BARCELONA BRIDAL WEEK Barcelona Bridal Week 2015 celebrated its 25 year anniversary by showcasing stunning European bridal trends and designers. Tattoo lace, floral embroidery, detailing, detachable linings, jackets and skirts, took centre stage as the emerging bridal trends for 2016.

White Lily Couture Style Director and bridal expert, Alera Kingham travelled to Barcelona to see how the designers on show combined traditional detailing with sexy avant-garde designs. photos courtesy White Lily Couture

The new season for 2016 is both stylish and sophisticated, but with a sexy edge. Elegant embroidery, detailing, and strong silhouettes are creating more feminine gowns that really speak to the modern bride,” Alera said.

The Pronovias Atelier collection for 2016 was a real stand out; delivering romantic and fashion-forward styles to suit a range of bridal looks, from full skirt fairy-tale to backless sleek and sexy.

“

The Pronovias show was held at the National Art Museum of Catalunya... a gorgeous venue which boasted gold chairs for the 2000 guests in attendance. The show was full of energy as Pronovias revealed their Atelier collection for 2016. All gowns were on the runway and showcased by famous models. Many celebrities also attended the event.

“

The day after the Pronovias show was buying day at the Palau de Congressos. Five rooms were filled with the entire gown, accessories and veil collections.

“

The show-stopping finale gown had a 4 metre train which looked amazing under the light of the chandeliers.

“

After the show we celebrated with dinner and dancing. A seven piece band made for a fun night with a beautiful menu and speeches by Pronovias President Alberto Palatchi.

Alera and Quinton Kingham

“

The new season for 2016 is both stylish and sophisticated but with a sexy edge. Tattoo lace is huge, as is layered lace designs and understated belts and finishes. Pronovias is making use of unique ways to add versatility to the styles with detachable linings, jackets and skirts. The 2016 Pronovias collection will be available to Brisbane brides-to-be from July 2015. For more expert insight from Alera, check out @whitelilycouture on Instagram and Facebook.

What’s TRENDING

OnTrend Bridal asked Brodie-Lee from Cloud Nine Rokstar Salon Brisbane what’s trending in the world of bridal hair...

HAIR TRENDS

Soft loose waves... think Victoria’s Secret... are stealing the show at the moment. Up-do’s are seeing gorgeous big braids with beautiful oversized buns return to the forefront of bridal styling.

HAIR ACCESSORIES

‘Less is More’... soft and delicate... crystal brooches and pearls.

Is the traditional look still popular or are you seeing brides try unconventional styles and/or colours for the big day? Traditional will never go out of fashion, however it’s always nice to see brides trying new looks. What should brides consider when deciding on a hairstyle for their wedding (up or down)? Weather!!!! As it is so uncontrollable, it’s always important to have a back-up plan for your big day. Choose a style that will work for each situation so you’re prepared. Are there any secrets to prep your hair a week before the wedding and what about the night before? Use a professional prescribed shampoo that will enhance the shine and give your hair a mirror/ glass finish. Your hair will be beaming under the lights and glowing throughout the evening. What are a few simple tips/tricks to make your hairstyle stay the distance? Talk to your hair stylist about what is required to keep your hair in tact. A mini hairspray and a few pins are always a good idea to carry in a clutch. Is it common for brides to change their hair after the ceremony for the reception and what would be the best way to go about this? The best way would be to ask your hair stylist about a ‘call back fee’ to come to you after the ceremony and photos and create a new style for the celebrations. What products would help brides create simple, flawless looks at home for the engagement, bridal shower and other pre-wedding events... and of course the honeymoon? The Cloud Nine wands are a must!!! They make it so easy to create gorgeous waves and easy up-do’s. I always recommend a heat protection spray, shine spray and texture spray along with a humidity resistant hairspray to make life easier. See the range of Cloud Nine styling products @ http://au.cloudninehair.com/

2 Vas from Frosted Indulgence shares the inspiration behind some of her recent edible works of art...

1

This cake was inspired by beautiful wedding invitations which had a gorgeous lace design and silver foil details. The monogram design also matched the invite and was placed onto the cake using Swarovski crystals. The sugar flowers and their colouring matched the many fresh flowers throughout the reception.

2

Inspiration for this cake was taken from the dusty pink colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses and the lace detail on them. The silhouette toppers are a special touch which the bride carried through to her wedding cake from her engagement cake, seamlessly tying both events together.

3

Both the bride and groom knew that they wanted to add a splash of their quirky personalities to their cake. The cat toppers did this so well and were the talking point for all their guests. The rest of the cake was kept quite simple with a quilting and a gold hand-painted chevron design.

4

This grand design was one my bride had her heart set on from the minute we had our first consultation. The colours she chose were ivory with gold accents. The monogram gold handpainted details were taken straight from the wedding invitation and the ruffle ball on top finished off the cake perfectly.

5

My client wanted a simple yet stunning cake which we achieved by choosing a simple cake design and adding Swarovski crystal trims and monograms to give it that wow factor.

6

The lace detail on this cake matched the lace on the bride’s dress. A touch of colour was added by dusting the edges and centre of the rose with a lovely pink that matched the bridesmaids’ dresses.

OnTrend Bridal asked Pauline Oliver from award-winning Limoso Luxury Transport to share the TOP 10 things to consider when planning your wedding day transport...

When most couples first call us to enquire about wedding cars, rarely do they know how many people they need to transfer or what type of vehicles they are after... so here are the most important things you need to consider. 1, How many passengers? This is a rather important question. It will determine the range of vehicles you can choose from... ensuring you count yourselves and making sure that after the ceremony you have enough seats for your entire bridal party so everything can continue to flow smoothly. 2. Where are we going? Our vehicles offer travel between the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. However the varying destinations differ in pricing. If you are able to provide us with all of your information up front, this decreases any additional pricing down the track and also minimises confusion as to why there is an additional charge after the initial quote. 3. When do we book? It is obviously a personal preference of your priorities for your wedding day, but it is always a good idea to book a year in advance from the actual date if you are wanting stretch limousines, especially if your wedding is in the popular months. By booking in early, you are guaranteed to have the cheapest rate, as the prices always increase year to year. You are able to pay your 50% deposit when you book and the balance is paid a month before your wedding. 4. How long do we book the vehicles for? This really depends on your locations and your plans for the day. On average a wedding generally goes for 2½ to 3hours, but we do have some weddings who require the vehicle(s) for 4–6 hours. All the vehicles are hired for a minimum of 2 hours within Brisbane and 3 hours outside of Brisbane. 5. Are there any discounts? Everyone is looking for a deal to save money on their wedding. We are able to package up vehicles if you are using more than one for more than 3 hours of the day, however it is really dependant on your circumstances and the popularity of the vehicles for that day.

6. Do we need to consider vehicles for guests? This is totally a personal decision. If you are getting married outside of Brisbane city or even if you have guests staying together, it is always a cheaper option to have a people mover or coach take them to and from your wedding rather than trying to get multiple cabs at one time. It also is a lot nicer and more luxurious to spoil your guests a little on your wedding day if your budget permits it or maybe contribute to the overall cost. This also allows the guests to enjoy the celebration and not worry about “who will be the designated driver.” 7. How do we book and pay? You can call or email the wedding coordinator and let them know your requirements and they will email you through a quotation and vehicle availability along with the application form. This form contains everything you need to know, including an itinerary section for you to complete, vehicle requirements, payment instructions and terms and conditions. 8. Do we need an itinerary? Providing us with a detailed itinerary enables the driver to have a thorough idea of how the day will flow. The driver will liaise with the photographer regarding any photo stops but will not hassle you for directions or questions as it will all be in the itinerary. This will enable you to sit back, relax and enjoy your day. The more details the better. 9. What is included in the booking? Included in the vehicle hire is the option of having White Wedding Ribbons on the front of the car; interior decorations including Tulle and White Flowers behind the back seats; a Wheel Cover to avoid getting any blackness or dirt from the tyre onto your dress, and a red carpet rolled out for your arrival and departure from the vehicle. Within the stretch limousine, you will also have complimentary glassware and ice to allow you to bring drinks and enjoy them cold. We also provide you with free Wi-Fi in all vehicles and an iPad to use for music within the Stretch Limousines if required. 10. What about leaving the Reception? It is always nice to finish your wedding day as you started it. Leaving in a luxurious vehicle with plenty of space, comfort and style is always nicer than trying to ‘squish’ yourself into a cab and making sure you have the money on you to pay for it! You can book a car to take you from your reception at the same time as booking your wedding vehicles. This is the easiest way to know that a luxurious vehicle will be waiting for you out the front to transport you to your wedding night destination in style.

Way back in the 1970’s it was hard to find a bouquet that didn’t feature Baby’s Breath. These delicately pretty little flowers are inexpensive and hardy and are a great filler for bouquets and floral arrangements... just some of the reasons Baby’s Breath is trending again, according to Jenny from Floriginality who created this gorgeous bouquet.

Bohemian Weddings Famous for its idyllic sunsets, Ibiza Island located in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea in the group of Balearic Islands, is an island full of untouched beauty. The pristine beaches, clear skies and crystalline water create a stunning natural backdrop and the perfect location for saying “I do”. Adored for its ‘cool hippy vibe’, Ibiza offers the perfect setting to host a romantic Bohemian style affair. From quirky hilltop ceremonies in ramshackle, white-washed churches to super-stylish beach weddings with a cool night time vibe that makes the Mediterranean sparkle into life... the island has a relaxed agelessness that encourages people to live life to the fullest. Alexandra Sixt, one of Ibiza’s most respected wedding planners, offers our readers some helpful tips for creating the perfect Bohemian celebration.

“ The wind through the white garments softly stirred And they grew vari-coloured in each fold And each fold hidden blossoms seemed to hold And flowers and stars and fluting notes of bird And dim, quaint figures shimmering like gold Seemed to come forth from distant myths of old. Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)

Ibiza is a hugely popular destination for cool laid-back celebrations and an idyllic place to host a romantic Bohemian style wedding. Sink back to the hippy roots of the island to give your Ibiza wedding a bohemian luxe theme. Romance, flowers and antique lace, billowy sleeves, blossom trees, sand between your toes. Go for rustic decor complemented by splashes of colour, a deep sense of gypsy chic and whimsical charm plus a chilled-out, laid-back ambience and you’re on your way‌ Your dress should be effortlessly stylish, chic and romantic with a vintage feel. Delicate silks, antique lace, chiffon and crochet are all used in bohemian style creations. Consider a soft and romantic hairstyle that is not too structured. It should look effortlessly gorgeous. You can definitely put flowers in your hair and a floral crown would be spectacular.

IBIZA style

IBIZA style

The colour palette for the Bohemian wedding should be inspired by nature and could include soft yellow, ivory, coral, and greys, mixed with deep purples and wine. These colours can be incorporated into the floral arrangements, invitations and even the bride’s headdress. Incorporating the ‘boho look’ into your wedding is easy, allowing you to personalise the day with much of the decor being easily created by friends and family. Whether it’s the traditional bunting and lace look you are after or a more rustic Bohemian woodland feel, just a few well thought out touches will make all the difference. Think simple flowers wrapped in lace or natural hessian fabrics, jars or jugs of flowers, a few hanging bottles or a wooden cake stand to add simple and inexpensive touches to your theme.

And finally, the slightest little touches can create the warmest magical feel for the Bohemian-themed wedding. Glass lanterns, tea lights and fairy lights play a huge part in creating this whole magical experience. Remember, take your lead from nature and add your own bit of magic.

Ibiza is well-known for the lively nightlife scene in Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, where major European nightclubs have summer outposts. It’s also home to quiet villages, yoga retreats and beaches, from Platja d’en Bossa, lined with hotels, bars and shops, to quieter sandy coves backed by pine-clad hills found all around the coastline. While it is one-sixth the size of nearby Majorca, Ibiza is over five times the size of Mykonos (Greece), and ten times the size of Manhattan Island... the perfect place to say “I Do” and linger longer for an idyllic Mediterranean honeymoon.

If you are considering getting married in Ibiza and would like more information, please contact Alexandra Sixt of Ma Chérie Ibiza Weddings at http://macherie-weddings-ibiza.com who would be delighted to assist you. They cater for all types of weddings on the island and are happy to work within any budget.

“

Photographing Di & Keith’s wedding was an absolute joy. It was a lovely warm wedding, and as Keith is from Ireland, many guests had travelled very far to be there. It was a very laid-back day filled with Aussie-Irish humour. Our photo session after the ceremony involved all of the family coming along for drinks and snacks. The day had a real sense of strong family values. An intimate reception was held at Grappino Ristorante Trattoria in Paddington. REBECCA WILLIAMS

Real Weddings Straddie style CONGRATULATIONS MR & MRS NOLAN 7 February 2015 @ North Stradbroke Island photography by Rebecca Williams Photography

“

How could I not enjoy photographing Rissa and Ben’s wedding? Stradbroke is one of my most favourite places on earth! It is breathtakingly beautiful and has a certain relaxed island sense of charm about it. Rissa and Ben made sure their wedding was unique and special, with only their closest and dearest friends and family attending. Their intimate ceremony on the beach was full of laughter and so very them! Their bridal party were fun to work with and they even embraced their sense of adventure by traversing over an escarpment to get down to the beach. A true testament of the friendship they have amongst one another. So lovely! REBECCA WILLIAMS

2014 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane JACK SULLIVAN BRIDAL

Toni-Maree Jones & Dusan Bojic 24 April 2015

“ We met in 2005 through a mutual friend but didn’t start dating until many years later... at which time we knew from our very first date that we had a very special connection. ”

Toni designed the wedding invitations and the Order of Service using online printers Vista. She used Dusan’s own images - from a collection of one thousand created as a courting gift for Toni - as the artwork on the cards. Many of these images were shown at the reception in a slide show projected above the bridal table at the reception. The ceremony was held on the Terrace of the Ballroom at Victoria Park Golf Course. The bride and groom had personally made the decorations for the ceremony, which included gold and black curtains tied with golden beads; golden candelabra each with five candles; and gold plinths for colourful floral arrangements to decorate the ceremonial space. A team of the couple’s friends and students helped decorate the Terrace and the reception before the wedding. The Celebrant was a long-time friend of Toni and Dusan - Peter Waterman. He conducted a Binding Ceremony where the couple used six hand fastings (made by Toni) instead of rings, to share their vows in a traditional Orthodox ritual from many centuries ago. They also exchanged a personal vow that each had written for the other to be unveiled only at the wedding. There were two readings - Alain Badiou’s piece from ‘In Praise of Love’, read by Toni’s sister Natalie and a poem written by Dusan for Toni, read by a friend, Cameron. There were two special candles called ‘Spiritual Warriors’ (handmade in Bellingen) that were lit during the ceremony... one for absent loved ones and one for Unity. The music played for the signing of the Marriage Register was ‘Oh Love’ by the Norwegian singer Ane Brun whom the couple had met at WOMAD the year before. She had given them her blessing and permission to use her music at their wedding as her songs formed the ‘soundtrack’ to their courtship. They danced down the aisle to a Jazz Duo - Out of Abingdon, Warwick Hargreaves and Tina Fullerton - playing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Dance Me to the End of Love’. Guests in aisle seats threw red rose petals at the couple’s feet as they entered the wedding together. Trees were lit in the nearby park when they were pronounced married.... Mr Dusan Bojic-Jones and Ms Toni Jones-Bojic.

Toni and Dusan celebrated their love with an Elegant Boho / Indian Chic wedding at Victoria Park Function Centre... a true reflection of their creativity and commitment to each other.

The reception was held in the Ballroom at Victoria Park Golf Course. There were 110 guests and a bridal table just for the bride and groom. The meal was a sumptuous buffet, enabling guests to mingle and move freely around the room. The tables were decorated with over 450 pieces of hand-painted glassware decorated by the groom. The linen table settings were black and gold to mirror the ceremony and the napkins were red to add vibrancy. They were supplied by Liz and Gene at Elegant Settings. Toni and Dusan created their own black and gold charger plates for each setting. There were also 110 rosemary and thyme sprigs hand-tied with gold thread and beads made by the bride and her friend Myriam who came all the way from Switzerland for the wedding. Envelopes for donations to the Wishing Well were stamped with a logo designed by Dusan to reflect their status as a couple and the Wishing Well was an antique box from Woolloongabba Antiques Centre which was decorated by the couple.

The registry book was hand-decorated by Toni for guests to sign as they chose one of Dusan’s hand-painted liqueur glasses next to the Wishing Well as a thank you gift from the couple... a team-effort by the couple to reflect their creativity and joy at their wedding. Pandora Karavan Photography and Guy Mansfield, Videographer captured candid and natural moments throughout the celebrations.

Both Toni and Dusan were dressed by Kamalz Indian Fashion at Upper Mt Gravatt, an Indian clothing designer store which sells colourful outfits, accessories and jewellery. Toni decorated her wedding veil over many months with hundreds of crystals, pearls and beads as a way to prepare for the coming ceremony. Toni’s friend and hair stylist, Janine Leslie, was on hand to help her style her hair and put the finishing touches to her wedding day look before they left the Emporium Hotel for the ceremony. Sandee from Always Fabulous Flowers designed the five colourful floral stands in consultation with the bride, using a colour palate to reflect the bride’s dress. Sandee also created a rosemary and rose halo to wear with the veil as well as the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s buttonhole. Gillian Bell Cakes created a 3-tier naked cake of dark couverture chocolate sponge filled with a compote of locally grown raspberries and organic buttercream and decorated with organically grown edible flowers and foliage. All of the decorations and styling were created by the bride and groom, giving them an opportunity to express their creativity and artistic flair. The guests were asked to dress in formal and colourful clothing to help celebrate their nuptials. The groom’s family are of Serbian heritage and the bride’s ancestry is Celtic so elements of both cultures were reflected in the celebrations which were intended to be inclusive and engaging.

The groom’s 1979 Red Valiant Regal was the wedding car which the couple travelled in to the wedding reception. Dusan decorated it for Toni and she sat next to him in the car as he drove her from the Emporium Hotel to Victoria Park Golf Course. Music was central to all aspects of the wedding and reception as the couple have a strong link to the music industry. The DJ played Loreena McKennitt’s song ‘Marco Polo’ as their entrance music while they danced and twirled among the guests at their tables in the reception room. The MC asked all the guests to clap in time to the music as the bride and groom entered, which warmed up the festivities. After the Bridal Waltz to Ane Brun’s ‘Undertow’, guests joined the couple on the dance floor for a traditional Serbian dance called a KOLO - a spiral dance in slow step. It was accompanied to live music performed by a duo of George Valenti on accordion and Bill Anderson on flute. The DJ entertained everyone with dance music for a time until the couple were ready to toss the garter into the crowd and depart through a tunnel made by the guests with hands raised and joined in an arch all the way to the waiting Silver Service Taxi. The departure music was Leonard Cohen’s ‘Dance Me to the End of Love’... a perfect way to start on their magical journey together. The use of rosemary and thyme sprigs was very significant as it formed part of an ancient ritual over 2000 years old whereby these herbs evoke strong memories of love and friendship between the couple and the guests. It also linked everyone to loved ones who were absent and from time gone by. Guests were asked to dip their sprigs in their wine glasses to bring good health and happiness to the couple and to themselves. The happy couple honeymooned at The Mouses House Rainforest Retreat at Springbrook - chosen because it was a peaceful haven not too far from Brisbane for a private and relaxing break after the busy time leading up to the wedding.

Toni’s highlight: “To finally be able to read my personal vow to Dusan and to share it with all my special loved ones. It was truly the most perfect day!” Dusan’s highlight: “To experience the wedding, our vows, our celebrations as we had formed it - and seeing it all come together honestly, inclusively and creatively.” In the week leading up the wedding it was decided that time should be taken to do something special each day. Two special occasions were memorable... a few days before the wedding, Toni and three close family members went to an Indian beautician to be decorated with henna on their hands and feet. The henna design included the groom’s name secretly written on the bride’s body... on the honeymoon the groom is supposed to find his name in the design. The henna formed a beautiful lace pattern that reflected designs the groom had created for the bride. The second occasion was a pre-wedding dinner for Toni with 12 girlfriends the night before at Mogo Japanese Restaurant at Milton. It was a great way for a few of the guests to meet each other for the first time. It was also a chance to swap stories and share as women. Dusan was given a prewedding feast on the eve of the ceremony with a few friends who understood he didn’t want to overdo things beforehand but wouldn’t mind enjoying fine food and a few drinks. His friends also gave him breakfast in bed ahead of the big day so that he would be ready to set up the decorations at the reception before taking his bride-to-be to the ceremony. Toni & Dusan’s newlywed advice: “Be open to new ideas and remain flexible. Remember always why you are doing what you are doing and that it must be all about reflecting your love for one another and keep it relevant to you as a couple. And keep a paper trail because you may need it when the bills start coming in! Try to take moments for yourselves as a couple before the wedding so that you remember all the wonderful reasons you are getting married.

Glengariff Historic Estate ALDA MONTEIRO & OSCAR NINASIVINCHE were married on 25 January 2013 at Our Lady Of Victories Church. “We chose this gorgeous church because of its architecture which reminded us both of churches we love in Peru and Portugal. It tied in with our ‘classic, old world’ theme perfectly and captured our cultural backgrounds. I wore a gown by Mori Lee New York from WHITE LILY COUTURE and hair styling and makeup was by THE POWDER ROOM. Our reception was held at GLENGARIFF HISTORIC ESTATE. This gorgeous family estate perfectly suited our classically romantic wedding theme. The wonderful Channing took such care of us and our guests and made sure our day ran smoothly! We didn’t have to worry about a thing which allowed us to really sit back and enjoy every second with our family and friends. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful - they really went above and beyond to ensure we had a beautiful day. We love this venue and it will forever hold a special place in our hearts!” Photos courtesy Milque Photography & Films.

The ceremony was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George at West End and the reception was at THE GREEK CLUB. “Mrs Caterina Antonini, a very close family friend, made my wedding dress as well as my mother’s and Anna’s dresses. Special thanks to this very special lady who, at 70 years old, created a hand beaded and sewn piece of art - my wedding dress. I love the look of an outdoor wedding with hanging flowers and a fairy-light canopy and worked with Styled Events to recreate the look indoors... ‘rustic with a touch of glitter and sparkle’. The cars were from Kenz Classic (bridal car) and LIMOSO AUSTRALIA. Our wedding favours were little jars of olive oil with a sprig of rosemary from my grandmother’s garden. Our hobby is eating and we also love cooking together and thought it reflected us both as well as being a practical gift for our guests! Our first dance was to ‘All of Me’ by John Legend. We chose PORFYRI PHOTOGRAPHY to capture our wedding day.”

“ Highlights Nicole: “The highlight of the day for me was the unveiling of the dance floor and the dancing. Now, the rain had made my dress a bit of a mess and my satin shoes had gotten a little soggy, so I changed into another dress I had brought. This made our first dance so much easier. Nathaniel and I couldn’t take our eyes off each other. The fog from the dry ice smoke machine made the moment feel magical! The song we picked was quite dramatic and beautiful.”

Our ceremony was held at Maleny Botanic Gardens and the reception was at VUE DE LUMIERES. We had a lot of really great vendors who helped us out along the way. The person we liaised with the most, and who helped us organise the largest number of things was Kerry Cosgrove of Vue de Lumieres. Even though our ceremony was at a different location, Kerry still wanted to check that things were going to go smoothly over there and organised a marquee for us at the ceremony site as a wet weather option. Photos courtesy Helen McConnell Photography.

Nathaniel: “After the ceremony it started to rain so we were trapped under the marquee. However, after the rain had passed, there was a rainbow which made for some beautiful shots and made me feel incredibly lucky!”

If we could talk to the animals, just imagine it Chatting to a chimp in chimpanzee Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting to a cheetah What a neat achievement that would be. If we could talk to the animals, learn their languages Maybe take an animal degree. We’d study elephant and eagle, buffalo and beagle, Alligator, guinea pig, and flea. We would converse in polar bear and python, And we could curse in fluent kangaroo. If people asked us, can you speak in rhinoceros, We’d say, “Of courserous, can’t you?” If we could talk to the animals, learn their languages Think of all the things we could discuss If we could walk with the animals, talk with the animals, Grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals, And they could squeak and squawk and speak and talk to us. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEWHERE TO HOST YOUR QUIRKY, ADVENTUROUS DESTINATION WEDDING... HOW ABOUT GETTING HITCHED AT THE ZOO...

Real Wedding @ Melbourne Zoo Janis & Cameron

The theme of Janis and Cameron’s wedding was classical with a hint of old Hollywood glamour. The invitations matched the theme with bold black text representing a classic look and the animals a representation of their wedding venue, Melbourne Zoo.

Janis and Cameron’s love story begins in Perth. Janis was working for a computer software company and Cameron was a chef. The couple met through mutual friends and six years on now live in Melbourne with their beautiful 2-yearold daughter, Claudia, and a son on the way. Getting married was not the pair’s first priority, with the couple focused on wanting to start a family first. After five years together, they decided to solidify their relationship with a wedding.

The dress was exactly what Janis was after because of its classical and sophisticated look which suited the Hollywood theme of the wedding. The dress was designed by Karen Willis Holmes and Janis wore Olrik shoes.

Janis and Cameron married in a stunning ceremony in the serene Japanese Garden of Melbourne Zoo. Pops of pink from azaleas added colour to the wintry day, and a swan was gracious enough to walk Cameron down the aisle.

The bridesmaids were dressed in Alannah Hill with matching pale pink cardigans. The dresses perfectly complemented the flowers supplied by Sassafras Flowers. The young flower girls were dressed by Dollcake in outfits to reflect the Hollywood theme. Having a family-friendly wedding was important to Janis, and to embrace the fact that children would play a big part of it, nieces, nephews and daughter, Claudia formed part of the wedding party. Guests were invited to bring their children along.

The reception was hosted in the Rainforest Room, very suiting to the theme of the wedding with flowery decorations on the tables and the inside venue having a great view of the outside gardens and trees. Janis initially looked at wineries, but wanted everyone’s children to be welcome and to enjoy the day. The children were free to visit the zoo before the ceremony. During the reception, they were given a designated corner for playing with a teepee, toys, dress ups and colouring in, and started a conga line on the dancefloor. To go with the classic Hollywood theme, decorations of old suitcases and family photographs were placed around the venue. The wedding photos of both Janis and Cameron’s parents on their wedding day were also Janis’ ‘something borrowed’. Janis created D.I.Y. art-deco themed items for the wedding, including paper animal puppets which were placed on guests’ tables. Melbourne Zoo also provided paper lanterns for the ceremony in the Japanese Garden. The cake was designed and created locally by Cakes2Kreate in Pakenham. It was a two-tiered iced and floral cake with matching cupcakes in floral tones of pale pink and lilac. Dessert items included Saffron poached pear, warm chestnut cake and poire william crème and Couverture dark chocolate mousse, whipped mascarpone, banana cake crumbs.

Janis + Cameron Janis put a lot of thought into combining the old world, vintage theme she selected with the animal appeal at the venue. She handmade vintage-style paper animals to decorate the venue and her seating chart. Janis and Cameron celebrated their special day with 60 guests, including 15 children aged from 18 months to 15 years. Janis’s sister was visiting from the U.S., as were friends from Singapore. Visitors were delighted with the unique Melbourne wedding venue.

Melbourne Zoo was a versatile venue for guests who were able to have a wander and discover the beautiful gardens and animal enclosures. Early entry was provided to wedding guests with children so that they could explore the Melbourne Zoo grounds before the ceremony started. Janis collaborated with her bridesmaids when it came to styling her wedding, with Pinterest being her source of inspiration in creating art-deco themed decorations and table settings. While Janis said you can easily get side-tracked by other themes, if you have a good sense of your own style you can work with it to create the perfect themed wedding.

Real Wedding @ Melbourne Zoo

Sophie is a veterinary nurse and has always had a love for animals, and so Melbourne Zoo was an easy choice for the couple’s special day. One of the highlights of the day for the couple was feeding giraffes for their wedding pictures. The 130 guests were also able to explore the Zoo’s enclosures before the wedding ceremony. Sophie had known Matt for nearly four years before she finally agreed to go on a date to the movies with him. Matt would phone Sophie while he was out socialising with her older sister Kate but she never thought anything of it, and after nine years together they are now happily married.

The pair dated for seven years before the groom popped the question. They booked a room at the Crown Promenade as a shared birthday present, and spent the evening playing blackjack and roulette after having dinner at The Merrywell. The next morning, while sitting on the couch discussing buying a new dog, Matt pulled out the ring. Sophie’s initial response was “aren’t we getting a puppy?” and by the end of the day, she had a new boxer puppy called Reggie and a fiancée.

Sophie +Matt Sophie and Matt decided on an ‘animals’ theme to complement their wedding day at Melbourne Zoo. Sophie created her own wedding invitations, which were made of recycled elephant poo with elephant silhouettes printed on the paper. The hiccup of a double booked celebrant turned out for the best as Channel 10 weather man Mike Larkin married the couple in a touching and memorable ceremony. Sophie wore her mother’s earrings for her something old, and her sister’s veil as her something borrowed. Sophie was delighted with how easy it was to find the perfect wedding dress. Her dress was selected from Sabrina Moda in Mornington, and was one of the first shops she visited. The assistants were lovely, and the dress was one of the first she tried on and fit perfectly.

The bridesmaids wore dresses from Review and shoes from The Iconic. Bridesmaid Prue Wilken applied everyone’s make up and big bouquets of springtime peonies from Georgie’s Flowers added a fresh and feminine look. Matt and the groomsmen were dapper in suits from Formal Red in Sandringham.

The ceremony was held on the Platypus Lawn, which was beautiful and green in springtime. Tall trees and manicured lawns made for a very beautiful ceremony and lovely photos. An intimate evening ceremony in the elegant Lakeside Bistro included finger food and dancing, with the couple’s first dance to Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’. The entertainment for the day was Sophie’s uncle and aunt who were a part of a band called the Frantics. Their music went beautifully with the wedding and it was a perfect fit for a family celebration. The cake was four tiers, decorated and made at local cake shop Niko’s Quality Cakes in Oakleigh. The cake matched the floral theme of the wedding as it was decorated beautifully with fresh flowers. Flowers were a prominent theme throughout the wedding with exotic magnolias plastered all over the roof and venue. Supplied by local florist, Georgie’s Flowers, the aroma and look of the flowers added a bit of magic to the venue, going well with the animal theme. Guests appreciated Sophie and Matt’s wedding as something different and quirky, but very special and memorable. Sophie’s advice for other bridesto-be when planning their special day is to “go with what you like, as it’s your day. Everyone will have their opinion, but in the end it’s important to have a style that reflects you and shows off your personality.”

Real Wedding @ Werribee

Open Range Zoo Claire & Jesse Claire was 12 when she first met Jesse through family friends, but it wasn’t until in their late teens that the couple reconnected and started dating in 2010. They had been together for nearly three years before Jesse proposed during a walk along the beach after lunch in Barwon Heads. Claire and Jesse were married in November 2014 after 18 months of wedding planning. After a recommendation from a friend, the couple chose Werribee Open Range Zoo as the venue for their special day. The unique location impressed their guests especially those who came from other countries, who particularly enjoyed taking photos with the giraffes. An early evening ceremony was held at the Gorilla Viewing Platform, with a reception in the elegant Meerkat Bistro.

Claire’s mother walked her down the aisle to a party of 60 guests, with the two holding hands. Olivia assisted her daughter in selecting her elegant dress and decorations for the reception as well as hand making the invitations for the special day.

As stressful as the long preparations might have been, Claire had a lot of fun accessorising. The bride chose an elegant, sophisticated and classic look for herself. The bride wore diamond and pearl jewellery from Duffs Jewellers, and a matching hair piece for her veil. A garter was her something blue.

Claire wanted the day to be bright and colourful, and dressed her bridesmaids accordingly. The ladies looked radiant in watermelon-coloured dresses from Bridal House Geelong, the same designer for Claire’s beautiful lace gown. Vibrant bouquets were supplied by The Flower Dispensary. The groomsmen added bursts of colour to their sleek black suits by Man to Man, with watermelon-coloured ties and pocket squares from Bridal House Geelong.

Claire + Jesse

Claire and Jesse kept their theme simple and elegant, decorating their reception venue with silk chair sashes, crystal chandeliers and candles. After dinner, Jesse and Claire danced with their 60 guests to tunes from DJ Jackson Davis. Catering was organised by Compass Group’s Werribee Zoo Events and guests were treated to a menu chosen specifically by Claire and Jesse. Notable dishes included an entrée of lamb kofta with pomegranate, yoghurt, dill, tomato and cucumber salsa, porterhouse steak with grilled mushrooms, mashed potato and red wine sauce for main, and sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce for dessert. Guests took home personalised jars of rock candy by Designer Candy, and mini cakes by Sweet Designs By Claire especially chosen in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. The scrabble decorations were purchased from Typo in Geelong almost five years ago. When Claire and Jesse started dating, Claire bought the decorations for Jesse’s birthday and they have kept the decorations since, to be used for their wedding day. Unconventionally, the couple spent the morning getting ready together. They spent the night beforehand at the Four Points by Sheraton in Geelong. Claire and her bridesmaids were dolled up by Asha Makeup and Casey Day from Lotus Hair for the occasion. Claire kept her dress a surprise from Jesse until the special day. Claire’s tip for future brides-to-be is to trust in your own dream and vision you have for your special day and not to let other people change what you have imagined. Sara Taylor captured the couple’s special day as they embarked on a traditional safari bus ride to view a wide range of iconic grassland animals and feed the giraffes.

Your Wedding Day - immortalised by photos - is one of the biggest events of your life.. and the beginning of your marriage. Starting with your Wedding Day itself, here are my Top 7 Ways that I use Yoga to help Brides-to-Be. On the Day... 1. Stand tall! On your wedding day, you want great posture. All the practice of the past few weeks is on show today. The crown of your head lifting towards the sky lengthens your neck, lengthens your spine. This Yoga technique is called ‘seeking’... as if the top of your head was seeking to touch the ceiling, drawing the rest of your spine up with it. 2. Stretch your ‘Space’! Before you shower and put on your dress, stretch your arms up high. Swing them around (carefully) like a windmill to work your shoulders. Feet apart, bend your legs and let your arms swing around your body in a twist with momentum. Legs bent, flop your body down into a forward bend and let the blood go to your head. Breathe upside-down. Stand up and do a couple of side bends, lengthening down the side of your body. Unless I have written you a specific Yoga routine to do on the day, these couple of simple moves will ‘expand your space’ and help you feel calmer. With stress, the body wants to shrink. ‘Stretch your personal space’ before nerves hit... even good nerves! 3. Breathe! Any breathing is good, but the breath ‘down low into the belly’ is the breath that calms your nerves. All the practice in the weeks leading up to your wedding pays off today. If you haven’t practiced yet, when you get a private moment - getting prepped, in your limousine, between photos - breathe and expand the part of your belly below the navel. There is a reason that women in beautiful corseted gowns used to fan themselves and faint - they couldn’t take a full diaphragmatic breath! A few breaths in this style on the day will keep you feeling energised, alleviate nerves, and can help ward off tension headaches and exhaustion.

4. Plank It! Especially if your arms and shoulders are on show, Yoga Plank brings tone to this area as well as your core. Yoga Plank and Downward Dog combo will bring bloodflow to your arms. This will make you look more toned - and build on whatever tone you already have been building leading up to this day. If your wrists don’t like to bear weight, make sure you check with me for the forearm versions of these. Half Dog Pose for beginners, handstands for more advanced Brides... they are all variations on a theme. The variations offer the same benefits, but I modify them for your body, age and needs to ensure all the Yoga you will get through me is achievable and stress-free. 5. Do Yoga for your FACE! My Face Yoga helps prepare and relax muscles around the eyes and mouth. This is similar to the ‘Expand your Space’ technique for your whole body - but specifically for your Face. Just like the rest of you, there are facial muscles which tighten under stress and they want to contract and shrink you in. Relaxing and stretching them sends a signal to your brain that there is no real stress. Consequently, your brain releases relaxation hormones instead of stress hormones. It really works. Do these 15 minutes before you put your makeup on, or 30 minutes if your skin is sensitive. Each of the points below starts from a ‘neutral’ face. >>> With a tall spine, open your mouth wide in a ‘silent scream’. >>> Stick your tongue out and down, stretching it as much as possible. >>> Purse your lips and scrunch your face as much as you can. >>> Raise your eyebrows and roll your eyes around - both directions slowly. >>> Breathe. Massage your face with your fingertips, moving the flesh over the bones of your cheeks, your mouth, eyebrows and forehead. >>> Smile wide, wider. Stay in a wide smile and push the corners of your mouth into your cheeks and up towards your ears. Use your hands to hold your big smile for a couple of breaths. 6. Connect! Of course your Wedding will be about some Big Moments of connection. Put more heart into your day, by practicing how to ‘BE’. Use Yoga skills to help you stay centered and connected - Mind and Body. Bring in your practice of grounding, centering, breathing. When you are grounded, and breathing consciously [yoga breath], you will be calmer, more serene, more relaxed - and happier. Staying connected to your heart means that your head can’t steal you away into worrying thoughts. Trust that everything is prepared, and lean back on your helpers. Your job is simply to ‘BE’, not to ‘DO’ on this day. Seek to connect to the feeling of your own breath in your body. In Yoga, we might call this ‘connecting to your Heart’. Then seek to greet every guest from that connected space. Your guests, your family, your catering... everyone who sees you on the day, will feel your presence when you connect in this way. A connected bride is a bride who is brimming with something tangible. She touches everyone... including her groom!

7. Take a Moment! This is it. On this day, as you transition from single to married, take a moment for yourself. Give yourself a symbolic hug - savour the farewell to the former you and welcome the phase to come... symbolised by your Wedding. Speak to yourself out loud and state your intention to marry. Allow the tears to come up, tears of joy, tears of transition. Breathe, take a moment. There is no rush. Yoga teaches us to love the cycles of our life, and our emotions. Imagine your mind’s eye is taking a photo of you in this moment. Keep it as a precious and very personal souvenir of your inner self. In a few days, on your honeymoon, or next time you have a quiet moment of relaxation or meditation, go back to that ‘snapshot’ of yourself. Let your married self share her joys and highlights of the wedding with that bride who paused for a moment... Congratulations!

Two persons who unite their lives to help each other toward divine realisation are founding their marriage on the right basis: unconditional friendship. Woman is motivated primarily by feeling, and man by reason; marriage is meant to balance these qualities.

The Mekong Delta inspires images of lush green vegetation and productivity, and images of traditional Vietnamese floating markets. In the north and inland, there are tribal areas bursting with ethnic diversity and colour. The coast is home to a fascinating collection of sites which include Khmer temples, beautifully preserved old Chinese towns and beautiful beaches. For those after a relaxing beach honeymoon, A&K’s 7-day Highlights Of The Coast Vietnam Escape journey could be just the ticket including resort stays at Nha Trang and Ninh Van Bay plus a Vietnamese cooking experience. Priced from $3,615 per person twin share. http://www.abercrombiekent.com.au/vietnam/itineraries/escapes-highlights-of-the-coast.cfm

Sanctuary Ananda, Myanmar

Myanmar is another country to feature on most bucket lists for 2015. Set to bring new levels of luxury to cruising in this beautiful destination, Sanctuary Ananda launched in Myanmar late last year. Custom-built using traditional Myanmar materials and arranged over four decks, this floating palace combines all the comforts of 5-star contemporary luxury with the refined elegance of authentic Burmese design. The only all-balcony, all-suite ship on the Ayeryarwady River, the ship features just 21 beautifully appointed suites. Throw in an on-board gym and spa, well-stocked library, gallery, lounge, cocktail bar, and plunge pool and there is surely no better way to experience one of South East Asia’s most romantic destinations. Itineraries available are 3, 4 and 7-night itineraries on the Upper Ayeyarwady River, 11 nights on the Upper and Lower Ayeyarwady River and 10 nights on the Chindwin River. http://www.sanctuaryretreats.com/sanctuary-ananda-myanmar-cruise-ship-burma

Gourmet South Australia

For a honeymoon a little closer to home, look no further than South Australia. The world-famous Barossa Valley wine-producing region is a highlight where guests can try their hand at winemaking, sample gourmet fare and bed down at The Louise, an idyllic gourmet retreat. Then there’s an outback experience at Arkaba Station with a hosted homestead dinner. In the Clare Valley enjoy more home-cooked fare before jetting down to Kangaroo Island and stunning Southern Ocean Lodge where ocean, beach and wilderness combine to create the most spectacular wilderness setting. A private dinner for two is organised in the cellar one evening and there’s a master class showcasing the island’s rich produce. A&K’s 8-day private journey, ‘Tastes of South Australia’, is priced from $10,475 per person. http://www.abercrombiekent.com.au/australia/itineraries/tastes-of-south-australia.cfm
