he D7 visa has been running for years. But thanks to myopic press focus on Portugal’s ‘golden visa’ programme, many Brits have simply never heard of it. With the golden visa regime to be ‘scrapped’ this summer for Lisbon, Porto and coastal areas of the mainland, Brits have been flooding estate agents with panicked inquiries fearing golden visas are the last chance for securing a new life in Portugal. Said one agent that has offices along the Algarve: “There is a great deal of confusion about how Brits can take up residency here. “Many have been contacting us about golden visas. They seem to have no knowledge at all about the D7. It’s as if people have forgotten Brits have always managed to live in Europe. It’s not something that came because of joining the EU – and it’s not something that will disappear because of Brexit.” Another told us how demand from Brits who still want to live in the EU has been “huge” since the latter part of 2020. “Once travel restrictions are lifted, we’re expecting to be busier than ever with UK buyers,” he said.

Com o fim do regime e vistos gold para Lisboa, Porto e zonas costeiras do continente previsto para o verão, os Britânicos têm inundado agentes imobiliários em pânico com perguntas por temerem que os vistos gold sejam a sua última oportunidade de estabelecerem uma nova vida em Portugal. Segundo um agente imobiliário que opera no Algarve: "Existe muita confusão sobre como os Britânicos podem estabelecer residência aqui". 'Muitos têm-nos contactado sobre vistos gold. Parecem desconhecer por completo o visto D7. É como se as pessoas se tivessem esquecido de que os Britânicos sempre viveram as suas vidas na Europa. Não é algo que tenha surgido com a União Europeia, nem é algo que vá desaparecer com o Brexit'. Outro disse-nos que a procura da parte de britânicos que querem continuar a viver na EU tem sido 'tremenda' desde fins de 2020. De acordo com o mesmo: "Assim que as restrições sejam levantadas, esperamos que o negócio com compradores do RU seja o melhor de sempre".
