Job Summary Under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, the Special Education Director will provide effective leadership in all areas that relate to educational opportunities and services for exceptional students, including effective communications with parents, schools, the Louisiana Department of Education and the community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Administers all services for identifying, locating, evaluating, and developing appropriate educational programs, and provides services to exceptional children to assure the district’s full compliance with federal and state regulations. Ensures that all identified students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education. Establishes the special education framework for the school system in compliance with all federal and state regulations. Provides leadership for the analysis, development, interpretation and implementation of policies and legislation related to exceptional children’s services. Develops, implements and continually reviews the processes for referral, identification, and placement of exceptional children in order to ensure maximum educational opportunities. Develops a plan to continually receive input from parents, school site administrators, teachers and support personnel on the effectiveness of special education services and processes, and modifies special education procedures and processes, as necessary, based upon input. Collects data on the students entering the rolls of special education and of students exiting the rolls of special education. Designs and administers the inclusive practices program throughout the school district to maximize educational opportunities for all students with disabilities. Develops annual applications and budgets for administering local, state and federal funds for programs and services for exceptional children. Establishes a plan for regular meetings with school site administrators, receives input on effective service delivery and acts on input. Establishes a plan for regular meetings with parents, receives input regarding service delivery and acts on input. Reviews and recommends priorities and allocations for the distribution of funds from approved sources.
