Special Education Teacher for Inclusion (PK-8TH) School Site Principal/Assistant Principal

Job Summary

To assist students in the achievement of appropriate curricular goals that will contribute to the development of their maximum potential as mature, able and responsible adults.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. All of the Standards must be complied with, including, but not limited to the following areas.



To meet those standards of performance for his/her individual teaching assignment developed by Orleans Parish Public school System and all applicable state and federal guidelines. Those standards include the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching.



To guide the individualized process of each student toward the achievement of curriculum goals in the areas of academics, social skills, communication skills, motor skills, vocational skills, and self-help skills as set by the Orleans Parish Public school System and all applicable state and federal guidelines.



To assist the administration in implementing all Board Policies.



To strive to maintain and improve professional competence.



To achieve those objectives/activities included in the Professional Growth Plan developed jointly with the principal or assistant principal as part of the accountability process mandated by the State Legislature.



To consult with administrator (s), colleagues, students and/or parents on a regular basis to coordinate services to students.



To assist school personnel in facilitating the appropriate placement and integration of the student in his/her “least restrictive environment”.



To read and interpret each student’s “Integrated Multidisciplinary Evaluation Report” from Student Evaluation and Support Services.

To develop and implement an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student.



To develop and maintain appropriate and current records and reports.



To plan tasks and supervise paraprofessional (s) in accordance with the responsibilities outlined in their job description.



To cooperate with administrator and/or department head in assisting the performance of paraprofessional (s) and volunteer (s) assigned.



To serve on and participate in professional staff committees/meetings as requested.



Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities Students, Paraprofessional(s) and Volunteer(s) Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree. Five (5) years of successful teaching experience with students with disabilities in inclusive settings.

B. Certificates, Licenses Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required.

The ability to fulfill the responsibilities listed above Work Environment Listed below are key points regarding environmental demands and the work environment of the job.

• Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the work day; • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds rarely; • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc) rarely; • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely; • Normal setting for this job is a classroom/school setting.
