, we’re glad Mr Lee also appreciates the paramount importance of rest and relaxation. •

Gulf Blau Macan GTS

Personality comes standard with any vehicle in the Porsche line-up, but there’s always the opportunity to add even more with Exclusive Manufaktur and Porsche Paint to Sample offering

Exclusive Manufaktur is a special area where vehicles are adjusted to suit a customer’s desires – within parameters. This happens on two levels, with the first being where a sales consultant works hand-in-hand with their customer and specify a car online to suit the customer’s preferences. The other is a more detailed personalisation.

This Macan GTS is such a vehicle. It was detailed through the Exclusive Manufaktur option, so it could be specified with a soft blue exterior colour and a host of appointments that lift it to a new level. There are so many options available in the online Exclusive Manufaktur selection – simply tick the car configurator to style your own unique Porsche.

Here, the Macan GTS was treated to a distinctive soft Gulf Blue paint colour on the outside set off by 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in matt black to match the detailed black touches to grille, sides, and rear, where the darkened light pods enrich the lighter blue paint.

Inside, the driver and passengers are enfolded in a mix of leather and Porsche’s exceptional Race-Tex. The driver sits with their hands wrapped around a heated multifunction GT Sports steering wheel in Race-Tex, inlaid in Carbon. Much of the interior is displayed in Race-Tex, including the roof lining, grab handles, and gear selection knob.

Flashes of orange are dotted throughout to add warmth and contrast, featured in the leather sun visors, grab handles, and leather edging on the Carbon-coloured floor mats. Personalised door sill guards were also specified, which are illuminated and in Carbon. Facing the driver is a special compass instrument dial and Sport Chrono stopwatch with instruments in white.

Another stunning example of how easy it can be to personalise a Porsche. •

Taylah Donchos – Service Reception

I joined the Porsche Centre Brighton team after working in a similar role at a Toyota dealership, and really enjoy meeting our clients. I’m from a military background, as a non-active reservist in the Australian Air Force. My parents’ work took them to Vanuatu, while I went to boarding school in Australia. On one visit to Vanuatu, Cyclone Pam did tremendous damage, and I remember seeing the Globe Master airplanes from the Australian Air Force delivering aid. I knew I wanted to be a part of that, so I did the Air Force gapyear program, then went to be a technician on F-18 Super Hornet jet fighters. I find having a mechanical background helps me to fly high in my role here.

Andrew Kennedy – from Porsche Service Technician to Porsche Service Advisor

Andrew qualified as a Porsche Service Technician, having completed his whole apprenticeship at Porsche Centre Brighton. ‘I was looking for an opportunity to learn more about the business’, he recounts. When the Porsche Service Advisor position became available, Andrew made the move. ‘I really enjoy meeting the owners of the cars I’ve been working on. I have a whole new perspective and am learning new skills that will serve me well in this business,’ he says.

Meet the New Faces at Porsche Centre Brighton

Lawrence started his career as a technician. ‘I worked with Volkswagen and Audi, but my eyes were always on working with Porsche,’ says Lawrence, who worked for independent Porsche repairers in Sydney and Melbourne. ‘In 2020, I closed the toolbox and stepped into a sales and e-commerce role. This was a huge time of personal development, as I was scared to deal with customers, but I actually find that I’m very good at it.’ That change and growth has opened more possibilities for Lawrence, leading him to become a Porsche Service Advisor with Porsche Centre Brighton.

William Langton – Porsche Service Advisor

I finished school and went straight into working as a Service Advisor, first with Lexus and then Audi. I took a year and worked as a detailer, then ended up at Porsche Centre Leeds as an Advisor for 2½ years. I was bitten by the travel bug and came to Australia. I’ve taken the Greyhound up to Cairns and back. I’ve had an incredible trip, and especially love Byron Bay. When I came back to Melbourne, the perfect job was here at Porsche Centre Brighton. •

The dynamic regional centre continues to celebrate its contrasts, setting vibrant arts hubs and buzzing bars and restaurants against grand architecture and a storied history.

Try a three-day break that captures the energy and flavour of this grand old city.

Day 1

The best place to start in any new place is the Visitor Information Centre. As a bonus, the Bendigo Visitor Centre is a former post office and grand historic attraction in its own right. It also houses the Post Office Gallery social history museum as well as the Living Arts Space, which showcases emerging local artists. You might stay longer than you think here.

Take a moment to get your Bendigo bearings from beautiful Rosalind Park. The reward for ascending the mine tower (Poppet Head) is stunning views of Bendigo and surrounds.

Lunch at the Gallery Cafe is the perfect segue into an arty afternoon. A delectable showcase of local food and wine, it also offers delicious views of the Bendigo Art Gallery's sculpture annex and Rosalind Park.

Fortified, you're ready to head inside to Australia's largest regional art gallery. See a touring international exhibition, or familiarise yourself with the contemporary names in the permanent collection.

Finish your fix of fine art with a wander through the View Street Art Precinct and its galleries, theatres, bars, eateries, and boutiques.

Prepare for a night out Bendigo-style with dinner at The Woodhouse restaurant. Then it's on to the new Ulumbarra Theatre to catch a performance in the 1860s Sandhurst Gaol building. Or you can devote your night to the blues, catching a gig at The Handle Bar, Rifle Brigade Hotel, Hotel Shamrock, Goldmines Hotel, or the Old Church on the Hill.

After such an artistic day, it's fitting that you should rest your head amid the original artworks, large-scale sculptures, and mosaics at Mercure Schaller Hotel, inspired by Mark Schaller's working studio.

Day 2

Set the tone for a bumper Bendigo day with breakfast from the kitchen garden at the Spring Gully General Store. Then join your local guide and take the Food Fossicking Tour of Bendigo's gourmet hotspots, discovering chocolate making, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and sourdough bread.

All that talk of food is bound to lead to hunger pangs, so finish up the tour with a 'paddock to plate' meal at Masons of Bendigo in the old WD Masons Glass shop. It's time to talk gold. Don your miner's hat and lamp and descend 61 metres underground at Central Deborah Gold Mine, a real mine from the mid-1900s. Climb ladders, work a mine drill' and search for gold – it's finders keepers!

Discover more tales of the city founded on one of the world's richest goldfields by sitting back on a historic Bendigo Tramways tram and visiting key local landmarks.

You've well and truly earned a drink by now. Head to tiny Chancery Lane and grab a glass or two of a local drop at The Dispensary.

Finish a jam-packed day with dinner at Ms Batterhams. Housed within the old school hall at Mackenzie Quarters, this relaxed lounge bar offers a southern European menu, paired with a locally-sourced wine list, delicious cocktails, and a wide range of craft beers.

Day 3

Grab a Lekker bike from Mercure Schaller Hotel and cycle to beautiful Lake Weeroona for breakfast.

Head to the Golden Dragon Museum to discover the living history of the Chinese people of Bendigo from the gold rush to the present day. Then make your way to the Great Stupa, the largest Buddhist stupa (monument) outside of Asia and home to the largest gem-quality jade Buddha in the world.

Alternatively, visit Bendigo Pottery to watch potters at work, or throw a pot yourself. Lunch at Balgownie Estate should be a relaxed affair so you can savour the rich, ripe reds and elegant whites from Bendigo's gold-bearing soils. With over 30 cellar doors to choose from, a visit to the Bendigo wine region is up there with striking gold

New record at the ’ring for 911 GT3 RS

Germany’s 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife, the northern loop of the world-famous Nürburgring, again witnessed a major Porsche achievement with the new 911 GT3 RS completing the lap in 6:49.328 minutes – 10.6 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3.

‘Today the 911

RS delivered what it had already promised at first glance – absolute excellence on the racetrack,’ says Andreas Preuninger, Director of GT cars.

‘Considering the far from ideal conditions, with a strong headwind on the long straight of the Döttinger Höhe and cool asphalt temperatures, we are satisfied with this time.’

The 911 GT3 RS with the Weissach package was equipped with the optionally available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, sized 275/35 R 20 (front) and 335/30 R21 (rear).

‘We lost a little downforce due to the strong, sometimes gusting wind, but I’m still very happy with the lap, explains driver Jorg Bergmeister. ‘In the fast sections in particular, the 911 GT3 RS is in a league of its own. Here it’s on a level usually reserved for top-class racing cars. The car is also setting new standards in braking. Fast laps on the Nordschleife are simply so much fun in this car.’ •

99X triumph at first Mexico outing

Porsche’s new 99X Electric Gen3 cars have proven their ability to set impressive new benchmarks in performance, efficiency, and sustainability.

In the cars’ first race on 14 January 2023 at Mexico City, the 99X won the opening round in front of 40,000 avid fans with driver Jake Dennis … followed by Pascal Wehrlein’s 99X in second.

The win was made possible by Porsche Motorsport’s brand-new powertrain, delivering maximum drive power of 350kW – a stunning 100kW increase over the Gen2, enhanced by a new energy recovery system which more than doubles the previous model’s efficiency. The fast-charge technology aims for the highest battery performance possible, while the recycled carbon fibre reduces the car’s carbon footprint.

The lighter 99X vehicles feature a shorter wheelbase and narrower track – yet although the battery's now more compact, it’s also more powerful. The aerodynamics and design have also undergone detailed modifications to enhance racing effectiveness.

Island Magic for Carter Fox’s 944

Carter Fox, who’s racing a Porsche 944 in the single-marque 944 Series, greatly enjoyed his year on the track in 2022.

His superb run culminated in the year’s final event at Phillip Island, aptly titled Island Magic. Three races were held over that weekend, with Carter finishing 12th in his first season with the series.

Carter’s qualifying time of 1:53.998 seconds was topnotch in a field of 944s with little to separate them, a close contest making for very exciting racing with Carter often battling Toni Andreevski for position. At the event, 944 Class President Mark Taubitz presented Carter with a set of tyre blankets for displaying an exemplary attitude and consistent improvement across the entire season.

Porsche Centre Brighton is keenly anticipating Carter’s 2023 year in the 944 Series, with the next race on 17–19 February at Sandown Raceway.

When asked about his upcoming races, Carter said his 944 was getting a few ‘tweaks’ in the off season.

‘Without giving too much away, I’m excited to see how well I use the upgrades to perform in February,’ he says. With Carter’s enthusiasm and newly tweaked machinery, we’re in for exciting times ahead. •
